I have been buying from this store for years. I have never had any problems. I spend about 2k a year, one year on processor/motherboard, one year on gpu and so on.
Ordered a Next Level F-GT on the 16th, checked they were in stock, checked delivery estimate of 17-23rd dec so placed and paid for it, Christmas present so even their latest estimate was still in time.
Nothing from them since, so tried to contact via live chat, they don't have access for delivery updates and advised me to call, twice on hold for about an hour then eventually got through to Jake who was very helpful and tried to prioritise the order.
Jake gave me his email and direct line to keep in touch but his direct line doesn't work and he's not replied to my email.
I am totally fuming, on their website today (23rd dec) it says order today for delivery for 29th Dec, Ill be lucky if i get mine, paid for over a week ago now by then, can't even cancel it as it's a total nightmare to try to speak to someone at scan and gave up after being stuck on hold today for 45 minutes. If your too busy to fulfil orders then stop taking them.
It looks like Christmas is cancelled in our house this year, i totally appreciate covid and christmas delivery issues but I ordered based on availability and delivery promises, i had other options to buy from but decided on scan because they looked like a reputable company, lesson learnt.
Going to be one very sad little boy on Christmas day
Ordered a couple of 'in stock' items on Monday 28th December and paid for next day delivery. Monday was a bank holiday so I naturally expected delivery on the following Wednesday, with a dispatched notification on Tuesday when they were all back to work. Mid-way through Tuesday they still hadn't confirmed payment, until I rang them to find out if there was an issue with the payment, there wasn't. Payment was only put through during the call, fair enough and they said my order would be dispatched later the same day. Needless to say, it didn't arrive and the status remained at 'payment authorised' all day Wednesday, and the items were not picked nor dispatched. Another call on Wednesday to be told "Sorry, we've been busy since the Christmas break, blah, blah... we'll get it sent out later today" Same story on Thursday, items not picked nor dispatched. Contacted them again Thursday and I ended up cancelling the order as they couldn't guarantee me a Saturday delivery. Ordered instead through Amazon for same day delivery for only a little bit more. If you're not fussed about speed of delivery then they may be OK for you, otherwise avoid if you're in a hurry.
Thief's charged me for a 3080 even though they didn't have any. Scum. Now saying I've pre ordered it as they oversold it. Should be illegal.
I-have used scan many times over the years and have found a great value and fast service every time. I would use again and recommend.
SCAN has only come on to my radar recently, but I'm glad they did.
I was on the hunt for a new Music Production Workstation, so I asked around professional circles who the go-to was. SCAN came back almost unanimously from several different sources.
I got in touch with the team and started asking some questions, and it became apparent that the service here was going to be first class (and I'm extremely picky).
SCAN don't tell you what you want to hear. They tell you what you NEED to hear, and this for me is a critical thing.
They don't want to just grab your money and run, rather, if they feel something else is better for your situation (even if that means no sale), then they will be honest with you.
So when I came forward with a build, and I said
"I want this one, im doing this"
I was told
"are you aware 'x' is happening soon? I feel for what you want, you might benefit from waiting for 'x', if you can..."... and on researching what he was talking about, he was absolutely right.
This to me, shows they genuinely care about our needs as customers and its not just about giving us what we WANT. That one bit of advice has prevented me from buyers remorse and its just showing me that SCAN are going to take care of my NEEDS, which in reality is far more important.
So I've gone and bought my audio interface from SCAN, and they even did my order with a special request which was fulfilled flawlessly.
This request would have required multiple departments to effectively communicate (as I said, it was a little out of the ordinary), but this was not too much, and was executed flawlessly.
I have to say, from the initial point of contact, to the ongoing communication, through to the ordering, to dealing with my "out of the ordinary" special request...
I am hugely impressed so far.
I will create another review as SCAN will be building my Pro Audio Workstation in the next month or so.
So far... 10/10
I have had to write this review here as Scan have reported my review on Trustpilot as being fraudulent and claiming I have not had this bad experience. A blatant lie (I'm waiting for Trustpilot to verify the details I had to send) that has now encouraged me to go out of my way to highlight this behaviour.
They took money for a 3080 and have given no one an exact time when they will even receive it. They've had my money for at least 11 days now. Twitter staff are dismissive, just tweet a link you and tell you to wait (after they took £772 and refuse to say when you will receive).
They are not reporting one sentence, five star reviews. But apparently a thought out and annoyed response is something they don't want the public to see. I just originally wanted some kind of acceptable answer on why they took that money when they had no way of supplying people the product, or a date when it will be received.
They are currently sitting on thousands of pounds of money that is earning them interest, while normal customers are left out of pocket. I've spent £2000 this year with them, then they go and try to cover this up. I have zero interest in dealing with this company again.
Edit: After communicating with the Scan manager involved in the social media side on a Twitter, they JUSTIFIED taking my review down. Completely done. Trustpilot have needs to urgently look into their behaviour. They've taken £1000s and zero apology or acknowledgement.
When I put these reviews up I had to sign to say this was a legit experience, and that a lie can be unlawful. By taking my review down the manager in charge is in effect calling me a liar. Do not use this service!
£772 down and they don't care.
Purchased multiple terms from Scan on 08/03, totalling nearly £1,000. I received the items on 10/03 and noticed the a CPU fan pin was missing on the motherboard (there were only 3, not 4). Called scan on 11/03 to make them aware so I could get a replacement, I made them fully aware that I had tried to install it as well and was not made aware this would be an issue. Once they had received it, I got an email from them stating that they had "declined my warrenty" as there was apparently more damage to the motherboard than I had stated and also evidence of installation was there. I made them aware that I attempted to install it and they could not provide me of any proof of the other broken components so this was clearly just their way of getting out replacing/refunding the item. Spent a few days back and forth with Scan demanding my money back and all they offered is a possible repair at the cost of £25. If I accepted this, they wanted me to sign a waver to say I am happy that they may not be able to repair it and there is no timescale given even though I was in my legal right to get a refund. I therefore escalated the complaint to the retail ombudsman, but unfortunately they advised they were unable to help due to the lack of co-operation they have given in previous cases. I therefore escalated this to trading standards and citizens advice who did confirm I was legally entitled to a refund, so again went around in circles with Scan who kept saying I was in "breach of my warrenty". Luckily Scan are google certified, so I took my complaint up with Google. They refunded me the £150 I had spent on this item after a few days of correspondence with them and advised they would chase Scan for the money. This has only been fully resolved on
It seems Scan are happy to take your money but as soon as your receive a faulty item, they will do everything in their power to refuse a refund or help in anyway. I will never use Scan again!
Absolutely astounding incompetence. I placed an order 2 weeks ago. Everything i ordered was in stock and none of the items I ordered were recent product launches. There should of been no issues shipping it, and the Scan Website (including the COVID-19 page) confirmed that I'd be able to get my order shipped the next day.
It's been 2 weeks. My order still hasn't shipped. The websites tracking has said Awaiting Picking this whole time. I've had no contact from Scan to myself, i've had to chase them up at every turn. E-mails and, support contact forms and other forms of internet messaging is ignored. The live chat feature times out before connecting to an agent, and you have to try the phone line dozens of times before you don't get a busy signal, and then wait on hold for about an hour for someone to answer the phone. That person will then proceed to be completely unhelpful.
I've been given many creative excuses over the last two weeks as to why my order can't be shipped. Ranging from: "The items you ordered had to be shipped from our secondary warehouse, so now we have to quarantine them for 72 hours before we can re-pack them for delivery". "We're behind on our orders because of Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Christmas" "We're prioritising supplies to the NHS, so all our regular customer orders are behind" and of course "We still need more time to adapt our business practices to covid".
Each and every time I've spoken to customer service they have said they are flagging my order as Urgent, or Critical, or Important, and guarantee it will be shipped in the next 2 working days. It then of course isn't.
No other UK IT supplier is having these kind of issues, I know this because I ordered a bunch of different parts from 6 other suppliers and they were all sent within 2 days.
If you value your time don't ever buy from Scan. Try CCL, Aria, Overclockers, AWD, Novatech or Amazon instead.
I've been sitting on the fence for a while now when looking at upgrading my previous PC (Surface Pro 4).
I began looking around websites for a suitable device that would meet my needs as a semi pro photographer. I'd heard Apple products were the go to for this, but had also had conflicting reviews advising on some Windows products that could do the same thing.
I looked around a number of websites for a good deal on all items, when I noticed the 2017 Macbook Pro that Scan were selling as an Easter promotion. This was nearly £200 cheaper than refurbished deals elsewhere.
I read reviews of the product from various sources and saw that Scan had the better deal with both overall price and finance provision with lower monthly payments, and a 14 day return policy if the product was not to the standard/ability for my requirements.
With that in mind, I took the gamble to purchase through Scan.
The System for purchasing was efficient and very clear in telling me what was going to happen, I added the Macbook to my trolley, created a scan account and went through the simple to follow setup of my profile then completed the purchase.
I was redirected to a finance application which was also very straightforward before being accepted almost instantly.
When the purchase was complete, I received order acknowledgement and tracking information for the parcel within 30 minutes, the tracking facility was accurate enough to tell me when the parcel had been in every part of the picking process, right throught to the DPD delivery drivers name and GPS location on their delivery round.
The item arrived well packaged and in genuine apple box marked up as a genuine refurbished Apple product - This was fine as I had ordered Refurb.
I powered up the Macbook and it already had basic charge to test that it worked, it also came with all advertised accessories too.
I would definitely recommend Scan as they were transparent in all operations during this purchase.
These guys are the worst when coming to refunds. They have exchanged one faulty product, but when I have requested the replacement product to be refunded as it was faulty as well and failing just like the first product, they have said that the second product was damaged by me when they received it and refused to issue the refund. They were insisting on me to sign a return policy so they can return the product to the manufacturer, but saying that since the product is physically damaged, the manufacturer will most likely void the warranty. BUT THEY WERE INSISTING TO SEND THE PRODUCT TO THEM REGARDLESS. Makes no sense, right? They were claiming that are the best at customer service, but one of their managers (Amanda Savage) has been dealing with my query, quite frankly, in a savage way. At first they have issued blurry photos where you cannot see the PCI card, but only the metallic bracket being damaged. When questioned, they have issued again some photos, these time clearer than the first ones, but again the product and the serial number on the card not fully visible. Very dodgy! I have finally agreed with them to return the faulty product to me so I can investigate the damage, and I was shocked of what I've seen. The bracket seemed deliberately bent with a screwdriver or a long nose pliers in a very hard way.
I will proceed with a full legal complaint against them and will FIGHT UNTIL I'LL GET MY MONEY BACK. I have purchased over the years more than £5,000 worth of components from them and have worked both full time and privately as PC builder and assembled over the years dozens of computers. NEVER DAMAGED NOT EVEN A SINGLE PART. Not even as a rookie.
MY ADVICE: if you return a product to them, make a full video of how the product is packed, then boxed, and keep it aside just in case. I guarantee they will play this game with you too.
My order number was *******953 and the return RMA number ******* (just so they know this is a legitimate review with a legitimate complaint).
Answer: I like Scan because the Sales staff are extremely knowledgable and the procurement process is stress free and smooth. Prices are as low or lower than competition and postage as cheap as the cheapest but more importantly Scan has obviously invested in staff and processes so I really enjoy ordering from them because as a home user I can move from desire to anticipation to easily and as a business user I need to have absolute clarity about the procurement process.
Answer: I'd agree with most of the above except Amazon and Ebuyer - in terms of postage and the ordering process in terms or order to receipt. I find Amazon in particular a bit of a crapshoot - it can very good but as there are so many sellers I feel putting Amazon in is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Mind you, Andy was responding by talking about 'return processes and support' so I guess that does also go in the heading of 'better' and "in some way". In terms of cost, Scan is the generally the same or cheaper. As to better, if you are a custom PC builder then https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ is nerd's paradise - but only better in the sense that it is orientated to the self build PC nerd. It's a consumer site - not orientated to the business user - but definitely worth a mention. Scan can however, build a system for the home as well as the business sector. Their custom built rigs are almost absurd but I guess while they can build for gaming nuts, really they are for people (IMO) like the Soho people (3D and Film work people)
