Before the pandemic, I went to Kumon, and it was back in early May 2019. I thought it could improve my reading skills. However, the worksheets were boring and repetitive. When I took the exams, I had to memorize everything. Also, when I did classwork, many times it took me so long to figure out the correct answer for the reading passages. The reading passages were very useless and I was very unprepared for the SAT reading section. Due to the system of Kumon, I got frustrated so many times that I eventually had to withdraw from the program. Overall, do not waste your time and money on this. If you want to improve your reading skills, use Khan Academy, or hire a tutor who can actually help you with your reading skills.

July 11, 2023

I am in kumon right now and it's a nightmare. Every single day i have to do kumon and it's litteraly pointless. Once your done a unit you forget it the next day. Also im learning work for like 4 grades above me which is really hard and dreadful.

June 27, 2023

I don't like Kumon because it's like homework on the weekends and weekdays I just don't like it because they yell at kids when I was at Kumon and other kids were tortured honestly it did not really help me that much it puts me more anxiety and low confidence. 0/10 I won't recommend

Too much work.
September 1, 2023

They give way too much homework. You do 1 or 2 days a week, and the rest of the days you don't go, they give you homework. And, if you join later in your years, no matter what age, they start you with addition and multiplication.

Kumon had been great and helpful program. My kids used to go to Kumon after school or sometime weekends to study for their school works. However, I found out about this online tutoring website for kids called Beestar from some friends of mine and surprisingly, it worked well for my kids. The fact that it is free and fully online, I've saved a lot of money and could spend more time with my kids and help them with their study.

I would give it 4/5 but it got into my life too much like how am I supposed to enjoy the holiday. I get that I could just completely erase the gaming part of my routine but that's just going to make the entire day boring. More stress than it's really worth tbh

Not the best
April 15, 2019

The kids did not like the drill questions. I completely understand it is to help students with learning the basic skills and to have it memorized by heart but the whole system is just too exhausting for the kids. We use other online programs and so far Beestar has done a great job for the kids.

Horrible experience
September 10, 2022

Repetitive and extremely frustrating to do alongside school work. It's honestly like a suicide mission to do all this I highly recommend to hire a personal tutor that won't murder your child.

Kumon isn't that bad
April 21, 2022

My mother enrolled me in Kumon when I was in second grade, and even though I've never liked doing Kumon that much, I recognized how massive of an advantage Kumon gave me when I was in fifth grade. In fifth grade, I was already doing seventh-grade math and some basic eighth-grade math. Right now, I am in sixth grade and I am currently doing tenth and eleventh-grade mathematics all thanks to Kumon. When I think of Kumon now, I can't think of any bad things about it other than it repeating the same worksheets over and over again for a long time in level F, which wasted alot of time, but I assumed it was probably just so we could do better in higher levels that require a solid foundation of level F.

Medford, NJ - I enrolled my 10th grader to improve geometry. We never received the work we needed. She was begun at an early level to learn to add figures quickly. While this may be helpful, it was not what we requested. It was taking too long to advance, and my schedule became busy so that I wasn't able to continue after about a year. It would behoove center owners and managers to ask how long clients could realistically stay with the program and what their goals are to design it with the customer in mind. In addition, it would be helpful for them to ask periodically how happy we are with the service. With dissatisfaction comes negative word-of-mouth, which reduces possible business. It's up to the client, then, to be firm about their time frame and exactly what they want their student to learn if they are to be successful with Kumon, especially with an older child who is on a schedule. I trusted the owner, however, I passively accepted her guidance. I think many others have been dissatisfied as it is almost impossible to find even one review! (I searched diligently to find this thread.) Remember, you are the client - be firm about what you want your money to buy!

Do NOT go to Kumon.
October 13, 2023

I go to Kumon in Queens, New York. The teachers don't even help you when you ask for help and expect you to know everything, they give lots of homework but if you are a 3rd grader and up I wouldn't recommend since of school homework and how kumon gives at least 20-30 pages of homework which is a waste of time since kumon makes you only focus on one thing. Hence, it makes you forget other things you have learned so it does not help you. In my experience in Kumon, I've been in Kumon for at least a year, I have a teacher named Mr. Jeff, he will yell at you constantly, assume things and if you go up for help he will jus say for you to go back to your seat and answer it and says he cant help you when he is actually free doing nothing, and the graders are horrible, once I put in my math work and nobody else put in there work for about the past 1 hour and I received my corrections in 45 minutes for just 10 pages of work.

My child came in for an assessment, only to be turned away and the instructor bluntly told me they did not want to work one on one with my child. We left and will not be considering or recommending Kumon to any friends or relatives.

Straight to Collections
December 1, 2022

Read the termination requirements carefully as they will send you directly to collections and then to credit report without notification. Attempted to dispute with collection agency as requested, as Kumon NEVER even called me, and without a single response to my dispute I took a hit to my credit rating. Draconian practice and ruthless money grabbers. Foretold is forewarned.

It was Hell
October 11, 2023

I went to Kumon since yr 2 and stopped in yr 5 and let me tell you it was a living hell. The tutors were not helpful and did nothing, it was the same things over and over again, and there were mountains of homework.

Worst experience ever
September 13, 2023

Worest experience ever
First of all they refuse to teach my kid grade 10 according to her school curriculum and said that they follow their arranged structure, well but my kids has exam soon,
Help her to do well at the Exam
You can be flexible with your schedule and structure to support her so she can do well at her exam. They REFUSE as well
Worst experiences ever.,,, what is the benefit of going to Kumon if they will teach her after she go for her exam ….when I asked to withdraw my kids and asked for refund they refuse to do that
1 week after registration.

Secondly, they said free assessment and once you sign up your child they charge you 80$ registration fee plus 30$ material despite they use their I pad, no material will be given …
Totally non sense
Really So bad experience. Unpleasant one

Kumon is horrible
October 11, 2023

Kumon is horrible they don't care about your Mental health. They give you over 15 pages of math or reading. They give you homework everyday with over 15 pages. The teachers don't help they just give you a packet and expect you to know everything if you need help you to go up and ask you but what if your an introverted person like me. It's horrible, if you actually like your kids then avoid Kumon

Waste of time and useless
September 23, 2022

In my opinion, it is just so depressing to go there. The homework is just bad. They make you remember the anwser for each worksheet. As a result, you do not learn anything at all. I do not recommend other people to go there because it wastes time and money.

I am a sophomore in highschool and I have completed up to level M in kumon mathematics. Unfortunately, I STRONGLY do not recommend this program. First of all, students focus on the same subject for 200 pages (which is 1 level). The reason this is bad is because it takes a long time to complete one level and if students are focusing on the same thing, it takes them a very long time to move on to different subjects. You might be thinking "well they are just trying to get you to know the subject," but kumon basically just takes the same 35 questions and repeats them. Second reason is that it is VERY expensive. For worksheets that are not that effective, they make you pay a lot! So in my opinion, I would recommend other programs because this one is not good at all!

June 16, 2023

They expect you to now the the work with no help and made me re think my life decisions and made me regret all the times I said my normal school was bad in Kumon if you talk you get in trouble but in a normal school you can talk on a regular base and you leave when you are done with it then you can leave henry if you see this please try to let them have a reward when they are done or let them talk so they can make some friends and so you get more customers to make more money and for the good of the kid also in a kid writing this.
