The overall reputation of Paula Young Wigs is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding product quality and customer service. While some customers appreciate the variety and quick shipping of certain items, many express frustration over the quality of wigs, often describing them as poorly made or not matching their expectations. Common concerns include lengthy return processes, high restocking fees, and unhelpful customer service that fails to resolve issues effectively. This combination of product inconsistency and inadequate support has led to a prevailing sentiment of distrust among consumers, prompting many to seek alternatives.

Wanted to buy a wig for 59.99 with the 20% discount + free shipping they offered it came to 51.99 but then it disqualified me for the free shipping because it wasn't 59.99 - that's where they get you - by using their 20% discount you no longer qualify for the free shipping. On top of that they add a delivery insurance fee and a covid fee so a wig that cost 51.99 is now 71.99. They charge 12.99 for shipping first class on an items that doesn't even weigh 12 oz. What a rip off.
Ladies beware... I ordered a Carson wig thinking I was getting a "New Wig" well I was sent a used wig. I had already removed the tag or I would have returned it. (my bad) so it's ready for the trash. So unhappy with this company... have been a customer for many years. So just beware & don't make the mistake I did. I would give a zero rating if I could.
I ordered several wiglets and the color it quality was not right, so I sent them back. Going on 4 weeks now and no refund! I am charges 15.00 for shipping and no wiglets. I will never order again from this company. Customer service is horrible!
The last 2 wigs I purchased were not as shown in the catalog. The 1st wig did not even look like hair. It looked like shiny synthetic fibers. The 2nd wig which I had to wait 2 months to receive, was poorly cut and the color was not as shown in the catalog. I had to pay for shipping on both items. They offered no complimentary shipping for the inconvenience of the 2 months back order on the second wig. My 2nd wig was $56 and I ended up paying $74 for it after shipping and Covid surcharges were added to the sales tax. I paid for the return shipping in lieu of their shipping label. They offer no customer service, even when their product is defective. This is not a customer friendly business, therefore, I will the longer do business with them.
Plus they charge an extra fee for something they called, Covid-19. Like the world is not suffering enough with shot-downs all around, they have surcharge people because of Covid-19.
I cancelled my order right on the get-go.
I don't think we need a company that takes advantage of people's suffering.
I like my wigs from Paula Young but I don't like their shipping policy. The charge for returns is costly and there are several charges up front when I buy wigs such as "COVID surcharge" and others. I feel that shipping should be free and returns too. It seems that a $39 wig may end up costing far over $50. Other companies offer free shipping and free returns. I think this company should, too
I wish I have read these reviews before I purchased items from this seller. I bought two turbans from Paule Young. They both made from easily wrinkled fabric, the design is ugly, and very poor workmanship, they do not fit properly, they are too small even with short hair, or maybe they were made for a newborn baby. If you wish to return you have to pay $9 to return. I will never buy anything from this Paula Young. Paula Young sells horrible-made products!
I purchased a wig and ordered the wrong one I called them immediately after and they said it was to soon to cancel the order to call back in a few hrs. So I waited 2 hrs. Called back and they said it was to late to cancel the order it was already in the warehouse! I am blown away and will never shop there again.
I order a wig the mailman waited for me to open box and fill out return slip close box and hand it right backed to him. Then when I call the company after 2 week and not getting a return. Ask for supervisor and she told me it would be another week before they issue my credit and then expect another 7 days for bank to credit the amount back to my card. Glad I didn't need my money for something else.
I get an email saying I can buy a wig for $39 and Free Shipping. I put the code in and "No Discount" for shipping! I call the company and I'm told at the bottom of the email I got it says I have to spend $59 to get FREE shipping. That is completely deceptive marketing. I don't appreciate this kind of underhanded tactics! I've enjoyed the wigs I get from Paula Young company but this false advertising is turning me away from this company.
Never got my wig. They said they will mail another one. I did not want it as it would arrive too late. But they insisted that they cannot cancel the order, only ship a new one and then I can return it. I agreed on the condition that I would not have to pay for return shipping. I return the too-late wig, but only was refunded(after 3 phone calls) for the wig. They deducted the return shipping fee. I have called them several times now, each time another excuse(after hrs, call back tomorrow, check has been written out but not mailed yet.It is now weeks later and I still do not have my refund. They do not ever deserve 1 star.
I really wanted to write a positive review, but I never received the wig I ordered, so I will just review Paula Young's poor customer service. They charged my card and the wig never arrived. What gives? Hope they make it right.
They charged me for the expedited shipping and shipped it regular shipping. When brought to their attention they refused to refund me the shipping charge. I still have not received the shipment. Customer service is horrible. I still have not received their product so cannot comment on the product.
THEY NEVER SENT THE WIGS, AND ALSO CHARGED MY CARD FOR WIGS I DID NOT ORDER. FINALLY, AFTER WEEKS I GOT A HOLD OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY HAD ALSO NOT RESPONDED TO MY MANY EMAILS. TODAY CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THAT THEY ARE BEHIND ON SHIPPING ORDERS BUT INSISTED THEY HAD SHIPPED MY ORDER. I ASKED FOR A CREDIT ON MY CARD FOR ALL THE ORDERS INCLUDING THE ONES I DO NOT RECOGNIZE. THEY REFUSED. INSTEAD, THEY SAID THEY WOULD RESHIP THE ORDER "SOME TIME." I TOLD THEM TO NOT SHIP THE ORDER AND TO GIVE ME A CREDIT. THEY REFUSED THIS. I TOLD THEM I WOULD REFUSE THE ORDER AT THE POST OFFICE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WOULD BE A $19.00 REFUSAL CHARGE ON TOP OF A 25% RESTOCKING FEE! BAIT-AND-SWITCH MUCH?
The wig that I'd selected from the pamphlet for $39.00, was nearly double the price on the website, and there was no information (code key) to enter to get the same discount online as was offered to me in the mailer. I didn't want to send a check because there is always the risk of some mishap occurring along the way, causing me to have to wait sometimes weeks only to discover that they never received it and then I'd have a check out there floating around that - if you I should fail to put a stop payment on - may cause my bank checking account to be inaccurate and/or disrupted for as long as it takes me to decide to pay the $15.00 or higher fee for a check cancellation... I ended up sending in my credit card information in the pamphlet order form, so I could pay by credit card. My choice to pay by mail was the only pay that I could get the price quoted to me for that specific wig (order and item number). Paula Young took three weeks to notify me, via post card, that the item was out of stock. I am appalled that they would advertise an item via a mailer and quote one price in the mailer and another on the website, for the same item number - and then make it near-impossible to get them to honor the quoted price, and then finally - after wasting weeks of my time, disclosing that they do not have the item after all. My overall opinion: Paula Young reels in potential customers by making them believe the item they select will be significantly cheaper than the price they end up paying, if they call their order in... And you will not get the item if you mail it in. I'm not advising you against patronizing Paula Young, I am simply warning you that you most likely will not get the item for the price quoted to you in a mailer.
I was told I have no order but they took my money and won't refund it! I just had a stroke and can't afford to lose the money for non delivery
I have purchased a few wigs from Paula Young. I have gotten to the point that I just keep the wigs, even if they dont look like the picture. I have no problem with a restocking fee if I change my mind. Changing my mind means the style of the wig or color does not look good on me. However if the wig looks nothing like the photo or the wig is so threadbare you can see the cap... I should not be stuck with it. Last month I puchased a wig. I spent nearly $100 on this wig. The style didnt look like the picture (was supposed to be barrel curls around the face... what it is... is a curly shag cut.) Still the color was fine. I'm not super happy with the cut but by the time I mail it back... get charged with a restocking fee (although the cut is different from the catalog picture) I will only see about $60 on my refund. However, this wig is so threadbare... you can see the cap. (I've dealt with their customer service... I know I'm going to get the shaft no matter what.) So now I'm faced with a delima of trying to sew in hair so you cant see the cap. I'm on chemo. (Which has destroyed my hair) I'm broke from hospital bills and now I must try to make do with this crappy hair. Im too sick & too tired to argue with their customer service. I have had maybe 50% of the wigs work out. For the most part... I feel taken advantage of. Ive included the photo. Its kinda small but you can clearly see the white bands of the cap. Its like this all through the top.
I love this style... It looks close to what I used to have and style and everyone always complements me on my hair. I have probably bought half dozen of just this one if not more...
Paula Young Wigs occasionally hit one right out of the park, but then inexplicably, they've canceled every one of these fabulous wigs! WHY!?!?!? Bizzarly, any wig that gets GREAT reviews is all but guaranteed to be discontinued within just a few months and go into the clearance section where they wait to sell out, and then that style is gone forever! This is the weirdest business model I've ever seen! Most of their wigs are are Betty Crocker-type, wiggy-looking looking horrors, but the gorgeous ones are shoved out the door!
The main thing that I loved about some of the discontinued wigs was their lack of that horribly itchy stuff that they call variously, "Perma-Tease" or "Perma Lift" that I absolutely detest. I think they would be better described as perma-scratch or perma-itch - but some people apparently like poufy, stiff, scratchy "hair," and this stuff certainly makes the grade in that respect. Paula Young seems to adore itchy, scratchy, poufiness, as it does seem to me that the wigs that are discontinued almost immediately after they are introduced are the lovely, natural-looking ones that DON'T have that itchy, scratchy, poufy stuff (see photo # 1: my favorite wig, the inexplicably now discontinued Paula Young "Sheer Vogue" which had rave reviews!). Sheer Vogue and several others that have been discontinued were hand-tied, full monofilament, very natural looking wigs made with very thin, realistic feeling fibers, and a lace front - AND Paula Young sold them at really ridiculously LOW prices (this type of wig usually costs several hundred dollars, but these sell for only about $60 (sixty - that's not a typo). So, maybe the manufacturer realized that they could sell them for a LOT more somewhere else, but this doesn't explain why they keep producing what is essentially the same wig in just slightly different lengths, and when they sell like hotcakes they're immediately discontinued! (Example: Sheer Heidi, slightly shorter than Sheer Vogue, and also discontinued. Both were part of the Couture Collection, and therefore, also had soft stretchy net caps that feel wonderful and fit everyone - even me, and I have a fairly large head!) One reviewer did say that these wigs tend to lose some of the 'hair' at the crown and along the part, but ALL wigs tend to lose some of the 'hair' at the crown and along the part. The itchy, scratchy, poufy stuff just covers this "hair' loss, so you can continue to wear your thinning wig a while longer - although you then look like you have a wad of dreadlocks under your part! (see photo # 2: it's a wig WITH itchy, scratchy, poufiness that has lost just a bit of the lovely soft, straight "hair" along the part, but it's already horrifying!)
I have to wear wigs due to hair loss after having had cancer twice, but I hated the itchy, scratchy, poufy stuff even when I had lots of hair and occasionally just wore wigs for fun. A hand-tied, full monofilament wig, with or without a lace front, can either be straight as a pin, curled into ringlets, or anywhere in-between, so why anyone would put the itchy, scratchy, poufy stuff in a curly wig is utterly beyond me. The curls maintain the poufiness all by themselves, and straight wigs that have that itchy, scratchy, poufy-stuff look utterly HORRENDOUS because you can see it where the "hair" is parted and it looks like you have a giant dread-lock on top of your head with straight hair hanging down on either side! I now have straight, wavey and curly wigs from Paula Young, none of which have that awful, itchy, scratchy, poufy-stuff in them, and they're all beautiful and I get loads of compliments about each one. I also have a couple of wigs with itchy, scratchy, poufiness that I purchased before I realized that there was a difference, and I hate them. I wouldn't know what other people might say about them because I wouldn't be caught dead in one. What does Paula Young have against soft, natural looking wigs?
Bottom Line: If you find a Paula Young wig that you love, buy several, and make sure to get the color, or colors, that you want, because they'll be gone before you'd usually even think of buying a second one!
PAULA YOUNG, PLEASE BRING BACK SHEER VOGUE AND/OR SHEER HEIDI AND STOP TORMENTING THOSE OF US WHO LOVE THEM! CHARGE A BIT MORE IF YOU HAVE TO, BUT DON'T TAKE THEM AWAY!
It didn't take long to get my wig. Its nice but, it just wasn't a good look on me. I feel out of 3 wig companies I ordered from I would trust this one more.
Answer: Cannot answer as I have not as yet received anything. Their products and service were good years ago, but it appears that is now a thing of the past.
