Target Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company reflects a mix of positive and negative sentiments. Customers appreciate the convenience, product variety, and competitive pricing, particularly praising the store's layout and exclusive brands. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, with reports of long wait times, unresponsive staff, and issues with online orders and returns. Many customers express frustration over outdated products and perceived indifference from management. These trends suggest that while the company offers a strong shopping experience, substantial improvements in customer support and service reliability are needed to enhance overall customer satisfaction.

Horrible Customer Service
July 28, 2025
Updated review

If you are calling the North Olmsted, Ohio location for Customer Service…. Good Luck. This store NEVER, EVER answers the phone for Customer Service……. EVER! It doesn't matter what day or what time of day. You will NEVER get anyone to answer the phone. If you call Corporate customer service to file a complaint…. The representatives will tell you that they will contact the store to let them know they are NOT answering their phones but there are no guarantee's or promises that the store will answer the phone in the future. Huh? If you go into the store at the service counter…multiple employee's will stand around talking about their weekend & laugh & giggle…. All while their phone rings off the hook.

Missing Merchandise, Bad lettuce/Dog Food
March 1, 2023
Previous review

Target needs to get their act together. We shop online and do store pick-ups on a regular basis where their employees bring out merchandise to your car. At least 50% of the time, Target bills us in full but we end up with missing items when we unload the car and bring everything in the house.

The other night we were missing (2) packs of ground meat. Although Target did refund us, I don't understand why this keeps happening.

Christmas of 2022 my wife ordered all groceries. When she got home, instead of groceries she received 15 items of all women's & baby clothing. She took everything back to the store and received a $5 Target gift card for the inconvenience.

I wonder? When the store closes at night, does Target think that all the left over carts and totes full of purchased merchandise is a gift from God? Is it a miracle from heaven?

Lastly, my daughter picked up items for taco's. We pre-ordered online and the employee brought out the most disgusting bag of old lettuce.

We did not find out about it until after my daughter got home. The picture is actually the good side.

Update: On 6/11/23, my wife purchased a bag of Purina One Dog Food. Our dog hates it. The neighborhood stray cat that visits us each day and is always hungry, does not even want to eat it.

I called our local Target store on 8/3/23 and explained everything to the store manager. I advised her that we have the product in a separate container and our receipt….but no packaging. I simply asked for Target store credit so that we could purchase something else.

The manager refused and said that they need to have the original product packaging back so that they can reseal the item and put the product back on the shelf. I am NOT kidding.

Are they CRAZY?

Target also sells moldy Freshpet Dog Food that was 14 days old in our refrigerator with a constant temperature of 39 degrees. The product doesn't expire until 10/6/23.

We are officially done with TARGET.

Consistently frustrating and disappointing. The company seems to have a complete disconnect between it's online operations and its in-store service. Time and again, I've had issues with incorrect deliveries and order pickups where items were missing, only to be met with uncaring and demeaning customer service that places all the blame on me. They refuse to help or offer any form of compensation for their mistakes.

Do yourself and your eyes a favor and see a real optometrist, in a real office. You're not saving any money at $180 to visit with the guy at Target. I have been wearing Acuvue Oasys for 35 years and my eyes are more comfortable with them, than without. I have been having a little trouble with small writing as I age, so I thought I would see if my prescription needed to be changed. Well, the eye guy at Target decided to now put me contacts with astigmatism. He gave me a trial pair to wear from that visit until the new prescription came from Target Optical. BUT, the sample pair was different from what I would receive in the mail, which is not kosher. My eyes were fine with the trial pair, but when the astigmatism lenses came, I had to remove them within a few hours and my eyes burned for days. I complained to Johnson&Johnson who requested the used pair for lab work. Target Optical is making the return process impossible as they don't process returns for instore purchases. BTW, they are partnered with 1800-CONTACTS and just using their own packing slips. They are good for nothing. Use 1800-CONTACTS for lenses and stay far away from their over aged, retired eye "guys".

Three packages were sent to the WRONG address. Uncaring, apathetic customer service. Refused to help out. Blamed me for THEIR mistakes & also their excuse was that 'I didn't read their website guidelines.' Guidelines have nothing to do with address errors that THEY MADE. Wasted my valuable time running around, calling, searching, emailing, knocking on doors until I found my packages. Refused to compensate for all of the troubles I encountered. Multiple people I know & on reddit mainly had minor delays & still got a discount or gift card. I get all these headaches & got NOTHING. Target just lost my business permanently!

Target cancelled a delivery to me based on proven lies. Then, Customer Service would not allow me to talk, and spoke to me in a demeaning, accusatory manner. I ordered 10 items from Target, which has delivered to me for the past 6 years. The delivery never came, and no one contacted me. They claim they came to my door. I live in a concierge building, and when a delivery comes, the concierge calls me. They did NOT come. They claim they tried to reach me and I was "unavailable". I found out (the hard way), that Target subcontracts its deliveries to a company called Shipt. Evidently, although Target agreed Target has my correct phone number, they say apparently Shipt did not. They charged my card, for $75. When I called CS (Customer Service), Target insisted Shipt tried to reach me and deliver the order, even after I explained how my concierge, and Target, both had my correct number. I never knew about Shipt, nor how they got my number, right or wrong. The CS person said Target would not contact Shipt with my correct number. They said I must navigate that, myself. I replied that I had nothing to do with Shipt, and if Target hires them, it is Target's responsibility give the correct delivery info to their subcontractor. The CS agent would not cooperate, and insisted I must track down Shipt. According to the Customer Service agent, Ella, everything was my fault, no apologies, no empathy. Just persistent insistence that I was wrong, that I was lying, and that it's my responsibility to contact Shipt. So I will not use Target any more. Their CS department should be renamed, Customer Disservice! This complaint is a warning for others.

Preauthorized the total of my incomplete purchase THREE TIMES OVER across two PayPal accounts just because I added them to the order when I was thinking about placing it/switched the payments and PayPal accounts around to make it so that the charges would go where I wanted them to, but instead they held the funds X3 & on both accounts even though I ultimately discarded the order/never actually placed it! I deleted the items in the cart and even removed my PayPal accounts from my Target account in an effort to get my funds back, since that's what they suggest you do in their FAQs to facilitate a hold release, but to no avail.
Their customer service seems to be totally clueless about the issue and referred me back to PayPal even though they clearly state in the aforementioned FAQs that PayPal will not be able to do anything about it. This is on the merchant to either finalize or cancel the transaction/authorizations, but they won't! In fact, they advise that these PayPal holds can last up to A YEAR before being released! So now I'm out almost $90 and I have absolutely nothing to show for it but stress and frustration, Avoid adding payment methods to online Target purchases until you're absolutely certain you want to place that order or else risk losing access to your funds indefinitely!

Scam gift cards
December 19, 2024

Purchases online earned a 10 dollar gift card.
When used the gift card in store towards purchases, I noticed the next day that they charged my bank account as a separate transaction for the $10 card. Waited on phone call to customer service 28 mins, to no avail. WHAT A SCAM! THIS IS WHY I SELDOM SHOP AT TARGET.

The service in Beaumont TX store is very poor. I went there to pick up an order placed online. When I arrived there were 4 people ahead of me in the line. Soon there were 6 people behind me. There was only one associate working the pickup orders. She had to work the front service deck and go to the back of the store to retrieve the orders. I was there 45 minutes just to pick up an order. I asked for a manager. A dept. manager came; not the manager of this dept. Another dept. manager came. Then an assistant manager. The manager refused to come to speak with me. The store was not full considering it is one week before Christmas. There was merchandise on the floor in the women's clothing areas, the floors were actually dirty, associates avoid eye contact to discourage customers from asking for assistance. I left my phone number and asked that the manager contact me. It has been 7 hours since I left the message. I do not expect a call. She was too cowardly or apathetic to speak with a concerned customer. These are the reasons that most customers prefer shopping the largest online retailer. This may be just another store to shutter in Beaumont, not from low demand but because of extremely poor customer service and the ineffective and inefficient management.

H2O Simm card Old Dates
December 18, 2024

I just purchased a H2O simm card from Target. This is one of the few places to purchase the card. I spent over an hour on the phone with H2O updating and installing the new card and found out that it was an old card. The date of the card is 2018. This makes my phone unable to send or receive pictures of any kind. Skip the BS and just get your simm card sent from H2O, it will save you a lot of headaches. Not the first time of experiences getting out dated merchandise.

Scary target.com
December 17, 2024

Ordered from target.com, picked up 1 of 3 packages. Told the other packages did come to the store, there is no record of pickup. Called store. They agreed that the packages came to store, and they are aware they were not picked up. Store told me to call Target.com for refund, since they cannot find packages and they know I didn't pick them up. Target.com said: "No refund for you!" Just like that! Target.com said that I wanted to receive free packages by stealing them and asking for a refund. Stolen from where? They came to the store and the store shipping clerk acknowledged receiving them, and there was no pickup. I didn't get my order and wanted my $33-$35 back.
Target.com said: No, and we're tired of talking with you. Enjoy your holiday - minus your money, we're keeping your payment, no refund. Wow, setting the standard for excellent
Customer service. And just like that, my money is stolen from me - no exchange of goods or services for my money, not even a gift card. Too scared to even go back. Will I be assaulted and frisked, money stolen at the door? Target is REALLY making money ($33-$35). They are such a superstore they don't even have to sell you the goods, just take your money, no matter how small the amount. Amazing customer relation strategy - I didn't receive my whole order, but Target.com gets to keep the
money I paid in advance for the order? I never understood online ordering before, but I do now: you may or may not get your goods, but your money is theirs from the start. I am not a gambler.

Waste of Time
December 14, 2024

I can call in to check a gift card balance WITHOUT an account or password but I am forced to login to my account if I want to check the balance online. Target does not need to know my personal information as to the balance of my gift card. If I don't have an account does that mean I can only check via calling? Are there any brains in corporate American anymore? The most senseless thing. One brain cell will take you far.

I placed a order for pick up at the inver grove heights, mn location. Upon calling and wantng to be connected to guest services on a question. After being connected to this department there was no answer, the phone would ring and ring and then it would disconnect. I tried several times during the day and no answer. Upon speaking to my daughter she stated that they never answer their phone and she has tried many times in the past year to check on things and always no answer. I was an avid Target fan years ago when they sold brands that people actually liked and wanted to wear. Then for some reason, who ever they have as buyers lately, are totally missing the mark, esp on clothing. I never see anyone looking (or buying) their clothes these days. I only buy here for my 5% off w/Red card purchases on certain items. Have no idea if they can 'recoup' as they've been 'in the dumps' now for years imo.

Zero customer service
September 3, 2024

I got a target credit card because they offered a $50 off coupon. You can only use it for purchases over $50 with a very long list of exclusions. I tried to use it today when I was making a large purchase. Apparently, it expired yesterday. I spent 40 minutes on the phone being passed around. Finally I reach someone who tells me tough luck. They won't extend the coupon one day. I'm done with target. I won't ever shop there again. "Tough luck" to them.🤬🤬🤬

1) Buying with their customer pick up service today in East Memphis, TN 6/25/24: they require waiting in line with all those who have returns or disputes, then waiting for someone to shorten the long line, then waiting for someone to run to the other side of the store for the product. No uniforms so unclear who's staff and who's not. Total wait: 25 minutes for toothpaste.
2) Not a good company. They bow to all left-wing activist demands, aiding the exploitation of kids that has become so common in this modern version of the USA which is held hostage to the hyenas of sexual perversion. When they were finally forced to relent by the backlash, they did not apologize. Given today's experience, I now intend to maintain a strict boycott of them indefinitely.

Pre-sale should be a pre-crime.
Looking at the receipt of an online order from Targé, I noticed a new charge, it is called Regional Fees. Regional Fees opens up to tell you: "Regional Fees - Fee Total $1.00 - Bag Fee 1.00
Regional fees are based on your address and/or pickup store location.
Bag Fee
Bag fees are required by law in your area. This estimated bag fee is for the cost of 10 bags at this store. You'll only be charged for the bags used for your order. For Drive Up or Order Pickup orders, the final bag fee can be refunded at pickup if you decline bags or bring your own. If an EBT card has been applied as payment on your order, bag fees will not be charged."
That is, Target, is pre-charging you for something that you might be interested in purchasing. I hope this heinous practice is not adopted by other underhanded businesses, or they will be pre-charging a 50K dollar Regional Fee next time I am window shopping for a used car.

I'm looking for a men's sport coat... been 20+ years. Need to try on. Search engines were worthless in finding a 'local' business. Settles for Target - has good selection and only 50 miles away...
Except all of the prices are 'online purchase', just like the way Walmart.com does - bait and switch, shows one price but when you get into the store, price is way different. Guess Target doesn't want people going into their stores either, just order online and have someone bring out to your car.
Since I don't know my size anymore, guess I'll order online, have them bring it out to my car, try it on and if it doesn't fit, refuse it and just sit in my car and order a different size for them to bring out to me.

Website Broken
May 20, 2023
Previous review

During a power outage, I looked for a USB fan with my phone, which I HATE when I have PC with 4 monitors, but the power was out. I also have plenty of power 'bricks' for recharging my phone and tablet... so a fan shouldn't be a problem.
First, the website gave me what I was looking for... and the 2nd item is a car plugin, not USB, the 4th item is a wall plug-in fan, the 5th item is battery powered (only),... Guess Target's search engine is based on Google's search engine.
Next, I tried to give feedback, but the 'Feedback' button at the bottom of the webpage doesn't do anything. So I tried the 'Contact Us', but that seems to be only restricted to 'orders'... but they offer a 'chat', which I won't attempt on my phone (I do not text).
Lastly, why do they show 'when purchased online' pricing? What's the price if I walk into the store... like Walmart.com, 20% to 100+% higher priced?
