If your just using it for garage sales, it's great. If your wanting to criticize almost anything and ask questions about issues people face you are hit with pop ups pushing you to follow the narrative of the site rather than question real facts or supposed questionable links to unfavored websites
If one posts, or contributes to another's post, You run the risk of being trolled and harassed on Nextdoor.com. I would consider Nextdoor.com the most unfriendly, unsafe site online right now. The trump cult has taken this site over. Their intention is to create distention, which they definitely do. There are few if any leads/monitors on Nextdoor, so don't expect anyone stopping the viral attacks. On Nextdoor.com anyone can get away with anything pretty much. I would stay far from this site. Nextdoor.com is NOT safe!
I am the owner of a local business. I tried Nextdoor's advertisement. Even after confirming that I do have a legit company, I do not have access to see clients post or have interaction with them at all. It says that my ads have hits but have not had any hits on my website from Nextdoor which is strange considering my website is all over my ads. This makes me believe that I am getting inaccurate reports of how many people are actually seeing my ads. Nextdoor is not user friendly. You will not be able to reach any support.
Our Point Venture, Texas neighborhood lead Janice Cox has been a nazi about anyone promoting anything in our community website yet she gets to promote her website, members have complained to Nextdoor.com many times about her conflict of interest and abuse of her position but they don't care, luckily most of the neighbors think Nextdoor is a joke and dont take anything they see posted on ND seriously but come on! You can see pictures of her promotion at www.pointventure.co (not dot com) Gotta love small town news!
I posted a response to someone who felt that calling the coronavirus "Chinese" was racist. I said I did not believe it anymore than I would believe calling German Measles was anti-German or Avian Flu meant one was against birds. I also pointed out that all the media had reported the virus as being Wuhan, Chinese, etc., and then had backtracked when they were accused of racism. She said they realized they made a mistake. I said no, they did not make a "mistake", but knuckled under to political correctness. She reported me and next-door removed my post along with a link to their community guidelines. This is the epitome of nonsense. I left the site altogether.
I tried to stay on Nexdoor but after about 4 months I had to let it go. Some of the leads in our neighborhood think they are Gods or something and try to control valid and legitimate conversations. Sometimes my posts would get deleted for no reason due to one leads constant trolling of my posts, none of which violated any stupid community standard - whatever that is. I'll stick to talking to my neighbors in person. Don't use this app. It is worthless.
Biased "neighbor reviews". Not easy to use. Info can be planted by friends and family of businesses. Really controlled with military rigidity by a bunch of CA computer geeks. Not really a friendly and neighborly website. Website control encourages users to spy on and secretly report other "neighbors" for trivial violations of the california nerd policies. They claimed that my ID was false, supposedly reported by a "neighbor". They would not believe me, but believed the false report of a secret unknown "spy". Too many problems with website management and control by web. Not the real neighborhood. Next door is not good at all. There are lots of other better ways to meet and connect with real neighbors. Terrible!
SO much is filtered by the leads. While I was a lead on the site I kept a standard of keeping all information posted. Within 24 hours of my resignation not only were posts deleted from the boards, but other leads were removed as lead so that full control could be had by a group of friends. I no longer feel safe on this site.
At first, it was nice. I used Nextdoor to report found animals and try to find owners. We have a new neighbor who is a bully (points guns at people for parking on the street), lets his dog cry all hours of the night, and his yard is filthy.
He and his wife have used Nextdoor to literally harass people out of the area. I had one neighbor evicted by the city after this couple literally found people to harass them on Nextdoor. Apparently, now it's my turn. I'm being told to move. After 20 years in my house and many years as a community activist, it is NOT going to happen.
I'll stop posting on this site and hope it dies a nice quiet death. As for the neighbor, I'm going to stop deleting the crap I catch him doing on video so I have it for the police.
Anyone who doesn't agree with you can flag your comment and get you banned. Anyone who wants to harass you can do so by looking up your name and neighborhood (ask me how I know). If you use a made up last name, NextDoor just disables your account without any way of reinstating it. No help, no customer service, no explanation of any kind. Horrible.
I have been on this listserve for several years and am mostly happy with the content. I've learned so much from my neighbors who generously share their experiences, concerns and referrals. The referrals alone are worth the time to be involved. And I love how everyone goes above and beyond to help the many lost and found animals. Every once in a while someone gets hostile, but usually the group responses will help tone things down. I applaud the listserve organizers for helping to make this such a helpful and easy way to stay connected.
This experience is not only personal to me but is a composite f many others who have been "cancelled" by Next Door. When a post that does not meet their approval is removed a non-descript (Something Happened) statement comes up).No Reason given or expected. Often entire threads are removed especially when the conversation is about The Homeless Issue, Price gouging by PGE, The ineptitude of the current administration.
This censorship has become more and more pervasive and oppressive. Next Door is a corporation for profit as often threads are interrupted with ads...it is insensitive to community concerns and seems to have an agenda which does not allow for discourse between Neighbors.Censorship is its Main Concern.
Even with all the available tools at one's disposal, it's amazing how cumbersome an application & its related website performs. Even questions submitted on search engines don't help. Trying to simply identify new potential neighborhoods from the application is a dead end. On top of that, attempting to log in through a browser, my PW fails & resetting the application locks me out of my smart device application. Get it together, folks. It appears this is becoming another captive marketing site. No wonder I use it less & less, due to frustrating tools & capabilities.
My account in Crestview Fl was permanently disabled. I merely suggested that all the numerous Bible quoters-walk their talk not just talk it and I got permanently terminated. They are affiliated with FaceBook you're being watched and data stored about you.
I received an invitation to join nextdoor.com by letter, thinking it was a local community offer (it's gloabal)
I wish I had done research on it before joining, the T&C are a security risk for anyone's identity.
I'd love to know why and how they lettered me and where they got the information from.
You need to supply, real name, address, telephone number, email address. D. O. B and all has to be verified by the site.
I posted something about warning about others to be careful about an incident that occurred. People are against it. Support on not being safe on the street. My post got removed. I feel like a lot of people that are on that website live in a fantasy one way world and not the reality!
You can't post on what you want to post because of others disagreements or bothered can report you. It's pretty much you vs people at nextdoor.com. Pointless. Not recommending to anyone. Stick to other social media or websites!
By subscribing to Nextdoor I am made aware of events occurring in my community and kept up to date with city announcements such as road closures, police activities, public safety announcements as well as recommendations from neighbors from doctors to contractors.
I think it's been a real help finding local independent contractors for house repairs and auto mechanic suggestions. But it can be very charged for politics or having opinions that aren't mainstream. Great place for recommendations. Not so easy to use for finding like minded community connections or unbiased help, should you require it.
At first I found it useful but then I moved into another area of town and it seemed like a different place. The parole officer mentality over my postings that are respectful, sympathetic, somehow set some people off with too much time on their hands. And they snitch on you! It's a mean, petty, snotty place to be. You had to be part of the clique to have a response recognized. I never felt welcomed. I am sick of the lost dogs day after day which is all it exists for. Other than that I have found a few reliable contractors. I plan to ditch it and stick with Home Advisor. It has served its purpose in making some SF app gurus wealthy so it has served its purpose.
Most of the postings are about pets, and thats fine, but of the 7 neighbor recs I used, for 3 types of business, I received only 2 call backs. One did 1/3 of the job and went mia. I did receive a great rec for Layman Lawn and Landscape though. They did really well on their 1st visit.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
