Thumbtack has been charging my debit card for quotes I'm not sending stealing my money. There quality of customer are horrible they deal with low quality. I'm a licensed contractor and the pricing Thumbtack customer expect are horrific thumb tack was OK until the unauthorized charges its bad enough they don't screen there customer the steal ya money to stay away tradesmen run go to home advisor if you wanna get $#*!ed
I had used Thumbtack for a couple years. It worked fantastic and it helped build my business. Then out of nowhere they raised their rates 4 fold. They started charging up to $85 just for a lead even if the client doesn't respond. I'm a small business and can't afford $85 for nothing! Now I get leads in Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Chula Vista and I live in Temecula! I have stopped using them completely.
I hired All American lawn maintenance for some yard work that I needed done right away on a rental property. The owner came to look at it for an estimate and ended up doing the job right then for a great price. Also, after that I hired two of his guys to do a paint job on the same house and they started right away, again for a great price. I would hire them again with no questions asked. They show on time and do a super job.
It used to be kind of good. Now it is in clear decline.
For a long time I've been asking them fo add the category "Latin" to music entertainment, to be able to receive more specific leads, but they haven't. It's been months whithout being hired through them.
On top of that, the way they charge you is not well designed and doesn't work properly. Many times you end up paying for leads that don't turn into hiring.
I don't recommend them.
Have been a thumbtack user for a couple years. Used to have reasonable pricing at around $10 and decent leads. Now $60 if you reply to the computer generated "can you provide estimate". Even if You reply yes I can and they don't respond back. This has happened 3 times in last 3 weeks. I have a good referral rate and a website. I get plenty of work without wasting time and resources on this now bogus ripoff site. Plenty of class action suits being filed. Stay away people
I have had the opportunity to train with Troy Woody in the Rockford area. I am completely impressed with the professionalism he abides by and portrays to his clients.(myself). I started training as a 48 yr old woman with type 2 diabetes and a very uncomfortable 253 lbs. Troy's knowledge of physical and nutritional science has taught me how to change my physical apperance along with my internal health within a realistic time period of one year. Troy's understanding and compassion for his trade and clients have been the inspiration for my success today. I have recently been taken off all diabetic medication and now weigh 200 lbs and dropping. This transformation would not have been possible without the dedication not only of myself but the patience & education I have received from Troy. This experience has ultimately changed how I live my life today. HEALTHY.
I was contacted by Ronnie Knox from Denton through Thumbtack. I live in Lewisville and he drove down to see what I needed done and then submitted a very reasonable quote by mail a couple of hours later. We agreed on the estimate and he gave me a start date and completion date. He started on time and finished early.
I had a 'bucket list' of things that needed to be done including replacing a fence, some landscaping, assembling some furniture, and some minor repairs both inside and outside. He treated each thing as if it was his own and went way above and beyond anything I expected. I will definitely be calling him again as needed and highly recommend him.
I very much needed my gutters cleaned, especially on my aluminum patio cover. To my benefit Thumbtack came up in my search on line. Three people contacted me within an hour. The first to call was from George Barrett. He came the same morning, did a fantastic job, left nothing for me to pick up or throw away. He even had answers and suggestions for me to fix another problem I had. Don't believe I've ever had a better experience with calling and getting a repair professional, which he certainly was. We hired a contractor from thumbtack and everything started off great. Then the work slowed down and suddenly our contractor just did not show up. No contact with him as we called several times. Learned he had been picked up on outstanding warrant and jumping bail. His name was Ryan Utias.
Hired our second contractor from Home Depot. Much happier. We learned Ryan had scratched our new tub and installed the new tub fixtures wrong. All the texture work on the walls needed to be redone.
Do not go near thumbtack as there is no way they do background checks on their contractors and no vetting of ability.
If I could rate then negatively I would give them a -10
I was scammed by a content marketer out of 1100 dollars. The red flag = requesting I pay 10,000 dollars for a 1 day only special offer. I requested a refund with their 100% money back guarantee and the "pro" refused. Thumbtacks Trust and Safety person took all my documentation and told me it was my responsibility to research and I should have vetted their pros. They took only the scammers documents and did nothing! BEWARE! Thumbtack is also a scam in my opinion. Lesson learned!
If you are Thumbtack you are in quite a little niche scam spot for the time being. As an individual trying to provide a service... DONT DO IT. "leads" for nearly $8 a pop and not necessarily a way to follow up? B. S.
Got an appointment. Was contacted before my appointment to give a review, so obviously I could not give a review. Sent message from Thumbtack that they were redirecting me to someone else. Woman I had my appointment with knew nothing about the switch. Never had my appointment and I am still getting daily requests for a review of my experience which I never had. No one seems to know what's going on at this company. As they say the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
Don't waste your time or money! This is a terrible service which has even worse customer service, they HUNG UP ON me because I was asking for a refund and refused to let me speak with a manager.
I had people just asking for contact information or my website which is already listed and I was charged $15 for each person who just did not look at my profile to find it. This adds up quick and not truly a "lead". We are on the losing end of their business model.
And Thumbtack customer service does not care! There live chat was equally as terrible.
And who's to say that thumbtack does not have a team of people just responding to your quotes to create money for them! SMOKE AND MIRRORS for sure!
January and February are always a little slow so I thought I would give this a try but oh my! Don't bother! And I don't even give them a single star.
Excellent service, professional crews! A first class operation. The owner showed up to provide pricing on a Sunday afternoon and more than satisfied our expectations! 200 home development! Phil is well respected, responds quickly and more importantly... he does what he says... when he says he will have it done.
This company will soon be at the top of the trade list in RI for this type service.

The website looks good, the idea isn't bad, but the execution? Whoever came up with it should be executed. Those of us who are in business get to spend money to send out quotes. $1.67 per credit - I thought that meant $1.67 per quote - fair enough, even $3 might be okay, but NO I've seen listings asking for 8, 10, 12 and even 14 credits just to send a number to a client (that's $23.38). Really?
Why would anyone spend $23 to send a blind quote to someone whom they don't know anything about? Thumbtack is a joke. 168 one-star reviews isn't a good thing, considering that employees and the owner and their family usually post a lot of the good reviews.
I tried to unsubscribe and it went to a page that said "welcome back" Seriously! Couldn't make this stuff up. I emailed them to no reply of course.
STAY AWAY, STAY FAR AWAY
IF I was reviewing my overall experience, I would rate them 5... but not now. Just today I found out contractors have to pay to send a quote even when they don't get the job. I have placed 18 requests in 3 years and hired 5 people. Not one of the other 13 jobs did I hire someone else to do... I just didn't do them for a variety of reasons. When you fill out a request, you can indicate "I am conducting initial research". IF I had known contractors had to pay just to quote, I might not have placed my request on the majority of them. This information needs to be disclosed to consumers on the website... otherwise it is NOT fair to the contractors. I am going to look for another resource.
These 2 men are awesome. Their professionalism and the quality work reflect on how Kreuter Enterprise moving company run their business. Their responsiveness is like no other out there. If you want a moving company that care about you and your furniture this is the company you should hire. I will be hiring them again on my next move in 3 weeks. Thanks again. Kevin F Deltona Fl
I have been almost 2 years 11 reviews. They have insight compares you with other pros, but when look at it some them not the ones you losing quotes too. Dont use their proassist i do believe it scam. You can message people you may get one out 10 to message back. 99.9 people don't event read your profile.
Mr. Talley and crew installed a French Drain in a apartment basement. They were very professional and explained everything. Quality work, cleaned up each day before they would leave. I highly recommend them for any job. I will definitely hire them again.

Thumbtack takes away control over your business. It divvies out crappy leads and overcharges for them. It won't provide refunds for money you haven't even spent yet in your account. It's difficult to get a hold of support when you need them. Too Greedy!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
