Over the weekend we did some traveling and found a few places which we needed to write a review about. One in particular was the Comfort Inn North east, Maryland. Having been at tripadvisor for several months and acquiring a positive status. I created these reviews only to have then remain in "pending approval" I then get an email saying that these reviews have been decline on the grounds that they violate their terms of services. Mind you 1 reviews was positive, while the other two were leaning towards the negative side. I've since contacted tripadvisor and informed them that their site is biased and prejudice to any and all reviews and those who create the reviews. In essence I had to locate a review site just so I could post a negative review about another site. I think posting any reviews is a bit pointless. Who actually believe these reviews anyway. Oxymoron in my opinion. Never the less the issue still remains, TripAdvisor and many other sites hire people like you and I to write only good reviews just to make a company look good and did you know that those companies you review actually read what was said, and if they don't like what you've said they can have you banned and or have the review removed and what about the legalities of writing a review. While on Yelp, I was threatened more than 3 times because of a review thus I was forced to edit or remove any reviews which didn't appeal to those companies I gave negative reviews towards. So do you believe this is a bad or good review of a site that doesn't allow members to right to create and speak their minds about products or services?. In other words. How does one get the word out that something is wrong when one can't contact the company with a complaint?..

Tripadvisor helped us plan fabulous vacations. We had the most wonderful hotels and B&Bs in Italy, thanks to Tripadvisor. But now I wonder if it's been co-opted by businesses or they have a new site planner? Presently trying to plan a trip to see family in the UK and then head to the Lake District and various spots in Scotland. The whole time the reviews for various hotels are being obscured by ads and notes that 'this hotel is not available for your dates' even though every time I clear dates, they seem to be back again when I check the next place. I just want to check the hotels... if I like them I will see if they are available and enter the dates then. In planning multiple stops there are different dates and locating the good hotels is paramount -- I can plan a trip around favorite spots depending on their availability. I don't want the information blocked - which is what's happening now.

Also they are not showing maps as they once did and the traveller's photos, which used to be priceless to find out the real condition - now even when you click on it, you have to go to management or 3 separate windows of options when you've already clicked Traveller Photos! Then you have to go through albums... click, click, click, click! I'm now getting carpal tunnel in my fingers! I clicked it once... traveller photos! I liked going through all the photos. So frustrating.

I think I have only given glowing reviews on tripadvisor because, thanks to them, I've had wonderful experiences. So I'm sad to share my frustration about their site and what has happened to it. Have tried to contact them to ask if they would consider returning the site to how it was previously organized. Or if there have been other complaints. It's easy to read the reviews and tell if the review is written by someone with a genuine complaint, or if the review says more about the reviewer than the hotel! It used to be a priceless tool - but it's Pricefinder feature, along with the ads and photos, have lost them this devotee!

I looked at several sites to list my property as a vacation rental. I chose trip advisor because the information I read stated the fees were 3%. When going thru the step by step process of listing it I again read about the 3% fee. Once the listing was live and I received my first inquiry I realized the amount showing to potential renters was way higher. My price was 2500 a week but the customers would see a number of 2830 which was way higher than the 3% and rather than take it from my 2500 they just increased the price of the rental making me look higher than my competition. All emails were responded to anywhere from 8 to 16 hours later and would only answer 1 question and neglect to answer the other questions. The one main question that was continuously ignored was "is there a phone number where I can actually speak to a human". My final email to them stated I would cancel the listing if they did not answer my question. One full day later they responded but by that time I had it with them. Just a big scam. No customer service and fees are tacked on over and above what you are renting for. In the end the response to the fee question was that they charge 5-15% booking fees and then didn't explain how they arrived at a figure of 15% on my listing.

So the scam is this: when you are listing your property and get to the fee section they refer to the 3% fee never mentioning the 5-15% until after you have listed and found out the hard way. By this point you have no proof that the only fee disclosure that appeared was the 3%
Disclosed while listing. Then they are obviously operating out of another country and don't respond for almost a full day each time because of the different time zones. The emails aren't properly responded to and some emails sound as if the person on the other end is completely uneducated and knows very little English. So dang frustrating but I've moved my listing to another site and will never use trip advisor for anything because of this. Big scam!

I look at this site all the time and thought it had a good reputation. I have been booking lodging for 50+ years and never had an issue on any internet site. I booked two separate reservations for consecutive nights in late May at the same lodging place ( decided to book a second night after I had already booked one) a week ago and got a confirmation for both saying "your room is confirmed" along with a voucher for each night. A week later, I got a call and an email from someone who could barely write or speak English telling me that "the hotel had confirmed both reservations and then just now cancelled both due to giving the rooms to someone else and there is no more availability now." I called the lodging directly and they stated they never had a reservation for either of those days with my name on & I would have to deal with whomever I booked it through. So, I called trip advisor directly as per their email and because that is who I booked the reservations through. I was told by them " we use third party people and just let them use our site." I did not book through another party, who turned out to be a "foreign entity," I booked through trip advisor and expect them to assure what is being done on their site. No other sites I have ever used (and I have used many) have ever not stood behind what I purchased through their site. After speaking with others today and talking about this, they have told me they or someone they knew also had similar issues and not to book lodging on this site. Wish someone would have told me! Hope this prevents others from experiencing this mess. Also, They would charge me a $28.00 "processing fee" for each reservation if I cancelled (most sites don't charge a cancelation fee also!). They need to pay me that plus more for all the inconvenience, extra time, issues with the trip I already planned around these reservations and the increased cost and unavailability of rooms at this point due to closeness to the holiday!
