First of all, like all domain sellers, the price of renewing after a year will be far higher than you paid, so make sure you set a reminder to cancel
Next, beware of hidden charges that will be added to your account. For example, they added 'WP Business' which I assume is Wordpress, but I never asked for it. Cost £9.60 per month!
Can you cancel? No. You have to wait a year
Can you call them? No. All their phone lines are dead.
Not bad for hosting, terrible for hidden charges.
They steal your domain name hijack your account and force you to pay them to recover it. They advertise $1 domain names for the first year a few weeks after registration they lock your account and refuse access unless you pay them some made up cost
I wouldn't even give them one star if that was an option. Had trouble setting up web page, all it wanted to do was upsell to me - an agent contacted me and said the web space and domain were not connected and would need setting up again - I said okay.- they said everything original was cancelled and new domain and web set up - generating invoices for all these of course - called to cancel new domain and web as they were not connected so thought get them out and start again with someone new to find out that not everything was cancelled from original call. Now having problems cancelling original set-up as outside of 30 days
Appalling service

Useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.useless.
The credit card we had on autopay for our domain expired which triggered a 30-day redemption period followed by a 5-day deletion phase before it would be released to the public.
The "missed payment notification" emails went to an obsolete email of ours so by the time we realized this was happening our domain was in the 5-day deletion phase, so I called IONOS and the customer service agent never mentioned that it was in the 5-day deletion phase, she instead told us we needed to wait 14 days and then call back to customer service to get our domain reinstated. On the 14th day we called them back only to find out our domain was sold 10 days ago to a domain reseller that now wants $3295.00 for our domain!
After multiple calls to IONOS customer service over a 7-day period and finally working my way up to the Executive Solutions Team, they listened to the recording of my original call with the agent that said I needed to wait 14 days and they admitted that was inaccurate information on how to reinstate/repurchase our domain, they then proceeded to tell me how they would address it with that agent and offered me $50 towards future services with IONOS! (ya...no joke) They need to purchase our domain name back!
We have boxes full of invoices, business cards and other company forms all with that domain already printed on them, not to mention all the customers, contractors and stores that currently use this domain address for our business, plus we are losing money daily with our website down while waiting for IONOS to return calls/emails etc!
My advice to all potential customers of IONOS is to find a different company for your domain or hosting services if you value your time and money!
I cancelled this transaction not knowing what it was. I don't even use their service. Come to find out they are threatening me on a service I cancelled and never used, "This email serves as the final reminder of the outstanding debt of $32.00 for your contract *******.
We have now locked your contract.
If payment is not made, we will forward the case to a collection agency within the next 7 days. Please note that this may incur additional charges." I don't even know what this service is.
Watch out once you log into your account. I am learning the hard way one day into my subscription. All those bells and whistles that most hosts include with hosting and actually looks like part of your new account already? Don't click to install unless you want an extra bill! Apps you may see once you log into your hosting account such as the website builder look like they are already yours to use and do not mention a fee, but if you click they WILL charge you! I found out only because the email account included is only for storage and I was calling to cancel. As it is now, the basic email offers no way to create and send an email unless you pay more! Any company who tricks their own customers like that does not deserve to be in business. Oh yeah, I am already getting spam trying to entice me to add even more!
I may be a customer now, but only to keep my domain I am not a happy customer, and definitely not a loyal one! As soon as enough time has passed to move my domain, I am out of there! Keep the change and lose my number!
Terrible experience and they make you call in to cancel. Not user friendly at all and it seems cheap because the thing you need that is cheap requires a bunch of add ons to be functional and secure.
Was going to use ionos for virtual private server.
After making an order of VPS received a confirmation "We will send you the contract confirmation together with our terms and conditions in a separate email shortly." However, 24 hours later and 5 letters to support which was useless, i still couldn't access my VPS because it was logging me out every time, even via following links that support provides in their email. Probably just wants to get rid of you.
It appeared that "shortly" meant 24-48h which never happened.
Awful customer service
Awful cancellation policy
Awful billing procedures

This place calls you endlessly trying to get you to sign up for their web hosting but make it impossible to cancel the contract on line. They want you to call them, then their 800 number asks you for a phone PIN.
You can try cancelling on line, but you still need to speak to them. The scummiest thing is that they will bill your checking account not as IONOS.com but some gobbledygook alphabet soup company name, so you may miss it if you are checking your bank account statement.
Their extremely weak security allowed a hacker to get into my account, take over my website business domain and delete all the files. Support was sketchy at best.
I received a call today from a sales representative asking how I was enjoying my domain and services with Ionos. He went on to tell me about additional services and products offered by the company and was ready to charge the credit card in my account without asking if I was interested. He started to get upset when I told him that I am not authorizing any charges to my account and I wanted to think more about it. Also, I was at work and could not speak long. He went on to say that I was "arrogant" all because I refused his unsolicited offer. I am shocked about this call. Ionos needs to truly train their staff with regards to customer service and better social skills when speaking to a client.
I can only speak of my experience out of 2 months of being a customer. I'll start with the customer service as it takes forever to receive a response and you'll probably end up talking to the sales team along the path, for some reason. Next is they will advertise the ability of doing XYZ but you'll only get x and y, with a really broken z. The one thing that comes to my mind is site maps. I contacted customer service to fix the date format so Google console can read them. The first person told me that they see the disconnect, they will put in a support ticket. Give it a week with no response so I decided to check on it and they told me nothing was put in and put in one (forreal this time). Give it another week and called yet again and they told me nothing was wrong on their end, it's supposed to make two site maps. That's fine, I don't care about it making 2 site maps, it's been about the date and sitemap for the past 2 weeks. Ended up making my own and it worked. They don't give you the correct tools to actually succeed unless you pay an outrageous price. After 2 months I decided to make the switch over to Shopify, imagine everything works now?
Sorry Ionos, this was a rocky 2 months with you and I'm happy to break up with you.

After you cancel, they send you to collection
Buyer beware of the $1 domain price lure. Once you take the bait, you're hooked into a contract that will spring on you all kinds of surprises. This company does not work from a platform of integrity. They cancelled an account of mine one week prior to the domain actually expiring! They would not allow me to access my account, would not provide any explanation as to why, and would not follow up via telephone even though they promised they would. Upon calling the company back and trying to explain the situation, the Ionos representative admitted that the company conducts business in a ridiculous way as she responded with these words: "I can understand your frustration. I know that [Ionos] has a strange way of doing business but there's nothing I can do."
This company was formerly 1 & 1. In an effort to camouflage its terrible reputation, it changed its name to Ionos. Folks, it's the same brand of poison in a different wrapper.
In short, when you see the Ionos name, turn the other way.
I talked with Cliff and then Don... they informed me that when purchasing a web hosting plan with more than 1 domain... the SSL per domain is NOT included. This poses big issues with consumers which is why IONOS will not receive many repeat customers unless they just need a domain name and nothing more. So my suggestion to anyone that decides to purchase from them is to buy 1 domain name at a time with web hosting or you will have to pay $20 per SSL which is ridiculous. I hope you know this is a short stop to a better hosting company like Namecheap
First they reply after 24hrs, once they do its baseless and useless with no information in it! Frustrating situation to resolve one basic problem with no proper reply!
Their business model feels like a scam: they make you sign an annual contract but with monthly payments. Also to cancel their service, you need to cancel online AND call them! Of course, when you call, you also need to "please hold for the next available teammate" for half an hour! Really, really business model.
Better avoid Ionos. What I thought was a good hosting service is actually a scam. They let my domain name be available again by preventing me to manage it. Then booked it for themselves and now ask me between 90 to 200$ to take it back. Avoid like plague
I used their hosting service and bought our company domain from them. Without warning, one day our website was just...gone. Customer support were useless, just saying "sorry, we detected a security issue and shut you down - we suggest you go try another provider". And everything we built is gone. Really pathetic, avoid at all costs.
Answer: Scam! Theyll charge you randomly without your consent.
