Thumbtack is pretty much a scam and the only people benefiting from their service is Thumbtack. The only businesses that gets to send a quote are those who are quick and ready to part with their money. As a result, clients are not getting quality leads.
Thumbtack charges whatever they want for leads even if you turn them down they charge you! They also make their website extremely hard to navigate, so when you dispute a charge they do not refund. They have terrible customer service. They charge you for bogus client leads. DO NOT USE THEM and give them access to your credit card. They also send you leads that are not in your area or area of expertise and fight you on the charges.
I hired terrible movers through thumbtack. I tried to leave bad reviews on the company but they are not listed any longer in Thumbtack. Thumbtack is unlisted them for some reasons. I guess they faked the reviews since it is easy to fake it? Thumbtack customer service is also terrible. Don't hire movers through Thumbtack.
We hired John Shelves from Summit Studios to photograph our warehouse and office. John and his assistant were very courteous, friendly and was able to capture the photos shots we were looking for. The photos were sharp, clear and exactly what we were looking for. I would highly recommend John Shelves from Summit Studios.
I was happy with Thumbtack service for a couple years. And then last year they started to changes things around and from there it went from good to horrible.
They charged me for leads up to $55 even though the client would just answer "not interested". Or would charge me for a lead that they generated through a matching system, matching me with a request that wasn't even interesting for me.
They also decided to no longer ask client for their budget range. So now it makes it even harder to know if my services will be a good fit for the client.
Anyway, they just ruined a good business model. Too bad.
Tylor, from Wild Hawk Landscaping did a fantastic job putting down new sod after we killed our original lawn by over watering. Tylor, was always on time and completed the job in just a couple of days. After the sod was down Tylor would call or come by to check to see how the grass was doing. We know have a beautiful front and back yard. I would highly recommend Tylor and his Landscaping company WildHawk Landscaping to any one who needs any landscaping job done.
3X I have fallen for the trap. They send me a lead that has the potential to pay for the entire investment and i re-up and buy more credits and the same thing happens... NOTHING.
It a scam similar to those " exact leads" that others company offers with no results.
Abbey catering was a GREAT choice. My daughters graduation party was fantastic. The food was really hot and fresh. My guest could not stop raving over it. I will use them over and over again. Thank you Abbey catering.
I am very upset. I filed a complaint about TT's possible violations of consumer protection laws and price act. The deactivated my account and recently charged me for leads. These leads were actively being worked and again PAID FOR.
No one is helping the pros. Attorneys won't take the case, the AGs office does absolutely NOTHING to research these various violations and takes TT's response a true. All they do is ask for a response and refuses to address the real issue of not notifying clients of the price change and new setup until it is too late. No will help fight for our rights. You just get screwed all the way around.
I was looking for a laptop screen repair and a number of vendors came up, listed as "Serves [name of my town in Pennsylvania]. I selected a callback option for the top-rated one, and after no response for a couple hours, I googled the vendor company name and found it was in Arizona. Called their number and the owner answered -- he said the only way to service the laptop would be if I shipped it to him. So Thumbtack returns results for vendors located anywhere, and there's no way to drill down to local vendors. Ridiculous! You're coming after Angie's List, are you Thumbtack? Good luck with that, you dilettantes.
If you are a service company and they have convince you to advertise with them prepare to chase fake leads and /or drop your price by 50% if you want to get any jobs. If you are a consumer be ready to get bids from people that are not qualify to do their job and some of them with criminal records. Thanks but not thanks.
Build a company with them for over 2 years. Had 70 + 5 star reviews. Never did a job for a costumer he gave me a 1 star complained about me and my account get deactivate and banned forever. Zero warnings, zero calls. And they believed a guy over a business that's been giving them 3-4,000 a month. Don't waste your time to build a company and then get blocked!
I had an amazing experience with the Elliot's Boys Painting. They provided the best estimate for the job I wanted them to do. When I hired them to do the job they came on time and did exactly what they said they were going to do plus more in a very timely manner. The guys and girls always greeted me with a smile and they where pleasant. They did additional work that other painters where not willing to do without an additional cost. They are true professionals in my book and I am very pleased with their work and so are my neighbors.
I wish I would have read the reviews before I spent all this money on fake leads. I've got 4 kids to feed and struggling to get this (cleaning business) off the ground. Some nights the kids had to eat Ramen Noodles because by the time I get to the store Thumbtack had taken the money off my card for a lead that never replied back or called.
Horrible customer service the representative refused to let me speak to a manager. A representative promised a refund two weeks ago I never got it and they said I would have to wait for this representative to come in. Why would I have to wait for a representative to come in, I would understand if I had to wait for the manager but what? I've spent so much money and regret ever doing business with this company.
Tried it for the sake of trying to see if it works but it is a completely rip off website
They send leads to you to bid on for the job, charge you 5.67 to send a quote to customers and then say in the website no pro have not contacted this customers as yet, then you send your quote for 5.67 to the customers only to be told that you are not
Hire from customer and that they saw your quote, so their dont have to refund you back money, also they send lead to 5 other pro in that area to compete with your quote only to charge dog cheap prices from you sorry for the customers they are getting rip off with thumbtack
I was in search of someone to repair my desk top computer. I used Thumbtack to assist me in locating that someone. Thumbtack referred me to Jun Kim, who did an excellent job. He repaired my computer in a reasonable amount of time at a very reasonable price. Alma
Number 1 to use the Lead Service. It takes about 10 days to 2 weeks just to get online to except Leeds. You have to get past customers to give you reviews and get up to 10 reviews on there before they start giving you leads then the leads that you get some of them don't respond because it's mostly by text or through the app, nothing is on the phone. It's very hard to get a hold of the customer I had the service and I was getting familiar with it and then they cut me off and blamed the reason why it was cut off for another company service. I guess they didn't pay them and they've decided to shut mine down and told me and Tall. This other company has fixed would need to be fixed I would be closed anyone looking for this type of service I would not recommend thumbtack terrible service. You can't get nobody on the phone everything is done by text message. You can't talk to a person it's all done by a computer
We have been members for years. We told them we need phone numbers for the leads to work, we have to be able to follow up on leads. Thumbtack said they are working on it, but never do.
We have kept a list of the leads we are not interested in, or deleted, only for them to show up again under "requests".
The leads go nowhere--quotes are submitted and then viewed and then nothing. Then all of a sudden when you try to quote you must spend money because all the bogus requests used your credits and then you need to pay for more. Shame shame shame on them.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
