My son has hated this learning program. This program has not helped at all. It makes him depressed and want to do suicide. I hope Kumon is reading this, cause if they are. I took my sons to do the assessment and had also spoke to the main person at this site in Antioch; Sandeep. I informed her I was looking to put my sons in tutoring to help them with their academics due to them being below grade level. She assured me this would help them etc. My son had told me one day he got "in trouble" because he put the wrong date and time. "Didn't i tell you what to put already" is what he was told. I spoke to someone there to address this and they reassured this would not happen again. My son was in one day for about 1hr and 10 min. I asked him why he was in there for so long and he said he was taking his time and trying to figure it out. (he was doing math) I asked him if he had asked for help. He then told me that when he did, he was told "I can't help you all the time." and then was left there to figure it out. He is 8 and was on double digit multiplication, which he hadnt even started in school yet. So my son sat there. I then brought this to Sandeeps attention and she reassured me, while listening to my concern, "Just so you know, this is a literacy program and NOT tutoring, first of all. In my country I taught and the programs are set up this way. Why would you want to "spoon feed" your child?" I responded and said, "How is my son getting EVERYTHING wrong on multiple pages... he tells you he does not know how to do it, and you feel its appropriate to tell him you cannot "help him all the time." So a student sitting there for over an hour staring at a page he does not know how to do... is effective and appropriate?" She responded "When is your last day? I can just take off one month since it ends next month and you can finish out this month and be done." Be sure to ask your kids questions on how they are helped if needed or if they're in for a long time, ask them why they were there so long. It makes no sense for them to be there staring at a paper with no knowledge of how to do it, in a room full of staff who have the ability to teach your kids. IF the owner and person who runs this site, considers Tutoring and getting help when needed "spoon feeding" do not go here. Its a 6 month contract initially at sign up. We paid $290/ month in total for both kids, just to have additional work on top of their regular schoolwork. It works for some but this was our experience.
