Ghost & Fake Bidders

I found out that there are "inside bidders" from within Goodwill. I bid on an item and immediately noticed that there was this "ghost" bidder who kept increasing the price of the item, so when the auction had about 2-3 minutes left, I stopped bidding and let that bidder win. To my surprise, the same item came up for auction again two days later...(The rules state you have 7 days to pay...) Really? Coincidence? Bidders beware!

I cannot believe they act like this to customers. I suppose they feel they can defraud and steal from customers because they are a charity.

Do not sign up for this website or purchase thing from it. There is no ethical standards being enforced by the corporate headquarters and each store pretty much acts like it own individual seller playing by its own rules. Many are damn near sociopathic con artists.

I am going to share my story here.
I have been made over 6000 dollars purchases on this website and always have a feeling that they secretly raised the price for bidding. Until one day my account was locked for no reason and I filed a claim with no response. Then someone called me with all my previous purchase information saying they are from goodwill orange county. It turned out to be a completely fraud with no outcomes. But no one should know my previous purchase history except for them! Of course they said they never done that...
Be careful, they played as bidder and raised the price is not a secret but even more, they sell your information!

Gone downhill

I used to look forward to shopping at goodwill, but not anymore.
The prices on all the goods they receive free from donations are a complete joke. Obviously I am not the only one to take note. I don't see shoppers leaving with much merchandise. It's gotten to the point you might as well shop retail. Goodwill's prices are awfully close to what you can buy new at most retail stores.
Also, the help at this store is horrendous at restocking. Clothing is so badly sorted and stocked willy nilly.
I'm no longer interested in shopping at Goodwill when I can purchase products that are new at about the same or slightly higher prices.
Also, this store in Olympia, WA. No longer takes furniture donations and their donations is very rarely open, citing low staff.
Just a suggestion, lower the prices and stop gouging your patrons.

Hypocrisy

Employment unwise, they usually hire second chance employees (ex-cons) so they can mistreat them. They only hire desperate people, not qualified individuals who leave soon because of low pay. They don't discriminate against seniors because they rarely hire them. Ask any store what their employee turn-over rate is?

Shoppers, it's just a front for reselling other peoples donated junk at a higher price. A great place to get rid of outdated junk. Still, better deals are at estate sales & garage sales.

Most of the stores operate on the same level. Goodwill hypocrisy is notorious for enriching themselves and not spending the money to help the poor, the disabled, the homeless.

Beware of overcharging in shipping. Items will weigh only 7 ounces but you are charged for 11 pounds in shipping and then are unable to combine items in one shipping charge because everything weights 11 pounds. Yes 11 pounds which puts your combined weight over the 20 pounds limit. What a rip off! Check your shipping charges before bidding! I won't bid on those items anymore. I can get them brand new on eBay separately and still be cheaper than goodwill charges.

Caution is Key

It is possible to find some great bargains, but the shipping/handling costs tend to be so high it's prohibitive unless you're looking for a very expensive item - and don't be misled by the option to combine items for shipping, as this can actually increase the overall costs rather than reducing them.

After payment cleared and waited a week. Reached out to Goodwill Corpus Christi to see if they could update the order with tracking information. The response was rude, at best, the item is shipping out "today" and takes a certain number of days for processing. Turns out, the label was created, but item still has not shipped.

For what it's worth, bought other items from Goodwill of Southern California, and experience was superb. Item was well packed and processed quickly. Item arrived exceed expectations.

Very Shady

All the stores are independent of each other. There is no consistency between stores and they all have their own policies. I have been shopping on here for the past 5 years and most of the stuff comes broken or not as described. I buy big lots though, so I always end up finding something in the piles that Goodwill misses to make up for it. If you are a collector I would stay away, you're better off buying off ebay and letting all the pickers take the risk of buying off of this site. If you try to return the items then the majority of the time they will keep your shipping costs which are usually high. So if you like to gamble it's a great site, as long as you don't mind dealing with a lot of garbage to find a couple of gems. Overall the past year has gotten worse on the site. The quality of the items have gone down while the prices have gone up. I'll be taking my money to local auctions where I can see the stuff before I buy it.

Auctions poor
August 14, 2023

I have been a shopper with goodwill for year and lately they have gotten poor. I detect a lack of concern and disorganization. I keep getting beat on auctions at the last moment and a dollar over my bid. I have purchased items which arrive destroyed and when when I try to address the problems with good will no response. I have an item that I purchased over a month ago still not here and again I'm ignored. Opening bid set by good will is too high. S/h my God need I even mention it. They've lost me as a customer.

Poor Package shipping

I Paid a premium on a Older Toy. Of course Anyone who collect toys or most older items know that condition is a MAJOR factor on price. My item arrived damaged. The item was not packaged well at all which caused the damage in multiple areas on the toy. I contacted the seller at the shop Goodwill location of the auction. They offered me 5% off or Full refund IF... I Sent the item back on my dime. Return Shipping policy needs to be addressed and New package training to all employees.

I purchased a painting off shopgoodwill.com and paid $292.00 for it. They advertised it would be shipped within 5 days & it has now been 11 and it has still not shipped. They refuse to advise me when & if it will. Purchased it as a Christmas gift on 12/5 & expected it to arrive from Tennessee to Florida within 20 days but they did not even try to make good on their word.
E-mailed them to find out why and was told FEDEX wanted too much money to ship it and that is who they use. This makes no sense because it weighs less than 10lbs and I was charged $25 for shipping and handling. On top of this the item was donated & they would make around $270 profit. Getting them to just cancel the order and issue me a refund has been like pulling teeth. Trying now to get PAYPAL involved to cancel the sale and credit my account. It has become a major ordeal and a pain,
I will NEVER donate to Goodwill again or buy from their store. They ripped me off for close to $300 & ruined my Xmas!

Misrepresenting items and will not respond
November 16, 2021

Recently purchased a set of glass paying $333.00 which included S&H. When items arrived, one piece a Fenton bunny had the entire foot broken off and the large vase had been broken and glued back together. None of this was in the description of the items. I have emailed 8 times to both the store and the corporate office with no reply. Having to file a PayPal claim next and will also contact the BBB. Sad they are ripping people off.

Don't donate to goodwill they auction off all the expensive items at shopgoodwill. Com and throw the bad stuff away if it don't sell in the stores, you will see no good items on the shelves! The CEO of goodwill is padding his pockets with your donations, and we are the victims here. It's a scam pyramid.

I just received my third item from ShopGoodwill and like the other two, this one is defective and should never have been put up for sale on a bidding site. It's one thing to sell items like this in a store where the buyer can actually try out the item, but to ship them to unsuspecting bidders is a scam.

The first two items I let slide and didn't request a refund because the defect was kind of obscure but this last one is so obviously defective as to be illegal. The item is essentially useless.

I've learned my lesson and won't purchase anymore from Goodwill.

One last thing, in my research on the non-profit, they are a multi-billion dollar business and the top managers make millions every year in salary all while paying the people doing the grunt work a pittance. This non-profit is a scam.

Oh the Goodwill greed.

Bid on a pair of earrings. Shipping was not noted as read based on location. My fault I made the assumption this was a fair honest process. Paid $8 for earrings and about $10 shipping for MN to AZ. We are talking small ounces for small pair of earrings. Maybe at very high $5. It was a bait and switch as I had no choice after winning bid. I'll post real cost when I receive. Goodwill takes advantage of the people they should be supporting. Greed Greed Greed. Sad!

I consistently see bidding wars on similar items that are 50-80% less on Ebay with Buy it now or best offers! Obviously they have some kind of bots doing their bidding. What a bunch of crooks! Not to mention the ridiculous shipping charges! They should be investigated and stripped of their non-profit status. They are nothing less than a racket!

Broken VCR

I won a VCR on auction and when I plugged it in there was a terrible clicking noise and it ate my tape. Do they even plug items in to make sure they work before putting on the website? If so it would have been obvious that it was broken. Plus you only have 7 days to return an item. Who can do that in the mail system today! Never buy anything from this site. If they sell broken items then your chance of getting a broken item, especially electronics, is great. As a customer you have a reasonable expectation that an item you purchase works. What a total rip off. This is criminal.

I am a reseller and purchased over $2000 worth of products to resell. I have received most my orders and most of their products are either getting returned or trashed. The worst products are their men's suits that they advertise in very good condition but showed up with ten holes in them. Yeah because we all see men walking down the street with ten holes in their suits and say wow look at his nice suit. Or below and Armani jacket listed in excellent condition see photo below. Then you reach out to customer service and no response. I finally just filed fraud charges with one of the credit cards I used and provided my credit card company with e descriptions of the items sold to me and photos of the actual products that arrived. Surprisingly the credit card company took my side and said goodwill is known to have a lot
Of chargebacks on online purchases. Do not waste your money
