I placed my order on November 5,2020. I received nothing in the mail so on December 5,202, I called and was told it was a cliche in the system... interestingly the cliche didn't impact you collecting the money. He said you will receive it in the next few days. Still nothing so I called today and more excuses - I have requested a refund - I'll see if I have file a fraud claim with credit card company if they fail to return my money in a timely manner.
Very disappointed to learn... too late... that the ONLY CD size they have is 30 mins. They put one 45-minute lecture on 2 CDs... Ridiculous. I sent a letter to Nick Macco, the owner/president and received a reply back how happy they all were to hear how pleased I was with Southtree! Even tho' I gave them a list of the titles for the CDs (at their suggestion), they ignored it.
In their favor, the $5 fee was great and I received the CDs back in only 10 days, so my overall rating is 2 stars.
I discovered that some camera shops do the same service... and some will negotiate the price if you have multiple tapes.
Why do I say that? I asked them to turn 31 music cassettes into digital. They did. But what they sent back was incredibly poorly handled. What I got back was 62 WAV files listed as:
*******-01A-000. Wav
*******-01B-000. Wav
*******-02A-000. Wav
*******-02B-000. Wav
*******-03A-000. Wav... and so forth.
There was NO OTHER information provided as to WHICH files came from WHICH tape. I can assume that "01A" and "01B" and so forth are from the same tape. But no other information is provided to link "wav" to tape. I may have to find some other group to who do this without leaving the customer getting an un-organized pile of dung. This bunch is simply not worth either the money I put in or the difficult time I'll have to do to figure out what the f*** each file has.
I had several Hi 8 tapes with no way of viewing them and no way of transposing them onto digital media or DVD. I discovered Southtree via Groupon. They were much less expensive than a few other companies that provide the same service. So I sent my tapes in and in about half the time they advertised, my project was complete. I got all my originals back safe and sound along with digital copies which I can now store/manipulate on my computer. I really liked the realtime updates throughout the process. I confidently recommend Southtree.
I have used Southtree twice now and have been happy with work they do in preserving memories on dvds. I have also recommended my mother-in-law to send her stuff there and she is happy with hers also. I love the fact they keep you in the loop thru emails from time they receive them till they send them back to me. And they cost less than the other sites and they have sales. So does Groupon
As in Barbra Streisand album... forever on my mind. Thanks to the efficiency of Southtree I now can see family pictures right now all the way back to 1960's. I'm anxious to send some very old pictures. I trust this company completely with my treasures. The quality is just as great as the prices. Thank you Southtree.
Sent about 20 years worth of tapes (various formats) to Southtree earlier this year and though it took several months we are very pleased with the results. We ordered the USB sticks (in addition to online access) and that's made it even easier. Currently catalouging files by year and will be sharing with all the family! Thanks.
Words can't express how happy I am with the items I received. I had 3M audio reels transferred over to CD's. I'm able to hear my dads voice again. This is absolutely the best gift anyone could receive.
Southtree is amazing! They kept me posted every step of the way about my precious tapes they were converting from VCR to DVD. They truly care about our precious items. My order was not right. They said send it back and I said not if it takes 6 weeks again. 2 of the movies had an hour of footage but they only put 5 minutes on the DVDs. Will not use them again. The tapes were old but better to look at than the DVDs that were very scratchy.
Two recent orders to Southtree each had over five hours of 8mm and hours of compact VHS tapes now very compactly returned on two thumb drives... that were easily shared with family and friends on my own cloud locations. Great service at a total cost to me far less than buying equipment to do this and spending numerous hours of my time.
Was hesitant to ship all my unreplaceable VHS tapes but knew would have to have converted to DVD. Southtree was in touch via email from the day they received them. Kept us in the loop all the way thru the process. We got the DVD's back sooner than expected. Great job. Would recommend them to anyone in need of this type of service. Getting more VHS stuff together to send off. You won't regret using their services.

Easy shipping and all was good but took forever to get done.ive watched a dozen of the discs so far and many are repeats of others. Dont know why.ive been looking for certain cds but so far havent seen what i sent them to be recorded.im hoping they did all i sent them as im half way thru these but why so many cds all the same so far.
I'm so happy with Southtree's service of converting my treasured VHS library to DVDs and flash drive. They communicated with me every step of the way and they delivered exactly as promised. It's a relief to have this taken care of and to know our memories are safely preserved!
It took 6 months to receive my items back, but I was in the middle of a move so that was okay to wait. My VHS tapes were in poor condition, so my DVD recordings aren't great. DVD and thumb drives are much smaller to store, and the quality will not continue to deteriorate. My product did come back to me in a double box, so that was great. I continued to get emails from Southtree giving me updates on the materials. I am happy I didn't want my items back for any occasion. Six months is a long time, but it all worked out.
The conversion from analog to digital is good. Since I no longer have a camcorder I am able to view my home movies on my computer. I had everything put on a USB thumb drive so I could transfer to my computer and edit the recordings. They did a nice job considering the age of these Hi8 tapes.
The only setback is how long it takes to get them back. If you need them back faster there is a charge for that. Expensive. Otherwise everything was good.
I've been trying to get my family's 8mm movies converted for some time now. My dad had amassed some 30 containers of (12) 200-400 foot reels so I knew it would not be inexpensive to take care of this. Finding Southtree and sending some samples allowed me to see an end to this tunnel. Some of the movies we really did not care about anymore. Others, like mine and my sisters birthdays and family gatherings are quite nice to look at again without getting out all the projecting equipment and waiting for the sun to go down to watch them. The colors and quality derived from a small 8mm square is amazing. Granted some of the 1950's movies are a little darker than I would like, but that is an issue with the film, not the conversion. So, we have undertaken this conversion of all important movies and Southtree has some great prices and services to boot. I'm looking forward to getting the balance of the movies we need done by Southtree.

Took over two months to get the box, then after I put my negatives in and send it back, it comes back in less than a month with no thumb drive. I ask why and it's because they won't take negatives out of sleeves for fear of damaging them...
Except that ignores the fact that sleeves are for the express purpose of keeping negatives from sticking together and getting damaged, so being that they're too lazy to take negatives out of the sleeves and put them back in, they want you to send your negatives in a way that risks damaging your negatives but is less work for them.
They're probably hoping the negatives will get damaged so they'll have even less work to do.

Southtree did a great job retrieving and enhancing a 1969 choral concert reel-to-reel recording for me. They handled everything beyond my expectations --- kept me informed of the status of the project throughout the process --- all for a very reasonable cost --- and best of all, the finished recording is better than I had hoped it would be...!
