I am convinced that there isnt even real people looking for jobs on this site Im almost positive that every single job is fake(I. E. made up by thumbtack and they just take your bid money). I am livid with how much money Ive put into Thumbtack with no return. Pathetic.
Disturbed by Orwellian dystopia? This company banned me for no reason after 2 years of me being rated top pro on their platform. I received no warning and was given no chances or explanation. I kept all emails including spam from this business for record, zero emails about this ban. After contacting them and emailing back and forth for days on end, they refuse to tell me why I was banned or re-activate my previously awarded account. I also had over $80 in credits which they didn't repay me. Then they deleted my previous review for being honest about how manipulative and self serving this billion dollar business is. Read other negative reviews, this is common behavior for them. STAY AWAY!
Michael with Mountaineer Construction Services did a tremendous job on my roof and other projects around my house. He acted very professional, courtious honest and went the extra mile to help us with our home improvements
Michael Rodriguez owner of Trailside Handyman and Remodeling is the real Deal great work fair price. But most importantly honest values of years long forgotten. He is punctual and meticulous. His work shows he cares. So do your self a favor and hire him you won't regret it. I certainly didn't.
I signed up to make money, I didn't have any money to spend. The fact they charge you when you link with a potential customer is so shady. It's hard enough out here to live, getting scammed by stupid aps just makes it that much more crappy.
I recently had an event and was recommended to use Marcia Dawn Interior Design, The service she provided was mind blowing, the moment she walked in the door from planning, the layout, color scheme and decor used was to perfection. Marcia made my event one to remember my guest was in total shock up on there arrival. I will be recommend Marcia to plan your next event you won't be disappointed she's what you need for any event your plan.
I hired this Molina's Landscaping from Thumbtack to resod my property. He was to spray before laying the sod and do the landscaping. The company would then continue to follow up with quarterly spraying and stated he would take care of the lawn. The initial work was beautiful. Two to three weeks after the job was done several areas on the yard started turning brown. Tried contacting him and he would not answer the call. Called from different phones and finally he responded asking for photos. Then he stated he would fertilize. He had no problem meeting us and contacting me before we paid for the job but now we have not gotten very much response. Text and called him thus far again no response. Added photo and have others but file is to large.
Arrived on time. His work was exceptional. His prices were more than fair. Went out of his way to help with a personal project. He is highly professional. I would recommend him to anyone. I wouldn't consider calling anyone else for plumbing problems.

The only people making money on Thumbtack is Thumbtack. Charging ridiculous amount of money for small jobs that never pan-out to customers who probably don't exist. Advertising on the side of your vehicle is cheaper and brings in more money. After 3yrs as a Handyman on Thumbtack, there's No doubt they should be investigated for fraud! Tod.L Eastside Property Maintenance llc
On three different occasions I tried to use Thumbtack to find a professional for the job. In each instance I was not contacted by the pro listed as their recommendation. This is nothing more than yellow pages on line. I decided to no longer waste my time by attempting to use their service.
Dont do business with this company, they will steal your money, i try and all they did was used any excuse to get into my account and collect money from me without do nothing but send me emails about supposed job from different state
Don't deal with this guys!!!
They are the worst!
ROGO's window cleaning is professional, licensed, & the owner is former military who earned a Purple Heart. I would happily refer anyone to him. He knows his work, does an excellent job and is "on time"! He also cleans up after a job well done, which is so important to me. If you live anywhere around Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater, do yourself a favor and hire ROGO's window cleaning, you'll be happy you did.
Thumbtack is the biggest ripoff I have ever seen. No accountability. The vast majority of their leads are not even legitimate. I was looking at the reviews on many different consumer sites and thousands agree with that assessment. I am surprised they have not been shut down by a consumer protection agency for fraud.
As a professional, I find this service unhelpful. Customer Service was very limited in their ability to resolve an issue. The pricing on the Instant Quote service is erratic and non-transparent. There is no differentiation in pricing between potential customers that contact the business versus customers that result in a hire. In some industries, there are a lot of "window shoppers," and this makes a big difference. Beware. I strongly discourage.
I been with thumbtack over a year they charge all this crazy amounts of money per lead can you imagine how much money they are making per contractors a day costumers have no idea we get charge just to reply back to massages and if don't get hired you still have pay over $50 $70 dollars per lead.
The owner Jason came to out house looked at the job agreed on a price. Later we even increased the size of the job. He stopped taking our calls and E-Mails (said he was out of town for a week), It, s now been three refused many calls and E-Mails. Please don. T even consider this company. It, s the worst he has held up my project
So I have been using thumbtack for the past 2 years with little issues. Because I have never questioned their billing. However over the past few month I have been receiving direct match lead which bill at more that double a lead I respond to. However these direct match lead only 2 out of 10 people actually contact you after you respond. Kind of like someone at thumbtack is generating false lead info to make $$. So today I open the app and click decline on a lead they wanted $52 for when the job itself would only yield maybe 200 profit and they billed me for an anyway. When I contacted them they said we'll refund you yet they do not refund you the money they only offer you a credit. And when I questioned the representative you told me that's our process and that's a refund. Know a refund is where you get your money back especially when it was fault do on their behalf and not mine I highly recommend not to use them
Thumbtack appears to be a tool for people to request quotes out of curiosity, with no real intention of hiring a contractor - (maybe it's kids just messing around.?).
I've been w/Thumbtack for almost 1yr and initially pursued leads and spent hundreds of dollars in the first couple of months, only to realize that 99% of these quotes -you would never get a reply back or anything! You are tied to Thumbtack's portal to try and follow up on your leads, which sucks, because you're paying for something that you get no direct way of contacting that lead and most the time the listed lead never has a phone #. There are plenty of other lead generation sites that will do this!
Thumbtack customers are not looking for true professionals, but at best - if it's a real lead, the cheapest price.
As a Thumbtack Pro - save your time & money and put your marketing dollars elsewhere.
They have you set up an auto quoting service and if the clients respond, your charged 4 times the amount of normal quotes. They give clients auto responses in order to respond so they can rip people off for more money.
My advice to new members is to try another platform. Even though I didn't contact any customer, they took nearly $350 off my credit card. Every time I objected, they didn't respond. A message is sent to my phone. As soon as I open the message, the money is cut off. This is a complete fraud. Finally, credit I had to cancel my card. I can't even block incoming messages like viruses
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
