Best Health Insurance
November 14, 2022

I was looking for good health insurance for many many years switching from one to another (Aetna, BlueCrossBlueS etc). Once my company started proposing KP insurance, I switched to KP to try it out. Since then I have never regretted my decision. It is the BEST ONE! All doctors are very polite, and all processes and all procedures are very clear and straightforward. All doctors are highly professional and provided the best services.
I highly recommended Kaiser Permanente

My Mom died and several months later after receiving no snail mail, email or phone calls I received a $1000 invoice through a collection agency. I am living at her house and check the mail daily. They swear (lie) saying that they sent multiple letters in the mail. There's no way that many pieces of mail could get lost. My mom was loyal to Kaiser her entire life, even after her husband/my father died there from several medical mistakes. I supported my mom with Kaiser, driving her there multiple times when she had breast cancer at age 84. I'm so disappointed that Kaiser never even tried to reach out by phone or email after all this. As someone with credit scores in the 800+ range and who has never paid a bill late, I'm shocked that this happened. Just as with my father, Kaiser takes no accountability. A simple apology would have made all the difference this time around. I'm just happy they didn't pull something like this when Mom was alive. I was considering trying Kaiser, but no way now. I recommend Sutter as an alternative. I hope this helps someone out there. Peace and love either way. Miss you Mom...

Kaiser is thee worst hospital iv ever had the misfortune of being treated by. They could care less. My roommate called 911 a week ago for chest pain and breathing difficulty, and an ambulance came and picked her up. Kaiser sat her in a waiting room for 6 hours. Not once checked up on her. Then told her she had to leave. Years ago, my father had stave 4 cancer. We took him to the er. He had a 104 degree fever. Soaking wet from sweat, hallucinating. They took almost 3 hours to give him something to bring his temperature down well that time he needs to take his pain meds and they've refused to give him his pain meds to the point where he was screaming in pain loud enough to be heard through a closed door. When I heard this I told his doctor I'm going to go home and get his pain meds and bring them here so he can take some. The doctors informed me that if I did that I would be charged with a felony. I look the doctor did the eye and said go for it I have not going to hear my father's scream and Agony because you're too big of a b**** to uphold your Hippocratic Oath. Kaiser is going to burn, I'll bring the marshmallows.

Kaiser is not 'User Friendly'! If you have an issue you can resolve on your own or by utilizing Web.MD or Mayo Site, that might work for you. LONG wait to even GET an appt. (I called in Aug. Of a past year & earliest available was SEPTEMBER 28th!) Urgent Care is a joke, be prepared for a super long wait! I just stopped going to Kaiser for any reason, treat myself & hope for the best! Even with the Covid scare I did not go & I am in the 'vulnerable' group, Senior citizen. They signed a 'No Bid Contract' with Calif. State (Gavin Newsom) so I can only imagine the enormous increase in patient roles! Before retirement, I worked in Cust. Service at other Insurance companies (2) so I feel mine is a valid opinion based on my professional experience.

I just got coverage in 1/2019. Met with Primary Dr. told her about the severe burning in throat and ears. Asked for Gastro Dr. Sent to ENT. Had to pay almost $600/CT scan. Acid reflux they say. Still asking for Gastro Dr. 6 mo. Later. I am 64 yrs. Old, thought I paid for April, paid for May-Cancelled. I called immediately once I realized mistake, wanted to pay to date. I technically only owed for May, it was 6/14/19. I was willing to pay for May and June.No... Cancelled. The burning in my throat and ears is beyond horrible. No answers. Still need Gastro Dr. Had to pay what I thought was $525.00 for CT scan, now it's almost $600.00. Cancelled- no ins. Have to wait till open enrollment... They really do not care about patients. I am getting old, never missed a payment. And still have severe burning, and I mean severe burning in my throat and ears. Bad! They treat you soo nice to your face, but I am still suffering. Worst ins. Company and place I ever have been to. They sure did fool me. Very Sad that a company could do this to a person. Horrible

Between the insane frustration with the website/ phone menu, let alone switching doctors every 6 months, due to doctors leaving KP regarding the administrators countermanding their decisions regarding micromanaging costs. The bottoming OVERIDES patients best interests. The delays in critical surgical procedures and the constant pill pushing buy the incompetent doctors that actually stay at KP.

--------0 stars. We are isolated disabled senior shut-ins with no transportation who rely on ADA Lift cabs to get to appointments. Our cab was 3 hours late for our appointment for covid booster & flu shots, but Safeway took us as walk-ins when we got there. We weren't informed online that Kaiser, for some ungodly reason, refuses to authorize any other entity to administer the $78 flu shots. Even worse, you can't get the flu shots at Kaiser as a walk-in anymore & are only available by appointment at 2 locations, each 30 mi away. So we will have to hazard taking yet another questionably clean cab with a maskless driver, not knowing whether Kaiser will be as accommodating as Safeway if the cab is their usual hours late. Kaiser was paying it's CEO a stunning $29-36M last year, depending on who was reporting it (the amount for this year is nowhere to be found) while we pay an extortionate $250ea/month for substandard services that seem to be reduced almost monthly.

I have had Kaiser for years, and I have had three very negative experiences so far.

First, their phone lines have been consistently terrible. This week, I tried to book a Covid test, and ended up spending literally hours on hold. Usually when I get through to someone, they just send me to another phone number. This is the same kind of thing I expect from ATT, or McDonalds, or any other big, heartless corporation. But I didn't expect it from a healthcare provider. I was wrong.

Second, I had a therapist a Kaiser who was actually detrimental to my mental health. They refused to give me necessary documentation for my university, because they wanted me to quit marijuana. I never even said that my marijuana use was a problem, and it turned out that this therapist had absolutely no right to prevent me from obtaining my own documentation. I promptly fired them, and I am happy I did.

Third, I dropped a metal stool on my toe last year, leading to a fracture. When I went to Kaiser's ER, they put me in a wheelchair with my toe uncovered, bleeding onto the floor. They then proceeded to wheel me around the hospital, dripping blood all over the floors.

I have spent thousands of dollars for these terrible services, which would have been both higher quality, and free, in my native UK. Why even pretend that there is a competitive marketplace in healthcare when big heartless corporations like Kaiser run the whole show?

Kiaser Kills
June 15, 2022

Doctors at kiaser are owned by there employer the kiaser insurance company. Do you really want this conflict of interest when it comes to your health. No need to see a doctor I can already tell you their diagnosis. Abdominal pain anywhere = IBS or your fat. Hurt your back or arm = sprain or your fat. Foot leg or hip problem = stretch or maybe your fat. Mental health issue = lol how about a group session with a rando "counselor". Pain = No that's in your $#*!ing head how about some more IBUPROFEN if that Don't work your not really in pain! Save your Money and your life and pick ANY OTHER OPTION YOU HAVE

Members of the Southern California branches of Kaiser Permanente who are not seniors can be vaccinated if they have a medical condition. I have mild asthma, I am under sixty-five, and I received my first Covid-19 vaccination shot at a Kaiser facility almost one week ago. Hooray for KPSOCAL!

Rude and Insensitive
November 10, 2020

I have been a part of the Kaiser network since I was a child. As a matter of fact, I was born there and my children were too. Unfortunately, recently, I discovered a Kaiser that I hope no one ever has to experience. Prior to two months ago, I really appreciated the Kaiser network. However, that has drastically changed. A family member was diagnosed with a serious disease that resulted in being hospitalized. I never realized that Kaiser will provide decent care until 21 days and then rush you out because they don't get paid. I didn't realize that Kaiser is a drug dealing business machine who "thrives" on drugging their patients to feel better. Doctors rush through to see as many patients as possible as time is money. 15 minutes in and out. Their case managers maintain the company line of what they can't do, won't do. One of their social workers rushed off the phone. One doctor did not return my call for 5 days even though the system showed she received messages. When she finally called, she said well I saw you called so i am calling but I don't have time see you and you're not even in my area. Even though my family member is her patient. I have so many stories. If you have the option of not choosing this network, don't. They are ok for general wellness care, but anything related to hospital care is extremely poor. If you ever end up on the hospital side or need specialized care, you will quickly discover how uncompassionate, uncaring, and how much they merely are about the Business of Kaiser versus anyone as a patient.

I have no idea what has happened to Kaiser Permanente, but they have seriously gone downhill since I was last with them 2000-2010. I have had a Neurologist overseeing part of my care since the 1990s. I rejoined 2021 and was actually told by two Kaiser Primary Care Practitioners I could 'not' see a Neurologist and the Rx from my Sharp Neurological Surgeon - of exemplary standing - was bad - and they would not refill it - and that I need vitamin supplements and acupuncture instead. Seriously?

Friends. I'm game for any preventative care, but as a life long Neurological patient... ya. No. This is not a solution. It is ignorance at the Primary Care levels.

I have been in an 8 month fight - EiGHT months, friends - a fight to receive something close to appropriate care. It has not happened yet. So I am writing to hopefully help others from making the same mistake I did (foolishly switching to Kaiser). Don't do it.

I am removing both myself and daughter from Kaiser Permanente insurance at Open Enrollment. There is no hope for this company on their current path, and it is very sad. I hope will take my review seriously, and choose another health insurance provider.

To your continued health and success, friends.

Horrible

They are horrible they will not cover any clinic in my area. In order to get coverage I have to drive at least 20 miles if not more. They at one time covered my primary doctor until they built a building near her now even though I pay for insurance I have to pay cash to see a doctor I actually trust. I've been to some of there clinics before they shut them down that were actually closer to where I live and all but a couple of there doctors and nurses told me I didn't have what I was coming in to see them about and said they might not treat me. I have had to tell them they need to actually test me for the things I'm coming in for and treat me or I would go to the ER after all that headache it came back I did have what I came in for. They have tried to deny me refills on non narcotic perceptions before and different birth controls before. Lucky my doctor who I'm forced to pay out of pocket fought that. They assigned me one of there male primary doctors without my consent and when I had them change it they gave me a doctor that only works the days I work so I asked them to change that again they didn't I have to bring all my medical information into the doctor I have seen for 10 years because they will not list her on my medical records. This last visit they refused to cover my antibiotics lucky the pharmacy used there discount card so I could actually afford. The only reason I stay with them at all is my employer pays for a lot of it. I don't qualify for any stat medical even though I'm paying every month for medical that covers less then state medical dose. There horrible.

Poor Service
February 7, 2022

This is what you get with a Medicare 5-star rating at Kaiser California. 11 months ago, I explain to my doctor that when if stand to long or walk after 2 to 4 blocks, I get intense pain around my mid extremities. The doctor recommend acupuncture. After 6 sessions I was still having issues and I let him know. After 4 months I am still having the same problems. He tells me he does not know what is going on. Two months after this I have this same conversation with another doctor, stating that if I stand or walk after 2 to 4 blocks, I get intense pain around my mid extremities. She recommends that I get another opinion. About two months later I have an appointment with a new doctor. I explain to him that if I stand to long or walk after 2 to 4 blocks, I get intense pain around my mid extremities. He orders a scan. On my next visit he tells me that he does not see anything wrong. Two months later I once again have this same conversation with my partner. She tells me NOT KAISER that it sounds like a hernia. Two days later I have another appointment with a Kaiser doctor, and she confirmed that I do have a hernia. Why did it take 11 months and three Kaiser doctors to find this out? Now, I get a referral to see a surgeon. She wants to perform outpatient surgery. The only catch is you must drive 30 minutes to a place that is in the middle of nowhere, when I have 3 maybe 4 different place that are only 5 to 10 minutes away. If you like this type of treatment or lack of treatment, then Kaiser California is your answer.

Listen Americans, if you think this money making enterprise wants to help you, you are totally wrong. This is basically, a money making machine: They just support the pharmaceutical money making machine. MY sister was killed by Kaiser permanente: They knew that the chemotherapy was not going to save her but they did not care even though I complained: Chemotherapy is a killing therapy but makes billions of dollars. Also, in my case, they did not want to offer me a doctor that I needed: They just put me a "young", supposed a doctor, VERY SICK, maybe coming from Pakistan or some of these countries abused by the system, and Kaiser DID NOT offer me any possible of the many therapies: This is the truth. KAISER PERMANENTE is a criminal money making machine.

Pharmacy
March 1, 2022

So I've been dealing with the debacle of Kaiser for many years now. The enormous bureaucracy of a multi billion dollar business it seems at every turn to make things way more difficult and they have to be came to ahead for me today. For 13 years I've taken a prescription and how she sleep at night that prevents me from sleepwalking. 13 years ago I almost died sleepwalking in an injury. The same medication that I've been taking for 13 years was sent over by my doctor to be refilled as a prescription. I drove to the Kaiser pharmacy. The supposed manager came up and said that I was too early to pick up this particular prescription. Now for the first 13 years of taking this prescription there was no too early. It's a very small dose of a substance that it's not even deadly. Now I don't have the prescription that helps me sleep at night and I've run out of the pills. If you ever wonder if just refilling your prescription at Walgreens or CVS with any other provider other than Kaiser would be a good idea and then perhaps the answersYes. Absolute terrible bureaucracy it doesn't care about healing helping people that only cares about covering it's On liability. What a joke. Don't ever go to the Kaiser Vallejo 24 hour pharmacy. Go anywhere else.
