I used thumbtack to find a landscaper. Dunn 2 perfection was good the first year. However at some point, their bookkeeping and communication turned very bad. I sent many emails that informed them they were wrong about me being behind on payment. They would agree and apologize. This happened at least 3 separate times. It got to the point I had to take snapshots of cleared checks and send it to them. Just this June, they abruptly stopped coming to cut our grass. My husband called and he was told they mistakenly thought we were behind. The woman called us back to say they would be out there that day or the next day. It took 3 days for them to show up and we received no call or email explaining why. The day after they cut the grass, I got another invoice saying I had a past due amount. What?! This was just addressed a few days ago on the phone. I promptly emailed and asked which month was in question because I was ready for a response. I had already pulled out all my checkbooks and went online again to take screenshots. I got no response. I sent that email over July 1st (7 days ago). I will send payment for one month of service and be done. Maybe I'll get a reply when they see the check is less than the invoice. That's all I ever wanted--a reply. Poor communication and questionable billing.
After several years of being a contractor listed on thumbtack. This is my opinion!
Their pricing schedule is all screwed up! They charge 4 credits or roughly 10.00 for a sub premium lead. By that i mean you pay 10.00 for a lead that does not include any contact info for the potential customer... No email, no phone number. Just a name and a genral area. Also the cost of the lead is not in anyway equal to the amount you could hope to make on the job. For example they charge 4 credits(approx 10.00) for a lead ( installing a tv on wall with no inwall wire concealment) that at best is going to pay 55 to 79.00 but then the charge 2 credits for a lead (complete electrical rewire) that has the potential to pay thousands of dollars.
I will also add that i get replies to only about 1 in ten leads purchased.
At one time thumbtack was a usefull tool in your tool box. That no longer is true. There price increase is designed to get the most out of the most popular services. Instead of being designed to get the most out of the most costly services.
If i could give advice to those in charge at thumbtack... It would be... to take some time a actually make some phone calls to your contractors and ask ( personaly) what they think about " cost of lead vs price quoted". I think they would be surprized.
To sum it up... Thumbtack is trying to get premium lead prices for refferal leads (leads where you pay. And they pass on your info). It is for that reason than i have greatly reduced the number of leads i bid on.
If i could give advice to contractors thinking about using thumbtack. It would be. Don't waste your money.
George was very professional and upfront. They came on time & were courteous. I was told I would still have Bee's for 3-7 days it actually took 8 but they are gone! I highly recommend this company. They are the ones I'll call in the future for any exterminator issues if needed. Thank you George!
I am a studio photographer who has used Thumbtack for some time now to bid on photography jobs. Thumbtack lies about screening their job postings, as numerous ones never receive job status updates, quite possibly indicating the postings are bogus.
Thumbtack charges service providers for bids on the job request listed on their website. There is no better way to explain Thumbtack's ethically-challenged operations as the refuse to refund bid credits for job cancelled, deleted by Thumbtack or completed outside of their service.
Thumbtack's customer service is extremely bad and I can not stress any more then to never use their service. Thumbtack is in existence simply to gather revenue even by not providing the service the advertise.
Service providers should avoid them at all cost.
Drive way resurfacing. I recently had several drive ways resurfaced in a retirement community by Estes Paving co. Chris One of the owners was very professional. The hard-working and professional crew were thorough, timely and diligent in cleaning up the site daily. I Would definitely recommend this company to anyone needing asphalt paving. I was completely satisfied with the results. We will be calling Estes Paving for additional work In our community. Pat. BCVE.
I hired 2 cleaning services from thumbtack and both were awful! Swept away cleaning and always clean both had great reviews, and both were terrible! I think my 4 year old could have cleaned my house better!
Gerik Whitt power washed my driveway, walkway, decks, etc this morning and I am very pleased at the job he was able to do. For example: at my request, he was able to clean the decking without stripping any of the finish off like the last guy did. In all, job well done and a pleasure to work with.

We had our carpet cleaned here at Auto City Speedway! All Around Carpet Cleaning took on the challenge of cleaning our carpets. (We are a race track!) Paul was very prompt on his arrival time given for an estimate. His prices were very reasonable... We didn't have to wait long for an appointment to clean. He was very accomodating to our needs. AND... the carpet is now cleaned and looks FANTASTIC! We won't need to do any more "Comparison" shopping... All Around Carpet Cleaning will be our FIRST CHOICE from now on!
An entire wall was damaged and needed to be repaired. Maurice did an amazing job in making the wall look brand new. The ending resulting put a smile on my face. I would use him for all my home repairs.
R and L Lawn Services did an excellent job on my flower beds. They were on time and completed the job in the same day. The service cuts my yard every two weeks, and I have been pleased with their work.
Jay and his crew did a excellent job on our house and deck thankyou
Romario is the best contractor I have ever worked with. Not only does he do the job perfectly, he goes beyond the job specifications and makes sure what he does looks spectacular with everything around it.
It was a great surprise to look at what he did and I am very happy with it. Complete house painting, stone wall building, fence rebuilding and painting, and land care is that he did.
I have worked with Josh and his crew for several months and they keep my lawn cut and the curb edged which adds a crisp look to cut.
He is also taking care of ivy problem that is killing my trees.
Luna's Tree Service is the way to go! You will not be disappointed. He has fair rates, is timely, and cleans up and hauls your branches away. My wife was impressed when she saw one of his guys even racking after cleanup. He was even here early... no waiting. I would hire him again.

Dave and Jason are real nice guys and do GREAT work! Had them put some drains in our patio area and pressure wash everything!
If anyone needs work done in the Northern Brevard area. I highly recommend him!
Mr. Thomassy was a complete professional in our house. We were doing some painting and I noticed an irregularity in the wall. I was concerned we may have had damage due to a leak, since tropical storm Colin had just come through a couple nights before and the house had leaked in this particular area a few years back. Mr. Thomassy was able to put our minds at ease by not only telling us we didn't have a leak, but showing us images on his thermal camera and comparing them to dry sections of our house and more moist areas so that we could see for ourselves. I would highly recommend AMVETPRO and their thermal imaging techniques. I would be shocked to learn of a harder working or friendly business that can you leave with complete peace of mind.
I was impressed! I had David, Jeff and Ed move my furniture and household goods on to a moving truck to go to Florida. They were great to work with, and did a wonderful job! They were careful with my furniture, and did an absolutely fantastic job loading the moving truck. There was not an inch of space between the boxes and furniture, tied everything securely multiple times as they went along, and I had NO damage to my house in the process. I would without question recommend this crew from Real Deal Van Lines. Nancy Lecours
I used Thumbtack for my business for about a year and a half. I have really liked using them UNTIL they doubled there pricing to quote my potential clients. They are way to expensive and I probably won't ever use them again. I get enough business from Facebook and word of mouth!
I am very happy with service. Call Jacome and ask if can come to my house to help with my woods floor. He repair my floor and refinish. My floor feel and looks like new thank Jacome...

I hired terrible movers through thumbtack. I tried to leave bad reviews on the company but they are not listed any longer in Thumbtack. Thumbtack is unlisted them for some reasons. I guess they faked the reviews since it is easy to fake it? Thumbtack customer service is also terrible. Don't hire movers through Thumbtack.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
