They charged my credit card for over a year, I never saw any receipts even on my profile. When I asked them about my charges, the charges showed up on my profile. I got trapped into a one month free promo. They charged me $30 a month since. They would not charge back!
I think they are a Terrible company
If I could give it a zero I would. It's a scam, once you sign up for a "free trail" they renew your subscription even AFTER you canceled. $150 later and I'm still getting charged. PayPal has been notified.
The annual subscription is something to avoid. I used the service for a day and forgot about it... get 3 charges. Then when I contact support they make it seem like they're doing me a service by canceling my annual subscription to waive a $80 FEE! HA! Most companies would refund at least two months. But not Shutterstock. They won't be getting me as a customer again
This may be useless since they have a reading of 1.3 LOL but they offer a free month trial but if you don't cancel before the end of the month they charge you the difference between the annual fee which you automatically are signed up for and the monthly fee. So after nine months I canceled and was charged almost $200 to do so.
Absolutely horrible experience!
They are real thieves!

I could not imagine that there are still such irresponsible companies today. I wonder why Google does not show well about Shutterstock's terrible service. Then there would not be so many frustrated clients.
I canceled my account but they kept charging me. By the time I caught it 3 months had passed and they said the only way to cancel (again) was to pay more money (the $20 monthly difference between their yearly subscription and monthly subscription). I felt like I got caught up in a scam. Very disappointed in customer support at Shutterstock. They are not in the business of helping customers but for finding sneaky ways to take your money. Buyers beware.
I thought I was signing up for a trail and accidentally signed up for an annual monthly subscription. When I contacted Customer Service to let them know, they told me that I had to pay $60 to cancel, even though I had missed my downloads for a month and had only used on month of downloads. The only reason I even knew I had an account was that I went into the details of my credit card statement. I wonder how many people have subscriptions and are paying for nothing. They definitely know how to make money. Will be looking for more civilized alternatives in the future.
#boycott_Shutterstock Shutterstock pays authors 10 cents for their work, imagination, time, eyesight, amortization of equipment and electricity. Do this during a pandemic. This is disgusting
They write on their blog about pandemic support, care and respect. But the reality is 4 times reduction in payment to contributors. Shame on Shutterstock.
I was billed of 29$ 5 days before the free trial ends, i immediately tried to cancel my annual subscription and emailed and chat customer support, i thought i was also one of the victims but to my suprised the agent immediately processed the cancellation and even requested the refund of 29$ which was billed to me.
I'm certain i turned off auto renew last year as i always look for that! Yet a year later i find over £38 on my card statement! I think they turn it back on again! Plus, they've charged me more than the 'advertised package prices' as they have gone down by £3! That has really annoyed me! My advice: delete your card details as soon as you've bought the package... or use IStock!
I contacted Shutterstock about cancelling the annual membership that I was mistakenly signed up for. They would not let me cancel without paying an absurd fee. My two options were 1) pay an absurd fee now and cancel or 2) pay significantly more money in the upcoming 10 months. I cancelled paying a fee, but I will never go back to Shutterstock. I am now aware that a large number of customers are scammed the same way. What a disgrace.
First of all, my customer service representative just repeated the same information that was of no use to me. They don't really listen to your problem, they just state facts to you that may or may not be of use to what you're trying to resolve by contacting them. In my case, the video I was downloading had corrupt codec, and the agent kept telling me the same thing over and over again about redownloading when I had already told her I'd done so. I got tired of reiterating myself and will figure out my own solution.
Did not use them for 5 months and they charged my card $99 for the plan, when called in to cancel the plan they said there is a $26 cancellation fee! After paying for 5 months with out downloading even one image you are still charging me a fee
Won't approve any photos on quotes that are imprinted in the concrete. Won't approve photos of just body of water, says it's not clear enough. Very picky and misleading on what they want. Uploaded 15 pics, none approved for non related reasons.
I am afraid these guys are thieves - as below their automatic renewal system magically turns back on and they pound your account for money until available - they took funds reserved for my travel back home and left me stranded in a foreign country - do not use these guys. I am reporting to ombusdman
Their offer of 10 images -month- annual plan 29$ is actually a trick in the wording! It's annual commitment for 29$ every month! To cancel they charged me what they call savings I have saved so far and charged me 40$ to cancel! What a joke of a company!
The website is extremely inconvenient for using by an android phone while the app doesn't have all the functionality that the website has.
As a contributor my photos do not appear in my portfolio and cannot be shared via the portfolio link. When I addressed the issue via email, I received an automatic reply that the team knows about the issue, but didn't specify time it will be sorted. Photos that are not in the portfolio simply do not appear when you look for photos by keywords in the database.
The review process is as clumsy as the website. Photos get rejected because there are authentic names of railway stations in the station building that are not translated. Photos get rejected because there's ugly graffiti, simply called hooliganism, but deemed intellectual property by shutterstock.
Very disappointing experience.
Super expensive. Crappy picture selection. Horrible policies. Rude robotic customer service. When you sign up for a subscription model, no other service that I have ever used has charged you to cancel. Other services do this for a reason. They do this in hopes that you leave happy with their service and will come back in the future.
Shutterstock doesn't want you to come back. They want you to leave frustrated, angry and to find a better service. They just don't realise this. Won't ever use them again.
Do NOT go with Shutterstock. I have been paying Shutterstock $31+ per month... only used 3-4 images in the past 3 months. Tried to cancel and was told it would cost me $80 to cancel... then suddenly, when I got mad, he (Afaque) told me that it would cost me $20 to unsubscribe... they would give me "a break" on the cancellation fee. I was unable to get into my account to cancel my credit card. TOTAL SCAM! DO NOT USE. They suck. Stay away from them. They are unscrupulous, Worst site ever!
If you buy from Shutterstock beware that they will charge you the annual subscription even if you don't sign up for it. This currently stands at about £35 British pounds. Do check your bank account for this annual charge.
When I rang them to dispute the transaction, they simply agree to cancel the subscription, which is good but only if you challenged them otherwise, they would quietly take your money annually. It's a scam as far as Iam concerned.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
Answer: Yes once downloaded the images are yours to use forever and they have many plan options, some of wish are one time payments
Answer: On tge website there is not a option to purchase a single image however, if you have an ios or android device you cam download the shutterstock app and purchase the single image of your choice
Answer: Call them but they'll charge you a $40 cancellation fee!
