I help small businesses with their web presence. I have been an IONOS customer for more than 10 years and I have to say I am highly disappointed in the MyWebsite Now Plus package. To date I have ordered four packages for various web projects and to date NONE OF THEM WERE SUCCESSFUL. The technical support - wait what technical support - it doesn't exist, they can't even size a font, have very basic knowledge and always promise to call you back and don't. Just a glorified customer service rep trying to sell you more products than helping you solve your problems. They only have 23 templates, yes 23 (WIX has 900+ templates). I have complained so much about their support, website options and lack of follow-up that I've decided to move all my clients to another provider. They state "No Fuss WordPress" and they are right, don't call them to fuss about the lack of service just deal with it. I called about a technical issue on their part and four days later I still don't have an answer accept, we have escalated the issue to technical support, "wait I thought I called technical support." Only to be told they escalated the problem to someone who they can't call directly, can't tell me the hours of operation or don't know when or if I will receive a call back. The current site is stuck on the website template, after working four hours to create my site and they can't seem to fix it. So save your self the headache, financial cost and as I've told EVERY sales rep that calls me...fix my problem first before you call me about buying more of your crappy service. If I could give them a -5 rating I would as I didn't even want to give them a 1 star rating that was too much! I hope this review helps you.

If you're familiar with sites like GoDaddy for domain registration and renewal (even hosting), then there are certain business practices that you're used to in the modern age.

Working with IONOS is like working with a company from the early 2000s. They will create "contracts" for each purchase you make with them. So, you know that project that you picked up a domain for because that project was going to be great, except you couldn't find the time for it and decided a year later you didn't want to renew?

See the attached image and quote:
"Your contract may remain active and may potentially continue to incur charges."

More like it will remain active and will continue to incur charges. And you're out of luck if you have a hosting contract through them. There is no cancellation. Even if you cancel the domain, they will require you to continue to pay hosting charges through the end of the contract, which will auto-renew unless you call them. (And even then, they will say there is no way to cancel the hosting.) I mean, we live in 2023, where I can spin up a droplet on Digital Ocean whenever and shut it down - also whenever. (Better yet, Digital Ocean gave me my $5.00 back when I DIDN'T use the services for a few months.)

There are tons of better solutions out there. Don't fall for the ~*scam*~ that is IONOS. (I literally had to put a stop on my bank to keep them from charging.)

TLDR; They lock you into long contracts, and continue to nickel and dime you even if you cancel domain registration. Their cheap prices are no so cheap in the long run, and they get their money by locking you into contracts that you can't cancel, unlike other providers.

IONOS takes NO responsibility for their mistake!

The credit card we had on autopay for our domain expired which triggered a 30-day redemption period followed by a 5-day deletion phase before it would be released to the public.
The "missed payment notification" emails went to an obsolete email of ours so by the time we realized this was happening our domain was in the 5-day deletion phase, so I called IONOS and the customer service agent never mentioned that it was in the 5-day deletion phase, she instead told us we needed to wait 14 days and then call back to customer service to get our domain reinstated. On the 14th day we called them back only to find out our domain was sold 10 days ago to a domain reseller that now wants $3295.00 for our domain!

After multiple calls to IONOS customer service over a 7-day period and finally working my way up to the Executive Solutions Team, they listened to the recording of my original call with the agent that said I needed to wait 14 days and they admitted that was inaccurate information on how to reinstate/repurchase our domain, they then proceeded to tell me how they would address it with that agent and offered me $50 towards future services with IONOS! (ya...no joke) They need to purchase our domain name back!

We have boxes full of invoices, business cards and other company forms all with that domain already printed on them, not to mention all the customers, contractors and stores that currently use this domain address for our business, plus we are losing money daily with our website down while waiting for IONOS to return calls/emails etc!

My advice to all potential customers of IONOS is to find a different company for your domain or hosting services if you value your time and money!

Here is what happened to me.
I signed up with them on 23 Dec 2021 and shifted my domain with them
They offered me some services with a 30 days money back guarantee.
I subscribed to their services and then canceled well before 30 days, ie 3rd of Jan 2022.
BUT even after CANCELING they CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD with USD 90.00
When I tried to call them on their support numbers, there were some machine and human mix voices, who put me on hold every time and I had to hang up after waiting for a long time i. E. 10, 20, 30, 55 minutes. I did Good THING and after they charged my credit card, I called my bank and warned my bank for this fishy website business company and asked them to put a check on my credit card. Finally, one final time when I called and waited enough to catch one guy named THEO told me he is forwarding this case to the security team since my account is locked and they cant do anything.
So I told this THEO guy that I want three things to be done in 72 HOURS, pls put this note with my support ticket. 1. I want my money back USD 902. I want my Credit Card details deleted from IONOS.com3. I want my account to be canceled from IONOS since I DONT WANT THEIR SERVICE ANYMORE.
I will also send these three points in the email a couple of times to record this for my documentation.
Then after 72 HOURS, I will pass all these documentation, emails, call recordings (yes I have recordings for the last two calls) to a lawyer in the USA and file a lawsuit against them.

If you value your business and your mental health RUN! These people are the most idiotic, dishonest, unqualified morons I have EVER had the displeasure of having to deal with. I'm so aggravated right now because I have to find new hosting and switch over all my clients sites, domains, and emails. I was with this company when it was 1 & 1 and I really liked them. These idiots have DESTROYED my patience and my websites with all of their unauthorized changes. If money is something that you care about, again, RUN! I cannot begin to tell you the random nonsense that these people have tried to charge me for. They literally tried to put a block on my account because of a bill and a plan that I NEVER ordered (I had been with this company for nearly 10 years at this time and they REFUSED to back down on this). Someone used my email address (a publicly listed email address) to order some services and then ditched the account. SO, YEARS later, I get a bill in my email for the amount of these services. I call and they tell me that because it was under my email address, I'm responsible. It's not under my name, my address, the card on file (which had expired at this point according to them), or ANYTHING else that belongs to me, but they honestly wanted to stick this bill to me because the person used my EMAIL address (publicly listed ALL over the internet and on my business website) as a method of contact. I had never heard of anything so ridiculous. There is so much more to this story that involves obvious legalities, but I think you get the gist of it all. Save yourself and just don't EVER deal with these crooks and idiots. If you are a current customer who is reading these reviews because you are wondering if you should stay or go (because they probably just screwed you over too), JUST GO! It will be a royal pain, but go now before it gets worse. Backup EVERYTHING to your own personal drive and just settle in for a headache that will soon be resolved once you rid yourself of this nonsense that IONOS has the audacity to call a web hosting business. I wish I could rate this company with ZERO stars! I hope this review helps save someone from the drama, frustration, and wasted time that IONOS will cause you.

Pathetic & fraud

Not capable of providing a service. I cancelled in May and I still have problems with these idiots. Stealing from me, illegal account that was not opened by me and not capable of transferring my domain.

Can't transfer my domain and fraud. See the last email to them below:
I want this unauthorized account closed. If you fail to comply with the request and close this immediately I will take legal action against your company as this is Fraud.

Transfer my domain to me and remove ALL my details from your database.

I WANT ALL OF THIS DONE WHITIN 24HRS. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL LEAD TO YOUR COMPANY BEING LISTED FOR FRAUD.

TAKE THIS MATTER VERY seriously. As every department I have listed is cc'd in this email I know every department receives the email. Take this to your management and make sure this is escalated to the relevant staff. I am not following up on this and I am not emailing and explaining this again. DO YOUR JOBS. I AM NOT DOING IT FOR YOU UNLESS YOU HAVE ME ON PAYROL.

IT IS YOUR JOB AND COMPANY THAT IS ON THE LINE AND IN THE WRONG. FIX YOUR MESS OR I WILL MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE IS AWARE OF HOW YOU RUN YOUR COMPANY AND FRAUDULENT CONTRACTS THAT GET ACTIVATED AND BILLED WITHOUT CONTRACTS.

YOU HAVE 24HRS TO CORRECT THIS. IN THE MEAN TIME PEOPLE WILL KNOW ABOUT THIS AND I WILL UPDATE THE OUTCOME. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS NOW.

On June 1,2022, I paid IONOS for both a website builder and a domain name. I expected the payment to be a mere $12.00 for one year, then $5.00 every month, but I then discovered shortly afterwards that IONOS took $144.00 off my card.

I went ahead and filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and IONOS refunded most of my payment to my card, which was $107.98, but then told me in my email that within 7 days they would take a payment of $12.00 from my card. I filed another complaint with the FTC letting them know about this latest problem and that I wanted IONOS to give me a full refund and for them to close out my account with them immediately, but unfortunately as of June 6,2022, IONOS once again took what was on my card, which was $107.98 (they actually tried to get another $144.00 from me, which forced my card to have a negative balance).

From my experience so far with this company, I have found IONOS to be totally dishonest, greedy, and not professional at all and from what I have seen from the online reviews here I expect them to continue on with their ruthless dishonesty, greediness, and unprofessionalism because companies such as IONOS really believe customers are totally stupid, can be easily fooled and taken for granted. Therefore, I am encouraging others to not only stay away from IONOS, but to also file official complaints with various consumer agencies, and if necessary, take legal action against IONOS over its blatantly corrupt business practices because an internet service company should not be ruthlessly entrapping its customers into unfair contracts designed to greedily keep drawing payments for its own wretched continued existence.
