They are terrible when compared to Groupon. A company claimed one thing on the voucher and did not honor the voucher. When I called to get my money back (after a long wait on the phone) they said it was more than 5 days since I bought it. Since the voucher does not work and the company I was using the voucher with only had an email contact, I never heard back from them. Living Social still will not give back my purchase money.
I purchased a Living Social voucher that expired on 4 June. The merchant was closed on 4 June and 3 June. Hence, the voucher should have expired on 2 June. When I tried to use the voucher on both 3 June and 4 June, I was obviously out of luck.
The merchant saw the problem with this and extended the deal for a few days. Unfortunately, Living Social did not provide her with email addresses of people who purchased the deal, so people didn't know that the the deal had been extended.
I contacted Living Social about this problem three times, twice by email and once by telephone. Their customer service was polite and the customer service representative even agreed that the voucher listed the wrong expiry date, but he refused to extend the life of the voucher, offer a refund, or even to offer a credit. Even the merchant thinks that they should have done so.
Buyer beware.
Wow, can I say scam? I would never do business with them for they do not screen their merchants, the one I went, cosmetic salon was in a $#*!ty stripmall with dirty bathrooms with NO hand towels. I wonder what their employee wipe their hands with before touching your face! I asked for refund, and was told that they DO NOT give you refunds after 5 days. Who ever gets to redeem their deal within 5 days? Appointment takes a while to get and goods usually arrive after 5 days, in which case it's too late to find out flaws and etc. customer service was terrible and rude. I finally got my refunds, after hours of going back and forth for 2 hours, and they gave me 'store credit' and I went to use it to buy take out, and my cc was charged. I email them about it, only to be told that I can't use my refund towards food. Absolutely terrible experience. Stay with Groupon, they are amazing in terms of screening merchants, customer service is very helpful, and just all around smooth experience. Go to hell Livingsocial because that's how I felt dealing with you
If you could select 0 stars i would. Bunch of cowboys just out to get your money. Customer service team are awful and don't answer the phone or emails.
STAY CLEAR!
They offer discounted roller derby tickets, but the actual discount (a regularly priced VIP $40 ticket for $28) was "sold out" by the time the offer hit the net. What a shock. Not! Then the regularly priced $18 general admission tickets were offered for, are you ready, $18! What a joke.
I bought a deal for a saloon and no one returns my calls for an appointment. Then finally I went over to the location and this saloon doesn't even exist! I requested for refund and all they can offer is 'deal bucks' and who wants to waste their time again on such bogus deals? Very unreliable. Unfriendly and unfair policies. I would not recommend anyone.
Terrible customer service. I needed help with a refund and could not reach anyone by phone. I contacted them by email and was told to call and speak to someone, however they would not give me any contact number other than the main line, which hangs up on you when you try and reach an operator.
I would strongly urge people not to use their service. The deal I was seeking a refund for turned out not to be a good "deal" at all. I purchased two discount vouchers for a service which was so overpriced that I would have had to shell out twice as much as I paid for the vouchers in order to get what I wanted.
I will NEVER use LivingSocial again. I purchased 2 vouchers through them for what turned out to be a less than reputable merchant. I asked for and was granted a refund. 3 weeks later and I still haven't received the refund. I get conflicting answers from customer service and basically accused of trying to extort my $75 from them. And that's when I can get an answer. It takes 2 days for an email reply and 20 minutes of holding to get someone on the phone.
I've been told the refund went through to my card on file. Neither my bank nor I have any evidence of receiving the refund. Then I was told, no, it was sent to my purchasing card. I closed that card account EIGHT MONTHS AGO. I have applied for a chargeback through my bank and pray they'll help me where LivingSocial has clearly failed.
Horrible customer service. Their "system" randomly canceled my deal and I had to fight with them for a refund, which I would have never found if I hadn't checked my account. No notification, NOTHING.
Terrible, terrible, terrible experience. Use Groupon.
Bought a gift for my friend for Carl Thomas Hairdressers through Living Social. The salon booked an appointment for a day when the salon was closed. Salon was being pedantic about booking a patch test 48hrs before. It had to be 48hrs not an hour before or after! After getting nowhere with the salon, I decided to phone and get a refund through Living Social as the salon were not accommodation to my schedule of working all week (as most people do). I phoned and spoke with a guy who asked me to hold... 35mins later I ended this call. I phoned again the following day and spoke with Zara. Zara was as much help as a chocolate fireguard! They can only refund the money if the merchant goes out of business. In my opinion Carl Thomas will be out of business soon if they keep booking clients in when the salon is shut. I advise evryone to forget Living Social and stick with Groupon or Treat Ticket.
I have had just xtremly bad bad experince with this site, I bought a a couple of
Vouchers, i did not receive my items for one of them, the other one was a photography deal and they could not fit me in. I called
Living social *******762 them after the deal had expired and they refused to refund my money. The busineses who offer the service only get paid for the vouchers they redeem, so forall the expired vouchers the full money gets pocket by the site
I used living social a few times without a problem, however, upon going to a massage class that I bought a deal for, I was seriously disappointed and wrote a very detailed message to living social about it. They sent me this in response: "Thanks for contacting us!
We're sorry that this was not a ideal experience for you and understand that you would like us to refund your voucher. Unfortunately, we are unable to extend you a credit card refund or Deal Bucks credit because your request is outside our refund policy. We do appreciate your honest feedback though, and will forward this to our Merchant Services department.
We'd like to help you avoid this issue should you wish to obtain a refund for another voucher in the future. For information about our Terms and Conditions, check out our help site article: What is your refund policy?
If you still have questions, please reply to this email. We're happy to help!
Thanks for LivingSocial!"
So basically they don't give a S***
I can't believe that they don't care at all about customer satisfaction. With Groupon, any time i've had an issue or a problem they fix it immediately, even if its just a credit back to my account towards a different groupon. I will definitely not be using living social anymore.
Bought a voucher for one of their London experiences. It expired in 3 months time - I called the company to book my place and was offered only one slot in the 3 months time of the voucher, which was 11am on a Monday meaning I would have to take an annual leave day from work. I told them it wasn't acceptable to be offered 1 time slot in three months and was told to work it out with Living Social. I have tried calling and emailing for 2 weeks now and can't get a response. Chalking it up to a lost cause now and a lesson learnt. Don't bother, they seem like great deals but all the companies sell too many, can't accomodate paying customers, and then Living Social just won't respond. Buggers.
Stay away. I purchased one deal with them, and can fully say groupon is much better. I had a problem and tried to contact the support for some help. They sent me a reply about three days later. It was a pre-made message that was completely not helpful. Tried contacting again, same thing. Don't bother with a company that can't help their customers.
I bought two 'deals' from LS. I should have learned from the first time. This site is a rip-off! They sell so many deals that the merchant is unable to meet the demand. The first deal ($30) I could never get through to the merchant for an appointment and they never returned my call. I called LS and they quickly gave me account credit for the $30. Knowing I had that credit and could not get a refund, I purchased another deal. Again, the merchant was very busy but scheduled the service for 2 weeks later. After he didn't show within that time period, I contacted him and he said he had 'issues with LS' and that he would not be able to get to us for another 2-3 weeks. This was 2 months after the purchase and completely unacceptable. When I contacted LS, Georgia was nice enough but said she could not do anything and would be submitting the request for refund to the consumer services department and they would get back to me within 1 business day. Three emails and 5 business days later, nothing. I contacted my credit card company to dispute the $65 ($95 less the $30 credit). They filed and contacted LS (telephone conference), some snotty guy ( I think James) said their policy is not to issue credit simply because the merchant is too busy. I explained that they had in the past and he flatly said they weren't going to this time. My credit card company has issued credit for the $65 and hopefully I will eventually get the other $30 back. This site really does not care about customer satisfaction, its bad when even the merchants feel taken by LS. They just want the money and don't care if the customer actually receives the service or product. I've used Groupon and Daily Deals with great success. Stay away from LS!
Customer service:
I wrote an email to detail my complaint. They responded with a pre-fabbed outline of their refund policy.
I wrote saying that they did not answer my question. I got no response (which is completely outrageous and unethical).
I called in and explained my position and they still refused to do anything.
Complaint:
Not all the terms and conditions were written on the original ad. I did not realize this until after the 5 day refund period, when I actually looked at the voucher and it mentioned, pretty blatantly that there should be a tip given and that it should be given on the "prediscounted price"
While I don't mind tipping in my day to day life, I find this distasteful and the fact that they did not disclose this on the original ad (deal) means that the "cost" that they advertised was not the true cost.
The way the handled it after the fact is even more ridiculous and shady; the customer service agent was actually adversarial with me. Unbelievable. Never use a shady service like Living Social.
Kevin
Negative experience. Signed up for window cleaning. Paid $50.00 Voucher good for 1 year. When I called the window cleaning company, they suggested I ask for a refund from LivingSocial. Apparently they were too booked. I sent LivingSociall a refund request. No answer. So I called 2 weeks later. They turned down refund request. They only refund within 5 days of purchase. Don't purchase anything with a service or especially travel from LivingSocial UNLESS you can afford to lose your money.
I've tried Living Social a few times. They're a scam. Overall, the quality of their merchants and their service is beyond poor, their merchants treat the LS voucher holders as if they're there on charity and once they divest you of your money, Living Social takes no responsibility whatsoever for the crap they sell vouchers for. To top that, their customer service and feedback mechanisms are nonexistent. In short, their prices may be low, but what they sell is worth even less, much less.
Absolutely horrible customer service. I bought a coupon for a restaurant that I was really looking forward to trying, but when I called to make reservations, the person I spoke to was so incredibly rude and sexist ( I am a woman) that I refused to support the business... turns out I was speaking to the owner! When I try to get my $$ back form LivingSocial, they refused because I was outside of their refund policy timeline... I explained to them that I had had every intention of using my coupon and related my experience to them, but they were not interested! Horrible, horrible customer service. I will NEVER use them again.
Was looking to take a vacation. I've enever been to New York so thought I'd look into it. Last month, The Gotham Hotel had a deal for a room for two adults for two nights (I forget the price). I wanted to research the hotel some and by the time I felt satisfied it was a decent hotel, the deal expired. This month the deal returned and it is $600. So I do a quick jump out to Gotham Hotel's website and look up a room meeting *all* the criteria (room type, stay length, days of week, time frame for reservation, and "free" upgrade) and discover the room can be had for just over $500. What the heck?
Groupon validates you are actually getting a deal and requires the advertiser to submit evidence the deal is a good one. Clearly Living Social does not. Thank goodness I dodged that bullet.
I would only use Living Social for local restaurants you know will be in business (got a Johnny Rocket's deal that was worthwhile) or check the "deal" to make certain it really is one.
Oh and Gotham Hotel? I won't be staying at you either when you lie and try to rip people off using Living Social as your means of thievery.
Answer: I wouldn't recommend these people to anyone. A total nightmare. They take your money don't send the goods and they don't answer e mails
Answer: There do seem to have been some financial problems with many of the deals from Living Social. But when I had a problem they answered the phone and it was dealt with quickly and the goods resent.
Answer: Have you contacted the customer service at Livingsocial.com? I have found them to be pretty responsive in the past. This is a seperate review site.
LivingSocial is a leading "daily deal" site that sells discounted experiences and local services--restaurants, spa trips, home services, travel, etc.--via voucher. The consumer must pay for the voucher upfront, and the voucher generally must be used within a specified time period or it cannot be redeemed. To make these deals possible, LivingSocial sells merchants on its ability to help "find and keep more customers". LivingSocial is a private company based in Washington DC and its shareholders include Amazon.com.
