They stole all my husbands expensive shirts, all my gold and much more!
All the ladies that came always were in pairs, or left two and went somewhere else. The cleaning is no related to walls, under or behind furniture, noisy, talking all the time on the phone. To be fair to other cleaning staff the ones that came to my house were ALL illegal Brazilians. This happened to me all throughout 2023-24. Sometimes the missing items were noticed long after. Because I did not like their cleaning I would change. One more thing. I DID have a Brazilian cleaning lady for over 10 years. EXCELLENT, un dusted the ceiling fans, cleaned under the furniture, used the duster to clean wall……. NEVER did we missed a thing! But of course in Brazil she used to clean for the famous ROBERTO CARLO!
Thumbtack sent me a very incompetent contractor, a David Ramirez, who ruined my patio, patio steps and did poor work refinishing my bathroom cabinets He spoke poor English and did not follow instructions. After he did the damage, I tried to verify his identity, but 2 background check reports could find no such person at the address he gave me or the address on his Home Depot invoice. His phone came back with no owner. Thumbtack is supposed to verify the contractor's identity, past employment and work history and check references, but they did none of that in this case. They give a $2,500 guarantee on all the work of their contractors perform per their contract but are now refusing to pay me for the damage. Their contractors have a class action suit against them for overcharging on leads and charging hidden fees. An all around $#*!ty company.
Awful source of leads. When customer has no intention to hire and it's clearly there in a conversation, they will literally steal your money and not offer any refund. Don't do business with folks like this.
I was extremely disappointed with Thumbtack. The platform provided fake leads that didn't match the service I was looking for. Not only did these leads fail to return messages or calls, but when I reached out to request a refund, their team insisted on a screenshot as proof that the client wouldn't respond—which is nearly impossible to obtain. This convoluted process left me feeling frustrated and misled by the low-quality leads. Overall, my experience with Thumbtack was a complete waste of time, and I wouldn't recommend it.
Thumbtack will charge your card for old leads every time your weekly budget re loads. Call the leads right back and 3 other pros already responded. And no real person ever to talk to about anything or a refund. Refunds are always denied.
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint about Thumbtack, a platform that claims to connect professionals with potential clients. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from transparent or ethical, and I believe it is important to bring these deceptive practices to light to protect others from falling victim.
I signed up for a professional profile on Thumbtack's platform, under the impression that it was a straightforward service where I could choose whether or not to pursue leads. At no point during the sign-up process or subsequent usage was I made aware that Thumbtack would charge me arbitrarily for leads without my explicit consent or approval.
Here are the specific issues I have encountered:
Unauthorized Charges for Leads: Thumbtack charged my account for leads without providing adequate notice or seeking my approval. These charges were not only unexpected but also exorbitant in some cases, making them financially burdensome.
Lack of Transparency: The platform's billing practices are not clearly disclosed. Thumbtack did not sufficiently explain that charges for leads would occur automatically, nor did it provide me with a clear mechanism to opt in or out of such charges.
Irrelevant or Unresponsive Leads: Many of the leads I was charged for were irrelevant to my services or unresponsive, rendering these charges completely unjustified. Thumbtack's quality control over leads appears to be lacking, yet they continue to bill professionals indiscriminately.
Difficult Refund Process: When I attempted to dispute these charges and request a refund, I was met with resistance and an opaque process that made resolution nearly impossible. Thumbtack's refusal to address valid complaints shows a lack of accountability.
I believe Thumbtack's practices are misleading and exploitative. Charging professionals arbitrarily without clear consent undermines trust and damages the reputation of the platform. Additionally, these practices may violate fair business and consumer protection laws.
I urge others to be extremely cautious before using Thumbtack, and I recommend regulatory bodies take a closer look at the company's practices to ensure compliance with consumer rights. No professional should be subjected to unexpected financial penalties for services they did not knowingly or willingly agree to.
Thumbtack needs to take immediate steps to improve transparency, provide clear opt-in/opt-out options for charges, and ensure a fair and reasonable refund process. Until these changes are made, I strongly advise others to stay away from this platform.
I had an appointment yesterday with a company Atikoom, LLC. Thy didn't come, didn't call, didn't email. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate as I planned my work day around them coming to work on my computer. I won't use this service again. I hate waiting for Geek Squad at Best Buy, but at least they're there.
They steal your money. The client sends you a message and they already take 35 dollars from your card. This company should be closed. Absurd! You pay to receive messages from potential clients who have the right to write up to 5 professional messages. Imagine how much they don't earn per person if they don't close the business. Absurd!
Don't bother working with them! They are useless and using bots and not qualified leads that request a job and want to pay 50 bucks while some projects are minimum $500-750. No customer service total bs and you will lose loads of money on "leads" as they call them but it's just fake accounts that show some sort of activity.
A complete scam, all they do is charge, most of the clients do not exist, everything is perfectly set up so that you cannot complain. I do not recommend them at all. They are a mockery of professionals who are trying hard to start their business.
I've been with them for 7 years gone down hill just charge me $63.89 for a job to rake leaves which I would charge customers $100.00 to do plus I have to pay my employees and gas and disposal costs I would loose $
Thumbtack es una aplicación que hace mucho fraude la mayoría de sus clientes son falsos y además son muy caros no se las recomiendo el lo absoluto
They charge for every "lead" they give you. 90% of the "leads" are fake and are probably created by their own bots. It's a total scam, and customer service is practically nonexistent! They are charging more for leads than the revenue you will get. For example $68.00 for a fake lead that might have netted a total of $390.00 if it were real.
It's a total scam!
I was charged a few weeks ago and I immediately logged in and closed my account and reached out to support to ask how to request a refund. I was told the only way to request a refund was to reactivate the account. I reactivated the account and requested a refund and asked them to close my account and not to charge me again. The refund request was denied (surprise surprise) and I was charged again because my account was active. I logged back into my account and deactivated the account (again). I called and asked why I keep getting charged and they said you have to reactivate your account in order to request a refund. Complete scam! Do NOT do business with this company. Also, the only way to view the receipts from their fraudulent charges is to reactivate your account, which I will not do because they will charge me again.
As a photographer, I have profited off Thumbtack and they have allowed me to make great relationships with ongoing clients I, but there have been several times that I have reached out immediately to a potential client who has selected me, but the experience gave me concerns with the legitimacy of the client & their request. The experience ranges from a non-response despite being the first to contact them and even weeks later my messages were never read, to giving illogical reasons to not accept the job (they didn't realize the set price was up to their discretion not mine), to being an automated sales prompt when I called the provided number, most of which Thumbtack refused to understand and refund me on.
That said I'm not spiteful towards the company, I simply want newcomers to be fully aware of what you are getting with Thumbtack.
The biggest problem with Thumbtack is that they do not make it evident to those hiring, how it costs workers $20-$200 for just selecting them as a possible choice. This allows window shoppers to unknowingly set workers back an entire days worth of work.
I have been fortunate from thumbtack but that is not worth their seemingly bankrupt ethics in how they do business.
Here is proof why Thumbtack is an unethical fraudster company.
Please see attachment as proof! THUMBTACK SCAM!. THUMBTACK SWINDLERS!
There is a project that a lady contacted me about - painting one room. Not only did Thumbtack charge me personally outrageously - $50 for the lead, but Thumbtack charged 3 other guys $50 dollars as well. That is $200 for giving 4 guys THE SAME LEAD!When the job itself is only worth about $200! That means Thumbtack is charging and making 100% of what the price of the job itself is worth!
That is called, PRICE GOUGING, which is illegal, and the Attorney General should be contacted because of this IMMEDIATELY.
AND THEY TOOK $480 FROM ME WITH NO REFUND! I AM NEW TO THEIR SYSTEM AND I HAVEN'T DONE ANY JOB AND THEREFORE MADE NOTHING FROM THIS STUPID APP!
I hope they all repent of this unethical behavior!
I was longtime customer with Thumbtack. They used to be decent. I don't recommend customer or contractor to do any business with them. I am an air-conditioning contractor and they got too big for their britches. They just wanna rip you off. You can definitely say I am finished with tI was longtime customer with Thumbtack. Thumbtack is now a total a scam. In 2018 they only charged $5 per lead and helped me get my small business off the ground. They have made so many changes without explanation, and now they charge $35 a person that just sends you a message, regardless of if they respond to you or not. Also, whenever a customer changes their preferences and want something that you don't offer mid conversation, Thumbtack will not refund you even though their policy says this qualifies for a refund. When a customer is discriminating against workers I have to offer them, they no longer refund for that. They don't tell you how much leads are going to be or even how it works, they make you feel like you are going to be offered support or treated fairly if you are a "top pro" but they harass you and make you jump through hoops to get back money for leads that do not match your preferences, despite saying we are owed that as hard working "top pros."
The seller kept messaging me at 10:00 p.m. demanding that I hop on a video chat after I told him I'm going to sleep. I asked if he read my text saying that I'm going to sleep but he didn't answer so I told him to read my text at which point he sent me this. What an $#*!, both him and thumbtack who did nothing to help me.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
