I was charged $15 for a single "quote" they used to cost $3.44. When I asked why they said it's the cost of a client response! It's ridiculous I WOULD HAVE NEVER! Sent a quote out if I knew it costs that much for one. I am better off using facebook ads. They refused to refund me. I have been with thumbtack for 3 years, I am no longer using them.
They take your money and give you leads that don't stick around or respond. I have been with them for years and recently it has gotten worse. Now they submitted my information to a background check service without my permission. I have severed ties with thumbtack because of the above. Checkr still is send a background check request without me being able to end it. With no way to contact this company. I blame Thumbtack for this intrusion. Stay away from them.
It's worthless and you don't know that until after you try to use it. You cannot contact them in Any way so you know they don't give a $#*!. Then they email you "did you hire a pro?" And you literally cannot answer NO, it's not even an option. Ridiculous sight I'm deleting
First you have to pay and then find out that the info is fake. Don't waste your time with this site.
As a professional we have a moving company and all leads are fake leads from people In order to place a quote you need to by credits.
Not one lead worked out and I am pretty sure the leads Thumbtack was sending were fake.
Don't waste your money.
Thumbtack is the worst.
When we first started with thumbtack, we paid around $8 a lead. We had an amazing profile with 65 positive reviews. After three years they charge $65 a lead and half are fake and when it comes to supporting US the people who pay you they treat you like nothing. We had one problem with a customer that we couldn't come to an agreement on. Thumbtack thinks they control everything trying to demand how it's handled but I'm sorry it doesn't work that way. When we tried to make it right not one person from thumbtack support would contact us back or try for that matter. They deleted our profile and everything we worked so hard for. Beware to all you small business trying to come up. They only care about the money not helping the business grow or be successful. Your competing for every lead with about 8 other companies and it end up being who can be the cheapest. That's not how a customer should be treated. They deserve quality.
Terrible customer service from a handyman group called Xigman, listed on their website. They left me waiting for 3 hours and never showed up. When I called back, they said they didn't do the type of work that I needed. And I had specifically emailed Xigman earlier that week to make sure they had all the tools necessary for my specific task (hanging closet doors).
I have been on Thumbtack for about one year now. My business gets regular quote requests, but I received an email that they will be removing all categories relevant to my business. I will no longer be using this service.
I've used Thumbtack.com with great success.
Yes, there are "customers" who use it and don't know what they're doing and you lose money in sending them a bid, and many of these "customers" are also expecting "something for nothing", but overall I'd have to say that in the end I've made more than enough to cover my bidding costs.
You should note, however, what the specific bids will cost you as some jobs are not aligned properly - i. E. it costs me more to bid on a job to paint a room than it does for lawncare, and yet I actually make more money on a lawncare job. I just don't bid on painting jobs; and if you're in a position where you're looking at something that Thumbtack.com doesn't have aligned right you'll just lose out (i. E. guitar lessons, etc.)
I have been a vendor with Thumbtack since its inception. At first, my company got a lot of jobs through Thumbtack. I am now beginning to see multiple requests by the same person at the same location but different dates. For example, I put in a quote for a date and that same person requested a quote for the next day. Yes, I am printing all of these emails out for a possible Class Action Lawsuit. In addition, where clients would at least view my profile and/or website, now, none of that happens and nobody responds to my inquiries.
I rolled the dice and lost. This app is a rip off. I am a photographer thinking this might help but it's all people looking for the lowest price. The leads are garbage. Then after $6-$12 leads i get charged $62 for a lead the people disappeared.
I hired No Spot Cleaning. They did a terrible job. After complaining the company said they would schedule a "redo" no charge. They were three days late, did another terrible job, and charged me again. One cleaner with her 10 year old son!
Thumbtack is a joke. I'd say Thumbtack and No Spot are both equal with a great big ZERO.
After getting multiple answers with different people. The last gentlemen I spoke too, could not help me either. It looks like you have to get many good reviews for customers to pick you for job.
Can't understand why i got a great review from a customer, and shows on my email and on thumbtack Computer and thumbtack can't or won't put it on my review page. Only can give me excuses why they can't, It's irritating getting a great review so I can great more jobs and there's one guy in thumbtack that can get me so irritated that waste my time to give a bad review to thumbtack
Let's see if they call me to see if this can be fixed
P.S. Just being nice does cut. Some people, like me want answers. Didn't care when I told him I might use thumbtack anymore. He just said HAVE A GREAT DAY.
Elise has been cleaning our home for several months now and I would like to commend her on doing a terrific job. I've had several recent surgeries and cannot say enough good things about her and all the hard work she has done. She has truly been a godsend for me. Thank you Elise!
I'm interior designer for 25 years. So I tried it. And I've sent 5 quotes with description: My services are free for you. Please call me or just reply! Free 3D modelling, free planning. Everything free!
So what you think...
No one reply. No one need any services. I've just spent 100$. I think government should punish the thumbtack founder. Someone call cops.
They used to be awesome and generate a decent amount of business for a fair price. Over the last 2 years they have increased their pricing dramatically... Now its not worth it. They want $40-$70 just for a landscape lead. You are not guaranteed the job, that is just for the lead. Its absolutely ridiculous. If your really good you can get 40% of the jobs you bid, so if I bid 10 jobs I might get 4. So I have to put out $700 for 4 jobs if Im lucky. Not worth the expense.
As a self-employed individual I have used Thumbtack faithfully for more than 16 months to try to grow my businesses (2) with mixed results. Yes, they have provided me with new leads that I have used to gain new customers. And, Yes, I have paid them for this: approx. $235 in calendar 2015 to submit my bids.
I find their new "bidding system" which they claim to be more accurate to be just the opposite! I'm a handyman and dog walker/pet sitter. The credits they have assigned to bid on some plumbing and electrical jobs are totally out of whack with the relative size/profitability of the jobs. I have continually complained directly to them about this and only receive "boilerplate" scripted responses that never really address my complaints.
So, if you're trying to obtain new leads and grow your business, I suggest you look at other marketing techniques. I have found Thumbtack to be helpful, but in the end, unresponsive to my criticisms of their policies.
Thumbtack went into our account and took money out because they had one customer complaint. So they took it upon themselves to charge the credit card I had on file for purchasing credits ONLY. They made 5 small transactions totaling 1250. This is illegal because they assumed they complaint was legitimate without proper and legal investigation.
I've gotten 4 clients north of $500 each (some well north) and have another interview next week. One of these clients has returned for more work, two of these other businesses will have more work in the future. I've spent $60-$100 in credits. I am very happy with the service. Kim Northrop, Sarasota, Florida
Brian was an great contractor. He was fair in pricing, and very pleasant to work with. He did the majority of my roofing and dining room remodel. It made the project go about 2 weeks over projection, but it was worth the wait
Don't waste your time. They have raised the price of leads to the point the only way to make money is get every lead that comes across. Miss 4 leads, which is easy to do with all the pros on thumbtack, and you will loose money.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
