Ordered cake 2 weeks in advance $70. Even contacted them earlier this week and was told don't worry will be shipped on time. Well today was the birthday…. Got a notice that won't be delivered til Monday! A little girl is quite disappointed.
I wish I would have read these reviews before purchasing. I paid extra for overnight delivery & no cake! Now my daughter is out of town and the cake will indeed sit on her front porch and rot for 5 days until she arrives home just to have to throw it away.
My husband got this for me for Valentine's day. It was the stupidest thing ever. The cake was awful. The butterfly's that worked went up and that was it. They didn't fly around the room and are literally just a small rubber band to make them work. Only about 3 worked. I would have much rather had flowers.
Was supposed to be a birthday gift but was delivered late--also left on porch in 90 degree heat w/o even ringing doorbell to alert you of delivery--they use FedEx and say its not their problem yet it's an ongoing issue-never again!
I ordered the special Valentines bundle which includes a cake in a box that unfolds and fake flowers and flying toy butterflies come out. Turns out the cake is the size of a Hostess Ding Dong and the butterflies don't fly, they just kind of pop out and flail around on the table for about 3 seconds. They charged $90 for this. I haven't tried the cake yet but it better be really good for what I paid.
The Harry Potter explosion box was nice and the person it was bought for enjoyed the surprise. Unfortunately, the cake came three days later than the date selected and in the late afternoon. I reached out to customer service after noticing tracking would not have the cake arrive on the 5th as selected, and the response I received stated there is a 5-day window from the date that you can expect delivery (when choosing UPS ground). Aside from that, we are in Florida and it appears the delivery came from the Pacific Northwest area. As such, and unfortunately, by the time the cake box was opened, the cake looked like a melted chocolate blob. Keep in mind, the cake experience in not relatively cheap and it appears you are mainly paying for the explosion box as opposed to a cake. In my opinion, the advertising videos are a bit misleading as to the size of the cake (more or less the size of a cupcake).
It's a cute little idea. We got one for our kids and Halloween as a surprise and then I sent a Harry Potter one to a friend as a birthday gift. It's more of a novelty kind of thing. One time is plenty so no need to try to get repeat customers.
The cake is just ok. Super small.
What I really don't like is that you try to go buy the box and guess what? Cake is extra $6-10. Ok but there is no option except to have a cake. The place is literally called send a cake so why would it be extra to add the most basic cake when it should be included in the $40 you were already going to pay?
So extra $6 here. Extra $$ over here for a song to play. Extra $$ for butterflies. Always an extra.
Shipping is a TON! And they don't say until you are already almost checked out.
$40 stupid little surprise cake for fun suddenly $70 really quickly.
Well its Valentines day and I sent my mother another "Send A Cake" what a mess. I thought when I sent her the first one last year the cake tasted good, but hence to say it did not. Since my mother never told me this I assumed the cake was good well, the lemon was not nor was the chocalate. It was a great expense to me because I wanted to see the smile on her face as well as my sisters face when they received the items. To no avail the concept of the butterflies and the box are awesome, the cake was not :(

Easter box … paid extra for pictures on the flaps $20,
Butterflies surprise —- there were 14 butterflies which flew
Recipient 80 yr old widower
He was startled with the butterflies but enjoyed the experience
No comment in cake or cookies
Think this is the cutest idea! Bet advised the cake is for one person only and small. I will be sending these out to my friends and family. Clever idea!
Too expensive to be unreliable & to not give refund. 1 child at the same house received her cake surprise on time. The other 2 little girls got theirs 4 days later. How to explain a bad business to 2 crying little girls who have been through recent trauma!
Just use a different business
Our experience with send a cake was that the butterflies were awesome! So you have to decide if $75 is worth a butterfly release! Most of the the candy came imbedded in the cake and apparently the cake was half melted and not edible either. Oh, and apparently it came with a note to freeze within 24 hours of receiving? That isn't mentioned on the website ANYWHERE! Making it extremely hard to warn the recipient if we don't know! Waste of money. Buy a box of exploding butterflies on Amazon!
The worst company. Don't expect to receive your product. Ordered 1 month in advance. At 8 pm on her birthday the response was wait for 9 pm. Ridiculous. Never again a small cake for 90+ dollars only to be gaped.
So I ordered a cake on 06/04 for my daughter's birthday on 06/09. I picked for it to be delivered on the 8th and it's not being delievered until the 10th. Why is there a delivery date if it can not be delivered on a specific date! Not recommended
Order never reached the recipient. Good luck getting through to customer service which is non-existent. Don't bother pressing "2" to leave a message because the mailbox is always full. Order a Send-A-Cake at your own risk. Forget about ordering if the recipient lives in an apartment building. Then they require a signature. Really? Better off sending Mrs. Fields cookies. They never fail to deliver. Even to apartments.
I ordered a b-day cake for my grandson. I sent the correct date so it would be there for friends and family to see. They decided to deliver it 2 days early which defeats the purpose of even ordering the cake. When I called the person blamed it on Fed Ex. BS! I would NEVER recommend this company, not even a word of apology!
Ordered this as a Valentine's Day gift for the family. Box arrived very early so had to open before the actual day. The box was supposed to shoot out a bunch of cars into the air to make it rain. The machine jammed and not 1 card shot out. Then the flowers inside were dollar store very cheap looking flowers. The actual "cake" is extremely small! Smaller than a bagel. Very small and not good. These cake boxes are very expensive we paid $136 for this epic fail. You are better off buying a Bundt cake and making your own!
I ordered this cake for my daughter's 21 birthday. She received it early and was left out in the rain. The box never exploded and the cake was gross. I called and they basically they said it was to bad. It costed almost 60 dollars and the cake was the size of a peanut butter cup. Very bad customer service and they were totally rude. Never buy from them again recommend definitely going somewhere else.
Sucks the website doesn't allow real reviews, it goes to the admin for review.
We did the Harry Potter exploding cake for my moms birthday. Box stunning, the explosion was awesome. We loved the music, lights and Harry Potter butterflies. The super tiny cake was super cute: but a single serving and the nastiest cake we've ever tasted. Worse than easy bake oven.
First, the item never arrived when it was supposed to. I call "Send a Cake" and they tell me to fill out a claim request for the DELIVERY charge refund ($18). I asked for a full refund since I never received the item on my wife's ACTUAL birthday! Well, I'm still going back and forth with them and they just refer me to their "refund policy". Paid $103.92 and will probably not get reimbursed because I don't have the time nor the patience to follow-up with their useless customer service reps. All they keep saying is they are sorry BUT not sorry enough to fix the problem or listen to their paying customers. I'm never using this company again and will be sure to share my experience with everyone who will listen. Next time I will stick with Edible arrangements, they don't disappoint!
Answer: Terrible Customer service. They provide a phone number but I've ben on hold for a least an hour (two different days) and they never pick up. When you tap to leave a message... the mailbox if full. Their email responses I think are AI. There is no name at the bottom and they are not helpful.
Answer: If you wind them up properly and put them in the place in the box where they were originally put. Probably won't work as well as when you first got it from the company though.
The company's reputation is marred by significant concerns regarding product quality and delivery reliability. Customers frequently express disappointment with the actual experience not aligning with promotional materials, citing poor cake quality and malfunctioning surprise elements. Additionally, service delays and inadequate customer support exacerbate frustrations, with many reporting late deliveries and unresponsive communication regarding refunds. While some customers appreciate the novelty of the gift concept, the overall sentiment leans negative, highlighting a need for improved service reliability and responsiveness to customer inquiries to enhance satisfaction and trust.
