I was the victim of the recent postal service NON delivery debacle especially packages. This book ("Human Capital") was supposed to be delivered (so they said via their Informed Delivery service) LAST Friday. So I signed up for tracking alerts and the first email said this Thursday for delivery of the book. Then a second email said Tuesday (when it FINALLY arrived! And because I set up tracking alerts, now MAIL itself is NOT being delivered to my house as well as packages) I contacted ThriftBooks. Very prompt in apologizing for late delivery of the book (again, no fault of theirs; it's the post office that REFUSES to do their job timely or at all!), and they issued a refund. Plus I didn't have to pay even if the book arrived. I'm not a person who lies or cheats or looks for a handout. Since the book arrived, I resubmitted payment and let them know the check was in the mail. I guess I surprised them. This is a company who not only cares about their customers, but they want to make things right for them as well. A VERY gracious, friendly understanding book company! And those prices can't be beat either! Books are in very good condition for used.
I've ordered from thriftbooks a handful of times but have finally learned my lesson. They keep sending me the wrong books! Not once or twice buy multiple times. Twice it's been the completely wrong books... title, author wrong...(not to mention these wrong books were dirty gross! I'm talking pages stuck together with food, yucky stuff falling out from between the pages, & stiff liquid damaged pages!) Another time it was an order of 3 books & 2 of them were supposed to be hardcover but turned out to be arc paperbacks. They then tried to replace them with the correct copies but once again they sent arc paperbacks.
This company or their employees are completely incapable of posting the correct books & then mailing the correct books. They must waste a ton of money sending the wrong books & then having to send refund.
On top of this their shipping is soooo sloooow!
It's taken me a handful of tries but I've finally learned my lesson & will no longer shop thriftbooks or any other sellers accompanied with thriftbooks.
I've been using ThriftBooks for years. I purchase from them maybe five times a year. There have been a couple times where the books were icky, but for the most part I've been satisfied with my purchases. Because of this, I recommended ThriftBooks to my mom. She was looking for one particular book from a collection she has that had somehow been lost over the years. I found it on ThriftBooks and after we reviewed the books condition, she asked me to buy it for her. I did. When it arrived she was disappointed. The book was kind of junky. It was an old library book and they had painted black and white numbers on the spine. When she put it in her library it looked really tacky and jumped out as not fitting in with the rest of the series of books. When I looked at the listing again, it was obvious the photo was not the same book that was sent. I contacted customer service who stated that they researched the order and found that it was the same book and that I could return it but would not be reimbursed for shipping costs. I sent them photos of the book that was offered and the book that was sent, told them it was false advertising and ethically wrong. They never replied back. For this I am giving them one star for poor ethics and customer relations.
I bought a Business Math book. Perfect used book like new, the best price i found, the delivery for free and, fair time. I highly recommend Triftbooks.
ThriftBooks.com WILL RIPP YOU OFF. THEY ARE DISHONEST & SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN.
This is the MOST DISHONEST ONLINE COMPANY IN THE WORLD.
They LIE and CHEAT you out of your money.
BE WARNED. DO NOT BUY FROM THRIFTBOOKS.COM
I had ordered a book for a gift and it never made it to my door step. They say it was delivered but no, it was not. It wasn't a huge expense but I'm still out money.
I ordered a book on Amazon. Listed as "Very Good". The book was marked as shipped but did not ship for 7 additional days. I received a totally different book than what I ordered, different ISBN#, Different cover and much lower quality than what I ordered. I called and Thriftbooks refuses to take my book back and refund my full amount that I paid. DO NOT BUY FROM THRIFTBOOKS.
Ordered April and May 2021: Was nervous cause even though my mom & sister LOVE Thriftbooks, the online reviews weren't great. The prices are very enticing (though shipping to Canada can be pricey depending on what you order) and I ordered literally 12 books. 2 of them have come early and I couldn't be happier with them! I ordered "The Yellow Wallpaper" By Gilman in 'acceptable' and "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown in 'good' condition and they are in near perfect condition (especially the 'Yellow wallpaper'. No stains, rips, smells or other visible damage. These both came sooner than expected! Just know that since we're in the middle of COVID and postal services are used to the max, PLUS if you don't live in the USA, it might take longer than 2 weeks. These two came in 12 days I think. The first time I used the site, I ordered a book in the wrong edition by accident and quickly cancelled it. I think it's up to the seller whether or not they will cancel the order (depends on their policy --not entirely sure-). Anyway, the order was cancelled and the card was refunded promptly!
Very happy and am feeling optimistic/excited for my next orders. :)
I received tracking information that two of the three books I had ordered from Thriftbooks were to arrive this Monday March 7th, 2022. They did not arrive. I then put in a call to USPS. They returned my phone call after doing a search for the books. The books were never handed off to them from OSM a shipper used by Thriftbooks. They said call Thriftbooks. I did and had a very unhelpful conversation with their customer service agent. Even though I explained the tracking information stated the books were to arrive by Monday March 7th and they had not. The Thriftbooks customer service agent response was the books have more time to arrive and that time has not expired yet. So the fact that no one knows where the books are, that is not an issue, just that the time limit has not expired. Wow, that was really helpful. To top it off Thriftbooks sent me a survey for my review of the call. I gave it the worst review possible. Apparently their system did not like that as it resent the same survey to me no less than eight times in a row. I guess they expected me to change my mind and give a glowing review. My answer will not change their customer service was very "Unhelpful"!
Books had stains that I had to clean off. Teacher book was missing pages for chapters 1-7. Do not recommend.
I ordered a book called The Brief and Wonderous life of Oscar Tao for my English class. The cover of the book in the picture was written in English. The name of the book before, during, and after purchase was in English. I paid extra for expedited shipping. I received the book almost three weeks later and it was in SPANISH. I contacted thriftbooks via email only to be told that it was listed as in Spanish (NEVER POSTED ANYWHERE BEFORE OR AFTER PURCHASE) and that I couldn't return or exchange it. Complete waste of money and time! If I could give zero stars, I would. And the icing on the cake? When I check my order history on the website the picture of the book shows up with an English cover for about two seconds before the picture randomly changes to a Spanish cover... Definitely some shady crap going on with this site!
I gave them $6 for a book. They sent me the wrong book, and say they do not process returns valued at less than $15. So I am simply out of luck.
Loveee thriftbooks for cheap books it always takes less than a week to ship or at most 1 & a half. I always recieve my books with nothing missing and i loveee this site defiantly recommend it 10/10
The book that was sent is NOT A HARDCOVER! The book was sent in a plastic bag and the 4 corners of the book are DAMAGED! The top of the books pages have been raked and are DAMAGED! The spline has DAMAGE! I am so MAD! The incompetence to not send $70.00 book in a Box from a book store is baffling? Thriftbooks is not a good Steward of books and should immediately get out of the business and stop DESTROYING these out of print Books!
I've been able to get the best prices, free shipping, and a free book almost every other order because of their rewards program. Great set up!
"Very good"= Ok for yourself, but if you plan on giving as a gift, you are better off buying New! IMO.
I'd rather buy a new book in future, it took longer than I expected to be delivered also, book was cut through the pages. Looked like a knife cut
Do not buy books here they send wrong books and if u complain alot they block u like they did me on ebay.com or even amazon.com fyi rude seller i spent 160.00 here i hate thiftbooks
If you are a potential Canadian customer do not patronize this book supplier. Their delivery charges are exorbitant.
Answer: It sounds like a question you need to ask them directly.
Answer: You should think twice before paying international postal rates and customs fees for used books.
Answer: When this happens, just tell them and they'll give you a refund. Books are sent via USPS, so good luck with a tracking number. Very occasionally they will lose a shipment, and this is not Thriftbooks' fault.
Answer: Library Binding is a term used for books that are in large print.
Answer: I donate my books to the library for their book sale
Answer: I ordered through the ThriftBooks website. They send me an order confirmation email. Then they send me shipping confirmation email with tracking. Shipping confirmation emails may be sent separately for each book if they come from different locations. If you keep track of the emails, you know exactly what the situation is for your order. I have ordered over 30 books, have check on the status often, and had no problems. I'm not sure what happens if you don't have email, but is that a possibility in this day and age? If you ordered by phone, I'm not sure why you didn't call them for the status.
Answer: They do not accept checks or money orders. You need to use credit, debit (cards), or PayPal.
