I bought a signed Joe Montana football and then I returned it in the mail and the mail people lost it or something and I showed macari the receipts and when it left I showed them everything and they still made me pay like I think it was like $200 for the football after I sent it back and they person said they never got it so yeah you pretty much get ripped out there
They charged me a $2 processing fee for a $5 sale so I make a $3 profit. So not even worth it. That's a ridiculous thing to do. Even Poshmark doesn't do that

I am selling my old toys and this one girl lied about not getting her package and cancelled after she got it. She reported me and got my account banned.
Mercari claims that it acts as an arbiter between the sellers and buyers. I initiated a return with Mercari because I received a 1.0 oz product when the main Mercari ad page shows a 1.7 oz product, so I wanted to return the product. Mercari claims that the seller is in the right (and thus I am wrong and not allowed to return the item) because even though the seller posted the 1.7 oz product on the main page, the seller also posted a 1.0 oz product in the 2nd and 3rd listed pictures, and thus the seller properly described the item in question, which is the most insane ruling / arbitration I have ever heard, as this is obviously a case of false advertising. Anyways, it cycled through 4 different Mercari agents, with multiple correspondences with each agent, each one informing me that I am not allowed to return the product because the seller did show the 1.0 oz product in the 2nd and 3rd picture, nevermind this does not match the 1.7 oz product the seller displayed on the 1st picture in the main ad. I was getting nowhere day after day with the Mercari agents, until I posted them the laws regarding false advertising, at which point, the 4th agent says the initially ruling is wrong, and thus I would be given store credit. Well anyways, this process took hours and at least a dozen correspondences, thus as I have said, if you wish to do business with Mercari, assume you will waste a lot of time if anything goes wrong, as this seems to be Mercari's main modus operandi, which is to wear down the buyers because the sum is not worth the time being wasted.
I never write reviews, but feel compelled to do so. I signed up for Mercari to purchase what looked like a good deal. Well the seller never shipped and I was refunded. I then tried to purchase 2 cell phones on Mercari, but one was a scammer who cancelled bc he wanted payment via Cashapp (not PP where it's secured) and the other mislabeled the item and we mutually cancelled. Well when I finally found a legit seller on Mercari, Mercari suspended my account for suspicious activity without any explanation. I have reached out to support and they have been very inconsiderate to me. All I wanted to do was purchase a good deal with my PayPal account that is very secure. I even sent documentation to Mercari but they said they can't accept it, because it is expired. Now they won't work with me nor explain why they suspended my account. Yet they allow people to sell with ads stating cash app and other sketchy things. I am livid by this. No other selling company has ever harassed or denied me before. None. This is the worst customer support system ever.
I sold a handbag to a lady and she did not like the color once she received it. They refunded her money and I am out the shipping of priority mail. Item was listed exactly like it was.

Not one item that I've promptly paid for shipped, and even one that canceled, the seller didn't refund monies. I'm not sure what is going on but I only once have I ever written a poor review; I tend to simply not comment and then cease doing business with that person/company. In this case, I am most disturbed because there are too many unsuspecting other people out there who will also suffer if we don't draw attention to this site! I wanted to sell on it, but now have serious doubts.
IF BY ANY CHANCE, restitution is made and my items arrive, I will happily post a different point of view. Right now, it's been weeks since I placed orders and nada... on either side, except I'm out of my money paid.
Also be aware, that sellers don't seem to reply in any way, Mercari gives you an auto reply and only time will tell if they say anything, from anyone working there. This is why places like Amazon and PayPal make so much sense, as you can speak with a live person who holds their practices and employees accountable.

Mercari will rip you off so fast it will make your head spin. They sent me an e-mail that they had closed my account because I had "violated their terms of service,,,". I have asked repeatedly for their proof that I had done that, and they said I had more than one account. I do not have more than one account, and I asked them to show me proof that I had more than one account. Was it in my name, did the bank account that was connected to the account have my name on it, what proof did they have? There was never an answer to those questions, just a lot of repetition of the "your account has been closed because you have violated the terms of service." I had a lot of difficulty getting my last bit of money transferred to my bank account, and right after I got it transferred is when they started the business of telling me that my account was closed and was gonna stay closed. Don't use Mercari -- you can buy from sellers on there, but if you want to sell online, there are plenty of other places to use.
This is the worst company around. This is Ebay for crack heads. They will nickle and dime you for everything. Customer Service is even worse. No one knows anything and cannot give you any information nor even attempt to help you.

You have to wait for the buyer to receive the item and rate you as a seller. Then you wait to rate the buyer. Then the money goes onto your Mercari account. Then you have to transfer the money by Direct Deposit which could take up to 10 days, or you could do an instant but you will get charged for that. Once you request the Direct Deposit they ask for a photo ID which takes 4 days to verify.
So in the end here is what you will experience and do not believe any other review that states otherwise.
Post your item wait 1+ days to sell it.
Once sold ship it 5+ days
Wait for buyer feedback 1+ days
Rate the buyer 0 days
Request direct deposit of YOUR OWN MONEY 4 to 15 days.
1 sell could take up to a Month before you see your money. So in the end No Product, No Money for a month with no support, and ZERO liability by Mercari.
I have been buying and selling on this site for 3 years, mostly buying, having a couple items for sale here and there. Anyway, I was on vacation and my package came a couple days before I returned. I opened the package and it was the wrong item. So the seller gave me her number claiming she lost the items. Whatever, so I opened a claim to let Mercari know this so I could get a return label and send it back. Mercari then charged me before I could get a response. So I disputed the charge with my bank and Mercari suspended my account...
I then had to close the claim out when the seller sent me the correct item. They took 2 weeks to resolve this. Then the seller sent me the wrong item again and I opened another claim as soon as I received the item. The app is faulty so every time I tried to send the messages on the claim, it kept giving me an error message... Mercari got back to me and said sorry to hear but you received the item so we had to release the funds to the seller!
Then they restricted my account again! This is so wrong of them and they shouldn't be in business.
They should be sued.
I purchased a gold necklace stamped 999 turned out to be fake gold; I sent it back to seller per Mercari USPS seller refused to accept the return; USPS sent box back to me and Mercari charged my Paypal account $909. I disputed with paypal and Mercari refused to give me a refund even after sending them copys of the tracking with USPS notes no one accepting/unable to forward plus photos of the USPS sticker on box unable to forward return to sender (me)
Since their system won't let me write a review for a bad seller, I will rate Mercari as a bad seller. I bought something from a seller and he told me he didn't realize due to the size of the item, it would cost more to ship so he decided to "sell it to someone local". I then offered him $10 above the asking price for it and that I would pay the supposed $55.00 shipping charge and he still cancelled. He has 5 cancels out of 10 sales. Since the item wasn't "sold" to me it won't let me leave feedback! Mercari should look into this. There is something wrong with this. So now I am penalized by having to wait between 5 and 10 days to get my money back in my account. They sent me email with this in it."We work hard to prevent cancellations and protect the marketplace for everyone. Reliable sellers deliver orders as promised. Sellers with frequent cancellations will lose their marketplace privileges." So I guess 50% cancellations don't count! I think this guy gets better offers or thinks twice about selling at the price listed and cancels the order to get more money. I mean HALF of the orders cancelled? I will think more than twice before I buy again off of Mercari.
I'll never order nothing from scam of a place. Ordered two candles for my wife on 12/3/21 & it's the 29th now. Present for my wife. Never order from them again. I want a refund.
Decorating Bliss store sent me a broken house. Knowing it was broken. And I have proof. I contacted mercari customer service to report my item was damaged. I sent tons of pictures and noted that shipping was not up to par with the packing inside of box. The out come was I got a refund and the product could be disposal of my choice. So I decided to take the pieces out and glue the house back together and see what the results would be. I discovered the house was shipped out broken and did not happen with delivery. And how you might ask? Because there were lots of pieces missing. Now how could that happen unless it was shipped already broken. There was also a delay in shipping item in the first place and seller has the choice to ship even if you cancel which is what happened. Good and bad in my opinion. Good I was able to obtain a refund and Bad because this seller is not trustworthy. I will not do business with mercari after this. SO BUYER BEWARE. THIS COULD BE YOU AND THE OUTCOME COULD BE BAD.
Ive had good experiences, but the latest one was just awful and I just don't understand stupid people selling filthy shoes for top dollar. I bought some OCs, that looked pretty decent from the pictures for $70. When I received them and opened the box I was shocked and so disappointed, because I was so excited to receive them. They stunk so bad, my cats didn't want to sniff them. The box stunk so I threw it all in the garage. They looked far worse than the pictures, and it was like someone excreted on them. Thank goodness I was allowed to reject the purchase, but as I was looking for another pair, I noticed that these sellers don't try to clean up their shoes! The bottoms are black, dirt is in the cracks, etc. Why would you want to present your product in this way? The pictures I posted brightened up the insoles, they're actually filthy and black. You aren't allowed to leave a bad review if you return the product. Imo, it just allows for this to happen more frequently. You aren't getting a real portrayal of the seller. I learned to pay an extra 50 and get new ones.

The seller said she was sorry for the issue an would handle it. I did a refund request on Mercari and they refused it (even though this is a Louis Vuitton keychain and I would never have paid this much had I know it was almost dry-rotted!
Before I could even get the info back from Mercari, the seller blocked me and I can't message her OR leave her feedback.
Mercari said I could "sell it back" on the site, but why would I want to sell something that isn't in decent shape? Unacceptable! So just turn around and pass this problem to someone else?
They keep emailing me saying they are sorry but won't fix anything. If you are sorry, fix it!

My item was damaged when I received it. Mercari credited my Mercari account but didn't refund me. I want cash back not to have to buy something on Mercari.
