I thought I was ordering one picture and then found out later I was being charged a monthly subscription charge. When I brought this to customer service they said I could cancel for forty dollars. I have never been scammed like this in my whole life. They should not be allowed to be on the internet.
Before I signed up, I was talking to a representative in "Live Chat". They assured me I could cancel any time. Which is true, but they don't tell you it's $60 to cancel, because they lock you into a 1-year contract. I do NOT remember anything anywhere, telling me I was committed to a year contract. I'm going to the BBB and whoever else might be able to help. Avoid this company like the plague.
Terrible company who do not look after their customers or contributors. Nothing but greedy. Go to Adobe stock or pond5 for better content, customer support and better support of the artists who contribute to them.
While the images are of outstanding quality and the price is competitive, I have rated this company with only 2 stars because of their auto-renewal. I began my monthly subscription on the 21st of June and made a note on my calendar to cancel on July 18th if I decided not to renew. However, before I called on the 18th, I noticed my credit card had already been charged that morning for the renewal. I immediately called and was told they would refund the charge. The next day i received a confirmation email that the refund had been processed but that it could take up to five business days to process the refund. I am extremely disappointed the renewal fee was charged 3 days early resulting in my not having access to necessary credit. As a small business owner, this is quite inconvenient.
I signed up for a 7 day free trial for Shutterstock without being fully aware that by not canceling I would be tied into a monthly fee for a YEAR long subscription. I was extremely disappointed and irritated to find out I would be charged an early termination fee and requesting the cancellation of my subscription due to the lack of content and quality images in my industry. I was told under no circumstance could I cancel without a fine, essentially and because I had utilized a handful of downloads. Not even a third of what I "paid" for I was not eligible for a discount. I feel I was misled and roped into a yearly commitment. Proceed with caution, ensure they have quality content for your needs, which they probably don't, and be aware of their polices regarding this matter.
Remember the old cell phone plans, when you made a change in your plan you were automatically renewed into another contract for 12 months? Thats the same BS they lock you into here.
We went from needing 10 images a month to needing 30-50 images for a few months. NO GOOD OPTIONS. Their pricing model blows and needs to be updated.
The site is a hive of stolen material. If you buy the assets there you have high chance of being stolen from.
Buying stolen designs results in you having NO USAGE RIGHTS at all. They set you up for legal trouble and steal from you.
Their policing of their own platform is slow and reluctant as they have financial incentive in letting their users steal designs and try to sell them.
Scam site.
I have been a longtime Shutterstock customer - and their platform is integral to our marketing and our branding. I am an accomplished photographer and appreciate the quality of the imagery. We are now extremely happy with their video footage - and the way their team handles any customer service issues.
Shutterstock has the worst company service. I signed to buy 10 images - then miraculously' i was on their monthly plan which i never signed up for. After 4 months i realized this asked them to refund the 4 months - they only refunded 3 and asked me to pay' a cancelation fee to get the 4th month back which basically is almost the price of the month. Seriously stupid, short sighted - after 10 years of using them - I'm done
BUYERS BE CAUTIOUS! I wish I could leave 1/2 star! I signed up with Shutterstock and did not read the fine print. There is a penalty for the discounted yearly rate. But having to pay almost $100 to discontinue my service! Essentially if you cancel early they still get their money for the year. It is extremely difficult to cancel the subscription so they can inform you that you will be charged an exorbitant amount to cancel. Trying to hold you hostage to the subscription.
The photo subscription sheet below reads: "To cancel go online to your My Plans page, click 'Cancel plan early' link as associated with your subscription and then click the ' Confirm cancellation' button to complete your cancellation. THIS IS NOT TRUE!
I signed up for a "free" trial while my adobe cc account was put on hold. I downloaded few images, then cancelled the plan.
One month later I see that I am still being charged for their services. I login into my account and I see that it wasn't actually cancelled and it carried on into an annual contract!
I try to cancel it again through their website and I can't actually do it without calling them!
Their website is design so that you can't notice small prints during cancellation. I do remember that I clicked cancel the plan but somehow it still was charging me.
This is outrageous, it's like being robbed in a daylight.
These guys are scam artists. Make it incredibly difficult to cancel, will pull out some hidden fees to cancel. Do yourself a favor and STAY FAR AWAY. Ugh, I've had swallow enough damage to my wallet from these crooks.
Their site will make you believe that you can cancel anytime, but NO. You either have to keep renewing your plan or pay the cancelation fee. Their customer service reps are not helpful at all, I feel like they are trained to sam people as well. STAY AWAY!
Charged me 300$ even when i don't use it. I can't cancel it on website and can't delete my card. I need to contact them on email. Chat isn't available. It's been a day since I contacted them and they still didn't respond
Tricked into entering a free trial and got charged for the first month. I turned off auto-renewal but only informed by CS that the button is to stop renewing the plan at the end of the annual subscription, not the monthly charge of $29. Cancellation cannot proceed unless you pay $20, which reflects the benefit you receive for the first month of the subscription.
This company have the nerve to charge me a cancellation fee of $40 after I had their product for months paying $29 a month but hardly used it. And wouldn't let me cancel it until I pay the Effen $40. You got some nerve Shutterstock!
I bought some photo's from this company recently. It cost $29 for 2 pics and I was happy to pay it. They are a bit tricky, they put a auto renewal clause in and so they legally, not ethically, charge you twice. Nothing you can do about it. They just scammed you. It is sad when a legit company start pulling tricks like this and they need to be exposed
I signed up intending to use this service for a month or 2 but somehow got converted to an annual subscription which I cannot for some reason cancel. They are charging 140 just to cancel the service. And if I wait the fee jumps by $20 for every month that I have the service. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and never ever sign up to shutterstock every again
Absolute nightmare! I went for the 10 free images a month offer only to be charged. It never stated charges in the subsequent months and it said offer ends in October. They still have the offer and now they are stating its one month free trial and subsequent months are charged £22.08! It says you can cancel at anytime but now they are charging a termination fee to cancel!
Instead of being able to upgrade the amount of photos within my previous plan I had to create a new subscription with the higher amount. Therefore, having to pay a cancellation fee on my previous subscription. This is extremely shady and will no longer be using them once my subscription is over.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
Answer: Yes once downloaded the images are yours to use forever and they have many plan options, some of wish are one time payments
Answer: On tge website there is not a option to purchase a single image however, if you have an ios or android device you cam download the shutterstock app and purchase the single image of your choice
Answer: Call them but they'll charge you a $40 cancellation fee!
