I was very skeptical about this site when I first went on. I'll admit, they do ask you to answer a ton of questions when you make your account (I only answered them all because I had insomnia and nothing better to do). Yeah, I got a few messages from scammers, but after only a month, I met my boyfriend of two years who I now live with. And for the record, I did this with NO pictures uploaded- I find that cuts down on the scammers. I can't really compare to other sites, but I can say that someone who is honest in their profile and knows what they're looking for can definitely find what they're after here without too much trouble.
I've read a lot of reviews from guys who have had problems finding a serious girl here- to them I say, be a little more patient. There are a lot of creeps on the internet and a girl has to sort through all that to figure out if you're a serious guy, particularly on a free site that any psycho could be using. This site updates your matches pretty regularly, so if you keep at it, you should be able find a girl who is willing to give it a try. But to the guys saying they pushed for a face to face meet really quick- BIG MISTAKE! I would NEVER meet a guy I met online until we had talked enough via email or phone that I was sure it wasn't a trap. My boyfriend messaged me for about a month before I was willing to meet him. If you're truly a serious guy, then you should know that a serious girl needs (and is worth) the wait to be sure. If you're going to be an $#*! about it, then it's no wonder you don't get responses to your messages.
You ha e to pay to contact anyone.
They allow bots to roam free because they boost the number of "likes" that you can't see unless you pay. Stay away.
This app is great for meeting people. In my free time I enjoy talking with friends that I met through this app. I have also met my girlfriend through this medium. I can only say... thank you!
As i look at all of the people complaining, most of the complaints are 100% wrong. I have been on here 15 years (before it was called OKCupid!)
The thing that really sets them apart from every other site are the MATCHING QUESTIONS. In the beginning they merged with a pretty cool online question/quiz site. This gave them the ability to instantly match people with similar interests using an algorithm. If you answer enough question, it is surprisingly accurate. My two longest relationships were 99% matches.
I have discovered the algorithm starts to become more effective at about 300 questions. That seems like a lot at first, just make it a habit to answer 10 questions every time you log in and only answer questions you care about. Skip questions that aren't important. This makes the match percentage more reliable.
LOL... they should hire me as an online dating coach!
I found that a large percentage of people that hate online dating also hate traditional dating. Few people love it. Online dating is very similar to online job hunting, nobody loves that either. But we have to work, so we accept that it sucks. We also understand the power of the internet to pinpoint exactly what fits you best.
Dating apps are JUST TOOLS. If you pick the wrong tool for the job you cant really blame the tool. If you aren't using the tool correctly you arent going to get the expected results. I wonder if the people giving it 1 star also work for Match.com and POF.com, because the things they complain about are false.
When will Amazon Prime have an app? Select the features you want and they are delivered to you in two days!
Paid 25 bucks to find out who liked me. 14 fake accounts from Africa and 1 actual profile. The site was great 10 years ago but now it's total garbage.
Too much time wasted on nonexistent people. Many cannot put together a grammatically correct sentence.
The app itself is easy to use but no evidence of scammer removal.
OkCupid is a great site for meeting women. There are scammers (like anywhere nowadays) but I met someone right away. After 4 months, we're still going strong!
This is a great dating site to find serious love partner. Most profiles are real people. Dated several there and married one too.
Okc account, the previous accounts got banned for no reason! I reported that problem so many times but no one replied to my msg! I have 0 view, 0 like, 0 reply on there after having upload of mine dosen of nice pics viewing fifty! Profiles,"liking" twenty profiles AND WRITING TO TEN PEOPLE."0"VIEWS. THEY HIDINF PPL, S PROFILES SO PPL "go pay "30$... Scammers. No reply from OkCupid IS NOT SO "OK" This app sucks!
I am very sad that I have to lower my rating from 5-star to 3-star. Edit: And now to 2 stars. Every change in recent few years made it worse and worse. Also, every change of interface created tons of glitches. First the site stopped showing who visited you. It's o. K, because it made messaging and likes more important. Than they removed the possibility to see when someone was online. So you can be stuck in messaging someone, who wasn't there for years. Then they opted out messaging, unless you match with someone. It would be o. K, if girls were clever enough, to understand the principle of Liking and Matching. 90% of profiles now claim "Message me, I don't see likes". Recently they introduced some form of instant chat client. Which is so buggy, it's awful to use. Especially on mobile version. Speaking of mobile... I never could use mobile app, because it was not available for my region. And later because my device is not compatible. The most recent change is they limited number of Likes per day. It would be o. K, if it also wasn't so glitchy. Twice already my limit time expired, but magically it instantly renewed for another 24h on itself. The latest is that in Browse users you don't see those "who you liked" anymore. Are you people doing it deliberately, to destroy the site?
I must say I was free user all the time. And therefore it is still better than most other sites
I've been using a lot of dating sites, with more or less luck. Every site has it's pro's and con's. But OKCupid seems like a place, that has been so thoroughly developed. Many say it's a CIA project. Well, it's been developed by professionals, that's for sure:)
1. The search option is nice. You can choose between several criteria, even if you are a free user.
2. Messaging system became messy lately, but I got used to it. You need to match with someone in "Double take" game, to send her a message. I don't have a problem with that. It prompted a lot of girls to start playing the game, after all. And yes, it helps chasing away fake users.
3. There is a lot of room to describe yourself, on all aspects of life. I was always putting a lot of effort in that matter. And appreciated users who also do it. You can create more photo albums and put a lot of photos on your profile. You can also connect Instagram profile.
4.It seems to me that it attracts somewhat more intellectual users, which I like. Maybe that is the reason why many reviewers are complaining:)
The downside is there are so many transgenders. But it's not the technical issue, so I can't complain.
What else to say? I've met plenty of people through OKC, from all around the world. My current relationship is conceived on OKC. It is only one of the reasons for a 5 star rating
Had a profile on OKCupid. Met some guys, however, all of them are just looking for one night stands. Or constant sex hookups. My experience was horrible, lots of weirdos emailing me, or lots of indian males looking to cheat on their wives. And then there was the guy that I met that claimed he was single, great southern guy, we got along quite well from the first date, but after all was said and done, he was actually still married and never filed divorce papers. His profile said he was single. So, that's what you'll find, lots of fakes, lots of liars, lots of cheaters. I became a moderator, and it's surprising how many profiles men would make even if they were banned. You can have someone banned by their email address, which is what I did after someone was cybstalking me and still creating profiles. Just be aware, and google that person, get their last name, and make sure that person is reputable and not on any cheater websites, or the dontdatehimgirl website. That's my mistake. I should have been more cautious. After all was said and done, southern guy sent email after I had surgery (this is when he was hooking up with other unsuspecting women) to say he was just using me for sex, and that we had never dated, and that he would never date me. Yep those are the types of men on OKCupid. All losers.
Don't waste your time. If you search google with these keywords " okcupid scam " you'll invariably ascertain the truth (I couldn't help but to notice some of the claims of finding one's soulmates within some of the reviews on here and find those commenters of dubious origins at best).
I would bother to give more to this review of Okcupid but invariably if you are reading this you've already been deleted by the okcupid conmen or have experienced some other sort of problem with them. As for the few commenters on here leaving a positive review... really now? Firstly, what would be the motive to find a site to review positively about something that was over and done with once you met that soul-mate (as claimed)... or in better words; If I had a company of employees and needed to boost the victim enlistments my employees would be instructed to find one site each using google to say something good about "our" company.
Enough said. Live and learn and then go on to relate your experiences so the next generation can be spared.
P.S. Don't bother emailing okcupid or calling; hundreds have already reported that they don't respond.
Okay, so it seems like most of the girls/profiles in here are:
A) Bots. They'd send me a message along with their #, and as I greet them back, I get no response.
B) Impostors/scammers. Example: Hi, I'm looking for a guy that would cam $#*! with me and it would only cost $5.
Now, I'm not saying that I'm interested in having sex with a complete stranger just for $5. That's absolutely $#*!ed/risky and I'd go to a massage parlor for that... But then again, the real point here is. How dumb can this impostor/scammer be if he/she actually thinks anyone would fall for that. If it's real though, congratulations, you're dumb as $#*!.
C) Girls who're friendzone'd irl and has way too high standards considering the fact that they're not even good looking. No offense, but most of the girls I've searched near me are subpar looking at best. I could find better looking girls irl.
Regardless, I would say the site itself is pretty good. The layout is nice, self intro questions are short & simple as well, and the best part is that it's free.
It's a shame though because the girls in here are really mediocre.
I have been an active member of this site for a few years now, off and on. The types of guys I get most of my messages from are either husbands trying to cheat on their wives, couples in poly-friendly relationships, nerds who are very socially awk, and guys looking to apply for a green card. So, yes, I do get a lot of messages but it is not at all an ego boost! Quite the opposite actually, when I'm no longer laughing. Once in awhile, I find someone really cool that makes all the trudging through the sewage worth it. I tried a-list for 6 months, and I have to say it made the process a whole lot easier to be able to see who "likes" me. All the guys who liked me did not show up on my list of visitors, so I wouldn't have come across them otherwise. I have friends who joined and met their now-husbands within their first week on the site; however, the majority of women I know who've tried it have nothing but bad things to say about it and I can see why. Lol. There is no quality control on this site whatsoever, and as a woman you should expect to receive an overwhelming number of sexually explicit and outright creepy messages weekly if not daily. I sometimes wonder if I'm too harsh and give some guys the benefit of the doubt as a result. In rare cases I have been surprised, but for the most part not. Overall, I've had a lot of fun and got a lot of good stories out of it. If you're thinking of giving it a go, be prepared to put some time into it!
I've been on and off of here for 2 years. I filter the guys that contact me to see who's an actual match and who's just a jerk looking to get laid. I sometimes get contacted by older guys trying to find a girl with daddy issues which in my case is not the case and I'm quick to shut them down because it can get really creepy.
I went out with one guy on here for around 5 months gibsondude29 aka James Ryder aka James Butka. We didn't work out, and it became very obvious to me towards the end of the relationship. A few months after I broke up with him I found out quite by accident that he slept with one of my friends that also lives in my building and thought I wouldn't find out. She didn't know we were dating because he didn't want people to know we were dating (the only guy that has not been okay with telling people we're together and yes this was a red flag for me). Well she tends to use guys for sex and apparently receiving a taste of his own medicine didn't sit to well with him.
He keeps coming back to my campus, most recently for a radio interview. He's incredibly narcissistic, if the conversation doesn't revolve around him it's boring, and he's always right.
He did teach me to be more careful with whom I choose off this site because there are some really cool guys out there, it's just since I'm in the younger age group I have more to sift for to try to find someone that I'm compatible with. I also am posting this to anyone that may be considering dating him, and should have some perspective of someone that actually dated him for awhile.
I started to receive many message from people but I never signed up. When I tried to unsubscribe, it took me to their website that I need to sign in with my email info. WTF
My account was cancelled with absolutely no notice and for no reason. Customer service does not reply to requests for help. I seem to be out $45 for my 3-month subscription. Plan to report to BBB.
I have been on OkCupid for awhile now. I have also done eHarmony, Match, and PlentyofFish, and I have to say that I like OkCupid the best out of all of them. The reason that I like OkCupid best is because of the format of the website. I like the questions that it asks users to determine compatibility and the "sections" that it has on people's profiles. I will admit that it is hard to get women to respond to men on there, but I know that they get bombarded with messages and have to be very careful about meeting guys on there.
However, I do have one complaint. I have been on OkCupid on and off since 2010, and over the last 6 months I have had a harder time finding new profiles of women who I want to message. Maybe new membership has declined, but it seems to me that the website's search function is messed up. I most notice this when I search for users who are new to the website. It seems that the search results more frequently yield profiles that I have already seen. I am curious if anyone else has had this experience.
Well, I was very unsure at first of OKCupid because I had such bad luck with POF and a few other dating sites, so I went in thinking "If this doesnt't work, I am done with the whole online dating thing". Thank God I gave it a try 2 weeks in I met my husband (which was an 84% match on OKC). I love this site because it didnt force me to stay 25miles within my zipcode (who says LOVE is in your hometown lol). I lived in Indiana and my husband was from NY. The key to this site is honesty and realism. If you answer every question w/o fear of what the person reading might think of you and the other person does the same, you end of meeting some great matches! Never in a million years did I think I would find my other half on a dating site but I did and I thank the Lord I took a chance :)
IMHO it can't compete with Mingle2day or Match but I think it is always a nice option to use. I discovered some fake profiles but generally speaking it seems to be a legit dating site.
Answer: It's good only if you absolutely feel the need to burn your money and time! Seriously speaking, don't repeat my mistake! I had wasted plenty of time and emotions there trying to find a gem among rubbish. Just go to a decent and efficient site with good reputation and you will have plenty of choice there as long as you are a normal and adequate person. I'm using https://j4l.com/402007 And I'm content with it. I found several ladies that I really like, I had meetings with them and now its the time to choose for me!
Answer: OLC is so so... Most of the woman are in dream land and seeking Mr USA. And are not going to meet you in person 95% of the time... You really need to weed out the B. S & players... And that is simple to do... If they can't meet you in person in public with in one week. Drop them... Don't waste your time... Next!
Answer: Terri - this is what I recently sent in about OKC. I will answer your specific questions at the end of this. I have heard many complaints about OKC and scammers. But I AM NOT HAVING ANYWHERE NEAR THE PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. I am on several sites, and I experience about the same % of scammers on all. 1) it is so easy to spot a scanner - he wants to use email or text/phone right away. Is this really a problem? I immediately block. 2) if he is in Africa or any other 3rd world nation, I immediately block. I filter my messages so that I do not receive messages from anyone who has answered less than 100 questions or is at least an 85% match. Scammers are so obvious. Also, I note that most scammers claim to be "god-fearing christians," or "looking for an LTR or marriage." I am an atheist and very liberal and state this in my profile and my questions. I know what I am about to say is very offputting, snobbish, elite, etc., but I don't think scammers hit atheist, well-educated, and skeptical people as much as they do others (christians). Sorry, but I did say you wouldn't like that. Scammers are on every site. I have been following the sites and the complaints about scammers. My conclusion, based on my experience, blogs, and LOTS of research, indicate that every site has about the same amount of scammers. Sites that provide almost 0% info on potential matches (Zoosk, POF, tagged, Chemistry, Match, ourtime, etc. - all worthless for matching, IMO) do NOT have fewer scammer than OKC. I am also a moderator on OKC. WORD: Do a GIS on every picture on every profile on every site. It will tell you if the pics were stolen from a commercial source (models, actors, etc.) or not. I have had a ton (sometimes 3/week) of dates from OKC, and I do not believe any of these guys were scammers. Finally, if you know how to spot a scammer, what difference does it make how many there are on any site? I am 59. Yes, I have many very young men contacting me. I just say "You are too young, but thank you for your interest." If they reply, I block. As I stated, I've met tons of great guys (and of course, creeps) and had a lot of dates. I have a lot of correspondence before the date, and make it clear that I am looking for LTR and NOT FWB, NSA (what a load of crap). I have not clicked with anyone yet; but the, I am an atheist, free-thinker, liberal in Texas. Not a lot of guys hit on me (after 18 months on OKC, I only get about 8 guys/week hitting on me. Check my profile: I'm not gorgeous (LIB75002) or email me: joannar75002@gmail.com). I will be happy to help you further, if requested.
Answer: If you use care and caution it's safe. Women are subjected to more weirdos but you can block them. Spammers are going to get through and they will usually ask for your email or phone number. If someone interests you message a lot before you meet and always meet in a public place. If someone insists on more than you're comfortable with move on.
Answer: You have to understand on clear thing: THIS SITE IS A 2 IN 1 DEAL. People are vetted based upon: 1) their overall attractiveness + 2) their ability to PULL IN MORE USERS I have found an UNDERGROUND OKC and have made some friends in that with my last account, but then admin began asking me strange questions about my experiences there that sounded alot less like SITE PATROLLING and a lot more like I WAS FOUND OUT AS A NON INSIDER among that group. I have a running list of accounts that are "sponsored" by the site. I was among the very first to report that okc was OWNED BY MATCH.COM to be used as its social outlet site. HOWEVER AS OF 2 DAYS AGO A MUCH BIGGER ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE: Match.com BOUGHT POF /Plenty of Fish and has bought into /partnered with TINDER. By years end ALSO be on lookout for Ashley Madison to be brought into the fold. WHY ALL THIS: to cut radically the price of the investment & upkeep of all those lab created profiles. BY overlapping data bases and also ADMIN STAFF... The operating costs should have al least a 40% reduction which means 40% more profit. Just so you know Toni, look up Passionate Composer. I will write you back. REAL PEOPLE DO THIS. You may like the profile too. I was among the first to take advantage of the social site move.
Answer: Yes, I have had this happen a lot. People just want your phone number because they don't want to use the site. Then they want to ask questions like where you are from. I guess so they can research you. I am real leery about giving out my email and phone numbers. All kinds of scammers out there.
Answer: Yes, it is completely free... You pay for the more advanced features, but over the last ten years or so, I have met my last 6 lovers through the site ( though oftentimes it turns out that we already knew the same people... The matching algorithms are simply_that_ *good*!) and have never given them a single penny. ( though honestly, I really should, if only out of gratitude!) Give it a try, it really is head and shoulders above the rest of the sites out there...!
Answer: Not really, before Okcupid went full on liberal wasteland they used to release their numbers/stats and it was never bad to begin with. I believe it was like 60/40 depending on how you set up your searches. In my state it was close to 50/50.
OkCupid has a rating of 1.9 stars from 648 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with OkCupid most frequently mention fake profiles, customer service and phone number. OkCupid ranks 644th among Dating sites.
