Scam
September 3, 2015

Lumosity is a scam. Be warned. Step away now! I signed up and found the training makes no beneficial difference to my daily life - and stopped using it. However the company never stopped charging. They provide no notice or receipts and continue to charge your credit card and refuse to give a refund unless you catch them in the act within 60 days.

Don't just take my word for it. It seriously doesn't work. http://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/apr/21/brain-training-online-neuroscience-elizabeth-day

The site seemed like a good way to help improve my memory and attentiveness, but after 6 weeks my scores on "the brain test" dropped by over 10 points. Why? Because the applications are so erratic that it was impossible to navigate through them so the clock ticked away while waiting for something (anything) to happen. When I requested a refund due to this poor performance, I was told it's beyond 30 days and we don't give you anything after that. Poor applications, poor service. Stay far away.

Their business model seems to automatically opt you in to an automatic renewal that you did not even realize you signed up for. They keep your credit card info and charge you again a year later, long after you stop playing the games! Then they refuse to refund your money if you don't notice it within 30 days. This practice may even be illegal in some states.

How can you trust them?
December 9, 2017

Study after study have been unable to prove mental improvement as result of playing electronic games. Lumosity claims differently. As much as I would like to believe them, I find their billing deceptive. I signed up during Cyber Monday, and they kept sending better and better offers, without making it clear that each offer is not independent, but added to the previous charges.
If their billing is misleading, how can one trust their claims?
That being said, their train game is both addictive and fun, for which I added one star to my rating.

I started out with my problem solving ability at 99.8%, As I wondered where I could go from here, I've found myself now at 85%. So did I lose brain power?
My memory, though, which had been at 50% rose to the 92% once I gave it more attention and effort.
To sum it, I've learned the games and improved my performance of them to the top of my age group by learning them. After a while some of them became boring. I skip them all the time (hence losing points?) Some others I've reached as high as I can (e.g. Trains at level 12) and all my failed efforts only lower my scores, not improve my brain ability.

For me, Lumosity is fun.

As a senior I was drawn to the idea that exercising my brain would help ward off issues in old age. I tried Lumosity but cancelled membership well within the thirty day cancellation period. One year later I received a charge for a new subscription. Upon looking into it I find that they did not return my earlier fee the year before and were now charging me for a new membership. Their excuse was they did not receive my cancellation notice. They refunded my new fee but refused to refund the fee for the previous year even though they admitted they checked my account and saw that it had not been used since within the cancellation period. Bad bad business particularly when you try to draw in seniors with your product. Be ware is all I can say. This company cares nothing about the good of individuals and only about profits.

Before signing up I checked the research to see whether I could expect some cognitive improvements or stave off decrements. It was clear there is no science to suggest any gains but I joined because the games are fun. There are lots of games of all types, but if you play any of them often you find the same puzzles and sequences cropping up - they definitely need more. Make sure you turn off the automatic renewal immediately after you join and pay your first subscription.

A Rip Off
October 23, 2015

I joined Lumosity for a year under a promotion. The following year they charged my account even though I had selected no auto-renew on my profile. When I contacted them they said that their TERMS say that auto-renew is what they do. So you give them your credit card info once and they can charge it whenever they like? This company is crap. They have lost their mind and are teaching brain training? I don't think so. I'm working with American Express to handle this.

The games are ok and while I do see progress, It's hard to justify such a price for a game I play for minutes each day. Every year, during renewal time, I find myself trying to justify the price to my husband and he's right... my reasons are not great. Recently I saw lifetime membership for $188... I thought, yeah I guess I'd pay $188 for life... turns out I had to pay the $119 first then $188 (it was confusing)... so it's roughly $300 for a lifetime subscription... honestly, that is ridiculous. I'm a teacher and I am used to curriculum fees even in light of this... the price is steep. I'll probably go with my husband's suggestion and just cancel, he said there are several other apps out there with similar concepts but cost less... It's frustrating though... I think it's a great idea and I'm just getting used to the games...

I am frustrated because I activated my account on a long sleepless night where I was looking for something to do with myself. I would not start Luminosity at a time when you are sleep deprived, tired otherwise, not at your best, etc.; rather do it when you are fresh and ready to do your best. If you take the initial baseline test and are subpar for yourself, bad news. They will not facilitate you starting over again. They will act like it is almost impossible to do. Starting again is thus cumbersome at best and they will act like it screws everything up. NO it does not... I think it is overall pretty good, but cust. Service not so good...

I need more games for IPad. I think there are just 5 or 6 BORED! Expensive! Would be best to be able to choose games that would be individualized to users' needs. In other words, if I score low in memory, then I would like more games that increase memory.

I've been playing the Lumosity games since 2012 when I bought a lifetime membership. I've had no problems with anything, and I certainly recommend Lumosity to everyone. Very, very, very fun and challenging!

I really liked Lumosity and still do, but there are many games that I could play before with no access now. Very disappointed in this. Am quitting my subscription for sure!

Lumosity customer service is pathetic! Some of the games are interesting, but forget it if you expect scoring that makes any sense. I don't think even they know how it works. When I ask they say scores are based on an algorithm and they cannot reveal the algorithm. Hmmm. I usually don't buy anything online from a site that does not have a customer service phone number or chat line. Made a mistake this time. Emails take days to respond to, and usually are unresponsive to the question asked. Training reminders work sometimes, sometimes not. They need to address their problems, but they will have to do it without me when my subscription runs out. Waste of time and money. I give it two stars only because I enjoy a limited number of their games.

WORST. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. EVER.
I enjoyed playing the games. Whether my brain improved or not, is debatable.
Trouble started when I discovered that my account was being accessed by someone else. Lumosity was of no help. Even after repeated requests, they have not suspended my account, nor provided a refund. Utterly unhelpful customer service. They're blaming me for giving out my password to someone.
They lack the basic measures of security available on ANY website these days - lock the account after 5 incorrect password attempts. They don't have device authorization like Netflix or Facebook does.
Beware of what you're getting into. There is no way to contact customer service except email. And they take DAYS to reply.
Took my money and evading a refund now.

I looked over the reviews on this site about Lumosity and got to say. Please let me sale you a car. If you took 4 sec to read the billing statements before purchasing the product, you would have clearly seen what the billing cycles are, and the options if you choose not to enroll in the monthly or yearly subscriptions.

Has for me, I like this product, I've tried other free apps and for the most part. They tent to be the same mathematical questions, no shapes... etc.

I'm only four weeks into the service and seen improvements with my way of thinking. Now, I and hope no one expects these games to make you a genius, but should help improve daily thinking requires.

In October 2021, I just tried to see how Lumosity works, but in every step, the pressure was enormous to subscribe with payment - and? Their subscription renewal is automatic! I subscribed on Oct 28,2021, paying $47.20; through - Google Play. Soon I became frustrated as it did not seem to work for the purpose it claimed to work.
Meanwhile, I saw on the Internet that Lumosity had been fined millions of dollars as its claims to enhance brain function were false, as the experimental results showed.
The games are nominal - no brainstorming as in other proven games like Sudoku and so on. The game I had tried most was about the twenty-nine train. Towards the beginning, the trains are too slow; at the end, they are extremely fast, making the game useless to brain exercising. I wrote them to adjust the trains' speeds to make the initial ones faster and the later ones slower. They said they would look through it in a reply, but they did nothing.
I don't think they would refund my one-year subscription, but I stopped the automatic renewal from being on the safe side.
From my experience, there is no reason for me to recommend this expensive app for any user.

I just don't understand the negative reviews... Have been on lumosity for a couple years and have had no problems and found their customer service to be good... Asked them a functionality question one time. I find that the site has helped me increase my ability to focus and concentrate and really use it a lot. I suspect it's also helped me recover from an auto accident concussion i suffered. No complaints - I recommend it without reservation for those interested in optimizing concentration.

Stay away from this one.
Neat concept.
Problem is there is very little available on iPad.
They state more is coming but no action appears to be happening.
Instead of being Customer focused when I contested them they simply fell back on their "policy".
Avoid signing on with them. They are pretty lousy to deal with.
Not worth the trouble.

I received a gift subscription to Lumosity as a Christmas gift from a friend. After playing it for four months, I don't see any real improvement in my brain function. Evidently, I got the most basic package because I only get about a dozen games to play over and over again--even if I don't like them--and once my workout for the day is done, I can't play again until the next day. Also, if I'm on the last game and accidently hit "next" instead of "play again," there's no way to go back. Very annoying. Some of my scores have improved and continue to improve, but others have stayed pretty much the same or even decreased. I don't see any real difference in my day-to-day ability to function in the world. When this subscription is up, I won't renew. There are enough free games on the web to play which are as good or better at challenging your brain than Lumosity's.
