  • We called Customer Service and we were advised that there is no explanation, but that this sometimes just happens.
  • I find it is very disturbing, that Indeed will disable an employer account, which I have had open for over 2 years.

“They actually listened to me!”

Larissa S.

I was having a lot of issues with Indeed originally, I couldn't get them to respond after taking down a very critical hiring ad we had up. It seems like an algorithm just flagged our account and took it down. But after talking with the Indeed support team on here, they got my ads back up (just in time) and even gave me a free sponsor on our most important one. Thank you Indeed support team, I really appreciate you taking the time to work with me - I knew when humans looked at it, they would know we were legit. Thank you again everyone at Indeed Support!

“Account is disabled for no reason--bad customer service”

Greg W.
1/8/24

I am a legitimate business owner of a star-up company. Never run into any issue with Indeed in the past. One day, I received an email telling me the company account was disabled, no reason provided. I went through the appealing process and provided the documents including business registration certificate, by-laws... I explained, as the company is still in the early stage, everyone works remotely from home, so there is no Lease and utility bill, etc. I still got denied. Indeed says " Your company is unsuitable for Indeed." Why? How? No reason provided, and decision is final. All the customer Raps just repeated same thing with their arrogant and cold voice--"no reason, and decision is final." It provides no help at all. I am still clueless what is wrong. Really frustrated and disappointed!

I thought it was a scam email which told me Account Disabled as one of the jobs you have posted to Indeed was deemed not consistent with Indeed's quality standards. But no, it was not a scam, I have just tried to post a job and found my account has Indeed been Disabled. I can only assume Indeed are using a faulty algorithm because there is no way my advert fails to meet their quality standards. I have posted around 14 very simple ads on Indeed over the last 3 years all almost identical consisting of just two short sentences. The last job was posted for almost two weeks. Why just after I closed the job am I told my account has been disabled? If there is an issue, why not send me an email to explain the problem. This is a total error by Indeed and reflects very badly on their business model by turning away customers for no valid reason. Also, why have all the contact number for Indeed been disabled. It would be so simple to sort this out if we could speak to someone.

Hi Peter, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I used Indeed well over 5 years ago to look for a job and found it to be very useful. I don't recall if I found a job through them or not but do remember that I did like the service and was able to navigate through their site with ease. I know that every site is not going to be liked be all so you just have to give it a try and see if they work for you or not.

Indeed was able to resolve the issue. One of the accounts has been re-activated, the second should also be soon, I sent the required document today.

The issue seems to be the lack of clarity and feedback received, when they initially vet documents to approve an account. The message received in response offers no clarity on what the issue was with the document submitted.

The way to sort this out appears to be contacting them on here or via Facebook chat. Thank indeed in happy with the outcome.

It appears this is a common problem, I have seen other complaints in line with this. Is there a solution to this. Is there a worthwhile alternative possibly?

As the appeal process clearly doesn't shed any insight neither do the terms and conditions

Indeed is a platform that allows employers and employees to contact one another. I have had a positive experience finding my first job I could actually call a career from here, but other than that job, I haven't had as much luck.

There are some questionable jobs out there. The worst are the headhunters, usually for a major company. They are all offering the same job across several networks and claiming varying pay rates.

The assessments are actually fun, though. This is a big step up from Craigslist, and WAY better than Monster. USAJobs could learn a thing or 69 from Indeed.

Indeed.com is the only website I use for job hunting. While it's run of the mill it's one of the better ones out there. It has mixed reviews but over all I'd say it does okay. It helped me find three jobs and my current job I've been in 12+ years. I tried job hunting after the economy started to recover in 2014 and found where I'm at now was the better choice long term. So I decided to stay at my job long term. Especially now with the economy crashing every decade or two.

Due to the fact my union job would allow me to earn 20% more than someone who wasn't in a union job. Unless you have a bachelor degree and several decades experience most of the jobs average in my area about 20% less than my current pay. The job I'm in now can't seem to keep people because it's really designed for someone who wants to stay long term like 10+ years long term. They treat the long term staff decently but business practices encourage starting staff to quit. They basically make the job crap for starting people so they have to quit and keep repeating the minimum wage cycle. If they were smart they would pay less to wages by keeping people long term. Thank god for the union.

If you need a job like now just post your resume and select that it be actively viewed. You'll be called by recruiters left and right. Who knows one of them might end up being "that" long term job. Or heck you could get temp work for experience. This helped me get experience so I could get hired by my "now" company.

I highly advise you to purchase a cheap throw away phone for job hunting. Unless you want your real phone number spammed time and time again and yes even resold. You can get these by going to your local grocer (that sells them) or just buy a cheap phone off of amazon.

Indeed can allow your job offer to be seen (or not) - it's all a game played depending on how much money you pay. They can stop it from being seen if too many people "click" or if you simply don't spend enough money daily. Many job seekers use this site, so it can still be beneficial - providing you spend enough money daily. One great thing about Indeed is that you can request that applicants do some testing before they are considered for your open position through Indeed, with no extra cost. So, if you need, for example, "attention to detail" you can see how an applicant scores in that area right up front. Bad news is, plenty of applicants are too lazy to do the tests - no fault of Indeed, just the way of the world today.

I'm so grateful for Indeed! Made my job search less stressful. Created my resume & easily applied for employment. Indeed provided terrific leads based on matches to my resume. I interviewed several times and I'm now employed by a company Indeed listed for me! Couldn't be more grateful for thembeasing the actual "footwork" job hunting. I would've given 5 stars but email job alerts were not always in areas a reasonable distance to where I could work. THAT was the ONLY con in using Indeed to find employment. All of the companies were legitimate & most replied to my resume rather quickly. Even the ones which weren't interested in hiring me sent courtesy emails to let me know! Thanks so much Indeed! Landed a wonderful position with a fabulous company! I would definitely use again if I needed to.

Originally, I left a 1 star review about my disdain for this service due to the fact my account was disabled and there seemed to be no reprieve after endless appeals.

After leaving my review, an account representative was able to kindly activate my account with no problem! I'm very appreciative for this, as I was half way through a report for the Better Business Bureau. They've turned things around for me, and I'm looking forward to finding promising workers on indeed.

My overall review?
Their Automatic Bot Customer Service: 0/5
Human Customer Service: 5/5
New Hire Candidate Quality: 4/5
Ease Of Use (Of The Platform): 5/5
Ease Of Account Setup: 3/5

To Use Or Not To Use?
DEFINITELY use the service! If you're able to get through the initial review process then this is an excellent service with all the tools you need to hire great people stress-free! Looking through applicants is a breeze, and the app makes hiring candidates so convenient, you'll wonder why you weren't using Indeed YEARS ago!

If you're NOT able to get through the review process, then the entire ordeal will give you a mind-bending headache and leave you with an eternal resentment towards Indeed. Possibly enough for you to go out on a limb and warn every good business you know to "Stay Away" if they know what's good for them.

My final advice?
If you run into serious issues with indeed, try to reach a human on indeed's customer service. If that doesn't work, tell your legitimate story in a review and hope a human CSR comes to your rescue- like they did with me!

Tried many other places like LinkedIn, Glassdoor + even posting on Craigslist. Get the most candidates and best qualified candidates. It work well. Only glitch is you have to always communicate via Indeed masked email account even at the very final stages of process, these emails sometimes go to spam, which is frustrating.

UPDATE: Issue has been resolved

I just created an account on behalf of employer, posted a job and opted to pay for the sponsored ads. The job posting went live, but after a few hours I received an email that my account was disabled. I've read the terms and conditions and I did not see any violations on my posting.

The account was verified. So I don't really understand why the account suddenly got disabled without any specific reason.

This is our first time to use this platform. I love it at first because it's user-friendly however we are really disappointed and frustrated right now because of this issue. And upon reading the reviews, it seems that it is a common issue. The account being disabled for no specific reason and there's no one to reach out to for a customer chat support.

Can someone reach out to me directly on my email to resolve this issue?

Hi Jennifer, thank you for sharing your experience with us. To explain, Indeed is a search engine for jobs and as such we bring together jobs that are advertised on Job Boards, Staffing Firm's sites and Direct Employer's career pages to give candidates the ability to do their job search in one location. We also have thousands of recruiters post their roles directly to Indeed. In some cases, you may be directed to an employer website or another job board to complete your application. We hope this helps clarify any confusion. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact our team directly at sitejabber@indeed.com. Good luck with your search!

It was OK... I had a lot of interest and fell off after a couple weeks. I expected more interest for longer being I sponsored the add. I didn't like that I had to pay for people who applied that were not qualified, even tho I had requirements noted.

I had an ad prior to this about a year ago and did not sponsor. I had almost as much interest then, So by sponsoring the ads in my opinion was not worth the 300.00 I spent

I found Indeed to be easy to use, but somewhat limited. We did get a good response to our ad. I would suggest you increase the employer's options by allowing us to give a rating to each employee we review. (Even a 1 to 10 rating scale would help.) This would aid quickly evaluating many applicants at one time. Also, the options to reflect an employee only as "Reviewed", Phone Screened, Rejected or Hired is a little limiting. A couple of other status options like: Contacted Employee or Awaiting Information or Interview Scheduled woulc help.

I have sourced a few hires from Indeed, the site definitely allows for a good source of talent. It is a little difficult to filter through all of the applicants though. There also seems to be a lot of people who apply that do not fit the criteria, but that will inevitably happen and is the job of HR/hiring managers to identify good candidates from here.

Unexpectedly suspended at worst time
May 30th, 2017
• Previous review

Our office has been using Indeed for over 2 years and we are currently hiring for 4 different positions. In fact, I recently sent out about 15 different emails of interest in to people who had posted their resumes through Indeed and went back Friday to send more when I found out our account has been disabled from contacting individuals on Indeed? An email appeal since I have no idea why this happened ended up with the same reply that others have received- that they won't lift the suspension (?!?) and no further appeals will be considered or responded to.

I have worked on hiring at this office for the better part of a decade and never encountered anything like this? We hired our last Physician Assistant (we are a small primary care medical practice) thanks to Indeed but I guess we can't use them anymore as there is no real way to contact them except through email which we've already tried. I'm at a real loss, always like Indeed until now and as we are really in a hiring crunch and the complete lack of explanation or warning of this suspension has left us stunned. I've got 4 positions to fill and no time to waste so I guess it's time to try other services?

In conclusion, Indeed is great until it's not and you'll never know when that will be.

Although I didn't end up hiring through Indeed, I do appreciated how easy it was to post a job. The response was fantastic... 167 candidates. It was also good to have all the applications through Indeed in one place where I can send automatic responses and change individual applicant's status along the process. However, many of the candidates did not qualify and it was a lot of work to find those who did.

I had a problem with my account being disabled after I first created it. I tried to contact support through the website, but heard nothing, so I decided to try Facebook. I got a reply within 15 minutes and they were very helpful and explained what the problem was. They had to escalate the issue, but surprisingly withing a couple hours everything was fixed and back up. Bit of a slow start but ended up winning the race.

Updated review: I was unhappy because I was blocked from contacting candidates for a job I am hiring for. But since posting this review the Indeed customer service team resubmitted an appeal for me on my behalf. Indeed resolved my issue and has agreed to let me contact again while being careful to follow their guidelines. I do think that indeed is a good source for candidates, there are many to choose from and I am really happy to be able to use it again.

Previous review: As an employer seeking candidates I paid $1 per contact. I contacted several candidates and gave them the job description we are looking for. 2 days later I try to contact one of my candidates and indeed says I am blocked. They give you an option to appeal their blocking. So in the comments I explain that I am appealing because I don't think I was rightfully blocked. I still have no idea what I did that was wrong. This is the response they send:

Indeed (Indeed for Employers)

Thank you for taking the time to go through our appeal process. We review all accounts to ensure our job seekers have the best experience.

We have reviewed your account and will not be lifting the suspension for Indeed Resume. Suspension of your ability to contact job seekers has no effect on your ability to post or sponsor jobs on Indeed.
