I am stupid and did this late at night and didn't realize it was NOT the government at all or that they didn't even help process the application. I paid $70 for them to fill out the application papers and probably steal my personal information. Let's be serious. The application questions are easy!
I should have paid better attention to what I was doing, so I blame myself, but this site is NOT a United States government site. It's not even located in the United States. I hurriedly entered my information and my phone automatically filled the payment information, only to find out that all you get is an empty form that you would get free anyway. I had to file a fraud report with my bank and the charge was reported out of a bank in Switzerland.
Take your chances with this if you want, but it appears this company is making money off people who don't know any better. They almost got me.
I just got ripped off for $49 because "passport-usa" was the first site to come up when I asked google "How can I renew my passport?" They do a very good job (using fine print) of appearing to be a us govt site. They charge $49 for a form you can get for free from the govt and fill out yourself by hand. Shame on google for not putting the use govt site first:

Nothing on this website is clear. It is as if, once they take your money, you're on your own. I paid for the family plan, allowing 4 users, but only saw one (me). After some thought, I filled out two applications but had apparently opened more than 4 in my struggling to understand the website. This maxed out my account, making it so I could print NONE of them. Not even the first four. They then wanted me to pay another $30 to "upgrade" my account to family to create 4 more "accounts". Stay far away.
Sneaky vocabulary promises "Hassle and Safe Free on-line assistance" is large and clear misleading the reader that the service is free, and the information that this is a private company on the top of the page in an estimated size 5 font, informing you that they are a private company is well hidden on the top line where most readers like me miss completely, but I find the address of. Org especially well done. I had always understood that to mean non-profit. So the fee of $38 to be led through 6 pages that an 8 year old could have done makes me ashamed of myself. Had I really believed $38 was going to the US government for a passport? I've learned a lesson that's for sure,
I can't believe I fell for this website and took the bait. I got charged $38 for FREE Passport Paperwork. I didn't realize my error (since I thought this was a legitimate US Passport Application) until I went to the passport office to turn in my application. $38 for this. What a scam and I am a fool for falling for this. I am now disputing the charge and putting up reviews everywhere so that people know this paperwork is free and stay away from these scammers.
SCAM ALERT! They fool you into thinking you're completing a passport renewal or new passport form. They charge you $130 which coincidentally is the same price as a renewal. Once process is complete, they email you and you discover that they charged you not for the renewal but to allow you to complete a form that is free via the US Govt. Complete SCAM! They also now have vital info like SS#, etc. Who knows where that's going?! I would also add, there are hundreds of reviews like this, I just wish I saw them first. AVOID THIS SITE AND SERVICE!
I agree with everyone else who has reviewed this fraudulent company. They present as an official government website and take your money for a form that is free. Makes me sick to my stomach that I gave them private information. This should be illegal!
I can't believe I fell for this scam. The worst part is I gave them all my personal information. They do not provide a service but just take your money. I'm talking to my credit card company first thing as well as Life Lock.
My wife just fell for this scam. Luckily her credit card company flagged and prevented the transaction. They do nothing for you. If you are looking for a government website, make sure it ends in. Gov.
I got duped and I was ticked... at the organization and at myself for falling for their scheme. However! I immediately emailed their support, stating that their site was misleading and requested a full refund, and that they do not pass on my info to third parties. Their fine print states you can make this request.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear in my Inbox the very next day? A FULL REFUND confirmation! I was shocked!
Will they sell my info off? Remains to be seen. But I certainly can't complain about their customer service.
This site poses as an official window for online passport applications, but it is NOT. Fortunately I woke up to my stupidity before paying for nothing, but not before giving them my social security number. Hateful creeps. Why can't law enforcement protect us from this type of thing?
I google passport renewal application and get their site. I was totally hoodwinked. I'm ticked because I am super aware person about these types of scams but was late to the party here. Definitely escalating to NY Consumer protection.
I typically do not fall for these type of things. I did at least stop short of putting in my credit card info, but they now have ALL of the rest of my private information. Totally useless site and should be shut down.
Fell for this like so many others. Acts like an official site, now they have all your private info. And google makes money putting them at the top of the list. My bad for clicking but there are so many people getting tricked google should be ashamed.
I filled out the forms and paid them thinking this was the passport office. When I met with an employee to process the passport and showed her I had paid $38.00 she said it was not part of the US Passport renewal. I now feared my information was shared and there would be fraudulent activity. I put a fraud watch on the credit reporting agencies. I found I could delete my account with these folks which I am not sure if that is true, but I did. Beware!
Do not use this company. I would select no stars if that were an option. I applied for a renewal passport with them 3 months ago. I didn't receive any kind of confirmation from them so I followed up with phone calls and emails with no response for almost a week. I went ahead and applied for my passport through a government site and then cancelled my application with Passport USA and requested a refund. At first they refused, stating they had already started working on my application. Bull$#*!. After additional discussion they agreed to refund and promises that would happen within 30 days. It didn't, with their blame placed on the company who processes. More bull$#*!.
This company is the worst I have ever dealt with. Unbelievably bad.
This is a total scam. The writing in fine Blue Print at the bottom of the first page that seems insignificant gives the correct information that you are paying only for filling out the form. However, the actual government website: travel.state.gov... is actually just as easy if not simpler to fill out than the passport USA. Org site. When paying for passportUSA, it states "just the document". I thought this meant I was paying only for the passport book since this is a document and one early option was to pay for a book and other things that I did not want. I have reported them to my credit card company which refunded my money, they are looking into this. I have also filed a formal complaint with e-commerce.gov which is the international Better Business Bureau. Do the same!
I, too, used this site and almost processed my husbands through them as well. But, as it turned out, when I visited the post office for stamps, the postal clerk informed that there should not be a charge... it's free to apply! Not a happy camper about it, but at least I didn't go ahead with my husbands. Out $38.00!
Out right Crooks. Wife applied to this crooked web-Site and was taken for $110.00. Sent in forms to correct Gov location and was rejected. I did not get involved till after all had taken place but warning to anyone using "nothing but a scam!"
Answer: Definitely a scam. Dispute the charge to your bank or credit card company.
Answer: File a Fraud Alert with any 1 of the 3 credit report bureaus as a precaution. US Gov has on-line guidance for this.
Passport-USA has a rating of 1.4 stars from 171 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Passport-USA most frequently mention post office, credit card and state gov. Passport-USA ranks 36th among Passports sites.
