Bad - they charge professionals for jobs they don't get
I recently posted a job, got a booking, but had to cancel. They charged the professional $46 for the $255 job that was cancelled. This is predatory.
I have requested refunds for all leads that have been labeled as "direct" to my account. All leads were paid. Results of every lead were "no response", ghosted or not interested.
No refunds have been issued to our business account as of this date. Thumbtack makes it very difficult to get reimbursed for Un-vetted leads.
Rooter Town can out after I saw a $95 special advertised. Long story short, I was told I need to replace the sewer drain and install a "Liner" to prevent the tree roots from invading the sewer pipe a cost of over $15,000. They can in and just started digging and tw up my sprinkler system. Levi stated he would refund $600 to repair the system and the refund was made only after numerous calls and emails. I was told that the inital cost of $340 would be applied to the total cost of the job and they have yet to honor that. My total bill was not adjusted for the initial $340 I paid. So if you want to save yourself a HUGE headache run as fast as you can from Rooter Town!
That's disappointing to hear Christine, we definitely want to help. If you haven't already, please report your concerns to us here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. Our Trust and Safety Team will reach out to you directly and work with both parties toward a resolution.
What a joke! So far, I have only come across very non professionals advertising their services in the area of a traveling notary. I would never recommend this on line service to anyone! One notary decided to have a confertassion with me on line! Really?! They can keep this mess!
I requested a move out cleaning for a Two bedroom and one bath house. The staff arrived on time. I informed them what I wanted clean and they went immediately to work. They continue cleaning until the job was done. They came well equiped. I highly recommend Mary Professional Housekeeping
Theresa, we're overjoyed to hear that Mary Professional Housekeeping could earn your amazing recommendation! Thanks for taking the time to share your about move-out cleaning experience with us here. Let us know if we can find you a helping hand for any projects that come up in the future!
Paula Rosch is a conscientious and thorough planne and installer. She turned my front yard from a wasteland where dust collected in summer and water pooled in winter to a lovely European style courtyard. I have more work to do in my backyard next spring and summer; you can bet I am contracting Garden Planning Services to do the job.
I am a contractor that was using Thumbtack on multiple occasions with good reviews. I was a victim of sexual harassment on a lead of theirs and when posting my review and contacting thumbtack about this, they immediately cut me from their panel. Instead of protecting the contractor, they decided they didn't like my review so they cut me instead.
Thumbtack is just as bad as Home Advisor and Angie's List as a pro (Home Advisor and Angie's List both owned by the same company, btw). You will be so sorry if you join them. They charge way too much for leads and everyone who gets the same lead pays, even if you don't get the job. That is the main reason I stay far far away from all of these services! If they only charged you for leads that led to an actual paying job, it would work out for both parties.
How ridiculous is it for a company to give the same lead to as many pros as possible and charge all of them, knowing only one of them will get the job and the rest are throwing their money out of the window!
Please be careful who you hire. Even though we trust companies, like Thumbtack, to find someone for us there is no support if something goes wrong. I hired a fence company, Allstate Fence and Rail to install a chain link fence and they took my down payment and that is the last I have heard from them. I went to smalls claims court and even though it is registered in the court house it is still up to me to get my money back. If anyone knows the home address of Chris Graver, CEO of Allstate Fence and Rail Co. In Astatula, Fl. Please let me know. *******@gmail.com Thanks

Thumbtack supposedly gets you set up with leads that you pay for out of a stock of cash that you send them on a weekly basis. They're supposed to be valuable qualified leads. What they DON'T tell you is that they send those same leads to like 5 or 6 other people and that most of the time the leads don't respond and when they don't respond or are duplicates or fake then they don't refund you. Truly a very awful waste of time. I would highly recommend against it.
They will send you "leads" that don't go anywhere and not refund your money. Even if a customer read your message and does not respond they will not refund you as they say they will. They are sending your information to four other contractors. They will charge for new system installations which is a $75 lead when people are simply looking for a maintenance. They are terrible and we will no longer be using their service
Hi Jeren, we're sorry to hear you had this experience as a pro. You can learn more about our full Refund Policy and the leads that are eligible for refunds here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy. If you have other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter).
We hired a carpenter from Thumbtack & it was a disaster. The work was bad. When I asked them to come back to fix the molding, they went on offense. The 2 man crew looked more like gangbangers than carpenter. There is NO WAY Thumbtack vetted them.
Hi Jeff, this is very concerning to us. Please report your concerns with more details and your contact information here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. Our Trust and Safety Team will review your case and contact you directly within 2-3 business days so that we can help you move forward with a resolution.
Zero stars! If you are looking to advertise your business stay away from this company! This company lacks integrity, honesty, loyalty, compassion, customer support, respect, diversity, inclusion & partnership. I was a DJ service pro for 10 years with Thumbtack until my account recently got deactivated. They charge outrageous prices for leads using a product called Targeting. All you get is a name. That's it! DJ leads cost anywhere from $20 up to $50.The lead has no idea that the service pro gets charged when they contact a service pro using any one of the automated questions they have. Thumbtack doesn't want you to complain about their product. Thumbtack doesn't take service pro suggestions seriously at all! 10 years of making suggestions & not one of them were ever considered seriously. Holding hands & singing Kumbaya is what they want! STEER CLEAR OF THUMBTACK! That also goes for any customers considering looking for services on Thumbtack!
The electrician was spot on with the work I needed done to get power back to my garage and shop area. This past storm we had messed up the power going from my house out to my shop and I had no power to everything in the garage. I did not know what the problem was but the electrician can out the next day after contacting him and within a couple of hours found and fixed my problem. He fixed the issue and was very professional in his skills. Thank you Thumbtack pros.
I made quite a bit off leads in 2017, but Thumbtack changed their way of business. A lead in 2017 cost $8.33. The last lead I got was $75 and it was for a $50 design consultation. They also just downgraded my account from Top Pro status because I have a 4.75 rating on a 5.0 scale. It was 4.83 last cycle, and I have no new reviews. I have no new reviews because I no longer pay more for a lead than I make doing my job.
This company makes up things as they go along. They claim I chose to pay for any lead they gave me. Charges of $ 9 hundred dollars plus for leads I didn't even ask for because I'm not that type of professional. Then told me because I went through the bank first they can't do anything. Don't do business unless your ready to lose your money. Customer service wasn't any help. And they refuse to give me their corporate office, which is in the states, and customer service is in the Phillipines. Total disappointment.ill never do business with them again and won't ever refer them.
The worst you can go and do jobs for people they don't pay you then leave you a bad review and they still will not do anything about it. It is a waste of money and credits cost way way way way way too much when in the long run people will end up just calling you for free by searching for other people and you pop up later on any ways.
I've been with Thumbtack for 5 yrs now. They have really connected me with customers in the past. As time has past, the company has gone downhill. It's rigged! Go see for yourself!
It's all money driven now. Support team unavail most of the time. Leads are 2x the cost. You have to automatically pay for leads that you would usually see right off the bat as tire kickers. It's disappointing. This is a really great way for city people to view your profile and make a decision based upon what's presented to them.
If you are going to use Thumbtack to find business be prepared to pay for nothing. You no longer have any control over what you spend and there is no way to verify the leads or responses. Thumbtack is now a rip off for business people.
Used Thumbtack for a couple of months. Paid good money for legitimate leads, but not one call. I am using the same or similar quote description as with other lead services so know that is not the problem. The only conclusion I can reach is that the leads are bogus. Now they want money for more leads. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
