I consider this company to be a scam. I purchased something on BedBath&Beyond, and got a notice on their site saying I'm entitled to $10 off of that purchase. When you click on this offer your directed to this Shop Smater site. It's not until I got right to the end of the offer did I notice this was a paid subscription service and that it would cost $9.95 a month for something I have no clue what I was signing up for. I think BBB should remove this from their site, as I will no longer shop on their website because of this trickery.
Never knowingly signed up for any ShopSmarter.com services, was charged $1.97 on 10/24, and shortly after that they tried to charge $9.97 but Capital One flagged it as suspicious, so I had a new card issued, and that one already has a pending charge for $9.97 BEFORE IT WAS EVEN ACTIVATED. This isnt right.

Previously I wrote about "SHOPSMARTER" not fulfilling their membership obligations. In hindsight, I wish i had given shopsmarter the benefit of the doubt and waited a bit longer. What first set me into a negative mindset was the 2 monthly payments the same month for member fee's. Before the fee charges happened, I was shopping for item's through the links associated with shopsmarter. I followed detailed information on submitting my receipts for the 10% cash back rebates. This was about 1-2 month's into the membership and I was starting to stir about no response. Well after reading some other reviews, mostly negative emails. Well that's when the nasty and defensive postings started. Don't you know the next day or two, my money from the extra fee was refunded to my account and the rebate checks for all the submitted receipts were in my mailbox. I had jumped the gun. There we're only 2 days in between when I had started the assault. For that reason, I sincerely apologize to the shopsmarter organization. My advice to you who are thinking that you have been beat, give them a couple of months to get and process the information you provide to get the financial results you were promised. They'll be on the way. Just chill!

When pop up happens, I normally don't go for it... but this time I did... I was a little fishy ESPECIALLY when they asked for my credit card, but the process they were asking was easy. It wasn't until I got the confirmation/ welcome email that I realized there was a fee, honestly, that was not what bothered me. I check the reviews and they were not good. I canceled my membership right away, again, not because of the fee, it was because I am not a frequent online shopper. If I was, maybe I would see the value in it. Plus if you think about it, its alot of work to put the rebate in... so as long as you are okay with that, it' not that bad, just not worth it to me.

I work for Cherokee County First's, I was charged a membership fee I'm in need of a receipt but you tell me that you don't do receipts off which I think is very stupid because we can't us the Bank Statement, I can't get anyone to help me not even upper management I think it's very unprofessional, I'm sure that we're not the only one that may need a receipt. It would be nice if someone would take the time to help me with this problem.

Hope you realize that you actually complained that you had to wait so long for the $10. I personally found the reviews helpful. They make it sound so good to the consumers who often do not READ THE FINE PRINT. One more reason that all complaints can come in handy!

Their offer popped up when I was making a purchase at Bed bath and beyond. It was I could pay $1.97 trial and then $9.97 after that. I'd get a $10 WELCOME BONUS and 10% cash back on my purchase. Well, I finally got the $10 Welcome Bonus. When I called and asked where my $30 check was from my purchase, they said the first purchase is only eligible for the welcome bonus. Wait, What?!? I asked where it says that. We spend 15 minutes on the phone looking for that information. It was nowhere. She then told me that's what she's supposed to tell people when they call. I was livid because it doesn't inform us of this information. I guess once you call looking for your check, you'll be informed about this "policy." BS. Also, my subsequent purchase was not there even though I sent proof of purchase. Then, I went to cancel my membership and she told me no refund because of several stores I shopped at. Those stores were stores I looked at through their site and never bought anything. I had to let her know that. This site is a total scam scam scam. Don't waste your time... it's not worth the money you won't get back.

Shop online and make money, sounds sweet, right? Be careful, when you sign up your membership with Shopsmarter thinking you'd be starting to earn cash back, think twice, it won't be as easy as you may think. They would lock your account and send you a nonsense email from nowhere starting to question your cashback eligibility when you make a large purchase or simply a few same items at one online store, because they would assume you are using their service for business purposes. Yes, that is what they do. Your account will be locked and no cashback will be issued until you can prove yourself not using it for business purposes, but how? How do you prove that you are buying a few identical $500 speakers only to create a surrounding stereo sound for yourself entertainment and not for resell? They do what they want to do to ban you forever from their service after you have made thousands of dollars purchases, now all of a sudden you are banned, and there is no argument with them. Want your membership money back? Be prepared for an argument. Stay away from them.

I recently purchased a stroller/car seat from a known company and saw that I had a $10 cashback refund, I got onto shopsmarter.com where it was NOT made clear that it was a monthly subscription, so when I got onto my credit card account and saw I had two charges - 9.97 and 1.97 I was pretty mad. I know it wasn't made clear because if it was clear that it was a subscription, I would have never put my information in, and especially on a credit card.

Another purchase "not directly connected to ShopSmarter" according to them. I spend more time tracking my purchases and getting bogus responses and weeks of emails then I save in costs. So many inquires I have had to make to get my $$$ back and yes I follow all the rules of starting in a new and only browser, then go to their web site and log in, then shop and purchase and close the browser when its done (showing both windows open). Many times when I make a purchase that's close to 2K I have to call it in later and chase the purchase down and this time I get a very generic response and wont get paid. I'm also well aware they are the same org as freeshipping.com This has been a decent experience "at times" and hated and not worth the time I have to commit to do their job on others. I just lost another $196 and their answer is "Order credited to other publisher or the connection was lost in the process of making your purchase and not directly connected to ShopSmarter" of which of course I have no clue what that means nor can I contest. I have seen complaints online but tried to say those were just people that didn't do it right but now I see that's not true.

Yesterday membership fee is charged and post, Today account disappeared(they put my email and password as invalid). Everything silent, no email, no call and let customer discover himself. WOW, what company is this?!
I contacted the customer service, she told some department will contact me in a few days. So I will wait to see what is going on next But I could guess that it maybe bcz I use the cashback too much so shopsmarter does not want to pay me as it now account has already pending about 800 bucks.
Be aware that if u shop a lot or buy expensive items, do not try to use shopsmarter as it is smarter than u and it can eat your earning as it is the boss. As long as you earn too much maybe hundreds, shopsmarter will keep the cashback for itself which is paid by merchant (is this called stolen? Fraud?) and it bans the customers as diff money-earning tools even customer paid the membership fee. In a word, customer is like a lamb to the slaughter if on the boat 'shopsmarter'.
I will wait for the update, but most likely they will throw an excuse without solving the issue. If so, guys, shall I file a claim so we can get the money belonged to us?
