STAY AWAY
September 19, 2017

I know other people have posted about this, but the United MileagePlus deal is a total scam! I just got off the phone with a unapologetic customer service agent, who pointed me to a small link at the bottom of the initial offer page (nowhere on the original United email) that has questionable language about having to be an active member for 21 days after the shipment to receive the miles. Here's the rub, if you remain an active member for 21 days after your first or second shipment, you'll just get another one (i. E. your second or third) and pay for it. SO, you really must pay for three boxes to get the entire amount of award miles. And, after the first shipment, the boxes almost triple in price, so I was really stomaching a high cost of the second box just to get additional miles in the deal. The terms and conditions (after the fishy 21 days of active membership line, that could apply to being an active MileagePlus member) do state: "Member will receive 2,500 bonus award miles with their first wine club shipment, 4,000 bonus award miles with their second wine club shipment," which turned out to be a blatant lie.

To add to the punch, both shipments of wine we received were extremely questionable in quality. The first box had two bottles that were palatable, but the second box was filled with almost undrinkable, low quality wine.

I was a member of Winc for almost a year and decided to try Vinesse to get the 6500 miles (but now looks like I won't be getting thanks to a total misrepresentation in the fine print), and regret the fact that I did. Stay away! You're in much better hands in the capable hands of ANY other wine club. I'm back with Winc and extremely happy with their wine quality and customer service.

Hello,

We would like to apologize for any misunderstanding regarding the promotion you enrolled into with us. It is not our intentions to cause any of our members any sort of inconvenience. The terms and conditions through United’s page is a blanket statement that covers the various vendors they do business with and doesn’t contain many specificities. This is due to the various types of goods and services they offer through the use of the air miles their members have acquired. Also, you are actually able to control your shipment dates at any time. We offer delays on your shipments for up to 6 months at a time. Many members, when they first enrolled, prefer to hold off on the 2nd shipment to decide if it is something that they want to move forward with. We encourage taking as much time as you need to be able to try the wines at your leisure and get a taste of the wines offered in your shipment. We would like to apologize for any wines you have received that weren't praiseworthy to your preference of wines. Our goal as a wine provider is to ensure that our members are able to thoroughly and completely enjoy any wines that we send out, whether that be accompanying a dinner meal or enjoying a glass or two at a social gathering. We do put a great deal of care and consideration into the selection process when choosing wines, but we realize wine is a completely subjective experience, and we want each and every one of our members to be absolutely content with every bottle. For that reason, we offer a satisfaction guarantee and love when our members make use of it to ensure they're enjoying their selections.

9/*******: I Grabbed introductory offer from Acorns.com for $40+ called the American Cellars Wine club. While on the site (on a Saturday) I clicked the World of Wines club link to investigate and was IMMEDIATELY charged for joining the new club. I expected to be able to review and confirm before being charged. The total charge to my card was $164, I assumed it was for 12 bottles of wine (6 intro wines + 6 new club wines).

9/14/2020: I could not reach customer service (chat/email ONLY) until after the weekend and by then they said it was too late to cancel. No worries, they stopped any more auto shipping and gave me the option to refuse the shipments in order to get refund. I opted to take the 12 bottles of wine for $164.

9/17/2020: A shipment of 6 bottles arrived. The World of Wine club shipment included only 3 brands (2 of each), not much variety for a club, but the wine was pretty good. I expected the intro shipment later.

10/07/2020: I contacted customer service again to see what happened to my introductory shipment. I was informed, "After reviewing our notes I see that your ACWC membership was cancelled on 09/14/2020 via chat. Therefore your Introductory offer that was scheduled to process on 10/5/20 did not go through because you canceled before this date"...
Furthermore, "... only charged for the TWOW shipment the fee for 6 bottles in the TWOW club is $154.49 plus taxes and surcharges.". I was expecting to start an intro to the club for $40+ for 6 bottles and ended up paying over $27 PER bottle (incl. Tax/shipping).

BEWARE the site and the club.
There's no way to see itemized receipts,
There's no confirmation of purchases before being charged,
The CLUB shipments have a small variety (I ONLY got 3 brands).

This is scam company
February 12, 2016

I signed up for the wine club because of the AA shopping bonus and promo. Like other reviewers, not only did the prices go up, but the quality of the wines went down. You have to call to cancel your membership. You will be told that next month's shipment has already been charged and that will be your last shipment. If you say that you do not want the next shipment you will be told it's already charged but you can be emailed a refund request form. Once you fill this out you will get a response in a few days that your request has been denied since the next order has already been processed and if you send the wine back you will be charged a shipping fee of $16+

If you call customer service back you will be told it's basically out of there hands and that there is no manager avalible. I'm still waiting for that manager to get back to me. This has scam written all over it. It's very sad that American Airlines would promote such a company!

I'm having the charge and all future charges disputed from my AMEX. I'll also be refusing the shipment and I'm sure I'll get charged a shipping and restocking fee like many others have reported. I'll be disputing that too. I've contacted AA via email (it's all they have for that department.) You can call American Airlines and they will send you an email with contact information for the merchant department. I reccomend all mistreated by this company to do the same and have aAmerican Airlines remove them from their site. I'm shocked and saddened that their company has gotten away with this scam for so long.

Time we all get it stopped so others don't fall victim to the scam. Wish I had know all this before I orderd from them! Do not place an order with this company.

I would advise against buying from this company, especially the AAdvantage deal for the wine of the month.

I ordered it for my mom's birthday for $41.95 for the first month and included 2,000 AAdvantage miles however I was charged full price for the first month. I contacted them through the online chat and Riley was able to help me get the price corrected and also told me about the 2nd shipment receiving 3,000 additional miles. I figured I would get the 2nd shipment as a Mother's Day gift, and then close the account since I am currently working overseas and unable to drink the wine myself.

I closed the account a couple weeks ago and contacted them again about missing AAdvantage miles. Kimmie first told me that I was not signed up for this deal even though their own representative is the one who told me about it. Then she told me it was because I closed my account within 21 days of the shipment and their policy says it must be open for 21 days after the shipment. I looked back at their Terms & Conditions and there is no mention of this. Then I was told to contact the company they do the promotions thru to get my miles. They refuse to acknowledge that they made a mistake. My first shipment only received 1,700 miles (not the 2,000 it was supposed to) and 0 for my second one. They refuse to give me my miles and told me I could ship the wine back but I would have to pay for shipping. I have all the chat transcripts from this and they still will do nothing.

Edit: I spoke with their customer service supervisor and they were able to get all of my missing miles posted. It was a frustrating few days trying to work with the customer service reps, however once I got ahold of the supervisor everything went much smoother.

My introductory case was sent out on 8/31. First of all it took about two weeks (maybe longer) to receive the wine, it came and I was giving as a gift as I do not drink. What an embarrassment to hear from my in laws that they were barely palatable. But I figured, you get what you pay for and the introductory price was cheap. I researched the wine only to find that they are nonexistent anywhere other than vinesse, which is sketchy. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a pending charge of $144.06 on my credit card. I checked the online account, which said my next shipment was scheduled for 10/16/17 and I would receive an email notification from Vinesse 7 days prior to shipping. I was counting on that email to be my reminder to cancel as I was not going to continue as a member for that price considering the poor quality of the wine. I called to cancel the membership and within a few days the pending charge disappeared. On 9/25 I now have a finalized charge for $144.06 on my credit account. I check the online Vinesse account to see that I am still active. The wine has not yet shipped so I am hopeful. I canceled online at that point and called again to be told that this is the first time they have record of me calling and that while the wine has not shipped to me it has left the warehouse and cannot be canceled. They offered me either 40% off (which is still $100) or to refuse shipment and be refunded minus the shipping and 15% restocking fee, which would cost about $50. I said restocking fee for what, I am not even opening the box? So nothing could cost me $50 or I keep 6 bottles of crappy wine for $100. All because of false information... I was led to believe my next shipment was not until 10/16, then I was led to believe I would receive a reminder 7 days prior which would be my cue to cancel, I was under the impression I canceled via telephone. I appreciate the offers to return or keep at a discounted rate, but to be honest I don't have an extra $50 to pay for nothing or an extra $100 for wine that I cannot drink and am too embarrassed to give out as gifts. At this rate I have reached out to my credit card company, the Better Business Bureau and the New York Attorney General office in order to see what my rights are against these unethical practices. At this point as a consumer, I advise you to stay away. If it sounds to good to be true... it is!

Hello,

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the wines you received hit short of the mark. Our goal as a wine provider is to ensure that our members are able to thoroughly enjoy any wines that we send out, whether that be accompanying a dinner meal or enjoying a glass or two at a social gathering. We do put a great deal of care and consideration into the selection process when choosing wines, but we realize wine is a completely subjective experience, and we want each and every one of our members to be absolutely content with every bottle. For that reason, we offer a satisfaction guarantee and love when our members make use of it to ensure they're enjoying their selections! Our members' satisfaction with the quality and value of our wine selections is our highest priority. All our wines pass a rigorous and competitive review by our highly experienced tasting panel. We source wines in many different ways, including directly from wineries in the US and abroad, through distributors and through trusted wholesalers and importers. Sometimes, we act as a "negociant" and work directly with foreign and domestic wineries to produce custom wines for our customers but that cannot be labeled with existing brand names. These negociant wines must be labeled with unique new and distinct names to protect existing brands and sources. Sometimes, our best values for our customers are found through negociant arrangements as existing high quality wines are sold for far less than their full price to us and the savings are passed to our members. In regards to the cancellation that you have made, we would be happy to look into this for you. All of our phone calls are recorded and we can double check on this issue as we would like to get this resolved for you. Would you please message us your member number (or phone number on file) so that we can access your membership and follow up on this?

I'm not complaining about the monthly delivery system. I understand what it is and am using other wine club services. Their problem is that they don't disclose full policies when you sign up and blame you that you gave them consent not knowing it.

The initial promotion box impressed me. The packaging was neat and the wines were good for the price I paid. So I kept the membership while rescheduling the next delivery date to avoid unnecessary monthly deliveries. Four months after I signed up, they charged my credit card for an unknown annual fee of $30.

When I reached out to them to request a refund, the agent kept saying that the annual fee is a part of their policies and I agreed with their policies and terms at the signing up. What they didn't know about me is that I DO read terms and policies every time I sign up for any subscription services, and I RE-READ the Vinesse policies and terms on their website before I contacted their customer service. My "consent" at the signing up that the agent sent me was the same as I remember. There was nothing in policies and terms mentioning the annual fee at all.

When I pointed out the lack of notification about the annual fee, the agent said they mailed it recently and it would arrive this week. I told him that I only agreed with the terms that were disclosed at the time of signing up, and I've never authorized anything other than that. The agent kept saying they did disclose by mail but the mail was on the way. It's actually an admission that they didn't disclose the information when I signed up. I had to point out repeatedly that the terms never reached me. How could I agree when I wasn't informed at all?

Eventually, the agent offered me reimbursement in a form of a credit, but I felt too unpleasant to keep it. Then the agent said they would give me a refund and cancel my membership (I didn't even mention canceling my membership, but thanks for saving my effort A LOT!) and he just ended the chat unilaterally. What an unpleasant conversation.

The issue here is not just about charging an annual fee. I'm willing to pay for good service and currently using various membership services for a fee. But it is obvious that they concealed the terms regarding the annual fee from me when I signed up. According to the conversation with their agent, the mail was the only disclosure given to me, and it was sent 4 months after signing up. Mailing the terms 4 months after signing up, and charge my credit card before it arrives? They call it consent. I don't think so.
