I've literally spent thousands of dollars at LL Bean over the years but not anymore.
- I ordered a pair of pants that wasn't as advertised but I liked them and so I ordered 3 other pairs in different colors. Each color fit differently than the first pair AND differently than each other. This is just plain poor quality. I never had quality issues with them before the last few years.
- Another issue is that their sizing is extremely inconsistent from one style to the next. You literally HAVE to try something on whereas it used to be so consistent that the same size was good through their whole inventory.
- If you shopped at LL Bean for years because their clothing was relaxed and fit you even if you weren't 5'10 and 120 lbs. You can just forget about it now. Most of the women's clothes are slightly fitted' and are difficult to fit into comfortably unless you are a model. Those of us who helped build LL Bean are being forgotten about.
- Very few shoes or boots are available in wide anymore
It goes on and on. If the prices went down as fast and as low as the quality it may not be as disappointing
I grew up in Maine and LL Bean stood for quality and a lifetime guarantee on products. Their return policy is now limited, clothing is mostly imported and quality is subpar for the price.
At 5:23 a.m. Nov. 18th I ordered snow boots for my wife. She saw the confirmation email at 6:30 a.m. and brought to my attention that the boots were the wrong size. At 7:05 I contacted the company and told them I needed to change the size. They told me it was too late to change the order and the boots will be delivered on November 30th. When they arrive I`ll have to send them back at their expense and they`ll send me the proper size boots, again at their expense. It`s inexcusable that they couldn`t change the order 90 minutes after receiving it. We had better IT in the steel mill in the 1970s. The package wasn`t being shipped for at least another 10 days and they couldn`t change the order. Unbelievable!
I have been a customer of LL BEAN for 44 years. Over that period of time I have noticed a decline in the quality of the merchandise, but that holds true for all but the most expensive clothing. The Gap, A &F, Old Navy, Lands End, Eddie Bauer, Macy's, etc... all in the same boat. Nothing is of the same excellent quality it once was. I am still wearing some tunics I got from LL Bean over 25 years ago. They have been washed hundreds of times. The color is still good and the material intact. I have a pair of their loafers I bought 30 years ago. They are quite lovely now with a nice, rich patina. Turtlenecks are not as nice as they used to be, but they are still about the best ones out there unless you spend over $100.00. I still purchase staple clothing items from them, but not as much as I would if the quality was top notch as it used to be. We would pay dearly for that quality now. Everybody wants to be paid top dollar for their work and no "natural resources" used and certainly no by products with which to deal... but they want the best products for a bottom dollar price... can't have it both ways folks!
LL BEAN HAS ALWAYS STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. I have never had a problem returning or exchanging anything. That, in itself, means a lot. And, for the most part, their products are ok. Some things better than others. Still a good company.
Last week, I received in the mail a promotional offer from L. L. Bean, "25% Off Clothes & Outerwear - November 22- December 17,2017." Okay... online, I tried to order a pair of women's slippers for my sister today, November 26,2017. The promo code on the flyer was rejected. I re-read the fine print on the flyer and noticed that the word "select" was included there, but ONLY there. What exactly does that "select" mean, I wondered? Nowhere on the flyer was it explained specifically what the "select" items were.
The fine print did exclude two footwear items - the Bean Boots and Maine Hunting Shoes - but it stipulated nothing else about any other footwear.
I called L. L. Bean about this, and I was told that the slippers I wanted were excluded... but, again, nowhere on the flyer was this exclusion mentioned. The person with whom I spoke couldn't explain why, and just replied lamely, "Sorry..."
I work in retail apparel myself, and our own customer service standards would always favor the customer in the instance of an error of omission such as this one. I have been buying items from L. L. Bean since 1975, but I have to sadly admit that it's just not the same anymore.
L. L. Bean has excellent outdoor clothing and equipment. Mostly, I have bought clothing on this site. I have been very happy with the quality and durability of their products.
Love the products at LL Bean! I like the prices better when they're on sale, but the customer service is always excellent. And I always enjoy what I purchase here.
I am extremely disappointed with L. L. Bean. We have been loyal costumers for years, and supported this company for years. On of the boots we have wore out after one year of purchase. We called to get our 100% satisfaction guarantee for a warranty. The manager was extremely rude and told us this was just excessive wear and tear on the boot. I had explained we only used it to go in the woods and we took care of it. We even have proof it had only been one year before the boots sole went and the stitching went. They refused to repair the boot for free or give us a new one based on the warranty. They even called us liars and did not want to listen to the proof we had, I have never talked to someone so rude. Never again will I purchase a boot or anything from them again. They are liars and do not stand by their 100% satisfaction guarantee. Don't buy this and don't believe them. Extremely disappointed in this company right now. If their was an option for no star I would do that. They are not even worth 1 star.
I am an older person and have LIVED in your perfect fit bootcut pants for
Many, many years. I have several almost new pairs, several used pairs that I wear at the gym and those that are almost worn out I save for gardening.
They are the best pants ever, until now! I just ordered two more pairs in my normal large petite size onoy to have to return them because the fit
Has changes and the length is not onlyo 1 3/4 inches longer but also wider at the bottom of the pants. I am WILDLY DISAPPOINTED and hope that this is simply a small glitch in your manufacturers cutting. The
Pants are advertised as having a 27 inch inseam, when it reality it is 28 3/4 inches, making them too long unless I hem them.
I hope you will take this comment seriously. I LIVE for Beans and dress
In your Pima Cotton t-shirts daily, year 'round, but now I'm not sure what to do about pants. Listen to a dedicated consumer.
Thank you,
Rebecca Ellis
Family owned and ran company. You could buy a pair of jeans and wear them for 20 years, they rip you bring them back and they give you a brand new pair. Where else would that happen?
IF I COULD GIVE YOU A 0 I WOOD. THIS WEB/STORE E-MAILS YOU TWICE A DAY. I HAVE SENT ASKING TO UNSUBSCRIBE. I HAVE TRIED TO UNSUBSCRIBE SEVERAL TIMES. THERE WEBSITE DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO STOP THE E-MAILS. THERE SIZES RUN SMALLER THAT THE AVERAGE AND I WILL NEVER USE AGAIN.
This company is the best! Their products and variety is outstanding. Enjoy the trip to Freeport, Me every year. Great place to shop for New England winters!
Generally like the merchandise except that I'm a plus-size gal and they don't carry much. Clothing design seems a bit old-fashioned. Like their footware and home items.
Purchased numerous items from them over the last 10 years. The quality of the merchandise is outstanding. Have never had to return anything from clothes to household items.
Everything purchased from L. L. Beat lasts forever. When I'm looking for items that I know I'm going to need top quality, last forever & money's worth I go to L. L. Bean!
Well made products, they last a very long time. Great for buying kids leather shoes and jeans, once slowed in growing.
Great for dads and fathers, well made products
I ordered a pair of bean boots for my husband for Christmas. They were limited edition and back ordered. I ordered them on 12/9/19 with an estimated ship date of 12/23/19. I knew they wouldn't arrive by Christmas and I was ok with that. Shortly after Christmas they were backordered again until 1/27/20. I called customer service and they said because they were limited edition they couldn't do anything about it but assured me they would ship out 1/27. I checked my order a couple of days ago and it was processing. Then yesterday I get an email that they are backordered AGAIN until 2/24/20. I call customer service complain and cancel my order. They tell me that they can connect me with a sales clerk in Massachusetts that has one pair in stock. I mean... what? I then spoke to a supposed supervisor who was also less than helpful and didn't seem to want to rectify the situation at all. So my husband didn't get a Christmas present and they obviously don't care about the reputation of LL Bean at all. I have written maybe 2 reviews in my life but I thought this one deserved a write up and hopefully will save someone else the hassle. Don't do it!
This site has great clothes that are reasonably priced. The site is very easy to use, and the site has great customer service. It has always been fun and convenient using this site.
I've been shopping with L. L. Bean for decades. I had their LLBean credit card, and loved the perks when it was with Visa. Now they have Mastercard and their credit card is just awful... it really let me down and ruined my holiday shopping by suddenly closing my account for no reason. In fact, they owed me money. But, anyway, L. L. Bean's clothing quality has declined over the years. It used to be that their clothing were wonderfully long-lasting and sweaters nearly indestructible. Now, their sweaters mostly self-destruct within a few years, at best. A cash ere sweater I've had 3 years is becoming "thin" & is labeled "Made in China". Ugh! The women's tops have been shortened by several inches, so when you wash them, they shrink a bit and your mid section will show. Their returns are fine, especially if you have their now-crappy credit card, returns are free. I would only purchase L. L. B.'s high end items now, as those are the only items of quality that will really last, i. E., their $250 sweaters or $200 boots. Of course, wait for sales and use the LLB perks of "Bean Bucks". Sadly, their clothing quality has declined, but their household goods are great, if very over-priced. Be sure to carefully read all reviews before buying their furniture, as I've seen some poor reviews. I have bed linens from LLBean that are absolutely superb, which I had to wait to buy on sale, as they were very expensive. Then, the design is duscontinhued, so I cannot buy matching anything. Bummer! I used to LOVE LLBean, now it's a scavenger hunt for quality, pouring through their quantity of stuff. Good luck.
This was once a great company with quality products and service, but not anymore.
First they trashed the lifetime guarantee, and in their notice to customers about it, insulted anyone who had ever returned anything. Since most of the items they sell are for seasonal use, the new 1-year guarantee is essentially good for 3 months. Think about that for a while.
Then they forced us LLBean credit card holders into a new company with higher interest rates, fewer benefits and poor service. But you can bet that LLBean gets a bigger cut of the credit card action. No concern whatsoever for their customers though.
I recently returned two t-shirts for exchange because their XL is actually a XXL. After two weeks I hadn't heard a word about the exchange and had to call them. They couldn't even offer an excuse, and finally shipped the two size L shirts but refused expedited shipping. In all, over three weeks to make the exchange.
Product quality is in the dumper. The jeans I just ordered are made of cheap, thin denim and have permanent creases up the inside of the legs that can't be ironed out and get lighter with each wash. Navy-blue colored shorts from the same order are seriously faded after only two washes. I will not return these items, I'll just keep them around as reminders why I don't buy from LLBean anymore.
I have LLBean products in my closet that are at least 30 years old and still get used. But there will be no new items. Poor product quality, incredibly poor customer service, ridiculous shipping times, inflated prices and a worthless guarantee have all contributed to making me a FORMER customer.
Answer: Nope. But I have heard the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band's Gorilla album and it's my fav.
Answer: Fairly easy to get a CS rep via chat or phone but they aren't as conscientious as they once were and seem to use a lot of canned responses.
Answer: If you don't get results from one customer service representative, ask to speak to a supervisor. I emailed my question in and had a quick response and exceptional service. Had I not, I certainty would have gone up the chain of command.
