So it's 1:30 am on a weekend in mid-October 2013 and the internet is full of hate over yahoo mail's slow and buggy changes to their interface, and I'm one of those haters who are switching everything over to gmail and completely abandoning this nasty yahoo mail thing I've been using for so many years because I've been trying to download an attachment for hours, and their mail search function is not accepting the letters "l" and "k." What does Yahoo have against "l"s and "k"s tonight? If I want to search for other letters, and even punctuation marks like a semicolon, that's not a problem.

More importantly, at least one email that I composed and sent which was now located in the "Sent" folder had not been received after over 12 hours and a file that had been sent to me as an attachment could not be downloaded. Most media outlets are reporting this as a "user preference" issue about tabs or the interface, but a few of them are getting it right. From http://www.cnet.com.au/yahoo-mail-redesign-plagued-with-bugs-*******.htm:

"... the mail service itself is failing at its core function: as a means of sending electronic communication. Emails are failing to be delivered, arriving up to 24 hours after the original email was sent, inboxes are disappearing entirely, the "reply" function has stopped working and contacts are being deleted."

For thousands of years before the internet, humans relied on mail to do two things: send information and receive information. Yahoo Mail is failing to do what a guy on a horse with a bag full of papyrus or hides did in the ancient world.

A snarky and usually correct older relative recommended gmail to me when it came out years ago, and he switched over right away, but no! I had to stay with yahoo and trust these people when I should have listened to him. And if you knew this particular relative and my own obstinate self, you'd have some idea about the ridiculously petty pain I'll be experiencing when I have to admit to him that YES, I learned my lesson and am now switching everything over to google and I'll never trust yahoo with a damned thing again.

Insanity
July 30, 2020

This is what the Yahoo customer service center can provide you if/when your long-forgotten Yahoo email address from 2002 has been hacked and the person or persons who hacked said account begin actively using your personal information with other services (for example, sending unsolicited Amazon packages in your name to your prior address):

1. File a "ticket" with "another department."
2. Inform you that "another department" will contact you by email "probably" within 48 hours.

What Yahoo customer service cannot provide you with, while experiencing this exact issue:

1. The name of the department which is now allegedly opening an investigation.
2. A contact number for the department which is now allegedly opening an investigation.
3. An email address for the department which is now allegedly opening an investigation.
4. A temporary suspension of the account while the Yahoo Mystery Team allegedly investigates.
5. A supervisor. Unless you're willing to debate the first-line CSR for 75 minutes about the necessity of speaking to a supervisor. They almost certainly have a policy against escalating to a supervisor for which the CSR is somehow reprimanded or punished.
6. A competent supervisor (given an infinite amount of time). The supervisor cannot provide you a contact number for the department which investigates the issue. They can offer no guarantee of the time frame the Yahoo Mystery Team will contact you. Fun side note: the supervisor, who identified himself as "Melvin," actually mumbled "$#*!" on the call. Having worked in a (reputable) call center training department years ago, I can tell you that this idiot lacks even the minimal competence necessary for a first-day CSR. For a supervisor, it's a hanging offense. These calls are recorded and reviewed for quality (well, maybe not the case here, who knows). What a jackass.
7. A level-3 supervisor or manager, when it becomes apparent that the "supervisor" is an idiot who can't assist you but forgets he's on a recorded line.
8. Minimally competent assistance (at any level, at any time).
9. An apology for failing to provide minimally competent assistance when a customer experiences identity theft through a service that they provide.

So if you've long since forgotten about that Yahoo email account from 20 years ago (because obviously no one still uses their Yahoo email account... it's 2020 guys), better get on there, lock it down now and deactivate it. Yahoo's too broke to be of much help when you experience identity theft because they screwed up.

Not only are security breaches VERY often with Yahoo (making you change your password every other month is definitely not ideal to say the least), but on top of that they can't even manage to create a decen ui that they stick with for over a couple of months. But of course these are just the SMALLEST problems. When it comes down to it, Yahoo! Mail is garbage at its peak form. After not using one of my accounts for JUST UNDER 1 year, it was deleted and UNRECOVERABLE. This account had messages from deceased relatives AND business files AND financial documents that I NEEDED. Once again, not to mention the many linked accounts from other websites that were created using said *DELTED* email account. This is ridiculous. Why in the world would you delete someone's important life history over a couple gigabytes of server storage? Alas, this is still one of the least concerns of Yahoo! Mail. On top of all of those under-exaggerated issues stands yet another. Lag AND latency. Forget about sending efficient and fast emails -- even if your $1200 custom built computer can load the compose message popup in under a minute, you won't be actually sending it anytime soon. It can take up to five or ten minutes to receive and send emails, which is just ridiculous for any e-mail service in this day and age, let-alone a billion dollar institution. Overall I'd give Yahoo! Mail a negative review if I could. Absolute and utter trash and I will be transferring EVERYTHING to Gmail. Including any memberships or accounts tied to Yahoo.

P. S: They also wiped multiple other accounts of mine out with again under 90 days of inactivity. STAY AWAY FROM YAHOO!

It doesn't matter if you do not own stake in Yahoo Inc. It doesn't matter if it's only X amount of money to purchase a service that absolutely is a scam to collect even more private and personal data for them to sell later on and call it another "data breach". My password was working just fine. Suddenly I need access to a phone number that I haven't used in years or I had to call and pay for my password that I already know to access my account. Twist it whatever way you want to, this is extortion and criminal. But since our justice system cares only about dollar amounts and certainly not what truly matters. So it's ok for billion dollar companies to commit criminal acts because the criminal kept it under $10? What about incarcerating someone because they had a baggy of weed that amounted to $5-$10? This country is a $#*!ing $#*! hole
