The Shopgoodwill website is broken. Auction winners are not being notified about their winning bid after the auctions end. There is no request for payment.
This has now happened to me four times. I receive other emails from the website, but not any notification of winning. I checked my spam folder, too.
I know that I won only if I go back and check my account. However, if I assume a winning notification will be sent, it never comes. I have now won four times without being notified.
I reported the problem to Shopgoodwill support and was completely ignored. The responses appear automated. When I requested a supervisor or contact by the website developer, I was ignored.
I have used this website for 10 years. I understand it is for charity, but even charities need to operate like a real business. An important function of the auction website is not working and there is no one who will respond or fix it.
It seems a complete scam, and rip off to the public,,, shipping rates and they tax my entire Oder including shipping and handling fee,,, never again, that's site is a scammer paradise, inside trading, misleading and general poor service
Tempting, so very tempting! There is a lot of good stuff to look at but once you add shipping and handling plus the downright irrational bidding that happens most items end up being expensive. Why pay ‘ handling' if it takes 8 plus days to get your item shipped anyhow? A few times when I thought I'd actually catch a deal I was outbid at the last moment only to see the item re- listed... in the spirit of ‘donating' to community efforts this all could pass if only goodwill had a decent overhead cost ratio, which they don't. So, maybe not such a great place to spend your money and if you feel like donating you might as well pick a favorite charity and give directly to them!
It's great once you find a few reputable shops and primarily but from them. I always check the handling and shipping fees before placing bids, sometimes they are over the top and scam money that way. Best ways to buy is buying bulk lots, less known but expansive brands, and buying several lots from the same store to combine shipping (but make sure the store allows this). Also be careful by checking the pictures closely, I purchased a coach purse in "new" condition that smelled and had a large stain at the bottom. I went back and saw they didn't show the bottom of the bag in the picture. On the other hand, I bought a gorgeous like new condition Dooney and Bourke leather bag for a total of $20, from the same store. So basically you either get lucky or not.
So far, I've gotten everything shipped to me in good condition, all items came intact and packaged well. Shipping and handling prices can be really high at times, which is my main complaint about this site. I buy from their one cent shipping section to avoid having to pay the overpriced shipping/ handling. Overall, the shopping experience is decent.
I've spent probably $500 on this site because you can find some very rare items for a good price. The caveat is, as others have noticed, that the shipping is easily twice what the cost should be. Also, beware of getting into bidding wars. The user can't view the maximum bid for an item, so when entering what is said to be the minimum bid you are likely to be told you have been outbid several times before you are finally granted the highest bid.
It is also suspect that many collectible items (video games, rare toys and board games) will be bid up higher than the worth of the item - especially when factoring in $20 or more in shipping. Whether this is done by Goodwill employees or uneducated shoppers, I do not know.
A couple of times I won and then bid on so many items I could not afford shipping on and realized that I had other things to do than pay high shipping cost. I also didn't know anything about the site and then came back found out they closed all my accounts lol. I was on goodwill for 1 year and just this year I caught myself having to send tons of messages to plead that they reopen my account and I apologized for not paying. I failed to realize that you got to think about others that bid and could have won it. So they reopened my account and I am very careful at what I bid on now. But lord ham mercy the cost of that fur coat DONNYBROOK was crazy it was $100 and had stains on it. I paid $20 for the Victoria secret shoes that had stains on it. You can honestly find nice stuff but be careful on shipping cost. I find myself looking at the 1 cent ship auctions now.
Really watch your check out receipts because it appears to be regular practice to charge obscene shipping charges and by that I mean an item posted as 2 pounds on bidder page suddenly became 33 pounds at check out and it keeps happening over and over again. If you contact the store they will correct it but it happens so much I have to believe it is intentional and making them lots and lots of extra money when people check out without looking, shame on you Goodwill. Good stuff bad shipping.
I just wanted to say as a reseller, I very much appreciate Shopgoodwill.com. I have been shopping here for over 8 years and I would say 99.5% of the items I have purchased have been perfect. If there was something wrong with the item that was not mentioned or photographed, I have always gotten either a partial or full refund, but almost all of the time the items are in excellent condition. Granted shipping can be steep but I have noticed that in some of the locations they are now lower on the smaller items. Some seem crazy and I just don't bid on those items. The staff has been great in both the individual stores and the support site, they have always address my issues and are fair. Thank you guys, you are much appreciated!
I like to watch Goodwill, however, I have gotten gouged many times by shipping. They will not change their policy. I had a scarf sent to a friend, paid more for the shipping. They will not accommodate someone for shipping. Also, you must watch quality of some items. While they say "good", depends on the item. It is still fun to watch, but they have it figured out with shipping. Plus the CEO makes mega money...
When I originally found this website, I thought it was a hidden gem where I could find great deals but with the outrageous shipping and handling charges, these supposedly great deals go out the door. I ordered an item(for a considerable amount of money) and it came to me with a hole. Since the item description had called the item "good" condition, I messaged the seller and after back and forth communication around a week and a half later I got an email saying i would be refunded. It's yet to go through to my bank account but assuming it goes through, i'm pleased with that customer service.
I get the best deals on shopgoodwill.com. I never even knew this place existed until the pandemic, it's the highlight of 2020 for me.
I have had no problems with anything I have purchased and I have purchased a great deal of stuff here. Shipping is pretty fast too. And of course the deals are incredible. Love, love, love!
I purchased a doll and doll case. The item was dirty. But I realize that I am shopping at Goodwill. Be realistic - these are give away items that the past owners did not want. So do not expect first quality items to be purchased from this site. Set your expectations as if you were shopping at your local Goodwill. And remember you are giving to a good cause.
I would agree that the shipping and handling is overpriced but I still have been able to find amazing bargains. I support Goodwill as it is a worthy cause and offers amazing prices if you have patience and a bit of spare cash.
It takes a little time and shipping is expensive but if you search for the items you need only from your local store and you pick them up, you can get incredible deals. These are items that most people do not want to deal with. You can get a very cool framed painting, for example, that a person across the country wouldn't want to pay $20.00 for shipping, but you buy the item for $9.99 and go pick it up.
This website is great. Everything is dirt cheap and not that many people know about it yet so there isnt a lot of people trying to out-bid you. The only problem that I have for the site is that their video games and video game consoles are not tested. They say the condition but do not test it so its a little risky.
Okay, so i'm going to be honest I buy for personal and to resale. I will say this site is really good if you are looking for designer items to source. I have bought alot of nice clothes from here and shoe lots. I also have bought my kids alot of things off of here that were new. I love the site and glad i found it. The only issue i have is the shipping can be pricey sometimes and the time to get the item can take sometimes over a week because it may take the company 5 days to ship out an item. Other than that this site is a really great site to get good items from. I have bought over 50 auctions from this site and I love everything I have gotten.
Little girl plastic purse $5.99 before it would be.99. Used shoe $12.98 all the way up to over $20. If I'm going to pay those prices, I'll go to purchase new. Pricing very inconsistent. I know the previous manager passed away, but Randy was awesome and made our community able to shop there.
They bid on their own items to drive up the prices. Very slow & high priced shipping. No feedback on any bidders, never really know if they're real bidders or Shopgoodwill employees. Customer service is very poor and response time is pitiful or nonexistent. Really believe they are taking advantage of the general public, especially when you consider they only sell free and donated items.
The pictures are all out of focus and new platform does not allow you to zoom in to see wording on the products. When emailing them, the response is 'we have too many items and cannot give specific details' so everyone, know that you are buying blind. Unable to return for damages not shown in the pictures. Unethical way of selling online. I found exact item on ebay for 1/2 the price and at least the pictures are clear and you know what you're buying. I've been shopping for more than 5 years, and I have cut my purchases by 90% because of their new practices. I've also been shorted items on bulk purchases I was supposed to receive 12 only received 9 and when contacted, no response, they just closed the message. Shipping prices for a 1 lb item you're being charged for 25 lbs. when questioned, they blamed fedex.
Answer: It did not get lost they did not get the price they wanted for the said item so it's lost they will wait for a while and realist it under a different item number and raise the shipping price and bid price with the auto bods so they can get a higher price for the item
Answer: Well look at the salary of their CEO vs. The salary of the Salvation Army's CEO. That will tell you what kind of "non-profit" it is.
Answer: If buyer got to leave their personal experiences with this company, they wouldn't exist in a year. They aren't going to risk that. Only honest sellers want their information posted for everyone to see. So don't expect it from Goodwill.
Answer: If you aren't using paypal or a credit card, there isn't much recourse. With paypal, the seller has to prove you received the item. If they can't, you will get your money back.
