I've been a loyal Steam user for over 10 years, but my recent experience with their support team has been beyond frustrating. My credit card, which I've successfully used on Steam and other platforms for years, was suddenly restricted without any prior notification. When I reached out to their support, they claimed the restriction was due to potential disputes or unauthorized activity.
To confirm, I contacted my bank, and they assured me there were no issues on their end. This clearly indicates the problem is with Steam, yet when I explained this to their support team, I was met with indifference.
Instead of addressing the issue, they provided me with completely impractical solutions:
Use retail stores or online shops to buy Steam cards – My country isn't even listed in their supported stores, leaving me vulnerable to potential scams.
Use a different payment method – I've repeatedly explained that I only have one payment method, and I'm not going to incur extra costs to get a new card just for Steam. When I asked if Steam would cover these costs, they ignored the question entirely.
To make matters worse:
They've closed 3 of my tickets with an automated response.
I've requested to escalate the issue to a supervisor more than three times, yet I've been completely ignored.
It's clear their main goal is to get rid of customers quickly to maintain their support statistics, rather than actually resolving issues. Steam's lack of accountability, unhelpful responses, and poor customer care have completely eroded my trust in the platform.
If you're considering using Steam, be aware that if you encounter a payment issue, you'll be left to deal with it on your own without proper support. Extremely disappointing from such a major company.
Feel free to check the attached tickets where I keep getting same automated messages without any proper solutions.
Steam offers no way to reach someone to correspond with customer service. Something you should be aware of before purchasing products through them. Per my attached photo, there was a reply from Valve, however, I was at Steam's online help page when I sent my request for help. I sent the request two different times on Steam's home page, only to get the same empty reply back. A week went by, no replies from anyone at Steam.
An amazing website with lots of great games. Even if you don't have enough/any money to pay for games, there are still plenty of good free games or demos for free games. As I said in the title of this review, Steam has many terrible reviews on lots of other websites. But, all of those reviews are written by people who either have never played a video game in their lives, or are trying to play PC games on their phones.
But I don't just mean the reviews FOR steam itself. The reviews of games on Steam are always written by people who just can't play the game, so they rage quit and write a bad, usually one star review.
Steam always have BETA games on their launcher that never make it to release. So you purchase a game that is in development and it shut downs in 30 days. You just wasted your money. Steam does not refund you the money back because you pass a hourly threshold of gameplay.
Do not bother with Steam or any games on Steam. If a game developer uses both a standalone launcher and Steam, go with their standalone. You will save yourself from getting headaches trying to get into the game.
The site is misleadingly titled SteamGames.com, implying a connection to SteamPowered.com (which is famous for the Steam launcher), and this page does redirect to that page, but they are not actually the same thing.
SteamGames.com is a fraud which steals money from random cards. It stole $50 from my mother.
SteamPowered.com is a game store & library. It is where I bought Skyrim.
Woke up this morning to 4 charges of $105.99 with one of the charges credited back! My Steam acct does not have any of my bank info so no idea how my credentials got stolen. I have never even used it! Now I have to wait until my bank refunds me and I also have to wait for my new debit card in the mail since now my bank no longer issues temporary cards. Going to check into the connection that someone here suggested between having an Experian recently opened and this breach of my account.
If you buy pc games, then you know steam is the premier place to purchase. They have the best selection of games, and they have some of the best prices on the internet, especially during a sale. It doesn't have the best user experience but it is simple enough to use.
Steam is a gaming platform that has my full endorsement. I'd be perfectly fine if it monopolized the market lol. The availability of all games, region-specific pricing, excellent design, cross-platform compatibility, and a range of exciting features like their gamepad and sponsored events like "The International" are all pluses. In short, there are no downsides to mention. A solid 5/5 rating from me!
I'm logged in already, so obviously I know my username and password. I go to purchase a game and after I've paid for it, it asks for username and password again so I can download it. It then says my login credentials aren't valid (I'm already logged in). Customer support is a robotic farce. NO support whatsoever. Stay away. After 6 attempts of resolving the problem, I deleted it. Absolutely no consideration for the end customer's experience.
It is one of the best websites for gaming on pc/laptop. It has a lot of games on it and is super easy to use. I used games from steam to start a YouTube channel. All the games on it are super fun to play and I enjoy to use it.
You MUST use the client to access your games. I've seen many Linux (I have Ubuntu 22.04) reviewers state lack of client viability, and my own experience will verify that. Granted, there are so many configurations for computers, it is difficult to know all possibilities of issues. After 3 days of no access to the game I bought through my browser, I asked for and received a refund, and REQUESTED termination of my account. I will NEVER go to steampowered.com while I DON't need a client on GOG.com to download a game into my computer.
I've been a user of steam for over 10 years and during this whole time I have never had a complaint with them. They have great refund policies, platform features and prices. In all honesty if I was rich I would donate money to steam for how much they have done for the PC platform, making it an option for people like me to finally leave console. THANK YOU GABEN!
I have never been on this website before until my debit card was charged $893.49. This company is committing a crime and should be held accountable. I am still trying to get the money back from my bank. Why are they allowed to keep putting fraudulent charges on people's credit cards & no one is going after them.
Great website, it offers to purchase a lot of games, the payment is usually done smoothly and quickly without any problems, however the prices are not always the best. Sometimes you can find the same game cheaper in other gaming sites.
I bought as game from Steam and it has a known bug. They seemed to take pleasure in trying to keep my money. Support is immature. Beware. There are much safer alternatives.
Checked my bank account this morning to find a charge of $100 from steamgames.com. Luckily my bank caught it and refunded the charges, but I have no idea how they got my information in the first place. I've never visited that site at all.
Why do you scam money from people's personal accounts? I have never had any transactions with your company yet you hack into my account and help yourselves. Karma will take care of you and it won't be pretty. You will make national headlines with the Feds rightfully taking everything you got. Even your published phone number is a joke.
This company is a front for credit card fraud. Check your accounts. Notice that there's issues going as far back as March 2009. How does the government allow such fraud to continue? Oh yeah it's a business with connections to MICROSOFT. Figures that big corporations get away with it. Steamgames.com needs to be shutdown immediately.
Large margin of pc games piracy in the western countries has been conquered because of Steam. That alone is worth 5/5
Obviously it has a huge catalogue, big community, addictive features. With pc gaming you can never be 100 % sure if the game in question works on your computer. Buying the game through Steam instead of buying a dvd from a shop or a download from some quirky developers website makes it a lot more probable.
Steam sometimes rarely has some problems connecting online, but I've always managed to play the games offline when that occurs.
I've heard that the customer service is not great but you know what. I own over 100 games and i've never needed it. With game and controller problems you can usually turn to community and get the answers there.
Today I received email notice by Capitol One stating that this company attempted to charged my card. I never even heard of this company. I googled them and just found all of these postings of fraudulent claims so I'm now adding mine. Someone should put them out of business and file charges on whoever has access to using other people's credit profiles.
Answer: I have been using steam for 5 years and it is a very smooth expirience
Answer: I think you bank account or card info got leaked online and someone used it to buy the games
Answer: Just stole $500 from me.
