This business is so dishonest! They renewed my membership for a year without any notice, then refused to cancel and refund my money. I checked the site today to make sure they weren't trying to charge me in the new year to find that they are now charging extra for the games that were included in the basic membership when I joined! Don't ever sign up with these scam artists!
BUYER BEWARE! I signed up for Lumosity a month ago. It's quite pricey when compared to other "games" so I wanted to try it out before I committed to a yearly (or longer) membership. I opted for the monthly payment and my account was debited immediately for the monthly membership amount. However, I was never allowed to access any of the games, other than the freebies, due to not being a "premium" member. I sent an email to customer service regarding the issue but they did not respond. But today they attempted to debit my bank account for another payment on a premium membership I don't have. RIP-OFF!
I'm doing this review because of Lumosity's unethical subscription renewal methods.
I subscribed in July for one month, and turned the Auto renewal off. Despite that, i got charged for a new month in August. I contact them, they apologize for the mistake and give me a refund.
I did another subscription in December and made SURE that the auto renewal is off. What happened at the beginning of January? I get charged for a new month anyway and now I have to contact costumor service again.
I think this is a deliberate act from Lumosity's side to trick people into new months subscriptions without their consent, under the impression that it was a mistake.
They misused my credit card info without my consent.
I'm not going to deal with them anymore.
I have not used or have signed up for Luminosity for over three years but they were able to track down my credit card information through PayPal so they could charge me for a membership that I don't want, nor have authorized. To bad they are so desperate for money they have to use these sneaky tactics.
I bought a year subscription, it was okay. I now have a career and don't have the time for it. I had totally forgotten about it. No courtesy email regarding my subscription being renewed, just all the sudden the money gone from my account. I called the bank in a panic. To lumosity's credit, I got the refund in five minutes, but... really really deceptive!
Cannot get help with a problem accessing games! Have tried many times to get an answer to a question with no solution. With a company of this size one should have to ability to contact an actual person! Extremely unsatisfactory! Games are ok but not that great?
Will cancel my subscription shortly!
I agree with the previous review, that the site is awesome and fun, but still a bit overpriced. However if that money is really going to scientists and doctors analyzing games and improving the site, then i can deal, because the games really are fun, and while recent research has found no correlation between brain games and increased IQs, I feel like my math skills and reflexes have improved from their games.
I've been using Lumosity.com for several months and like it very much. I feel my brain is sharper because of this training.
As far as customer service goes, I haven't tried to contact them because I haven't any problems. I go on the site everyday, play, get my "brain score" and go on with my life.
If you want to join and are not sure you are going to like it, pay with a credit card. If you don't like it, tell your credit card company that you no longer want to pay Lumosity. It doesn't matter if you can't get a hold of Lumosity customer service. Just have your credit card company stop paying them. Your credit card company will always back you in these kinds of situations!
So, after three years of having fun playing games on this site, I realized I didn't need the family package anymore because I was the only one using it. So, after my time was up, I went to renew on a smaller scale. Unfortunately, at first, I was not given the opportunity to renew anything but my family package. I went all over the site to try to find a back door to do this. Not until I went off line and returned to play a game before my last day was over did they finally offer me other options. Not a nice way to play, Lumosity, nor to treat a returning customer. Now I won't be one.
I subscribed for several years and enjoyed the product a lot. However, one thing I didn't learn was that the subscription was set to auto-renew by default. When I discovered that my credit card had been debited but I hadn't planned to continue the service, I filled out their online cancellation form within 30 days of the renewal. The site said it would take a few days or weeks for the credit to show up on my credit card bill. When eventually it didn't, I contacted the company but they said that I was now outside of the 60-day refund window. Moral: if you like the games, by all means, sign up. Just make sure that you've cancelled the auto-renew feature.
I signed up for Lumosity over 5 years ago. After 2 years, I decided to cancel my subscription. I called and advised them of this and they told me that being that the annual subscription was just auto renewed the prior month that there was nothing that could be done. They told me I would not be auto-renewed again. This turned out to be not true. They continued billing me. Recently I asked for a refund and pointed to the fact that the account has not been accessed in 3 years. They refused to refund anything. Make sure that you read the fine print!
I have about 10 recurring memberships and have never had a problem with any of them EXCEPT Lumosity. They are purposely misleading and I had a difficult time getting refunded. More importantly, this company is peddling quack science that preys on the anxieties of aging people who fear losing their cognitive abilities. Lumosity was sued by the FTC for $2 million dollars for making false claims. These people are scumbag CHARLATANS! They love to talk about how much their product is used in peer reviewed research, but the fact is, peer review research mostly concludes that brain games don't work. Lumosity simply refers to the few outliers who suggest, inconclusively, they might work. Also, the scientific community is highly suspicious of the irresponsible claims made by the brain game industry. Take a look at what the Stanford Center on Longevity says: http://longevity3.stanford.edu/blog/2014/10/15/the-consensus-on-the-brain-training-industry-from-the-scientific-community-2/
Faulty app, continuous sneaky billing despite opting out, NO Phone number & take forever to respond with Pre written responses of no explanation what's really going on. Then will use every excuse not to reimburse non approved funds taken from you. I feel this company preys on what they believe as "stupid people needing brain improvements". I'm surprised they are still in business, not being sued.
Very Disapointed Fraustrated EX Customer.
They gave my email address out to spammers. I signed up to their website a while ago using myemailaddress+*******@gmail.com. Three weeks ago viagra emails started arriving in my inbox sent to the +*******@gmail.com tag.
This, for me, dwarfs any other aspect of the site and I'd say stay away at all costs.
Beware, when you try to cancel the automatic renewal... you think you have cancelled but you must go through a mulit-step process, see below, or they will charge you again and NOT give you a refund.
Hi,
Thanks for the explanation. If you only clicked on the first cancel link, this did not cancel auto-renewal. In order to fully turn off auto-renewal, you have to go through a multiple step process that ends in you explaining why you are turning off auto-renewal. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you did this. Since we cannot process your refund, the only option available to you is to dispute the charge with your credit card company. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.
Best,
Matt
This is a scam! I only wanted to try it once and it auto-renew EVERY MONTH without notifying me and when you cancel you have several steps to actually fully cancel it. This site has taken so much of money and it's being doing it for a full year paying $14.95 /month
Get things right with the company is a real pain. The little test they give in a pre-test post test type situation is meaningless. Unless you are on top of what it is about you can end yp loikr me, going backwards. Their recalibration of ones scores was very odd. It seems that their statistics were way off up front, then they tried to correct them mid-flight. If one was attempting to get better at whatever it is, the recalibration changed all of that.
I think the games work on keeping your mind nimble and it forces focus. Being retired focus seems to waves a great deal. All in all enjoyable.
I wonder if the video professor is involved with Lumosity. The idea is good, but customer service stinks. I have been locked out of my account, they have no telephone numbers, and I now have 4 ticket numbers trying to find out why. I paid $80 for a year, but here it is July and I am out. From reading the reviews, I expect I will have another $80 taken from my cc and nothing to show for it. I am frustrated and angry at this treatment! It is nothing more than a scam to get your bucks.
I set up the train game only to have the trains redirected. Similar problems with a few other games. The problem started win I changed "automatic renewal" to do not renew and I completed a test once and wouldn't do it a second time. Reverse billing is illegal in Canada.
I'm giving the one star review because their auto renewal process is deceptive. No where was I told that my yearly subscription would be auto drafted from my bank account, until today I received a notice that I had approved the $74.95 annual fee. I thought that last year I had just signed up for one year. I wasn't notified in advance or sent a reminder that this was happening until after the fact. All that is beside the fact that I think it's overpriced for what you get. Lumosity, automatically making your customers always renew without reminding them before hand or giving them the option, and having us have to change that in our profile, if you're lucky enough to figure it out before getting the charge, is NOT a way to keep users happy or coming back. Also, when you call the customer service number, there is no representative, you have to leave a voicemail which says they'll get back to you in 3 days.
Answer: It has helped me remember phone number, people's names, gaming recal and password recall. It has improved my ability to focus, task change and use peripheral vision and direction. Hope this answers your question.
Answer: There is a free trial, but it is not indicative of the whole site. As with Brian S I can only underline what he says, and keep right away from it. Lumosity is actually run by Google, and I think it's more a case of information gathering dressed up as an online fit brain exercise programme.
Answer: Yes and yes!
Lumosity has a rating of 2.1 stars from 241 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Lumosity most frequently mention customer service, credit card and auto renewal. Lumosity ranks 908th among Games sites.
