As soon as I posted a job needed, a few contractors called right away. One showed up in the next few days. A month later I'm still waiting on a quote from that one. Another just never bothered to show up for appointment
I've been a Thumbtack Pro for years. Every change they have ever made ends up costing Pros more money and is less friendly for Pros. Every time I've told them so. I've never gotten any response and they continue to make changes in the opposite direction of Pro's suggestions. If you use them do so with EXTREME CAUTION. Only choose the customers you are sure are likely to be real customers and the most likely to hire you. You will be charged it is not cheap and almost a shot in dark if you will get hired. If you have plenty of money to spend need a tax expense use them. I doubt Thumbtack reads any of these reviews or they would make more positive Pro changes back to the Pro friendly format they used to be. They are a greedy Billion Dollar privately held company.
I was in dire need of a thorough house cleaning. I found Amanda on Thumbtack. She arrived on time and brought her own cleaning supplies. She spent more than 5 hours cleaning my entire house. Vaccuming, dusting, mopping floors, wiping down the walls and my house smells great. I would highly recommend her to anyone in the Red Lion or York area of Pennsylvania. I am 100 % satisfied! Chris Wade Felton, PA.
I've gone through seven different handyman alleged pros and please notice I use the word pros extremely loosely. Every single one has not completed the job or done it right and every single one has been flakes and never show up when they say they're going to and don't even call to let you know just the worst worst place to find pros and again I use that word loosely on the site
I signed up and typed in the wrong email... ok, my fault. I didn't get any offers or folks contacting me so I forgot about it. Until I checked my bank account. Those bastards took nearly 500 out of my account claiming people were contacting me.
I called. Told them the email was bad and well their attitude was you are SOL. So, I've contacted BBB; consumer protection and I may get an attorney.
I asked for a partial refund because it was partially my fault... NOPE
I was flat out scammed. The rep called me, very professional, gave me great data when I asked. Told me they had thousands of leads available every month and they would send me multiple per day. Said I had to start by giving them a 300 dollar deposit they could use to cover the leads cost. As soon as I started I noticed that no leads were coming in after I set up my profile completely. I tried contacting them multiple times to see why I wasn't receiving leads, when I spoke to customer service they said they had a total of 17 leads for 17 pros in the area completely different from what I was told and promised, I still have not received one lead and they still are holding my $300 hostage and not refunding me. Currently wasting time and effort trying to get my money back. I've reached out multiple times multiple emails and they will not respond back. Do not do business with this company!
We are catching up on jobs that needed to be done to our home before we list our house for sale. We asked Ron and his business associate Juan to wash outside windows, power wash our front porch, sidewalk and driveway, and clean a crystal chandelier in our foyer. All of the jobs were done well.
So I signed up thinking this could be a great way to generate leads and I got 3 leads really quick. My sales rep called them and they were not legit leads. No one called back and one did say they were no longer looking through the system. So now, Thumbtack had $500 of my money. I had no way to get it back. I have now gotten another lead and 30 days later, this one had a weird name and we did not contact, they took money out of the $500 bank they had of mine for bad leads. I have since gotten an email from them saying not refundable. So good scam I guess, they got over $500 of my money and I didn't even talk to one potential lead.
Horrible for pro, they still money from you like crazy.
They charge for every customer who contact you, but those customers are shopping around so thumbtack get aprox 30 to 50 dollars from each pro they client is contacting.
Can you believe this?
Waist of money... last 3 weeks i spend more than 350.00 dollars and i got only 1 client.
When I first started using thumbtack I would hear back from a customer for about every 5 leads I applied for. They have since went on to change from tokens to actual pricing and the quotes are sometimes $40. The customer doesn't get charged to write a quote so thumbtack is coming up with a random dollar amount just to take all the profit. If 5 designers are bidding on that same quote thats $200 that Thumbtacks profiting. After bidding you never hear back from the customer and its a dead lead. I've wasted thousand of dollars on this site, its a complete scam. Not to mention the customer service is horrible! Now they go on to ask for your personal information and want your social security number and date of birth. Why would I give my personal info to a scam site. Definitely stay clear from thumbtack, complete rip off!
Just $75 for one quote on the customer who I cannot even reach. Apparently, Thumbtack only shows half of your quote to the customer and then the customer has to magically figure out to click on the text of your quote to expend to read your full message. And hey btw if you approx price is not in the first 2 sentences of the quote there is 99.9% chance your customer will have no idea how much you charge and well when you tell him you'll never be able to reach him again... And btw "amazing" customer support totally admitted it was their fault and did absolutely nothing! Never again...
After long time working with THUMBTACK I can say this... this Website 3 years ago was very different and worked to help the pros and customers as well... now I feel like they are faking customers to get out or money, the prices for me was $3.33/$6.66 and now the minimum is $8.88. The customers could got 5 quotes, now looks like unlimited... I spend easier $50 being the best(lower) price, I have more reviews and 5 stars that everybody and I dont get a HI from the customers., is that strange? YES, fake customers maybe? YES... they are thinking about themselves and dont care if you are getting hired or not, the only thing that they want is your $... Now this WEBSITE doesnt work to you anymore!
I send a quote for $11, many of them, I look and I have the best price... nobody contact me!
We hired Isaac stockdale to lay some wood flooring and put title in our guest bathroom. We had a very horrible experience! First of all our flooring is not complete and our title he put over the tub, is sunk in. In many places. He would show up for work between 11-12pm, take a lunch, and then leave at 4-4:30. Had an excuse when he came. His work is very unprofessional. We had to pay someone else to fix the mess he did. Very disappointed with his work. Please stay away from this guy, he don't know what he's doing.
I am a professional business owner that used thumbtack. Not only are the leads expensive, but you are unlikely to get the jobs that people message you for. On top of that, the customer service from the thumbtack team is horrible and gives them a bad reputation. I will not be using thumbtack ever again because of it.
So here's how it goes. I bought credits to give Thumbtack a try for creating resumes for people. It cost $30.00 to bid on 10 jobs and get one (Each bid cost 1 or 2 credits). So at my rate, that means I walked away with $55,00, Not bad, so I bought more credits and started looking for more requests to bid on. Low an behold, the price to bid doubled to 4 credits... overnight. That means instead of making $55, I make $25 and Thumbtack makes $60. Bottom line, Thumbtack is a great deal... for the people at Thumbtack.
Things were good at one time and I spoke highly of Thumbtack. All of a sudden the request slowed down as though they had a personal beef against me. I called and complained and they gave me lame excuses of why the leads were not coming in like normal. One staff member told me to decrease the mileage of the service area and I did that and it did not help. I called back again and complained and another person told me that the service area was to small. I replied, "Your staff member told me to." I put the mileage back where it was and now they give me more far away quotes rather than close. I feel as though a competitor called them and told them that I hate them or something. The response I hated the most was when a guy told me that they only send quotes out to pros that are ready to respond. No one responded more faster than I did. They swear nothing happened but it did. What group of people in their right mind would treat paying customers in that fashion. This is a disgrace!
I was looking for a local personal trainer because I was tired of belonging to health clubs and after a few weeks of joining, rarely going. I came across Pam Harrelson on thumbtack. I read her bio and was impressed but the clinching factor was that she was a Christian. I saw this as a confirmation to try her and she was perfect for me. Pam has a lot of personal experience as a trainer and someone who worked for years with a doctor who specialized in nutrition. For the first time in my life I did not dread working out and quite enjoyed our time together. Lisa B
I used them with a previous company I worked for and now my own company. I'm getting charged to much for people just wanting to ask questions and not hiring any pros. The cost used to be lower and not much of a problem but now sometimes paying almost 50.00 for a bad lead is a bit to much. Most of the customers contacting me want pay for a basic service. Wish it was like it was when I first used them.
I haven't used the thumbtack for more than 3 months. Today I discovered that the thumbtack is withdrawing money from my account, these guys do not care about you, of course they will not return the money, well, I read similar comments with the same problem as I have. The service is incomparable, withdrawing money from all specialists is sacred at the thumbtack, despite the fact that there is only one client
We used A Plus Reliable Roofing to replace our roof/gutters and repair our chimney. Our roof was in bad shape, and we received a fair estimate. We found Nick to be both personable and honest. We were so pleased with their work that we also had them side the front of our home and install a new front door. We couldn't be more pleased with how everything came out. We had a decorative wagon that broke, and Nick surprised us by fixing it... very thoughtful. We highly recommend this company and will use them again for future projects.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
