Forced to purchase ten images (monthly fee giving you 10 downloads) when I was looking for just three images. I unticked the auto-renew button. I later found they were taking further payments from my card. I tried to cancel but was referred to their customer service. Apparently, I was contracted for a year at 12 payments of £24. I was forced to pay a further £20 penalty in addition to the £48 monthly fees to cancel the contract. No sympathy was offered I felt they just ripped me off. Similar images are available from other websites and I suggest you try these first.
The business model they stablished is absolutely against customer right and it's illegal. They take advantage of buzz words and like a scam they convert one month free to annual and after that they charge it if you want cancel the plan. I and few users coordinating a campaign against Shutterstock to protect the user rights. This campaign will accelerate for other brands too that violating users right and misleading customers by context and false promises and manipulation strategies.

AVOID USING Shutterstock at all cost.
Money grab auto renew BS!
I turned off my auto-renew last year and was charged this year for a
A service I did not authorize. They did not want to reverse transaction.
Only way for subscribers to avoid any future charges is to call and delete your Credit Card info from account!
Never ever going to use this company again!
I bought a 4K video that i already owned in HD in order to better my website. Upon downloading i realised there was no difference what's so ever between the two versions or barely... I called them up in order to get a credit so I could buy an other video instead and they were quite understanding of the situation.
I got my credit and the other video I bought is amazing
Really pleased
Their free plans have hidden charges. After the free period the subscription will not end and it will get charged. If you want to cancel they will ask the balance payment with it. Refer the screenshot attached.
Shutterstock contribuitor is totally scam!
$ 0.10 earn for each picture is a exploration of artist!
No customer service, they dont allow to me to close my account, even delete pictures, I can only delete 3 for each day
Don't loose your time, stay out!
Accidentally purchased 4k instead of the needed HD clips, plus a few duplicate clips due to a very sluggish website. Immediately called to correct. After hours of time spent on the phone, they were only able to refund a third of the amount lost. Was pushed around and lied to. Out $559.00 in the end. Not worth anyone's time when there are far better stock sites out there to begin with.
What a joke! I was shocked to see that I had been charged $29 for the last several months and have not utilized this for months. They charge you $29 for 10 photos which is a joke as well... and then say you need to pay $60 for early cancelation! They should be ashamed of themselves! I will cancel every card they aren't getting another dime from me!
I had a family emergency that prevented me downloading our remaining stock on the last days of the month. Shutterstock customer support doesn't care, rules are rules. I know it's ridiculous of me to let something like family in the hospital get in the way of downloading stock. What was I thinking. Adobe Stock, here we come (they let you accrue up to a years worth).
By my own admission, I failed to read the fine print but find the profits harvested from contributions to be absolutely woeful. A platform that manages intellectual/creative content should not be taking 80-90% of sales - I am genuinely disgusted by the business model. Furthermore, I believe Shutterstock to be founded, and driven by a photographer.
My best advice: do not be lured into submitting content to receive as little as. 10c per sale - it is near robbery, and could not be less supportive of the contributors that the platform feasts on.
This is a bad company with bad customer service. The really good content is limited, and there are MUCH better sites out there that won't lock you in even after you are unsatisfied. Please don't make my mistake! There is a penalty fee if you try to cancel.
I signed up for a one-month free trial. On the site they say that it is $29 per month after the free month. I was charged $29 after only 27 days and found out that they automatically sign users up for a year-long contract with a cancellation fee.
I've used dozens of SaaS services over the years and have never experienced such unethical practices. They refused to refund my money.
So I noticed a withdrawal from my account call inform them I didn't know what this was for. They said we will get back to you within 48 hours. Had to call them back 72 hours still no reply. Now they tell me another 48hr. But business want their money now.
I signed up for the free trial then quickly found out that there's no way to manually cancel your subscription. You have to email customer support who is largely unresponsive. I ended up getting charged the monthly fee then got told that I would need to pay another $20 to cancel. I told them I would not pay that amount so they told me that "tier 2 customer support would be contacting me shortly, but they never did. A month later I got charged another monthly fee. I asked them to please remove my card information from their records and they told me they'd get back to me shortly, just like they said a month ago.
Don't using 10 free download from them, you will can't cancel it. Your account will be set up with the auto renew feature. I've had it with SS and will be moving my business over to stock adobe or 123rf or using tools getallstock.com for get cheap all stock photo you want with no any hidden fee.
I just canceled my Shutterstock subscription. Their customer support said I had to pay a $60 fee to cover the monthly savings from the plan! Feeling very ripped off by Shutterstock. Have used them in the past, never will again.
I paid a subscription cancellation fee... wtf?
Just as I thought it was over and done with they have continued to charge my credit card 3 months later.
You can't contact them as it just returns errors, chat is closed down.
Looks like a charge back from my bank is the next step and will send them a cease and desist as they are billing me illegally
This website is definitely not professional. If you want quality images or videos this is not the site for you. Also, when you cancel a subscription the cancellation fees are astronomical. I cancelled a subscription today and they charged me $880 cancellation fee! Utterly ridiculous and not as professional as I had hoped. As CEO of a music company we were hoping for something better. Spread the word!
I too was charged for a yearly subscription which I had not ordered! I called in and they told me someone hacked my profile and charged the yearly subscription? Now I am trying to delete may account... you have to do it by phone... 5 calls so far have gone unanswered... I can't delete my account! Horrible!
Good luck with your photos ever being approved. Remember the people reviewing you photo makes money by the photos they review. So if they keep declining then the more money they will make.
I have to keep posting the same photo over and over until I get someone that will approve it.
Stay away.
Over 50 photos and not one approved. Top quality very very nice photos. Not one has been accepted and everyday I resubmit.
What's a joke. If I could shut this scamming $#*! site down I would. I'm also filling out a BBB report right now.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
