My advice to new members is to try another platform. Even though I didn't contact any customer, they took nearly $350 off my credit card. Every time I objected, they didn't respond. A message is sent to my phone. As soon as I open the message, the money is cut off. This is a complete fraud. Finally, credit I had to cancel my card. I can't even block incoming messages like viruses
Andrew Davis, handyman.
Great all around handyman. He can do electrical, plumbing, general repairs and replace and fix broken appliances. He is courteous, a gentleman, calls ahead and is on time. He is friendly and will do what it takes to complete the job. He is honest and fair in his pricing. I highly recommend him and have given his contact info to friends, family and coworkers
I hired a carpenter, Jesus Jimenez, and when the job was almost done he demanded the last payment. I paid, now I can't get him to honor his contract. Also, he's NOT a carpenter! He did a poor job! He won't return to fix it. Help! Don't use this site! You'll get poor quality & you'll have to hire someone off of Angie's List to complete it.
I think this web site has a good idea of how to do business, but they are focused on their behalf and the end user which most of the times are curiosities they have about prices from businesses and individuals who provide services, the problem is when businesses pay tumbtack, tumbtack informs the client and open communication between the two, if the client decides for one company, others end up paying without results and I think it's not fair, I think thumbtack should charge a higher fee only to those who wins the contract and charge little or no charge who gains nothing but notifications to push them to buy credits.
I'm recently a pro on this website... after reading all other reviews, this is exactly what I was going thru until I realized NOT to keep giving them hard earned money. They control most of the leads. I'll pass on about 5 leads just to see what's going on and they'll put 5 requests right back into my account. Don't get me wrong, some of these are legit. Although most of them are controlled to generate more money for thumbtack. I paid on Monday my weekly balance, only to get charge a day later for so called customers who are not real and "responding". Really on the verge of getting my business off the ground and every dollar counts. So when you try to explain that most of these guys dosent even have intention on hiring ANYONE... So it's not just me I'm complaining about, they only respond so that the pro can get charged. I'm learning now that this can be a total rip off...
The photos are a few examples. Notice the amount I charge for my job and how much they autocharged me. I do not get to pick my jobs. They may not be suitable for me and I'd NEVER approve of doing a job for 10% of my cost. I am the one with the insurance, liability, overhead and they offer only a platform with no sales support and no customer service over the phone. So what are they charging for? Total scam. I've reported these charges as fraudulent on my credit card.
Luckily I only got charged four times by Thumbtack. Only one out of four customers paid the quoted amount, and it wasn't through Thumbtack, because Thumbtack doesn't have an option for Pros in computer repair to collect the quoted amount. Seriously? Yes, it's no joke. So they will only charges for the potential new customer, but won't get you paid. Isn't that wonderful?
I'm too small to react. Hope someone has the money and power to sue this company. How can you charge the pros, but not develop a way for the pro's collect the payment when the project is finished. I find it unbelievable and helpless/hopeless.
I signed up for Thumbtack to get some suggestions for professionals to make a wedding cake. Everyone who contacted me seemed like they worked from home (which could be fine, but I wanted a list of bakeries--not risking my wedding cake on a quasibusiness.) Also, none of the people who contacted me gave me any idea on pricing. The bakery I hired did--they had set prices for their baseline cakes. The most irritating thing is, Thumbtack keeps emailing me to see if I hired anyone. I did, but their survey lets you only choose from the people they showed me. There's no "I picked a contractor outside of Thumbtack" option. Won't bother with this again.
Last month having putting patches on our tile roof for years, I finally decided to replace it. I found Guardian Exteriors on thumbtack.com. They were professional from the start. After the free estimate, Mr. Cole and his crew removed my old roof and replaced it with a new 30 yr. Roof. Professional and fair are 2 words that come to mind when describing this company. I would recommend Guardian Exteriors to anyone. L. M. Mesquite, Tx
I love the app and the ability to get jobs. But if you need ANY support you might as well not bother. They NEVER answer the phone they NEVER pick up on chat and I don't think they even have email. And as for a refund good luck. I have been billed for "direct leads" that are so far from my job types and for crazy amounts. Sent refund requests and not even the common courtesy to say sorry no refund. Just total ignore. I am not to the point of simply spending my money with Angi, Tasker or one of the other sites. Can't be worse than this. Yesterday I called support on my second phone and was on hold for 4 hours yes 4 and no one ever picked up. I have tried A half dozen times with the same result. Chat is an even bigger joke. Senior leadership must be focused on driving new account set up and can car less about keeping Pros. Sad as a little work on this side and they would win much more in the long run.
(Dallas, TX) Our garage door froze up in the middle of winter right before the holidays and we couldn't get our car out. Ruben Fuentes was over in a flash, gave us an awesome deal, installed a new garage opener in a heartbeat AND gave us advice on another house-falling-apart issue we were having. We absolutely loved him and only wish we had other garages that needed repairing. Thank you so much for your kind and professional service!
All I can do is share my story. I was a member of Thumbtack for about 6 or 7 years and worked hard to achieve 17+ 5 star and 2 4 star reviews. All of our reviews were positive and none were less than 4 stars. I am a landscape designer and installer and each project we do takes on average 1 month. These were hard won reviews and testimonials to my company, its employees and myself. We built a wall for a customer and unfortunately it had a 2" height variation across a 30+ foot run. He must have made a complaint as Thumbtack canceled my account. I tried numerous times to resolve the issue. They refuse tore-open my account. To be honest I don't need or desire the Thumbtack Services and have heard from other sources that many of their leads are bad now. However I would like my reviews to be posted and viewable. Terrible Corporation!
Thumbtack said they would put me in touch with business owners. Needed a mobile groomer. Reached out to multiple and only one responded and took longer than a week. Turns out that Thumbtack does not give the business messages without paying them which they did not tell me. Don't use this service if you want immediate attention.
This review is forJohn S. Burke at Classes Unlimited. He has been my best weapon for my career and educational life. I had no hopes of ever completing an advanced degree, but through John's genius mind, I I graduated this summer with a master's degree.
I tried to used this app for two months and I didn't get nothing the worse thing is when they make believe it some customers they really wanted to hiring me and actually I talked with some "clients" but nothing happen... I searched for those "clients" to know their back ground or see if their company was real but I found 100% of the company not even exists. I called to the phone number where actually they called me and they never answer me. I heard some people recommend this app and now I can tel, a lot of them are fake like this horrible app. Read the policy of this app before anything and Im sure you will notice they are nuts. Good luck fellas!

I was panicking one night after dinner because the power of the electrical outlets in the kitchen area of our condo suddenly went out. Thinking that service will not be provided till the following day, I went online and submitted a service quote via Thumbtack. Literally, within minutes Tony from Shore Break Electric did not just emailed me a quote but actually called me and walked through with me over the phone on resetting the circuit breakers. I would have never known this because I am not an electrician. Not only Tony saved me time and money but he also saved our food in the fridge. Thank you Tony and rest assured that you will be my future electrician.
Been a pro for a couple years... due to their new pricing I am losing money with them now. And I swear it is TT doing the bidding and robbing. I never got as many leads as I did in the past... and the reply rate is amazingly high... but after the first 'What is next' the 'client' goes dark and never replies... of course they have contacted 9 pros with the same comment making TT richer and their pro's poorer. I am done with these con-artists.

Thumbtack Survival Guide:
Make sure to read the FAQs and the small hyperlinks. Prices are hidden in these areas.
Don't engage a lead until you 100% understand the costs. We paid $60 for a single chat communication.
Only buy leads with phone numbers and stay away from all leads where the phone numbers don't match up with the business zip.
Check the leads to be sure the area code matches the business location (use online directories)... And if they still don't pan out - report them to Thumbtack and pray they will refund... or just try something else. :)
Carlos was on time in spite of heavy morning traffic. He presented me with his ID as I had requested when making the appointment. He serviced my computer and answer the questions that I had. I would recommend him to the many seniors who are struggling with their computer. He is soft spoken and he knows his craft. If I need help with my future computer I will contact him again.

It is stunning to me that thumbtack is not offering any discounts to pros when so many people are out of work and losing their businesses.
They just sent an email saying that we are here for you (pros) and what a waste of time it is. Everyone is offering deferred payments, donations, etc. but there is thumbtack still with its billion dollar hand out grabbing for more. Open your eyes and see how completely tone deaf they are acting right now.
Hey thumbtack when you file for your IPO the country is really going to be watching, and setting your "value" can't wait to watch you crash.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
