When I went to go take the test they put me to D because I got only 1 problem wrong, I got a the algebra problems correctly, when I was finished and I got on H, I asked for help for a few problems because I kept getting them wrong, when I asked them for help, they just tell me to skip it or do it at the end, I was literally crying and hiding my face but they didn't do anything and they acted like I didn't exist. I would prefer you to take other learning centers like Sylvan because it helped me with algebra and all the way I got to precalculus when I came to 9th grade, I am surpassing all of the other kids at my school and I have an avg GPA of 3.9. I am also taking Physics on sylvan tutor for college and it is really helping me. This company doesn't even deserve a star.
It's so bad it's so stressful you they put you back if you have to miss class it's sucks and that's it
Okey so this is what I think of kumon... BULL$#*!.THEY DO NOT HELP ME AT ALL, YOU CANOT TALK WITH OTHER KIDS, EVER SINGLE DAY OF YOU LIFE WORK SHEETS WORKSHEETS!, BEST PART NO BREAKS ONECE YOU ARE DONE YOU JUST SIT WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY. Don't come here please.
Kumon is so bad it doesnt help with anything. After level E all they give you is just fractions. They also force you to weprite steps even for the questions like 2x+1=5
It's awful. I do my kumon, forcefully, but then i realise tomorrow i need to repeat the same process. It got so bad, that when somebody would say kumon, i'd stutter for a while and jump back and look horrified. The questions are so annoying. Repetitive. Confusing. It doesn't give enough explanations. When they do give an explanation like 2/5 x (14/29 (4/29 divide 3)) =, they give longer questions.
It's so confusing. When there's long question, you are bound to get the question wrong. This was real in one case when they put like 12 equations and expected you to answer it.
The worst part is time management. How the f* do i do this in my GCSEs. HOW. HOW! OH YES LET ME FOCUS ON SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT, AND NEXT WEEK INSTRUCTOR SAYS "why have you not done your kumon?" It's annoying. When I go out with my mates or somewhere with family, if we go for an hour or more, i start getting worried and anxious that i have kumon to do. It's annoying. I can't enjoy my holiday espceially because on my holiday i go and visit 7 hours of the day, so i barely have time to do kumon. And even if i do, i would only have very little time to relax. Never, never, ever send your child here. Summary 1: overexpensive. 2: Repetitive. 3: Boring. Hard. Alot of work. 4: Nobody cares if you're struggling in the kumon centre. Overall, 1/5..
I am now 18, but I was put in the Kumon program when I was in 4th grade and then taken out when I was in 6th. This program looks amazing with the "extra help for your kid", but it's also A LOT of extra work for a child. In the program there are 2 days where you come in and get "extra help" on your current work and receive work for the upcoming days. In the two days you spend inside the building it seems like they would help you out with work but actually they just told me OH THAT WRONG and sent me back to my seat, I actually cried in front of everyone because of how overwhelmed I was. I remember when I wanted to have a fun time with my friends in the summer but couldn't because I was spending time inside doing my Kumon work alongside with my primary school work. I also remembered how when I was in 5th grade I did extremely difficult math(for my age) in Kumon compared to what I was actually doing in my classroom. What would be ideal for Kumon to do is help students with their school work and catch them up, instead of piling extra work on them. Lastly, I'm a huge advocate for people who battle anxiety and depression. Let your children have a social life and enjoy their early life. It's important for children to be on the right road to success but this program causes so much excess pressure on kids.
I'm not a parent but a current student at Kumon, and it's honestly horrid. While some of the staff, particularly the younger collage aged ones, can be nice and helpful, the senior employees seemingly lack the ability to sympathize with young people. It's a common occurrence to see young children, no older than nine, loudly sobbing while the employees try to quiet them. More often than not, they're just told they're making too much noise. Not only that, but should your child ever actually ask for help, the employee's explanation is short and not nearly detailed enough. They use extra work as a punishment, particularly for younger kids. I assume this is because they (the employees) can trust that the parents will actually make them do it. I think this is unhelpful not only because these young children need time to play for their personal development more than they need to do extra homework on top of their schoolwork, but it teaches them to view math and reading as a punishment. It makes them more likely to not do it, to shut out instruction and give up.
Another thing is that if your child is behind in school, Kumon won't help them catch up for years. Because Kumon won't allow you to use calculators, and also has a time limit in the initial placement test, often times, or at least in my case, they make you start at the basics. This means you are doing work and relearning concepts from years ago. Or the opposite happens, and you're enrolled at a very young age like most of the other kids there. These kids are doing work high above their grade level at a very young age, but in real school they're doing completely different things and they have calculators to help them. Kumon also sends a lot of work home, even during holidays and over vacations. There is never a day when the child is not doing Kumon. From all the people I have talked to who went to Kumon, I have never gotten a positive review. I've talked to people about when they broke down at kumon, cried at kumon, hurt themselves at kumon, but never had any positive moments at kumon.
If your child is behind in school, my recommendation would be to find a proper tutor who will explain the material to them. There is little to none one-on-one time with the instructors at kumon past a certain age where you're left to figure things out on your own.
Kumon is a terrible environment, especially for older children. Most of all, it can negatively impact the mental health of a child by making them feel lesser for being unable to to the work.
It was torture. They force you to sit there and do every problem till it's correct and give so much homework. I was at my lowest when I was at Kumon. Absolute torture. DONT PUT YOUR KIDS IN IT!
This stupid $#*! is horrible and I hope NO ONE GOES THERE $#*! THAT STUPID $#*!ING $#*!! It's torture! Free US! I was stuck there for an uncountable amount of years! SAVE THE CHILDREN!
This,is torture if you want to make you child hate themselves this is the perfect place. This gave me depression and sometimes even worse.
My mom enrolled me and my brother when I was in 4th grade and he was in kindergarden but he got on grade level work meanwhile I was put at a lower level and were flying by the problems so after a while my mom takes us out only to put us back in when I was in 5th grade then again my brother got grade level work so did I but they were lessons behind from what I was actually learning so it was hard for me because it wasn't what I was learning at the time and it was really confusing me and on top of that THE HOMEWORK was awful if I was on break from school I could forget about it because I STILL had kumon homework and had to go to kumon on top of that the graders we're doing anything but helping you and I had a new grader who was rasict and failed me on purpose but luckily my mom saw what they were doing and how what they made me do and what I was learning was not the same thing and took us OUT I am happy but PLEASE DON"T TAKE YOUR CHILD THERE it's a waste of your time, gas, and money
It just really sucks. Complete torture. The best way to make kids go into depression is to send them to Kumon.
He will come and he will go but beware he is always behind you.
He will sniff and he will cackle, but most of all he will tickle.
I used to go there and the learning material was repetitive, and boring. They said ask for help i fu need to and i did. But then i got pawned off to an example that is for a question like 9+8, while i am doing some albert einstein ahh question with like ************** numbers brackets and letters in it. Used to cry, and be scared when i used to go because i was like, OH time to get yelled at. One time I couldn't mark my books (ONE TIME), and one of the instructors yelled at me saying oh well you should have done it, look, our younger students can why cant you? Bro please shush. Instead of yelling at me, ask me why, and then see if it is valid or nah. Also you can't just yell at everyone and then expect them to be looking like :) the next second can you. Also yall used to have a help desk. It takes like 10-15 minutes just to get help, and then they help horribly. They used to have a help desk but not anymore. Also yall trippin if u think this is 5 star nuh uh.
ALso i did the entry test, and they made me start at a low level which was liek 1+1,0+8,13+6. I needed help with times tables. What a lovely way to drain money from peoples lives and to make them stay longer, and suffer longer, and to waste more tears, energy, time, make them behind in school, cause deppression, and to manipulate eveyone, and lie saying "oh 5 star, we provide best education, children will be confident"
I will never recommend this absolutely dishonourable service to anyone.
You can improve by actually helping kids, and actually talking to the parents and kids to see what they really need help with.
My parents started me in Kumon in 3rd grade with basic addition of single digit plus single digit numbers and the very basic reading worksheets. I finished the Kumon reading program in 9th grade. I struggled but finished the Kumon program in 10th grade, scoring between 80% - 90% on most worksheets. I always thought I wasn't good at math and my reading comprehension was low. When we had to take yearly assessment tests in elementary and middle school, I was always below grade level. Fast forward to 11th grade, I hit my stride and scored so high on the PSAT, I became a national merit scholar and I also got a 35 on the ACT. It turns out the 80% I was scoring on the Kumon translated into master. I was accepted to many of the most competitive universities. Yes, I ABSOLUTELY HATED Kumon but know I wouldn't have been able to learn everything just by going to school. It was very nice to have a strong math and reading foundation and build very good study habits from elementary school. I have been helping classmates since 9th grade. Many of them struggle with the same stuff I struggled with during Kumon, except I had struggle with it years before school so in school, it was a breeze. When I came across the same material in school, I had already learned it so it was a review for me. I don't think I would've ever been able to master the material just by going to school. While I hated it, it was much better than rotting in front a screen like most of my friends. I used my time to study, which I wouldn't ever change.
So I was just miding my own buisness, I got heavily sick for a few days and missed a lot of lessons when i came back all my work was late and my grades tanked. That's when my mom signed me up for kumon and ruined my life. All you do in kumon is sit around and do 5 pages of work (theres a back side on the pages too so it's basically 10) i sit around there and act like everything's fine but I am dying inside and want to kill myself, THEN, you also get a packet of homework (same packets you do when you're there) for everyday until you come back. It is soul draining and boring. This made me depressed and want to commit arson inside that building. So moral of the story this place is Sh*t don't waste your money on some stupid and fake place. Also, you might think this reviiew is fake, and you see 5 star ones on google. But there's a catch right now there are only 2 reviews i feel like this is so fake and they probably got there family or close friends or any relatives to do this. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS ABSOLUTE PIECE OF SH*T.
I am enrolled into Kumon and I can tell you that it is not helpful at all and the most depressing place ever. They force you to do stupid math problems and reading questions everyday no matter what. Even during COVID, they set up an online call with you just so that you can do petty little math equations. They make you do homework everyday, especially on weekends, breaks, and more. As much as I don't like it, your child will hate it and immediately cry when they leave Kumon on the first day like I did. Never trust Kumon. Some of the people I've met at Kumon are not helpful AT ALL. If I ever asked for help on anything, it would 1 or 2 things. I would ask them a question like "I need help on this problem" and they would say the question "What is 10 divided by 5", then they would say "What is 10 spilt into 5" and I would say something like "YOU LITTLE $#*! THAT'S WHAT I NEED HELP ON" in my mind. Once I was doing an end of level test(not a big deal it's just a test asking questions that were from your previous level) and I didn't finish and it was time for me to go, I told the manager of the Kumon I was at that I had to go but when she found out that I didn't finish, SHE LITERALLY MADE ME STAY AT KUMON UNTIL CLOSING TIME TO MAKE ME FINISH THE DAMN TEST. It was painful and I was crying during most of it since those questions were pretty hard and I was forced to do it. When I finally arrived home I started crying and then started sending hate to Kumon and beating up my Kumon bag. I am telling you, Kumon is a child's worst nightmare. If any of your adult friends are thinking of enrolling their child into Kumon, tell them to look at the reviews and they will be ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED on how disappointing, disgusting, pathetic, and painful Kumon is.
Moral of the story: Kumon is like hell
Kumon has a rating of 1.5 stars from 87 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Kumon most frequently mention grade level and mental health. Kumon ranks 451st among Tutor sites.
