Purchased loads and couldn't get an credit card from them yet I have nine others than extended credit immediately. I used to buy all my winter things from them and even Christmas gifts.
Gift Card Scam at LL Bean. Received a Gift Card for my birthday and tried t use it on line. Website would not process the order without a credit card (should have been the first warning). Called the 800# and ordered and gave the Gift Card # and the Pin # (read it slowly TWICE). Was asked for a cc# "to cover shipping/tax" and fell for it. Well 2 hours later I get an email that the entire amount has been charged to my credit card. Spent 3 hours on the phone trying to cancel the order and reorder but no dice. Until I said that I would be filing a complaint with NY State Inspector Generals Office for deliberate credit card fraud in charging an unauthorized amount to my card without my knowledge. Mentioned my Cousin works as an Auditor for them. LL Bean hung up and 10 in later called back and offered to credit my cc# with the Gift Card amount and refund all taxes and shipping...
I seems that LLBean runs this scam and uses your money during the 45 days they take to "refund" you the Gift Card "error". It is called a "float" in CC terms. Do not fall for it!
So first off, I have been buying from this store for almost 40 years, so my dissapointment is deep. I received a sweater from my mom as a gift, I'm a tall size and the herd of ll bean tall sized sweaters i have owned over time all worked great, but this one, marked tall, is not. Ok, so I have to return it. Read the fine print... says I have to pay return shipping... no disclaimer that if it's their fault, missized, damaged, etc. on paying that fee. Ok, that's crappy policy but they say you can forgo paying for their mistake if you take it into a store, which i have kinda nearby. So upon trying my return at the store, I'm told that you have to have the cc the purchase was made on in hand else they will only issue store credit... for an item mismarked by them. So problem with that is mom isn't with me. She is in a bloody nursing home and I'm not about to wheelchair her down to the mall to present her credit card. Just asking them to credit it back to her card, that's the card they were happy to take payment on initially over the phone for God's sake. So run my dissatisfaction by the store manager and she basically tells me even if they sent the wrong color it's my responsibility to pay return shipping... or maybe I can call customer service and complain. Ok, this isn't a Walmart good, it's full fare. A 90 dollar sweater. And I am done. My loyalty went back to the indestructible backpack I got in the late 70s as a kid, but that's over. Good luck and read the fine print before you pay.
I will never purchase from LL Bean again. It is a dishonest company that does not stand behind their products. I sent back a pair of Storm Chasers that were leaking. I spoke to Kay on 4/29/21 about the return, and she sent me a UPS label. At no time did she tell me there might be a problem with returning them because I'd had them since 2019 or possible wear on the shoes. She told me the company would take my word for it that they were leaking. I spoke to Melissa on 5/6/21 about the Storm Chasers. She told me that I could receive a full refund or exchange them. The company didn't have any black women's Storm Chasers so I asked her to hold a men's pair for me as I wasn't sure I wanted them due to the single choice of color. On 5/7/21 Deb called me very early in the morning to tell me that LL Bean would not honor the exchange or refund. When I questioned her regarding Melissa's plan, she told me Melissa would call me back. She never did. I called twice on 5/11/21 and once on 5/12/21 and never spoke to Melissa. During the 5/12/21 phone call, Kristen read me supposed notes from Melissa completely changed from our actual conversation, making me out to be a liar. Finally, on 5/12/21, a supervisor called me to tell me LL Bean wouldn't do anything for me regarding the defective Storm Chasers. I will not continue to do business with a company that doesn't have integrity.
Clearly for a specific demographic, and not a very interesting one. If their taste was as high-quality as their shades of toupe, this would be one happening place.
This is a wonderful site and easy to maneuver. The prices reasonable but the quality is excellent. If it's not right when you get it the exchange is fast and courteous
I accidentally ordered the wrong color item making sure I would receive the one I wanted for Christmas I put in another order. Canceling my wrong order was extremely easy. Great customer service!
Love the stores, love that we get the catalogs, this brand has lasted us the longest. We buys, shirts, sweaters, slippers, backpacks, jackets etc.etc. Never disappointed
After supporting LLBean online for years I was excited about a BC outlet. The store is beautiful but they've hired only two staff; who are overwhelmed and underpaid. So bad.
I will give you the short story -- the real story is long, boring, expensive, and painful.
I made the mistake of buying a very expensive Dahon bike from LLBean after being assured by their "customer service" (& I do use the term loosely) that it is given a "tune up" by them before shipment. This is an outright lie. I had to take this bike in to a bike shop twice because it was put together incorrectly. Not only was I treated like dog dirt by their "customer service" on the phone, but by email they mostly simply ignore customers who aren't thrilled at paying hundreds of dollars for defective products.
LLBean has a fan club, & it's a good thing that they do or else they'd be out of business. Besides this Dahon bike fiasco, I've bought other things through the years from LLBean that just weren't worth the money but are always grossly hyped by their fan club. One example is their mission-style furniture. The wood is extremely rough & cheap looking, you have to put it together yourself, yet it is priced in the range of medium-to-high-end furniture.
So, I learned my lesson to never buy furniture from them. I learned to not buy their shapeless garments. Now I learned that you can't even buy other name brands from LLBean -- unless you want to be ignored when the item is defective.
My dad purchased from LLB for YEARS! He SWORE left and right by them! AND! I CAN see why! They've been NOTHING but Wonderful to me! I purchased a jacket last yr. Well the zipper got stuck and thus the jacket got Stuck on me and I couldn't get it off w/out cutting the jacket! I called LLB and Immediately was told to cut it off LOL and return it. I did and they gave me my FULL REFUND back! AND NOT just a credit but a REAL CHECK so I Could shop elsewhere! I opted of course to get another jacket from them! I returned some stuff I hadn't worn in AGES! They gave me a refund for that as well. I now Won't put this stuff into Good Will... LOL I keep it and when I have a box of it, I return it to get a credit or a check back. ONLY my last purchase did I need to wait for over 3 wk. To get it., Otherwise I got Every purchase VERY Rapidly! NO complaints w/LLB! Their stuff is Wonderful and I LOVE it!
Ordered 4 shirts on May 11th, received email that they would arrive on May15th. 10 days later 3 of the 4 shirts arrived. I checked online and it showed that ALL 4 WERE IN PROCESSING, when I had just received 3 of the shirts. As of today- June 14th, I still have not received the last shirt and the site still shows all 4 as Processing. I have called LL Bean twice, spent over an hour on hold and still they cannot tell me where the shirt is or when I will get it. They are blaming it on a Warehouse system problem. I checked online and this has been happening since early April. I have been on hold for 15 minutes as I type this to cancel my order.
My advice----STAY AWAY FROM LL BEAN!
My wife bought me a LL BEAN RAIN JACKET, after years on the coat rack I decided to use it, the liner disintegrated all over my sweater!
Called bean, they said send it back, then said it's not a defective item Basically GFYS
Then after more persistence they just bantered and back and fourth about the return and my telling them to burn it I was so upset, they then said they could not make a decision because I said burn it
Bottom line
The original Bean who busted his balls to build a good company succeeded! Then his entitled offspring went to WOKE UNIVERSITYS got brainwashed and hired associate bean counters who are more concerned about stock values than the people who faithfully subscribed to the company's success
All this for a 90.00 jacket that they contract for about 10.00 a unit from a sweatshop in VietNam
Really!
Done with you WOKE ENTITLED BRATS
ORVIS TREATS YOU WITH RESPECT
I don't know who love the bean boots more this old girl or her mom! This is my dog's go to spot in the garage!
For Christmas a few years back my wife bought me a thermometer from LLBean "First Watch Weather Station". This November 2014 it started to get temperamental, so I called LLBean for suggestions to see if I could reboot it or something. Being age 68 I don't know everything anymore. We went through different motions without success.
I was told it was "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed since 1912" and if I gave them my credit card info they would send me a new one, when I returned the broken weather station I would get a refund of the purchase price. So I got the new one, sent back the old one and never received any refund or email that they received it.
I called them after 2 weeks and they said I would get a refund that day. I did partially get it. My wife paid $19.95, the price when up and I paid $39.95 "Item: TA*******". They discounted what my wife paid to $14.95 (they wouldn't tell me why but maybe my wife got a $10.00 gift card for buying items before Christmas). Wife says no.
I wrote a review on the LLBean web site and after 2 days it was deleted.
If I was told by LLBean up front that I would only get a partial credit and I was actually buying a new weather station I would be OK, If I decided to buy another, but I was never told.
I am completely happy with the clothing that I have ever purchased from LLB. Great way to shop, return items, and excellent customer service.
Have no beef with ll bean. Just didn't have my size and had to pay cost of return. There policy has changed, if i remember right. Bricklayer
The best in quality! Everything they sell is always of the finest materials. I have a blouse that looks great after 20 years, No Joke!
Answer: Nope. But I have heard the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band's Gorilla album and it's my fav.
Answer: Fairly easy to get a CS rep via chat or phone but they aren't as conscientious as they once were and seem to use a lot of canned responses.
Answer: If you don't get results from one customer service representative, ask to speak to a supervisor. I emailed my question in and had a quick response and exceptional service. Had I not, I certainty would have gone up the chain of command.
