I am not one to usually bother with bad reviews, but I originally requested a Material World packet on July 23 and just received an offer for my items on October 3! Furthermore, I had a brand new YSL tote which retails for $1100 (it was too small for my laptop) among the items and they offered me $90 for it. Now I have to pay shipping to get the items back. I called to see if this was typical and their own customer service gal recommended Poshmark instead!
I sent in items to trade in 2 months ago. Literally had to ask them every week where my offer was and they just kept pushing me out. I had a barely used Ferragamo bag that I could have sold on eBay or elsewhere in those 2 months. They only got to my offer because my husband tweeted the CEO and company saying we had been waiting 2 months. Then the next day they emailed me saying I would have N offer by the end of the day. I had one the next day. The offered me $12 for my bag. I mean really 12! These people are just jerks. Plus if you look up those address it's listed as a furniture store. I think the whole thing is a scam.
Literally the worst of the subscription boxes. I've tried numerous services and have always been satisfied with the clothing. Material World is quite the opposite. I received clothes that was completely the wrong size (I went back and verified that I had entered the correct information on my profile, I had. The stylist just put clothes that were the wrong size in the box.) and that were completely out of season. I reached out for support several times before I actually heard anything back from them. Overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience - from the clothes to the customer service, overall it's just bad.
Material Box is such a great service for me! I'm a stay at home mom so I love having someone pick out my clothes for me and just send it to my home. I use other subscription services too and I honestly don't even think I would shop any other way
I've sent this company two shipments and was pleased overall with the results. Be familiar with the resale world so that you won't be too disappointed with their offer. Most of my designer items were purchased from resale store for next to nothing so I've basically been able to make 4x what I've spent.
My stylist is doing a good job (it's really hard to figure out someone's style!) but I'm open if someone else wants to. I think it would be helpful to have a place where the customer can upload pictures of favorite things in their closet so the stylist can get a visual sense of their style.
-5 star if i could -- i just dont get it, does anyone read my style profile? I had heard bad reviews about this before but i decided to try it because i did not have the time to go shopping but definitely do not recommend. I was sent a preview of items and was so eager to see but sadly they were all for the winter when I live in Texas and its over 100 degrees, no thanks! I understand its all preowned items but maybe they should make it a priority to have relative items available for the stylists to use. I even contacted the CEO, her email is accessible via linkedin, expressing how unhappy I was but never heard back from her. This company is a fraud. Do not use.

I tried my first box and I liked it. I didn't love everything but for the most part I felt like it matched my style. I bought one thing. A kate spade top that was like $30 after the styling fee I already paid. I'm gonna try it again!
Just did my first trade in. I needed to sell my clothes and wanted to make some extra cash. I used one of their free labels and sent my stuff. I thought it might take awhile to get paid for my items but it only took a couple of days so that was good and i got my money through my paypal so i liked that! I'll use it again when i need some extra money
I live kinda far from any good shopping so when I heard about this company I was excited to get designer clothing at cheap prices (especially since there's no good shopping where I live). I think it's easy to use and it's great to be able to shop the brands I like without having to go to a mall or anything. I like that it just gets delivered to me and then I just keep what I want
Cancelled it and they refused to refund the "styling fee" which consisted of what looked like randomly selecting things that aren't selling from their ebay shop.
Issued a chargeback with Chase and took care of it.
Use trunk club or stitch fix instead - this company is horribly run
Paid the styling fee then changed my mind so emailed them within the hour asking to cancel, then they didn't get back for a few days and said it's too late to cancel and I'm getting my box regardless. Box comes in and it's very old clothing that I would never wear so I packed it all back up and took it to USPS. Then got an email a few days later saying I'm being charged for everything since they haven't been notified by FedEx that it's been sent back. So upset that I signed up
I like the idea you can sell stuff with your material box returns. I started sending in stuff with things I wasn't keeping from my Box which was really easy and I got shopping credit for my next Box. One of the offers was low for this theory top I had, it was like $10 when I paid over $100 but at the same time it was better than just donating it or having it just sit in my closet
I sent 5 items to try out the service. I sent a $600 Burberry skirt. They offered me $10. My Valentino dress they said they couldn't authenticate it. Huh? They don't accept Dolce & Gabbana, nor Escada, nor Longchamp. Never again!
Hi it's my opinion that this company operates as a scam. At least this is what it feels like to me. Do NOT use them. They have charged me for a box that never arrived, in which they are documented saying that I wouldn't be. I was charged for all of the items in full, today. Literally the subject header of my last email with them was, "you will not be charged". This is the second time they have charged me for things that are not in my possession. The first time, they almost didn't refund me until I threatened to report them! I have reported them to my bank as fraud as well as to the Better Business Bureau. Do NOT use them! After looking at Sitejabber, comments on here and on the BBB site, it looks like my opinions are not unfounded, and I'm not alone.
I feel like box works great for me and haven't had any issues. It's easy, all I have to do is get my box and just ship back what I don't really like. Plus everything is at really good prices. For my lifestyle and budget it works!
Hi. Just tried this out because my friend suggested doing it. She's sold clothes to them before so I figured I would try too. I sent in 20 items of clothes and shoes I wasn't really pulling out of my closet to wear anymore. My offer came really fast in only 2 days and was a pretty decent amount. I wasn't sure what to expect because its my first time selling my clothes but I was happy to get money for my items
I was so excited about my box, which should be here tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'm just going to send it right back because F these people. I haven't received my first box yet and yet my account was charged $200. I sent an email but they haven't responded. WTH, how do I get my money back!? I'm so confused. My grandmother just passed away, I have to leave for work in 20 min, and now I have to deal with this. THANKS material world for LITERALLY NOTHING. They stole my money.
Don't do it. Dear god dont do it. This company is unreachable (no phone number and hardly responds to emails). They hold you and your credit card hostage. You can not cancel online. You email them ten times to cancel and when they finally respond they tell you that you have cancelled... then continue to send you items and charge you. I have been dealing with this nightmare for months. SHUT THIS BUSINESS DOWN!
Answer: File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I just did.
Answer: They accepted brands that no one else accepted. However, they are very slow and unresponsive. Bad customer service.
Answer: They received my box end of August. It is now 10/9 and still no offer. Called and they said they are running behind. Wish I never sent anything in.
Answer: REAL REAL - MUCH BETTER! It's consignment which begins at 50% but increases with price and usage.
