I've found Nextdoor to be super helpful keeping me abreast of what's happening in our neighborhood, as well as a trusted source for solutions when something comes up that I need help or advice with. I'm reminded of what neighborhoods are meant to be and I appreciate how everyone responds and supports one another.
Since when does Nextdoor not allow neighbors to post "Immediate Release" information from the ACLU relevant to events happening in our community? Isn't civil rights a neighborhood's right to know?
I was attacked from so many for "trying to incite violence"... etc. I don't see how a Immediate Release report is considered inciting violence.
Unfortunately there's no zero stars to give. Awful experience with obnoxiously rude comments and calling names from "neighbors" who obviously didn't even bother to read the entire post. It's a perfect platform for trolls since there's no moderation.
Don't you dare to report and post an insulting message that a "neighbor" sent you cowardly "in private" on this crappy and useless website; they will deactivate your account and ask you to comply with some of the strangest guidelines. Many of my friends warned me not to join this site and I should have listened. It doesn't help that, according to Wikipedia, the site has been accused of racial profiling on numerous accounts. Stay away. By the way, their CEO in 2014 was involved in a hit-and-run... Talk about promoting neighborliness... Go figure.
Nextdoor is a must for all communities. It helps keep you connected to your neighbors and the pulse of the community. Members help each other in many ways by sharing resources, ideas, and great companies that provide services. Also helps keep neighborhoods safe with many eyes on what's happening.
While our Board tries to create community harmony (and is doing an excellent job), the self appointed Lead continues to allude to the fact that there are shady dealings going on. This woman, (who has since sold and moved), appointed a close cohort to be lead but she still remains as lead as well. Despite numerous emails (and not just from me) to those in charge of Nextdoor, nothing is done and she continues to reign supreme over our neighborhood. She never attends community events or HOA meetings. I have been deactivated twice now and won't return since I find the site useless. (We get email blasts from our Board to keep us updated). Question? How can we get Nextdoor to shut down?
With Nabo closing down in Australia and recommending Nextdoor instead, I decided to create an account. I'd been an early adopter on Nabo and a suburb lead (member for over 3 years), read the guidelines closely and and posted a friendly introduction. When the only responses were nasty ones from 3 men, I figured I would just be wasting my time engaging there any more. I tried to delete my account, but I can't - I can only "deactivate" it. So Nextdoor gets to keep my data forever. Joy. I should have googled reviews *first*, as so many other negative reviews here all echo the same sentiments: how nasty it is. That was certainly my experience - and I only lasted a few hours before I decided to leave!
Yes, all of those reviews about complaining neighbors, bullies, and corrupt moderators are true. That is the society we live in. Some of your and my neighbors are bigots, socialists, evangelicals, liberals... you name it. Most are just really nice people who want to get to know each other. But since I joined a year ago, everything is getting censored. You can't talk about anything except who is the best plumber and have you seen my lost dog. That stuff is fine, but don't people talk about anything else? It's like living in Stepford Connecticut. A recent post about Lady Gaga's dogs being kidnapped was censored. "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." This site is for small, mind-controlled people.
Here we go again. Hadn't received anything from next door in quite a while, was kind of hoping they'd been driven out of business. But received one of their idiotic form letters from my "neighbor Holly Smith on Jackson" telling me how over 800 of my neighbors had already joined. I bet there's a Holly Smith in everyone's neighborhood singing the praises of next door. I tore that pos letter into pieces before tossing it in the recycling bin. Gawd what a scam it is. You've been warned, steer clear of it. You'll be sorry if you ever do join, you'll never be allowed to leave.
Through Nextdoor and with neighbors recommendations we've found our painter, pet sitters, cleaning crew (probably even more but I can't remember) plus we've sold and given away many items, and joined a Bunco group resulting in new great friends! Plus it's a great tool to keep up with what's happening in the area.
Unfortunately some folks can be overly sarcastic and opinionated of other's posts.
I'm retired and donate much of my time volunteering in the aesthetic preservation of my city. I also use various social media to expose those who violate city and state ordinances! And unsurprisingly, I'm often wrongly accused by those who violate said ordinances, via their reciprocal posts! Unfortunately, its been my experience for "NextDoor" to react in haste, and without investigation or confirmation of others reciprocal claims. They also frequently rush to judgement and accuse members like myself of violating "NextDoor" policies without themselves having an understanding of the scope of these requirements! Thus, their ineptitude and illiteracy is of similar competence to that of the police who arrested George Floyd! Though we can at least be thankful NextDoor moderators are not provided handcuff's, tasers and firearms!
Next door is ok for a lost pet. Of course if you love your pet why lose them so often? I have tried to assist new TN folks who have relocated her from various other states and have alway been kind. I could get a bit sarcastic if someone eas just being mean. But, OMG if it was it 2 self proclaimed democrats that stalked, bullied, and was so hateful. This behavior got me to stop that social media. When folks get by with this behavior it just divides us more and bring on discord. And these folks were from another local city.
I was threatened by a man on Nextdoor. He actually threatened to come to my home. They did NOTHING. I asked them, begged them to come to my aid + call the authorities, as I didn't know his address or even his real name. They did NOTHING. I now have to live in fear of a strange man coming to my home, and no one wants to hear it. They never help until it's too late. Please take my advice + steer well clear of this horrible, horrible site. It is NOT about the neighborhood. At all.
Extreme right political groups in our community have made Nextdoor part of their strategy. They have strategically taken over lead positions. They post misinformation and they turn on anyone who disagrees, even civilly, with ad hominem attacks. The group has a beef with apartments being built in our neighborhood, and as a result they've posted announcements of public meetings on Nextdoor with instructions on how to post so that apartment dwellers can't see the announcements. Disgusting. I love the concept of Nextdoor and I'm not sure how the company should fight back. But I've deleted my account because it became so intolerable.
If you dont fall in line with their moderators from out of state, they will ban or suspend you for no reason other then responding to others questions, civilly. This is no different then facebook now. It has nothing to do with "community", merely leftist propaganda. This is the bed they made, now they have to lie in it as this platform fails.
Untrained biased leads control. Leads will remove other leads that don't vote the right way when reports on content are made. Reporting a lead that continually soapboxes his position with misinformation results in being banned from NextDoor.
I joined this group to keep abreast of happenings in our community. What I didn't realize at the time is that it Nextdoor.com is run locally by cliques of right wing people, mostly stay at home women. They let their friends post anything they like, then they censor others who aren't their buddies. They claim you have "violated community rules" and when you ask what those rules specially say, they respond they are "open to interpretation" Stay away from this useless site unless you join cliques easily, and are willing to be subjected to the censorship Nazis that are the neighborhood "leads" Besides it is mostly lost dog and cat postings, or people freaking out about "suspicious activity" Not worth your time at all.
Don't tell them not to call the police on folks for petty issues or tell them that they're showing their privilege. You'll get banned.
All while they profile their neighbors as criminals for "looking scruffy", call the cops on kids walking too close to their lawns, and asking for snake removal for snake skin.
Racism runs rampant and anyone who says anything about it is reported en masse by a bunch of uncomfortable angry old white folks. The volunteer admin system is a joke. It's an excuse not to run the app like any other site with admin support.
I like the local-ness of Nextdoor as a social app. It can be tailored for just your neighborhood or expanded to surrounding neighborhoods. Great method to communicate with local friends and neighbors with whats important to them.
I have been receiving next door emails for years and yet when I tried to log back in, they are saying they don't recognize my email...duhhh. Fix your ridiculously stupid app or say goodbye to another customer.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
Nextdoor has a rating of 1.9 stars from 3,047 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 503rd among Social Network sites.
