The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and shipping practices, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction over exorbitant shipping fees, poor item descriptions, and inadequate packing leading to damaged goods. Many reviews highlight a perceived shift from a community-focused mission to a profit-driven approach, resulting in a loss of customer trust. While some long-time customers appreciate the variety of items available, the overwhelming sentiment reflects frustration with the lack of transparency, responsiveness, and support. This feedback suggests a pressing need for the company to reassess its customer service policies and shipping practices to enhance overall satisfaction.

The site should be shut down - 100% Employee Shill Bidders on popular items - Shipping charges are 3X normal costs - No review system to see how poorly the BUYERS view this awful site. Any type of investigation you'd find plenty to shut this site down. I wouldn't doubt Goodwill has a text chat about ending auctions and driving up prices.
If you win an auction for an item and the item could have sold for a lot more money they WILL refund you and relist that item. It's disgusting. NOT the same goodwill values I grew up knowing and I'm only 32. This problem starts from the top. Corp. Greed is the only thing on their minds.
I have been around since the launch of Shopgoodwill.com. This place is nothing but legal theft! They charge whatever the hell they feel like. I won a purse for $7.99 but the shipping was damn near $19. The BS explanation was that they ship "based on the dimension of the box that it is shipped in." That is nothing but BS and greed on SG's part. They should be shut down for the fake sh!t, false descriptions of items (ALWAYS question the "leather" in their listings), and sheer shi!y customer service (when they decide to respond!)
This auction site is the WORST! They sell all sorts of broken, damaged and completely unusable trash. They get away with it by saying it's 'untested' And no refunds. Why don't they just test things? It would take a few minutes to do and people wouldn't be buying things that belong in the trash. Why? I'll tell ya why. Because they still make a killing off selling trash to people. People who can't afford to be buying these items new so they go to goodwill thinking they 'help people' like they claim to. If they tested things they would have to throw most of their junk away, so instead they pass it along to the less fortunate!
Does not sound like good will to me
It sounds more like a company that takes full advantage of being given all those tens of thousands of items for free! They're given this stuff for free. Yet they are so greedy they won't give refunds when someone buys a broken item from them. Something they received for free!
They're an awful place to buy anything. I'm surprised they haven't been publicly exposed and shamed for the crooks they really are.
Profiting off the very people they falsely claim to help.
If you're buying Electronics you'd be better off going to EBay. Goodwill doesn't guarantee anything to work. They will post an item and say it powers on, and no further testing was done. I purchased a Reciever the bid seemed to be pushed up but I needed a Stereo Receiver and it was a good brand so I bought it. When I got the item it was packed very well. I plugged it in and it powered on. Hooked up a set of speakers and no sound. I thought ok might be something simple. Well the cooling fans weren't running, and the sound processor board looked burnt around one of the processors. Well I informed the seller, and they said All items are sold "AS IS". No refunds. So I have an item that's about as good as a boat anchor to me, and I don't own a boat. And Im out a $110 dollars. Seemed to me that a simple task of hooking up a set of speakers, and testing for sound should be a minimum requirement. They claim they are no experts, but a child could hook up speakers to a stereo. Should be laws against selling items that should have been tested for basic functionality. The BBB should get involved in preventing these charities from ripping off the public.
Ive have good and bad luck with this site. I believe they got employees/friends/family helping to bid up the prices just to make an extra buck. Shipping and handling prices are $#*!ing insane. 15 or more to deliver across 1 state for an item that weighs 3lbs. Seriously wtf. Keep an eye out on items with signatures, not all come with a coa, so you gotta do your own investigation on if you think the signature is legit.
Each goodwill store has its own items, you'll see the same name bidding on items, but they wont bid on something another state away... that tells me there some questionable bids going on.
They allow last second bidders that can steal the item away from you. They need to add time when this happens. Also ive noticed while bidding on certain items listed by a particular goodwill store that the same ppl are bidding on it. Its wouldnt surprise me if its the employees hiking up the price to see how far you'll go in wanting the item.
I bid and won 3 different sewing machines, first one they put one sheet of bubble wrap and you guess what a 40lb vintage machine looked like when it got here, but goodwill refunded my money so I was disappointed but happy. Recently I found two different models, first one I got arrived perfectly packaged and well cushioned (I asked before hand), second one I should've done my research, the reviews on that model were not good...I do think shopgoodwill doesn't describe if item works or not.when it says powers on...don't think it works because I found out why touch and sew sewing machines are called touch and throw. It did not work and I'm pretty good fixing them but in the ad, the pic showed a light on.powers on when I got the machine the bulb inside it was burnt out so either they knowingly misled by just turning it on with a different bulb and saying it powers on...knowing it doesn't work and taking out a working lightbulb or they didn't know if it worked. The machine looks great but it's not. I realize things are as.is. But things should at least be tested to see if they run or not, at least in store you can plug an item in and test yourself. Buy at your own risk but I feel cheated on this machine, after I bid I saw bad reviews...lesson learned. The other machine I got unstuck and seems to be coming along, it looks like this one will work.just do your homework before bidding on an item. I agree with others that said the shipping is too expensive. Goodwill has gone up on their prices alot.used to be more affordable...they are selling used items for goodness sake! I've really cut back on what I purchase there because of the high prices.
Shopping Goodwill online is a really bad idea if you want assurance you get what you pay for. For example, I purchased a vintage ceramic item that showed no wear or damage but when I received the item it was damaged. I spoke with customer service who weakly apologized and said someone was supposed to inform me at pickup that the item was damaged. I had to drive 20 miles to return it and was charged a 25% stocking fee. Who sells damaged goods on purpose, doesn't disclose it, and charges the customer to take it back? Their speil, "thank you for supporting our mission" is how they justify taking your money for nothing. I got nothing but they took my money. Unethical, right? Back in he 19th century they called head of companies with questionable tactics like selling products for over inflated prices selling goods or services that don't really exist Robber Barons. Well my dear shoppers, beware of Goodwill E-commerce. Not only do they sell questionable goods and don't back their products, they also charge an absorbent 25% restocking fees, excessive handling fees, and shipping fees.
It's fun to look at the goodwill on line biding site, but it's not much fun when you are being bid against and then you have to pay an exorbitant shipping fee. I go to goodwill to buy things at a discount. When they first started you could get some great buys, now though, they price things way to high to start. Some people of the sites appear to have bid counters that are unfair to the common public. It's all about making a buck.
My dad had a stroke. He had bid on items and won but the day he died basically he was not conscious in order to pay for the items their policy is if you have three items that are not paid for within 7 days you are on indefinite suspension. He tried to message them and explain though they were not hearing it.
I had an account it was canceled because we live in the same house. So I made another account purchase two items on it and because they're vendetta they canceled it due to non-payment although those payments were paid for almost immediately after the auction so the lady sent me the letter as listed below saying that I had purchased several items and not paid for it I told her that that was my dad not me and I had never purchased anything these people are just shameful they're not out to help anybody they don't care about the truth they're vindictive and it's just a shame My dad was using these purchases to help support his family because he had been out of work it done a good job of buying and reselling items cleaning them up and reworking them in some cases doing what he had to to make a living unfortunately sometimes things happen they don't care so if you doing business with them to help support the company in I would suggest go to your local store but stay away from the online. They are shysters and swindlers
Purchased an IBM typewriter online, and upon its arrival and opening, I found the machine was poorly packaged, resulting in two keys, one being the on/off switch being broken off and the rod that holds them bent as well as a couple of other small cosmetic issues, and after contacting that goodwill they were at first willing to work with me offering a partial refund or a full refund, which ever I preferred depending on what I felt like was fair, so after looking on eBay for parts I found only one key top for sale of the two I needed, it being $18 + $4 shipping, the other key is currently not available. With this information and photos we $#*!ered on a price, which there offer was $40 off the original purchase price, not even enough to replace what was broken, if it were available. Against my better judgement I offered as high as $50 or apx 1/2 of what I paid for it, they declined my offer which makes me scratch my head, goodwill would rather lose my money on a machine that they got for free, and pay to have it shipped back instead of cutting their losses (which is still actually 100% profit) than to understand my point of view… oh yes then they asked me if I didn't care add some extra packing on the return, which I declined. I'm not upset, but I think goodwill is so driven by greed that they have lost sense of what is good business
This site is chuck full of shill bidders. The same desirable items 'sell' for huge money, then are back on the auction block the very next day...no 7 day wait for 'payment' from the 'winner'.
You think you're doing good, but you are being exploited and manipulated by Goodwill employees whose only job it to falsely run up prices. I see the same abbreviated buyers IDs winning auctions all the time...then it's right back on the auction block immediately, the next day.
Shady as 'heck'.
Buyer beware.
Please don't buy necklace or something expensive on shopgoodwill.com online. Be aware of that I bought 14k necklace for 836$, and the description was incomplete and when I received the necklace it's was 14k hollow not solid for 836$, so I text them for a return they say for the policy of the company the will not offer me a refund or return. You see how goodwill are still our money, please don't buy jewelry at goodwill online. They are rude and don't care about the money you spent. Please don't take the risk keep your money if you want to buy a jewelry go to eBay it's more safe than online goodwill. Thank you
Just be warned, check the shipping price, they don't care what they charge you and most of it seems to come from greed. Some lots will also charge you a handling fee. My guess is this is the fee you are charged for them throwing your items from one box to another before slapping a label on it and tossing it to the FedEx driver. For some reason they are allowed to sell counterfeit jewelry, which you are not supposed to own by the way so I'd like to thank them for trying to make me into a criminal.
You will occasionally get some good deals but will be disappointed with the items you were deceived on or received broken because of their "handling". I buy vintage jewelry and it can be heartbreaking when you receive your long awaited box only to open it and find your previously beautiful vintage items in pieces because nothing was secure and had been roughly floating around a box traveling thousands of miles. Feel lucky you received the box at all. I've not received seven of them. I won't even get into the hassle of this surprise. It's not pleasant. While bidding, there are buyers that will pay anything to get the good stuff, you will mostly feel like you get sloppy seconds, if you even get that, unless you have an endless supply of money. All of these things will get old and you will find that there are better places to spend your hard earned dollars and get better deals. Buying cool stuff never has to be this disappointing. They have some really great things donated to them but greed takes over, they seem to forget most of what they sell is used, they clean nothing and don't let you know you just bought a bunch of broken crap they are getting better than top dollar for. They say they will combine shipping but don't expect any shipping costs to go down. They just combine the costs also. The great deals are just too few and far between and I won't spend my money at goodwill ever again.
I have purchased several items from this website, I have always been pleased with my purchase but I certainly haven't been satisfied with the price of shipping. I've shipped out lots of things but I have never experienced paying the amount for shipping that Goodwill stores charge to ship! It shouldn't be $15-20 to ship a small single item, it just shouldn't. I understand for the heavier items or multiple items to run average of about $10, but even those items shouldn't be higher than $15. I know y'all are going for a profit, but I feel we should have a break purchasing the items that have been donated to the Goodwill.
Goodwill is big money. And it's never enough. I used to go to the stores until they started keeping the decent items and selling the crap for more than it was worth. At shopgoodwill online they bring deciet to a new level. Normally the charge 6 or 7 times the actual shipping weight to make more money. A tablet rocking 7 pounds, wow! A 10 pound vacuum robot hitting 55 pounds, really. They also take horrible pictures so you can't really see what you are buying. And they have statements like "this item works but it is sold for parts", and then you get it and it doesn't work, wow! Last year I purchased a tablet and it was actually stolen from a school, after a giant run around I finally got my money back. Save a headache and buy used stuff from somewhere else!
I have made thousands of dollars from purchasing off ShopGoodwill.com, I Have found great deals on items then I turn around and sell them for a higher price on other platforms.
I bought a scarf that was $11. The shipping for the scarf was over $12. I could've bought a new scarf at a department store for less! Customer service unwilling to work with me when I contacted them about the shipping costs. STUPID. Be aware that they price gouge in their stores AND ONLINE~
Bottom line I purchased an item they shipped it to Fedx {Fedx sucks} Fedx lost the thing ShopGoodwill will not help file all the claims you want. Nothing will happen. I called the goodwill center the item came from. They said I was the third phone call that day with issues, and I swear, they laughed and said there was nothing we could do to go file a claim on shop goodwill.
Answer: It did not get lost they did not get the price they wanted for the said item so it's lost they will wait for a while and realist it under a different item number and raise the shipping price and bid price with the auto bods so they can get a higher price for the item
Answer: Well look at the salary of their CEO vs. The salary of the Salvation Army's CEO. That will tell you what kind of "non-profit" it is.
Answer: If buyer got to leave their personal experiences with this company, they wouldn't exist in a year. They aren't going to risk that. Only honest sellers want their information posted for everyone to see. So don't expect it from Goodwill.
Answer: If you aren't using paypal or a credit card, there isn't much recourse. With paypal, the seller has to prove you received the item. If they can't, you will get your money back.
