For the most part, a great place to share neighborhood information, get helpful hints, and stay in touch with neighbors. You get a grouchy comment every now and then, but for the most part good old fashioned neighborly chat.
Many post's on who to call for all manner of wildlife to be eradicated, Constant post's about bullying the homeless from city property. Law enforcement are worshiped on this site, police are sacrosanct hero's where you will be attacked and reported if you comment on civil rights violations or lack of response in Uvalde. I was kicked off the site for pointing out the failures of Uvalde. Lot's of blatant racism lots of ring videos posted of "stranger" in neighborhood invariably they are black and actually live in the neighborhood. Lots of conspiracy theories and misinformation that some of the mods agree with it so they dont apply the rules. The place is kind of like taking a step back into mindset of the 1960's
I have also opted out of all mail now as it was weekly, my choice, on streetlife and now it is daily or nothing. No point in staying on as streetlife had a wider local area and that meant I was able to help and be helped by a wider group of people. Too much emphasis is on getting local business to target ads and I have more than enough spam I don't what or need any more. Having read these reviews, done a considerable amount of research, 4 hours today solely on this item that has made me decide I will leave, pity streetlife (streetbook limited) has gone and I will delete all my details from there as well if I can, so they aren't passed on again.
Who runs this site? If you are a conservative you cant even have an opinion on the weather! If it doesnt jive with the other left wing nuts you; re account gets spanked for 33 days! You disagree they report you as a bully or a narcissist. Can you imagine being labeled a bully for an opinion? If someone doesn't like you're name they report it as Fake. In the mean time there are names and addresses on there that are non existent! I have lost my account so many times its unreal. Id love to see this site just crash. Its dangerous and whats more dangerous is some people cannot make an account with out their actual address showing! While others have fictitious addresses and are allowed to skate! In today's crazy world these wackos should not be able to see where you live other then the community you're in, which is way more then enough!
In our area, Nextdoor has been hijacked by the crazies, including anti-vaxxers, out of the mainstream political types, and chronic complainers. Very little useful information of discussion occurs. The moderators do not seem to be able to handle (or do not want to) the covid misinformation being posted. Very poor.
I moved and had to verify I had moved via phone number. I verified two different phone numbers and both were successful, but they still wouldn't consider my account to be verified. They have no way to contact them except through a form that makes you include a picture attachment before you can contact them! Why? I went through the hassle of all of that, and then it sent me some answers that had nothing to do with my issue. It asked if they helped, I said no, and then it said they would email me. A day or two later I get an email saying my question was closed and they "hoped I got the answer I was looking for." What answer? They never even contacted me or did anything to help. It ensured me though, I could always ask a new question. Cool, I can ask the same question, attach another image, get the same stock responses that resolve nothing, then an email telling me how great they are for helping me and telling me to basically f*** off. Why bother? I proceeded to delete my account.
I could accept the censorship if every one was censored the same, that is definitely NOT the case! One of my leads was/is a cop with a beef with our board of directors and him and his group complain and complain and complain about the unfair treatment of our new board. I pointed out some issues I had with our cop lead and his failure to follow the same rules as a lead as well as a police officer. I emailed the information and I discussed it briefly in a post. I was kicked off and informed that the site was not designed for that type of format. The cop's favored "groupies" remain and continue making unproven accusations about our board members. So it is not the concept of the guidelines or the censorship I have a problem with, It is reading the posts that are similar in content that remain. DON'T BOTHER!
I have enjoyed wonderful successes with Next Door-meeting people, buying items, giving and receiving advise, referrals. But theres always a down side to everything and the down side is the intolerance by our neighbors to differing opinions followed by the incredible rudeness as the issue is hashed out.
I agree with all the concerns about Next Door especially the privacy ones. I deactivated that account as soon as I realised what was happening. From this forum and another one I discovered: https://www.kahuti.com/ which looks very similar to Streetlife and only asks for your area to locate you in the right place. Nothing else displayed and you can choose how wide your neighbourhood is. Already found locals and Streelife refugees on there. Looks like the place to be!
I have been on this site for 3 years and posted maybe 3 times! I made a very valid post about terrible dog owners walking their out of control dogs, I was attacked by 3 people ruthlessly and I defended myself keeping my cool. I might add, I have 25 people like my post. I was called a Bigiot, Bully, said I slandered people and, was told to move. My post was up for two days and somehow they closed my account and refuse to open it back up. I regret ever signing up for this terrible platform. Thanks for nothing
I like using nextdoor app very much because it makes me feel a strong sense of community. I like to read what is happening in the neighborhood and use the used item market to buy and sell. Two things I think nextdoor can do better are:
1. Customizable news notification so I can choose what type of news and which neighborhood news I can receive. I feel I am receiving too many emailnotification from my neighbourhood on nextdoor about everything but meanwhile I can't access certain news happening in nearby neighborhoods.
2. The market needs serious improvement. The pictures uploading is a main issue. I wish I can choose the order of pictures being shown and especially care which one to be shown as the front listing picture. However, the system seems to arrange them randomly. And recently, if you ever need to edit your item, after the editing is done, all the pictures are gone. That may explain why so many listings are missing pictures.
I absolutely detest this website and the people who run it.
I was able to get a promotional discount for my neighborhood from Ring.com - $25 off.
Every time I posted they would take it down as spam.
I contacted the corporate office and explained that I was not in business and receiving no $ or product. I was trying to get more people to be able to afford a great security item that can be used to file a police report.
Instead of "looking into it" I was sent an e-mail telling me it was a very "spammy" sounding post and they did not want people to feel they were being spammed - BY 1 POST? Come on folks.
Worthless website filled with sniveling people with very small minds.
The worst part about Next Door is they play the role of a therapist in these groups whether they admit it or not. They monitor every word written and act on them as a therapist would act in a therapy group, the problem is there are not trained people working at Next Door. Even their CEO and founder has ZERO credentials. As far as I'm concerned that are as unethical a group a people as I've ever witnessed.
I was on nextdoor and learned that Nextdoor is owned by an Indian. It's also India that is the source of many highly sophisticated hacks! The hacks often come through as an alert from your bank, something that involves one of your accounts, that has an unusually large charge. "If this isn't your charge please contact us immediately". They want you to contact them, slowly divulge your information, close your account and deposit it in Bitcoin or another account. They look soooooo real! DELETE THEM! Stay off of Nextdoor because it's easy to get details about you. When I tried to warn people in my neighborhood Nextdoor IMMEDIATELY banned me! If it wasn't true they would have argued the accusation.
Next Door Anti Racist Page has a very racist policy. Blue lives matter support allowed only if there is no perceived derogatory coments against BLM. No "white lives matter" support alowed to be expressed under any surcumstance. Complete support for BLM. Wow. That's the most racist anti-racist policy I've seen. George Soros making $$ contributions to "NextDoor" too?
Don't sign up. They sent a sh*t load of spams everyday. You can't unsubscribe from a single click. You have to sign in, and disable every single type of to notifications and there are more than 30 types of notifications. Worst website ever in terms of spam emails.
I tried to have an open discussion dialogue with my "neighbors" and myself and my husbsnd were continually called namesand our character attacked. When I responded I was reported and nlocked from posting but they did me the favor of allowing me to still view posts... When I replied to Nextdoor to let them know that they should read the entire posts where we were attacked, cursed, etc. I received a message advising they would review but would not share the results with me.
These people are still posting and I am still blocked... This site is a joke. They pick and choose who they remove. Its funny that it appears to be based off of race. When black people defend themselves we are "angry" and need to be blocked. Meanwhile the white people that called us "$#*!ty human beings" and talking badly about our kids arr not... apparently thats ok... DO NOT USE NEXTDOOR!
Nextdoor is discriminatory, censorious and authoritarian against any views or opinions other than socialist, leftist, woke or pro-Democratic Party views or opinions.
Neighbors who post views or comments which reflect socialist, leftist, extreme or pro-Democratic Party views are allowed to do so, and are allowed to be shockingly rude, disrespectful and obnoxious to people posting opposing or dissenting viewpoints. People who post views or comments of a conservative, libertarian, capitalist, Republican or even of a moderate, traditional liberal nature, in a polite and respectful manner, often are suspended, without notice or explanation, by unnamed "local moderators."
There is no appeal process; there is no way to challenge a suspension or a ban; there is no way to understand specifically the reason for which one is suspended or banned.
Nextdoor is an Orwellian technology platform. The operation and management of Nextdoor is right out of the totalitarian playbook.
During a discussion of missing cats, someone from a nearby neighborhood stated that maybe these cats were the ones who had gone through her yard. I questioned her on what she meant and she said that "people sometimes trap and poison cats because they don't like them pooping in their yard". I did make multiple posts trying to get her to state what she knew about people killing cats, ad this is illegal in Indiana, and needed to be turned over to law enforcement. She then stated she felt I was "bullying" her and reported me to Nextdoor, who banned me for "overposting" and not being "neighborly". Now I am not able to contact anyone through Nextdoor to tell them that people in this neighborhood are talking about people killing and poisoning pets. Yes, I have screenshots.
I guess I was suspended for public shaming by asking dog walkers to pick up their dogs feces from my yard. I did not use any names. I wouldn't know I was suspended since I was never informed of it. I just couldn't sign in and no one in my family could open an account using our address. BUT it is ok for people to tear down a local grocer (by name), a town official (by name) and to post pictures of supposed stalkers on foot and in cars. All those posts remained up.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
