Talbots is a renowned American retailer specializing in women's clothing, shoes, and accessories. I'm very disappointed in many ways. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. Recently their policy for returns has changed, which dramatically impacts buyers who are not near a store (unless they want to pay a return shipping fee). Their sizes vary so wildly, there is no way you can order with certainty. Their in store service is rude, I'm very dissatisfied and will no longer shop there.
I have been a long term shopper at Talbots and the quality used to be worth the prices. However, there is a noticeable decline in the quality and garments I have purchased more recently do not launder well at all despite following the recommended laundry method in the garments. Some were in such poor condition after the first laundry that they can no longer be worn. Given the prices even on sale, this is inexcusable. Also, their return or exchange policy is within 60 days of purchase. Most companies have a longer time frame. I wanted to exchange several pairs of pants that wear never worn and still had the tags on them for smaller sizes but even though the same items were still carried, I was denied. I will no longer shop at Talbots!
This review of Talbots is part of my "Hall of Fame" series... companies that once were aces... but have lowered their standards.
You epitomized the look of the classically well dressed American woman. Timeless styles... natural fibers.
Now your goods are made off shore... the styles are tight and skimpy... what on God's earth happened to you?
Get your preppy groove back on please... come back to your loyalists.
Three commonplace stars for you, Talby!
So are you prejudice against women of plus sizes or you just need them to order on line so you can make bundles of money on shipping? You sent out a notice saying it is because it will give plus sizes more variety on line but how about being able to try things on? I guess you think the plus sizes take up too much room in your prejudice stores. Is the size a problem for you? Not high class enough? Thanks for rewarding all the ladies who have given you lots of money over the years for those plus sizes! Sisters support each other and DO NOT shop at Talbots!
Try this one. It's an oldie but they have stepped it up over the years and are now, well fashionable. Go to the ISpy section and click choose your look. It's pretty easy to navigate. Free shipping for online purchases. Look for coupons. It's usually cheaper than the store unless they are closeouts.
Bummed about some of the clothing being really thin- hello cashmere sweaters I'm looking at you- but the quality of the shoes is exceptional-
Talbots clothing is not returnable. They are wrinkly and cheap for top dollar. Retaining your business is not important to them. I only want to shop at stores such as Chico's that stand behind their products, not scamming their customers.
I was looking for a pair of Ivory hampshirew pants in size 12 petite, and the associate Jean in Garden City Cranston checked multiple locations and online and was unsuccessful. She went over and beyond but it was busy and the phones were in use and had to keep waiting for the phone. She told me the above # store had one. I called and caught a woman named Dawn. She also went over and beyond to find these pants. She went into the basement and checked all over the store to find this one pair that she may have had but to no avail. She gave me 5 store numbers to try and on the first try in New York I was successful. This is why I shop at Talbots, the sales people I deal with are pleasant and do go overboard to make the customer happy. A big shout out to Jean and Dawn for their efforts!
Thank you ladies, and Talbots.
What happened to Talbots? Used to buy nice classic clothing there 3 decades ago and as recently as some 5-10 years ago. They used to have pretty models, too. When things were on sale, it was real sale. But the last couple years, the styles became dowdy, and since the pandemic, it's getting ridiculous. Sky rocketing prices but much worse quality and styles. All the tops are extra long and look like lounge wears. The pants are all over $100, even on sale they are at least $80. I used to buy nice full length pants on sale for less than $30 even several years ago. The models aren't attractive at all. If you are trying to appeal to older women (I heard they are now more targeting at older women), why would older women spend $$$ for lounge wears intead of just shopping at Walmart? The prices and qualities don't match. It's sad. I haven't bought anything from Talbots this year.
While I absolutely love Talbots styling, the other half of the equation is miserable.
1) There is no packing slip
2) No information on return policy or procedures
3) Email to them said I had to do a return and repurchase
4) Return address is to Pitney Bowes, not Talbots, without an explanation. Concerned, I had to research it, to find Talbots uses PB for this service.
The item was purchased on a great sale. The repurchase is at full price. I will have to push back on customer service to get a price match. I will honestly think twice about ordering from Talbots online again.
As several reviewers have already pointed out, Talbots was once a very classy, dependable brand. Classic, beautiful, and extremely well-made clothing. Now most items are frumpy in style, obviously more cheaply made, and seemingly designed for the 55++ age group. Yet even then, other stores catering to the older set, such as Chico's, are managing to produce more attractive, stylish clothes.
Like others who have been devoted Talbots customers, I find it really sad that this brand seems "on its way out." What a shame!
For years I have ordered the ballerina neck Pima Shirts until this last year, after more then 6-7 years they changed their cut on the shirt to accommodate the over weight women, it used to have an hour glass cut but since American's are getting heavier the cut is now straight and a bit longer to allow for no waist lines and fatter guts. Sad because I loved this shirt for years but wasted a lot of money with my usual order last year. Never again, sorry Talbots you lost another customer.
What has happened to Talbots? The local store used to have such good customer service and it was my favorite women's clothing store, but since Talbots closed so many stores, there corporate customer service is terrible. Worst of all is their shipping and return policies. For 2 years they blamed their extremely long hold times on the pandemic. The quality of their clothes has also decreased. I would keep trying if only had free returns, but can't take the chance at $9. Shipping and handling fee to return.
Karon was exceptional as customer service goes. I had a great time trying on clothes for an upcoming vacation. I really appreciated het hands on and helped me pick out coordinating tops and bottoms
Thanks!
I have been shopping at Talbots for 25 years and have become very disenchanted with their style and quality of clothing. Their tops/shirts/blouses are boxy and the prints are very large and unflattering! Also, the t-shirts shrink horribly! I am a size 12 (M) and don't like real fitted clothes but would welcome seeing more tailored garments, as they had in the past. Talbots is now too expensive for the quality, outdated matronly styles and fit. Hope they return to the beautiful classy retail store they once were.
I ordered over £40.00 worth of clothing from this site on 2nd Dec 2022 and despite many emails back and forth and every excuse under the sun, I have never received my order. I have requested a full refund which they have confirmed I will receive but as yet I'm still waiting.
Do not order from Talbots. I returned $150 and change, tracking shows items returned 4 weeks ago, no refund, no answered emails, no answering of phone- spoke to someone who said let me put you on hold then click, hung up on me. Next course of action, bank fraud of their part.
Toxic, deplorable and self-serving management in the last month! There was a Store Manager who was dedicated, loyal to Talbots brand and supported associates, dice she left everything went down hill! One individual has been promoted who is all about herself has no respect for associates or customers, is demeaning, sits in the back office during busy times and does not care about promoting Talbots.
I had exhausted all efforts in finding appropriate clothes for a funeral I had to attend the following day. Just at closing I sneaked into Talbots Factory Store in Manchester, VT, where I was helped by Joyce. She had supreme people skills & knew the inventory well. Within 15 min. I walked out of the store completely set with a beautiful, versatile outfit that I can wear many times more. Joyce has, "the stuff," that all customer service reps should have. She was extremely patient, but professional at all times. I am very lucky to have found Joyce right in my time of need. She is a top-notch asset to Talbots, & deserves to be highly acknowledged! Because of Joyce, I will return to this store again & again. She is a 5-Star employee!
I have been a loyal Talbots customer for years. They have great quality merchandise. So why only 2 Stars? It is offensive that they must think consumers don't realize they inflate their prices and then offer 50 to 40 % off! For example, an original price of $199 is now offered at $219. Yes they offer % off but it results in a differences of a few dollars.
Answer: China, where everything else is made these days. I don't think many, if any, of their products are made in the USA.
Answer: They are sneaky. Waited over a month for a jacket, returned it and a month later I asked where is my credit. They said they received and put a credit in my account (not what I wanted as I purchased jacket elsewhere) but never notified me they received and I have a credit. In other words, they just keep unsuspecting customers' money and never tell you. I will never shop there again (except to use my credit if I can't get them to credit my card hahaha)
Answer: I have never had an issue with exchanges. I have never requested a refund.
Answer: The quality of the clothes going back about 10-15 years ago was EXCELLENT. I still have shorts purchased then but they are now showing their age. Purchased similar over the last get years and while they are still $60 the quality is on par with perhaps Walmart
Answer: They are easy to reach and cooperative. They are responsive to customer's needs
Answer: They are a legitimate company and have been in business for many years
