We stumbled across StudentUniverse when booking our flights to Morocco for early this year, 2024. StudentUniverse did a very good job and we were pleased with their service. However, StudentUniverse partners with a company called Blue Ribbon Bags. Blue Ribbon Bags has a horrible reputation, reviews, lawsuits and 23+ complaints with the New York BBB site. They charged us $40 for our checked bag and provide a service of tracking and facilitating the return of your bag in the event it does not arrive at your final destination. Unfortunately, our bag did not arrive at the final destination. Our airline is doing everything they can to locate the bag. When notifying Blue Blue Ribbon Bags, they indicated they have 96 hours to locate and help facilitate the retrieval of the bag. A couple days later, well before the 96 hours, they indicated that the bag was tracked to our final destination. According to the airlines, the bag never arrived at our final destination, and as of today it still has not been found. After expressing my concerns to Blue Ribbon Bags and sending them documentation from the airline that our bag has not been found, they stopped communicating with me and closed our case. Blue Ribbon Bags guarantees that if your checked bag does not arrive at its final destination they will pay you $1000 per bag. I'm surprised that StudentUniverse would partner with a company who has such a horrible reputation. I'm not sure if I will ever use StudentUniverse again. Choose your partners wisely!

NEVER USE Student Universe! I purchased a trip with travel insurance, canceled my trip in advance due to heavy flu, and contacted Student Universe and the insurance company for a refund. Go through a hard and complex process to file a claim, but they refused to refund me one month later.
I received my booking confirmation a few minutes after I booked my tickets.

We thought this site was great, love student pricing and all. BUT when a problem comes up, it is clear that you are on your own and this company will not resolve it or is only going to resolve it for a list of fees - cute trick. The issue that occurred at the airport that caused the missed flight was resolved over the phone with the airline and they gave a green light to rebook at no cost (thank you KLM, you're the best), but the third party agency needed to call in, seems like a simple step… That was 9 hours ago. Divanni, who is 18 years old, was stranded for 11 hours in the airport waiting for 'an email' that has still never came, though updates were promised. There were two flights today that he could have been rebooked on. NO COMMUNICATION FROM SU. This is shockingly bad customer service, because flight cancellations and changes are obviously urgent situations, and airlines typically resolve it as quickly as possible. Student universe seems perfectly fine with stranding students, young adults, in precarious situations and trying to get more fees out of a desparate situation. We called at least five times because there were no emails or return calls. Called again this evening, and immediately after we see that the reservation has been deactivated and cannot be opened. Interesting. We are keeping documentation of all of this, and will work with KLM to report this to consumer protection authorities. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! THEY WILL ABANDON YOU WHEN ANYTHING GOES WRONG EVEN IF IT IS EASILY REPAIRABLE.
Hi Eva, sorry that this happened. We reviewed all the recordings and did follow the airline's guidance accordingly. It started with some baggage issue at the airport, which caused the passenger fail to check the bag and board the plane before the gate closed. The passenger was tagged as no-show by the airline. After being informed, our customer service reached out to the airline and was advised of rebooking per fare rules. Hi Kathy, sorry you felt that way. We saw you canceled the booking, a non-refundable ticket, on the airline's website, but if you would like a refund, you needed to submit a request to the airline. If you were declined by the airline, you could still file a claim to the insurance company with documents submitted. We suggest you contact the insurance company again if your request was declined by them. However, even if the airline and the insurance company turned you down, StudentUniverse would still love to assist you with such request. We could submit a refund request to the airline due to medical reason with your supported documents. There's no guarantee that you will receive a full refund, as it is the airline that determines whether your case is accepted or not.
