The company's reputation is significantly marred by customer dissatisfaction, primarily due to the overwhelming volume of homework and a perceived lack of effective teaching methods. Many reviewers express concerns about the mental stress and negative impact on children's well-being, citing a reliance on repetitive worksheets and inadequate support from staff. Kumon is literally the worst they give you 70 pages a week and is so bad and i hate it i go to Kumon and it's not helpful at all I'm doing second grade math at 6th grade and this is not awful besides they're so expensive and there's no use of even going there parents please do not let your kids go there you're going to traumatize them
I quit kumon because they repeat the same thing and it is stupid when they give me 58 pages of work like what do you think i am a robot stupid and waste of money.
Kumon is a horrible education system which I've been forced to stay in until middle school. The lady there charges 320 dollars a month and expects me to get all the answers correct. I'm only in 4th grade and the lady there tells my parents lies and gets me grounded, and she doesn't even know how to count pages. The lady there gets furious when I miss pages on accident or if I don't write neat. The people who mark the Kumon books are high school students and rely on answer books. Not their brains they have holiday packs to do on the Christmas holidays. Would you rather do homework on the holidays or do about 16-20 books for your holiday? You start in early January and all through to November. I'd rather drink sweat than attend Kumon!
Which kumon excessive amount of homework, you could loose exercise, time with family and friends, and outside. Also, Kumon may cause children to be involved in a conflict with a parent. Kumon is also very expensive. The teachers only rely on answer books to help students, giving no info why that is the correct answer. The homework can cause children to have no time in finishing school homework, causing grades to worsen.
It was just plain bad. I had to write so much things! Also it is VERY VERY boring. I never had fun doing these. OH MY GOD this is the worst education thing ever.
I would not recommend kumon to your children because they give out so much packets and they're really rude. There's this one lady that is nice to little kids but is rude to the older kids.My kid says its really stressful cause how many packets they don't explain when they teach they just give so many packets its not acceptable.
I'm not a parent but a current student at Kumon, and it's honestly horrid. While some of the staff, particularly the younger collage aged ones, can be nice and helpful, the senior employees seemingly lack the ability to sympathize with young people. It's a common occurrence to see young children, no older than nine, loudly sobbing while the employees try to quiet them. More often than not, they're just told they're making too much noise. Not only that, but should your child ever actually ask for help, the employee's explanation is short and not nearly detailed enough. They use extra work as a punishment, particularly for younger kids. I assume this is because they (the employees) can trust that the parents will actually make them do it. I think this is unhelpful not only because these young children need time to play for their personal development more than they need to do extra homework on top of their schoolwork, but it teaches them to view math and reading as a punishment. It makes them more likely to not do it, to shut out instruction and give up.
Another thing is that if your child is behind in school, Kumon won't help them catch up for years. Because Kumon won't allow you to use calculators, and also has a time limit in the initial placement test, often times, or at least in my case, they make you start at the basics. This means you are doing work and relearning concepts from years ago. Or the opposite happens, and you're enrolled at a very young age like most of the other kids there. These kids are doing work high above their grade level at a very young age, but in real school they're doing completely different things and they have calculators to help them. Kumon also sends a lot of work home, even during holidays and over vacations. There is never a day when the child is not doing Kumon. From all the people I have talked to who went to Kumon, I have never gotten a positive review. I've talked to people about when they broke down at kumon, cried at kumon, hurt themselves at kumon, but never had any positive moments at kumon.
If your child is behind in school, my recommendation would be to find a proper tutor who will explain the material to them. There is little to none one-on-one time with the instructors at kumon past a certain age where you're left to figure things out on your own.
Kumon is a terrible environment, especially for older children. Most of all, it can negatively impact the mental health of a child by making them feel lesser for being unable to to the work.
Hello I am not speaking as a parent but as a student at kumon i find it no help, the staff where I go are very rude and i am in year 7 and I am doing year 2 work, they put children lower level then shown and the prices are rip-off as most kids hate going there.
If you are a parent reading my review please do not send your kids there.
Oh and I rate it a 0-5 it just wont let me do 0.
It's so bad it's so stressful you they put you back if you have to miss class it's sucks and that's it
Sucks so bad like oh my gosh worst thing ever business should shut down forever. I wish the who thing closed I HATE YOU KUMON
This stupid thingy is sapping the life out of my friends. I am in pain just watching him do it. I tried one of the sheets myself and let's just say, I have done harder worksheets in 1st grade. This sheet is making me want to commit mass genocide. It is just depressing that some people are forced to do this fricking sheet. I am using all my power to not use actual cuss words. So people at kumon stop messing around and use your brain (if you have one) and stop and get some help. YOU ARE A FAILURE
Not pleased at all about the academy. The instructors are mainly high school students who have no training in teaching the basics in reading, writing or math. Booklets are sent home daily. They do not challenge the students enough. Took my daughter out after a week. Their policy was is any missed class no make up and 1 month notice should be given. Overly charged.
This place scares me. I went there as a kid and when I pass by Kumon, I just see the somwhat unhappy face. If you want to be sad, go to kumon. I would've done a lower rating if I could.
Like your mental health? To bad throw it out the window by doing Kumon! I swear to got all they teach in math if fractions and make you want to do something horrible, kumon can be helpful for basic things but then they teach you super unhelpful math that you will never use even in school. It seems as the only unit they can help with in school is fraction and NOTHING else. The teachers at some locations are really old and just look at you funny if you dont know what to do, or get mad at you for not showing your work. I have a deep hatred for this company. Do not traumatize yourself and stay out of Kumon.
To cut it short. Kumon made me go insane. I learnt more from the people Indian person on YouTube. That Indian was a 7 year old child
My experience going there. First the reason I don't recommend going there is they make you do some test and they only give you 15 expecting you to Finnish it light speed and it multiplication, devision, adding, and subtracting I didn't do it on time but did really good on the test but they said I couldn't do multiplication and devision cause of my time what they did is make me do adding and subtracting which I already knew and that was a waste of my time cause they give you like 4 packets of this work math and reading they expect you to do in a week which was a waste of time since I already knew that. The reason why they make you do this is because they want to make it look like your kid is learning something. If you wanna save your money I would just recommend making your kids do khan academy or you can find a really good program that show instructions on your learning plus you can start them off a grade level they are. The second reason is mentally health this stuff made me stressed out on how much things I had to do in a week (every week), let's say they have a lot of homework that's due at the end of the week you have muti task to make sure you have that 4-5 packets done so they don't make you redo that stuff and make you do it again. Just please don't sigh your kids up for look for a cheaper program or a free please.
Parents - if you WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO LEARN, give them an ACTUAL LEARNING PLATFORM like IXL, ALEKS, etc.
Kumon is just incredibly boring, repetitive worksheets (4+3,4+4,4+5, etc) for ENDLESS WEEKS - instead of ACTUAL INSTRUCTION and ASSESSMENT.
Kumon's "instructors" are NOT TRAINED EDUCATORS. They simply buy a franchise license, hire teenagers to help and RUN A BUSINESS.
You will get MUCH MORE for your kids with one of the proper online platforms like IXL, ALEKS, etc.
Kumon took a year of our tuition money for our children. Two months later they abruptly and without explanation closed the center. They have since refused to give us a refund and corporate will not return our calls.
