There are a lot of negative comments being made about Writers cafe, but actually, the site is ok. It's only amateur, but there are some reasonable decent offerings to be had and overall I have found most folk to be perfectly friendly. Don't expect War and Peace, or a ode by Tennyson, as the site is pretty much for those who simply enjoy writing as a fulfilling pastime, rather than a day job.

Writer's Cafe is what I call a "self-licking ice cream cone." There's a small clique of mediocre writers who are "top reviewers" and usually the "top writers." They essentially praise each other's work, mostly poetry, and ensure they remain at the top. A few of these people can be nasty, especially if you appear a threat to their standing on the site. I'd recommend any other writing site. I've used Writer's Cafe off and on for three years and it's mostly been a waste of time.

Been posting on this site for five years. It is the best site of many I have used but still has some idiosyncrasies on occasions. Mainly regarding the lack of moderators and you do get the odd troll or two. If you ask for critique, there are some who will provide it and in detail. Others will review your work in a more general way. Give it a go. It's worth a try.

This is a writing community. You can post your work and get reviews. It is a free site that allows you to read as much as you like or post as much as you like. I have been on it over 12 years. Hope to see you there.

Whether you are just starting out on your Writers Journey or a fully-fledged Published Professional, this Site is for you. Particularly good for Poetry, but all Forms and Styles of the Written Word welcomed. If you read the negative Reviews of Writers Cafe on Site Jabber, you will generally find that they are written by people who have been thrown off the Site. Come and give it a try and see for yourself.

The two reviews on WritersCafe.org by Bob D are not reviews at all, but pose "Personal attacks, hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, false and deeply negative/defamatory libel about longtime and highly regarded individual members on the WritersCafe site" … all of which violate Sitejabbers' Review Rules/Terms and Conditions.
He, also, expresses radically defamatory "opinions" about individuals. Which is his right (and liability) to do so, even if they're completely subjective and don't hold an iota of truth. On the other hand, in his August review, he begins with his one positive comment:

Quote: "While Writerscafe is most certainly a moneymaker for admins 'it is still the best platform for online writing.' "

Unquote: Now, I shall address the comments Bob D has made on those he's libeled, slandered, maligned, smeared, and defamed … by name are: RJ Calzonetti, Lightsong, Martin S, John McFadyen, Richard Jenkins, Margie Willis, and David Demers (Bob D's personal attacks, hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, completely false and deeply negative/defamatory libel can be read in his two reviews under the name, "Bob D … Oct. 1st & August 16th, 2021").

Bob D Quote: "As they say (whoever THEY is!), 'The more things change, the more they stay the same…' And so it is with Writerscafe. Take a coffee break in the realm of reality and return to this site and you'll find such awful purveyors of poetic mediocrity still reign supreme! Like your poetry to read like a muddled puddle of thesaurus mined vomit? Try the wasted poetic exertions of RJ Calzonetti; a 'poet' of such Prozac munching inanity that simple lines filled with meaning and depth are completely beyond his capability. Lines upon lines upon lines upon lines (sigh) of utter nonsense entirely focused on the way words sound with absolutely zero intelligence and meaning to be found. The kind of crazed madness that one finds bouncing off the walls of an asylum white room. In fact, it's 'artist' is a card carrying member of the crazy club, also!"

Unquote: I do not know RJ Calzonetti very well; so, I cannot vouch for of Bob D's vitriolic discernments of him. But, I can't help wondering why any rational person would find it necessary to so radically rave about and teardown so many others in the ways this Bob D person has? As he seems to be a harshly miserable being, I feel a sense of sadness for him.

Quote: "Next, please!
Poetry and beauty are quite often symbiotic lovers on the page; to write of beauty in the world around us is inspiring for the soul. Yet, there are those like the venerable, halo wearing 'poet', Lightsong, aka Ghounwah, who prance around the pages of Writerscafe, spreading puke inducing sycophantic reviews and writing airheaded poems about flowers, butterflies, love, flowers, butterflies... and did I mention flowers and butterflies? (Sigh). If you thought the days of sycophantic Roman senators were long gone then how sorely mistaken are you! Make an account, add a handsome picture, say you are from the western world, add a brain numbing poem of stupidity to your page... and watch this ridiculous person, wax lyrical over whatever is written! You'll be a God of the written word before you know it! Just another infuriating person that exists in this narrow minded world of 'poets and writers', whose written career highlights involve dominating this enclosed nut house and gloating about the insignificant literary non-achievement of being SELF PUBLISHED ON AMAZON!"

Unquote: Ghounwah (pen-name, Lightsong), is a person I have known online very well, indeed, for over 8-years, both on WritersCafe.org and another site that folded a number of years back. She's widely recognized as an extremely kind, talented, compassionate, highly conscious, and giving spiritual, romantic, and sensual writer of original Free Verse poetry, who is highly read, reviewed, and shared with poetesses and poets across the globe. Until Bob D's smears, I've never before heard of a single defamatory or unkind sentiment about her or her shared poetical efforts.

Quote: "Starting to get the picture now? Join the site by all means! It's cheaper than a ticket to the circus... and just as crazier! Stay tuned for more tales from the world of the literary unclean!"

Unquote: I, Richard J, first joined WritersCafe.org just over 15-years ago, in 2007, left in 2008, and rejoined 7-years ago, in 2015 … and, for a free site, it has had but a few ongoing technical downsides, along with a rather full array of attributes and user-friendly features that makes it an ideal venue for poets and writers on all levels of accomplishment. Is there room for improvements? Undoubtedly so. There, however, are TROLLS and simply nasty individuals who come and go (as on most any poetry or writing site) that have to be ignored, blocked, and/or kicked-off, who try their best to wreak and spread havoc, exactly as Bob D has in his reviews here on Sitejabber with his personal attacks, hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, completely false and deeply negative/defamatory libel. I've met and befriended many excellent people from around the world, over the years on WritersCafe.org, from beginners to masters, and every level in-between, as-well-as, some of the most prolific and dedicated poets and writers I've had the privilege to share my own poetry/writings and reviews with. Some have been WritersCafe.org members for as long, or longer, than I have.

Below, are additional quoted examples from Bob D's libelous, maligning, and defamatory attacks on six more (8-total) singled-out WritersCafe.org members, along with my responses to each.

Bob D Quote: "While Writerscafe is most certainly a moneymaker for admins it is still the best platform for online writing."

Unquote: It seems this Bob D person got it right that WritersCafe is a good platform for writing.
Then, he continues...

Quote: "What let's it down is people like Martin S (a useless 'writer' who complains about the site and the people there because his writing is so poor and barely legible and he is a plagiarist, to boot!)"

Unquote: I don't know a Martin S; so, I cannot comment on these claims, except to say they're very unkind, unsubstantiated, personal attacks, hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, and deeply negative/defamatory libel.

Quote: "and John McFadyen, (a married man of advanced years who uses the site as his personal Tindr playground, making moves on numbers of females and bombarding the inboxes of young females with sexual innuendo filled filth.)"

Unquote: I've known John for over 7-years, only as a rather accomplished poet and a reasonably good reviewer. I've never heard anyone else say all that (or, any part, thereof) about him. Quote: "Add to them a Richard Jenkins (a self described Professor Emeritus' Unquote: (make that, "poet laureate emeritus") of poetry who befriends young females"

Unquote: This is true … I've taught literally hundreds of Poets, poetesses, and writers, females and males of all ages, many who've gone on to publish their work in their own books, in anthologies, magazines, and articles, etc; all without as much as a hint of impropriety from a single individual. I've been stern at times and a hard task master; so, maybe a few grumbles I willingly own, but no one's ever complained … not to me, anyway or anyone else who's ever said anything to me.

Quote: "under the guise"
Unquote: Guise?

Quote: "of teaching them the craft of poetry writing, yet is really a borderline pedophile seeking out his dirty thrills)"

Unquote: I can only wonder where Bob D came up with this idea, and knowing me, respecting and caring about me as those on WritersCafe.org profess to, it's obvious why it's shocked and upset them that anyone would say such things about me. Personally, I could care less what Bob D says about me, but as a well-known, dedicated, and highly regarded writer and teacher of poetry, I take the greatest offense to such a legally libel, dastardly lie and assault on my character.

Quote: "a Margie Willis (a pathological liar who fakes physical disability and stories of child abuse for sympathy, attention"

Unquote: Again, Bob D is way off base … I know, for a fact, that all of what Margie says about her childhood and debilitating injuries are factual.

Quote: "and desperately needed reviews"

Unquote: Ridiculous! Margie prolifically writes poetry and stories, reviewing others, receiving [probably] more reviews on her splendid array of writings and poetic forms than anyone else at WritersCafé. Org.

Quote: "and who divides the entire cafe with cliques of her own personal fans)"

Unquote: Pure silliness … Bob D is seriously misinformed. Margie is friendly to a fault, and reads and reviews any and everyone; albeit, sometimes, quite bluntly and honestly.

Quote: "and of course your resident cowardly troll and racist, Lorry,"

Unquote: Hell's bells, Lorry is a nice person who writes and reviews with a generous amount of intelligence, encouragement, and appreciation.

Quote: "and the post traumatic stressed former soldier, David Demers( who fancies himself an intellectual philosopher, yet blatantly steals his ideas off youtube, of all places, and exists on a permanent hemp cloud of rage and little man syndrome."

Unquote: Well, for once the author of his plethora of vehement diatribe got it right: David Demers is/was a TROLL's TROLL … the only person I ever blocked, simply because I got tired of his incessant barrage of bullying me and everything I wrote as garbage.

Quote: "and THAT is why the site suffers.:"

Unquote: From my discernments of Bob D's rather twisted (and, from my knowledge) inaccurate opinions about those he's mentioned (most assuredly about me, and my WritersCafe.org friends), I conclude he has his own axe to grind. Why? Who can tell by the nature of his words, but could it be jealousy and, perhaps, an overly imaginative sense of morality and under accomplishment? Or, he might have even been (or felt) rejected, disrespected, or unrecognized by those mentioned; although, I cannot see me or the others doing any of that to anyone … not on purpose, anyway.

Quote: Spoiled, not by the efforts of some talented writers or its format, but by the undesirables that exist there. Any talented writer or lovers of the written word.

Unquote: Why Bob D singled out the individuals he has, in the ways he has (namely: very unkind, unsubstantiated, personal attacks, hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, and deeply negative/defamatory libel), is a mystery to me … albeit, an unfortunate one, cowardly at best, undeserved, and libelous at worse? Who can know the mind of a TROLL mentality … not that he positively is, but that he's done an exemplary job of imitating one.
I would not have openly addressed all of this, but after writing about it to the Sitejabber administration (with no response whatsoever) to address or delete Bob D's personal attacks, hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, completely false and deeply negative/defamatory libel … all of which violate Sitejabbers' Review Guidlines/Terms and Conditions.
I felt (short of legal suit for libel) I was left no other recourse but to address and set straight Bob D's erroneous defamatory comments about WriterCafe.org and some of its highly regarded, most liked, favored, and respected longtime members.

In this effort, I sincerely hope I've succeeded.

PS: I've not yet notified the violated WritersCafe.org members Bob D singled-out in his libelous reviews to personally attack, vent his hate speech, bigotry, lewdness, completely false, and deeply negative/defamatory diatribes … but, now I fully intend to.

NOTE: Anyone who can identify Bob D, I will certainly appreciate you letting me know who he is.

Tip for Potential New WritersCafe.org Members: As a longtime member, I vouch that you can use WritersCafe.org with full confidence that it is a wonderfully popular writing site on the world wide web, serving writers on all skill levels equally as fulfilling … all one has to do is put forth the effort to join-in and do their part in making it the place they'll love being. For the most part, the WritersCafe.org membership is made-up of fine individuals …and, like in everyday life, there are always the others who only understand and deserve BLOCK!

What a wonderful site, I have written many stories and poems. I get very excellent feedback and they encourage me to get my stuff published. It is a great site for those who love to write stories, poems, and share their ideas. Not only that a good way to find a list of local publishers to try and get books published. You should really join this site. It is a lot safer then deviantArt, they take harassment, bullying, and stuff very seriously.

I love this website. It gives you pretty good feedback, and you meet writers from all over the world. And they encourage you to get your work published and display a list of local areas of any publishers near you.

writerscafe.org is a perfect and encouraging venue for growth as a writer. It affords clients copyright of their writing as "published" and has every manifestation of writing genre available to writers who are keen to learn and progress in their art... There are many sage and professional resident writers who freely offer advice and reviews of work is invariably constructive. I would recommend writerscafe.org to any prospective writer or readers who enjoy a wide range of quality, written work.
