Customer service rep assting me could NOT speak English in such a way as to make himself understood. This is an absolute must and I don't really care if it's politically incorrect to point that out. I will NEVER do business with or thru this company again. Sick of trying to get along with scammers.
I have had multiple withdraws from my Paypal account without my authorization under Mags. Com The amounts add up to 100s of dollars!
I have tried to contact them both by phone & e-mail to Close my account & refund me. They choose not to reply. I have reported them to the Ark Attorney General and am seeking people who would want to join me in a Class Action Lawsuit
I dont recall when I signed up for this. After making some online purchase, it said I could have a free subscription of the magazines, so I thought why not and chose the magazines. Did not realize it was an initial free trial followed by a subscription model. That should be in bold, not in fine print. What a scam! Called them today to cancel-hopefully it works.
If you don't cancel these jackal will take $2000 from your account each year for 3 magazines. Screen shot all interactions and phone conversations if the payments continue file for fraud with your bank.
Every subscription-oriented web site makes it easy to cancel a subscription. Why make it hard for people? They will just get more determined. I can't wait to get rid of them. No magazine is worth dealing with these people.
I decided to try several magazines at a discounted rate as a reward for filling out a survey. The promotion offered a one year subscription as a trial. The initial charge was a few dollars more than the offer, but what was worse is that they charged me to renew the subscriptions after just a few months! I was not anticipating any further charges in the first year. Total scam!
Please don't believe it. I signed up through a membership with Books-A-Million. Waited over 12 weeks for my magazines only to find out through the 800 number that my card issuer canceled the magazines. If that were the case, which I could find no record of, it meant my company deemed it a scam. If I signed up for free magazines, why did you need my card information anyway? At any rate, please don't believe Books a Million if they try to sell you this scam. Waste of time
I was charged $40 for magazines I did NOT authorize a purchase for or receive. Like others have said, I was given a "free" 1-yr subscription as a "gift" for answering some online surveys. When I called, they tried to only refund a portion of it. I argued that I did not subscribe to OR receive these supposed magazines, and I need a full refund. Eventually, the customer service agent agreed to refund the full amount within 3 days after I threatened to get my bank involved. I will be keeping a close watch to ensure they follow-through on their promise.
I only gave one star because I couldn't give none. They don't deserve any stars. I signed up for a year's subscription at a discounted price and in 3 months they took 70.00 from my bank account. Now I'm trying to get back my money and so far having no luck.
The company, through other channels, offers very low initial subscription rates and then renews subscriptions automatically well above market (100%+ markup!) -- with no price transparency!
There's no email notification and when you see a pending renewal, there is no price listed - just "renewal fee not determined yet".
E.g., National Geographic just renewed for $68 when it is $34 on the NatGeo website. Amex flagged it as fraudulent charge and I just cancelled my subscription. We'll see...
Sign up for 4 subscriptions back in February and never received not a one of them and then today I get a notification from PayPal that they are charging me. I filed a report against them with PayPal to make sure I didn't get charged and chatted with an agent at mags.com and they acted like I was receiving the services I sign up for. I made sure the subscriptions were canceled and was not being charged. Would not recommend using them for anything.
If you sign up for the $2 sample of a magazine Mags.com will autorenew your subscriptions and sign you up for related magazines without asking. Asking for a refund they gave me 1/2 of it back. I continued to complain and finally, I hope may get it all back.
I was tricked into a subscription after I asked multiple times at the FYE store if I would be automatically subscribed after 2 magazine samples. Got an email to show what magazines would be coming and that my card I used at FYE would be billed at over $60 for a continuous annual subscription. I tried to register into my account and cancel, but it would take me to an error screen. I ended up just canceling my credit card and getting it replaced with a new one with a new number. Beware of this scamming company for sure. They use very deceptive practices.
RUN fast - please complain, write review of their illegal practices - dispute! I don't know how they get information but I did not subscribe ever and they caused an overdraft on my account! Wish there was a negative star.
I tried to cancel subscriptions but the website conveniently doesn't work. You click billing and subscription, and, surprise, there's an error. You have to call and go through some difficult automated phone system. This is great for their revenue and terrible for customers.
"Tell me the name of the magazine you want to cancel." NO! Stop making it harder to unsubscribe.
They make you decline at least 2 or 3 prompts to keep subscribing for EACH subscription that are worded in a very confusing manner "you can cancel future charges and keep the magazines you've already paid for". This should be borderline illegal.
I ordered several subscriptions at a group rate ($40 total) for my mother. The company then automatically renewed all the subscriptions separately with zero notice. The money was taken from my PayPal without a chance to review, approve or renew. The rate at that time was much higher and it came to well over a hundred dollars. Magazines arrived sporadically and then not at all once an address change took place. It's been a year and they just automatically renewed again. Another $90 so far with more pending. I'm sure nothing will come and flushing money down the toilet isn't on my agenda. I checked the address and it won't update the change. So either the resin residing in my mom's old place is getting them or no one is. Either way, I'd like a partial refund. And I'd like to ensure there's no ongoing billing relationship.
This is a scam that some larger companies try to pass off as a "gift." However, they get paid to promote these magazines as a "gift." Oftentimes they convince the consumer to take a survey so they can collect extremely valuable consumer data, or to appease an upset customer.
This "gift" has a cost, though, and you will not even be capable of realizing for a whole year. This is assuming you pay close attention to your bank statements. Mags. Com hopes you will not notice and is how they keep most of their "customers."
Assuming you notice the charges, it's very difficult to figure out who to even contact about all these surprise lifetime automatic renewal magazine subscriptions. Once you track down who is charging you, you will have a very hard time cancelling. They cover themselves with all kinds of fine print BS.
This should not be allowed, but I guess scammers are gonna scam.
Mags.com does not cancel your subscription ever. Makes it difficult to track or contact them.
Very sleazy and lucrative sign up - through air miles or other tactics and then they are leaches.
Avoid them and do yourself a favor.
Some cards companies have now put them on a watch list.
Avoid Avoid Avoid and report scam to as many people you can
I got a cheap promotional subscription for completing a survey, and when I went to check that my subscriptions were actually active, I accidentally hit the Unsubscribe button, which immediately cancelled my subscription, no "Are you sure?" or anything! I talked to customer support about it but they said there was no way to reverse it. Huge disappointment!
